Northwest Arkansas Anchor Moving to The Rock
KNWA anchor Matt Turner is making the move to Little Rock. Turner joined KNWA in 2003 as a sports anchor/reporter but moved up to a primary news anchor in 2006. It's not sure where exactly in Little Rock Turner will be on the air at...but it would be safe to say probably KTHV.
finally some experienced talent coming in at 11 to shake things up. I'm assuming it's for news, or will he go back to sports as SD? If for news, how will things shake out with the current staff?
I think there will be restructuring in the morning and evening broadcasts. I've heard that someone from the morning broadcast will be joining the evening broadcast. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
I'm hearing that management has decided to take KTHV in a new direction, and that many changes will be taking place in the near future. The key players in the change have met with management and been told of these changes. Some will be promoted, while others demoted. At the end of the day it's all about ratings and profits. If something isn't working it's necessary for changes to take place in order for there to be continued growth.
I'm glad to see THV making some changes, and they are taking some risks it seems. At least they are trying to improve. If it doesn't work, keep trying until you get the formula that does.
THV has the same look, the same promos, the same marketing lines as it did in 1995. My guess is that is going to be too late, but the kid looks good. Don't know if Eady is the way to go, but the time has probably come where Dawn and Liz need to find new directions.
I think Matt Turner and Alyse Eady would make a great evening duo, but lets not get ahead of ourselves; nothing is set in stone as of yet. Management will be weighing options and testing different people in different roles to ultimately decide what changes need to take place.
I am not in the TV business, so I do not genuinely understand 8:30's statement that, "the time has probably come where Dawn and Liz need to find new directions." I know the shelf life is probably short in TV, but aren't they still relatively young for a TV market the size of Little Rock? I am not saying 8:30 is wrong; I am just surprised.
I had high hopes for Alyse Eady but she is lousy and lazy. It's no surprise the ratings in the mornings tanked when she came aboard. Ashley deserves to be the main anchor not Alyse.
The future of THV's morning show is bright. Craig, Alyse & Tom with Ashley as the dynamic reporter. Throw Joey in there and that could be the winning combination! I'm told that there is a real feeling of camaraderie and teamwork on that shift.
@ 5:24: Give me a break! Alyse is by far one of the best anchors in Arkansas. Of all the current anchors, Alyse is probably the only one that has the potential to work in a top five market. I know talent when I see it, and she's definitely got the "it factor" it requires. She will definitely follow in the footsteps of Kate Sullivan, Christina McLarty & TJ Holmes. Take my word for it, within five years she'll be in a top five or national market.
@ 6:09 I agree. She's a doll and my husband and I enjoy watching her every morning. Ashley does a good job too. Here's my advice for Ashley; get your teeth straightened and whitened, dress more professionally (clothes look cheap and too young), slow down a bit when you're reading the news, and stop saying "for sure!" it drives us nuts! THV is our morning show because they are the only ones that don't seem snooty.
The only thing anyone knows for sure is that Matt Turner will be a evening news anchor. Everything else is up in the air. Only time will tell...be prepared for a shakeup though.
Well when you make pennies for money its hard to afford anything at THV. Alyse has no journalism experience and makes a ton more than Ashley. Sad really. Props to Ashley for working so hard despite the situation.
I'm truthfully surprised at how good Alyse is. She might be a newbie in regards to experience, but as far as performance goes she is at the top of her game. She is so polished and smooth when anchoring.
Throw her on breaking news though or have her write a package and let's see if he can do it. How can you be a main anchor and not be able to have experience in the field.
Everything in life isn't fair, but every-now-and-then you run across someone that just has that little extra something that makes them stand out above the others. Some people work their butts off their entire life and never really make it, while some of the most successful television personalities have risen to stardom over night. It may not be fair, but that's just how it works sometimes.
Ashley, Alyse, Tom and Matt on the morning show and Craig back to radio.
THV needs to train someone to light the talent on the morning show.
KARK live shot from the circus had less-than-standard definition video and distorted audio. Does anyone at that station know how to control audio levels?
It really just depends on the person, and what they can negotiate for. Networks don't really have anything to do with it. For instance, Katie Couric made way more than Matt Lauer, when they hosted Today together.
Let's face it, Audus gutted this station of the talent. Theyve lost any chance of sustaining the ratings surge of the last decade. I don't get why they would bring in a guy from NWA who anchors that markets number 3 rated newscast to propel their own. I'm sure the folks at KATV are overjoyed. Meanwhile the KARK folks have imbedded loosing in their DNA. They'd do better replaying old newscasts of Roy, Carolyn, Tom, and Dave than putting out their current product. I bet Jessica Dean wonders every day why she left KATV for KARK. It's not the product that's so bad, it's just bad management from the top down.
Matt is one of the most talented anchors I have had the pleasure to work with. He is a nice person, fun to be around, has connections that brought us big stories, and he will be missed. His ad-libbing and interview skills are second to none. When breaking news happens he is the anchor everyone wants on their side. I do not agree with people who believe a person is no good because they work in a smaller market. He will excel in Little Rock. We are rooting for you Matt!
11:59 Not attempting to be rude. Why do you feel KNWA stayed in 3rd place across the board in ratings. Maybe NBC's programming is partly to blame. But I am sure there is more than network programming.
In Little Rock we blame KTHV's the green reporters, Craig, Liz and Dawn for the the poor ratings. CBS has powerhouse nightly programming. Do you think he is strong enough to stop a sinking ship?
Matt would be a good fresh start. Knwa was not consistently 3rd. They are a solid 1-2 in NWA. That station was designed to just market to that area. Right or wrong it's worked for them and Matt was a big part of that.
I don't think he is coming to Little Rock. Haven't heard a word more about it. They aren't saying anything to us at THV. It would be too odd for him to just show up. Did the deal fall through?
The rumor in the building is Matt and the higher ups are having a difficult time coming to an agreement on salary. Supposedly THV refuses to pay him much or any more money than he was making at NWA. They feel he should jump at such a GREAT opportunity.
Yeah, that's such a coveted spot. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you don't want any part of that newsroom right now. And they're lowballing him as well? Wow, good luck THV.
Who is it that leaks all this information about Matt and his KTHV salary negotiations? Are the rumors even true that he is coming? If these rumors are true, who in management is leaking this information. And what good does it do management to leak contract negotiations.
It's just a bunch of peons and disgruntled employees from THV who try and make themselves feel important by spreading office gossip or bashing the competition. That's all this blog is anymore. While its funny in a way to most everyone else in this market it's actually a little sad at the same time. It must really be a horrible way to spend a day having to be in that newsroom lately.
FYI: KTHV use to have weekly management meetings that was also attended by non-management (secretaries, assistants, record keepers, etc). Very confidential information would be discussed and the record keeper would take the minutes and document the happenings. Trust me, management is not leaking information. Office gossipers "gossip" and the information ends up leaked.
If 9;21 is correct about secrataries, record keepers, and assistants leaking important KTHV inside information and discussions, it ought to be easy enough for management to figure out who is leaking and stop the flow of information, conjecture, and assumptions. It should simply be a process of elimination. Obviously whoever is leaking must not be afraid of being called on it.
1:02, That would be true if Larry Audas were still here. Larry used to brag to the higher ups as to how much he screwed over an employee to get them to take the job or stay.

Somebody is going to get the short straw. Odds on who?
Liz 2-1
Ashley 3-1
Dawn 4-1
Craig 20-1
Alyse 4-1
Stephanie 30-1
Pam 9-1
He will be the new KTHV evening anchor. Craig will be going to the morning show permanently.
I think there will be restructuring in the morning and evening broadcasts. I've heard that someone from the morning broadcast will be joining the evening broadcast. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Matt Turner & Alyse Eady would make a great evening duo.
Why would Matt go to evenings and craig to mornings? still leaves them without a Sports Director.
I think Matt is evenings and craig will be the SD or even vice versa.
Craig is already doing the morning broadcast, or atleast he was all last week.
I'm hearing that management has decided to take KTHV in a new direction, and that many changes will be taking place in the near future. Where is Tom left?
Where does Tom go?
Tom is a meteorologist, i'm sure he'll continue to do the M-F morning and noon broadcast.
So what? Who cares?
Did you see what Jessica had on tonight? They looked spectacular!
Jessica Dean? I'll pass.
I'm glad to see THV making some changes, and they are taking some risks it seems. At least they are trying to improve. If it doesn't work, keep trying until you get the formula that does.

It's not their age that matters.

Thanks Ashley! Looks like someone is bitter that they aren't getting mentioned on here.

Alyse is a "breath of fresh air" and is really exceptional at her job.
Alyse is the best! I expect her to be in ARK for a couple more yrs and then she'll be on to bigger and better things.
Is Craig going to the morning show or sports?
The only thing anyone knows for sure is that Matt Turner will be a evening news anchor. Everything else is up in the air. Only time will tell...be prepared for a shakeup though.

Let's not forget Ashley's oily, stringy looking hair. It looked so much better when she first started at KTHV with the short do.
I like Ashley. I think she's a good anchor!
I don't think the new direction needed for Dawn and Liz has anything to do with age-- it's ratings, ratings, ratings.

KARK wasn't live at the circus. You must mean KATV.
Bottom line, it doesn't matter what KTHV does, they will still screw it up.

No, it was THV's shot at the circus this AM that had the less than stellar picture and distorted audio. You must be another KATV hater.
Is KATV the only station that is running every live truck in HD?
Are those live backpacks that KTHV and KARK have HD?
What do news anchors for the morning shows make? Any ideas in their salary and what network pays the most?

Behind the scenes moves are being made. This blog is always early with news. I predict Matt will be introduced at a strategic time
It's called blindsiding your competition.
It's hard to blindside someone who knows what's coming. We'll just wait and see what really happens.
Exactly. You think you know what's coming but you don't.

Better watch it, other stations in the market have openings.

Matt will be doing news and sports. A concept not yet seen in our market. Yes, Craig and Tom will make a good team.
