Former KTBS Employee in Promo for KTAL.....

While watching KTAL, I noticed a promo with Sherri Talley (former KTBS employee) saying she "is watching the Super Bowl on NBC 6". Is she now an employee at KTAL or is she just a familiar face making extra cash?

Could be Mike Thomas' promo idea. When MeeShell came to KTAL, there were all these former TV-types who did one-liners welcoming MeeShell to KTAL. They even had Lizard Swaine saying: "You Go Girl!" :p

Oh come on everyone will be watching the superbowl on KTAL. If it were on KTBS or KSLA or KMSS everyone would be watching it. That's the one thing everyone is guaranteed to watch every year.
Not I. I'm pointing my super power antenna toward Little Rock and watching it on KARK.
ThIs is the same station who has changed their news openings to say "home of the Super Bowl."
@8:23, Not everyone will be watching the superbowl. I would have to be paid a goodly stipend to watch a football game and pay attention to it. And even then, I would not care which side won the silly game. I don't even know who is in the superbowl this year, and I could hardly care less.
I've noticed the new Super Bowl opens for a few weeks now, so these new promos do not surprise me. It seems a bit cheap and desperate, but after all this is KTAL we are talking about.
FYI 9:05 Both KARK and KTAL are run out of Little Rock in the same control room with the same Master Control Operators. The only difference you will see between the two stations are the advertisers in the local commercial breaks.
Hopefully whoever is switching the Super Bowl actually runs the local breaks on time. I did not see a single NFL game on KMSS this season where they either did not miss a break or run the breaks late. Very sloppy!

That's true. Those of you who do not watch the Super Bowl can always watch Rhett and Scarlet on TMC.
I only care about the revenue we are getting from airing the Super Bowl. It has the highest commercial revenue of the entire year.

I don't know what TMC means, but I am not about to watch Rhett and Scarlett again either. The only time I ever enjoyed Rhett and Scarlett was when Carol Burnett did "Went with the Wind". I wish at least one of the local stations would show a good baseball game for those of us who don't march to the tune of the pied piper.
They must have meant TCM which stands for Turner Classic Movies. Not TMC. TCM has been airing Gone With The Wind during the Super Bowl for about 20 years if not longer.
Also, this is college basketball season, not baseball season. None of the networks have any baseball games to air so you will have to wait a few months.
Changing topics. What's the deal with KTAL's breaks during the football games? They sit in black for a while in almost every break.
auto-programmed switching. Just like cable tv local insert spots, you may see a few seconds of a spot and then another spot cuts in or a few seconds of black when it goes to a break. I've seen the NBC logo with its famous 3 tone audio cycle through 3 times before a local break came on.
Buggy switching or software...either way it's amateurville.
I don't watch KTAL because of Todd Warren.
@12:15pm, I am not an idiot just because I will not watch football. I know that this is not baseball season, and even if the seasons were to overlap, they would not schedule a baseball game at the same time as the superbowl. But I doubt that they have destroyed all of the videotape of historic games, and it would be a videotape of an exciting historic baseball game which I was suggesting as good counterprogramming.
6:21 KTAL is in black a lot longer then a few seconds. It's more like 30 seconds or longer. It's like the breaks do not match the network format? Or maybe they forget to go back to network after the break.
1:38 You can see classic games like that on the sports channels. They use them as filler when there is nothing else to air.
What is the channel of any local sports channel??? I know that KTBS airs basketball games on 21.2 which is supposed to be MeTV. And put the Fletch character on 3.3 in the mornings, but I don't know of any sports channels. If they had good sense, they would put a sports channel on 21.3 or use 3.2 for a sports channel, rather than being erratic like they are.
What happened with your news Saturday night? Dead air. No Newsticker. No Powerball. It was a hot mess.
This Super Bowl promo campaign seems be just well know former local news personalities. I saw one earlier today with former KSLA anchor Carl Pendly. They must have gotten this idea from the Independence Bowl commercial with Cedric Glover, Terry Bradshaw, Tim Brando, and several other well know local personalities.

Yes it is. Have you ever been inside KTAL? I took a group tour several years ago. Their equipment is ancient and it's a miracle they can even get on air. The news room is hot and it stinks. I mean that literally. The AC is messed up so it's extremely uncomfortable and the room smells funky. Like Cheetos and dirty feet.

KTAL is housed in one unhealthy building that was built in the early 1960's. I used to work there and each day when we'd fire up the studio, rats would scamper off to hide. No telling how much ratshit is left drying in the ceiling and vents. The previous owners before Nexstar never spent any money on the place and about the only upgrades Nexstar did were in the studio and technical areas. I'm sure the offices just got a fresh coat of paint if that much. It really is a shitty place to work for this and other reasons.
Well they should spend some money on new equipment so they can air the lottery show correctly. Tuesday was the 4th day in a row KTAL messed up the lottery show.
1:05 They have done a lot of other things at KTAL since Nexstar took over. They got new furniture for the lobby twice, but they did not give out raises. They covered the concrete block walls in the hall with sheet rock and put down carpet, but they did not give out raises. They gutted and re-modled the employees restrooms by the back door, but they did not give out raises. They replaced that old kitchenette with a functioning sink, counter top and cabinets, but they did not give out raises. They carpeted the production control room and hall, but they did not give out raises. They outsource the business office, the traffic department, and master control to KARK in Little Rock, but they did not give out raises. See that's a lot more then stuff then we ever had under the old management.
Looks like Nexstar is more concerned about property than people; at least that's what I take away after reading this.
KTAL will always, always, always be in distant third place in this area as long as they insist on making Texarkana their priority city instead of Shreveport. New equipment, anchors, studio, newroom, etc, will not matter a bit.
Has anyone seen the public service announcement for African-American heritage month that KTBS is running?It's such an embarrassment. This woman on this PSA says her nationality is "African-American". Now, just where is the country of Africa-America located? African-American is an ethnicity not a nationality. This PSA should be struck, it makes the area look very bad.

4:49 The reason KTAL does so much Texarkana news is because they have always has been a Texarkana station. Even though the physical studio has been in Shreveport since 1962, they have always been licensed out of Texarkana Texas. The majority of KTAL's viewers are in the Texarkana area so of course they are going to cater to them.
KTAL is not doing nearly as much Texarkana news as they used to. Texarkana does not have enough news to fill an entire newscast. You are to young to remember but for years KTAL used to run half of their newscast from Texarkana and the other half from Shreveport. They stopped doing that some time in the 1980's or early 1990's.
For the past 20 years both KSLA and KTBS have Texarkana bureaus trying to horn in on the Texarkana market. There must be something to it since all three local stations are covering Texarkana.
Well, let's see. The Texarkana metro area is approximately 100,000 people and the S'port-Bossier area is approximately 350,000. So, I guess I can now see why KTAL heavily skews its reporting to Texarkana.

I thought the same thing. They must of had a come to Jesus meeting in Little Rock. Speaking of Little Rock I see they are advertising another opening in master control. Seems to be higher then average turn over there now.
That's not surprising. I worked at a hub station and master control had a constant turnover. I have no idea how those guys did it.
I have seen KARK and they are not any better then KTAL.
Does any one know what's going on with programming at 6? i see a lot of shows listed on the tv guide that don't match what's actually on.

KTAL-6 is like a badly-managed fast-food franchise. Corporate is only worried about how the balance sheet looks and little else.
And badly managed fast food franchises get shut down. 6 should have been shut down years ago.
I agree except KTAL has been that way even long before Nexstar took over. KTAL has always been run by yo-yo's and as long as the corporate office and chief execs get their nut, nothing else matters. I remember when their studio cameras were so poorly registered, everybody looked like they were squashed.
No one really watches KTAL newscasts.
If it weren't for NBC HD programs, they'd go to black.
I thought the same thing about KTAL and KMSS. If it were not for NBC and FOX sports and NBC primetime I would never watch either station.

How did KTAL get the lottery? They mess it up all the time.
Stations bid for the lottery to air it as a way for viewers to turn to their channel.
KTBS didn't want the lottery any more so they dropped it. KSLA didn't want it so basically KTAL got the lottery by default.
Well someone at KTAL or the lottery needs to do something. The lottery drawings are missed or messed up all the time.
Until more people complain to the lottery office, nothing will change.
If that's the case lets bombard the lottery office with complaints.
KTAL must have read the lottery comments on here. They have only messed up the drawing one time in the past two weeks and that was an minor audio mess up.
Could be the new GM is paying attention to overall on-air product? Cummings was a nice guy but he didn't sweat details too much, always passing things off to someone else to handle.

Someone mentioned earlier about the cosmetic fix-ups KTAL had done (new carpet, sheetrock, lobby furniture, etc.) Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe most or all of that was done on trade. So unless they start putting giftcards & free-food coupons in everyone's pay envelope, you can pretty much forget about anyone getting a raise or anything of value as far as pay is concerned.
We do get gift cards. Once a year we get a gift card for a free Christmas ham or turkey.
Speaking of trades, we need to work a trade with Ivan Smith for a new refrigerator. That old raggedy ghetto refrigerator we have is pitiful.

That's the only way we will ever be in HD because corporate will never spend the money on the equipment.

This is waay off topic (but so is everything else)... I caught KTBS' Weathercast the past couple of days and noticed they're using a little "jingle-tone" during the weather grfx that sounds like Vanna White's "Wheel of Fortune" "jingle-tone" whenever they show the letters and give a clue. I can't explain why but this sound just bugs me. Anyone else notice this? To me it's like fingernails on a chalk-board.
KTBS got that new weather computer a month or two ago and its VERY annoying. Like finger nails on a chalk board. They have not worked out the kinks yet. All of the Mets have problems with it on air.
Had a double-take for a second.
I was scrolling through this blog and thought it said: "Former KTBS Employee in Porno for KTAL."
Now that would've been something!
