LR Station Froze in Time
Many of KATV's viewers are posting on the station's facebook page its signal is frozen. No explanation from Channel 7 what's wrong...just an explanation it is working on the issue!
UPDATE: KATV is now viewable on Comcast cable in Central Arkansas and AT and T. No word on what the problem is but Channel 7 says they are working on it!
4:50pm UPDATE: KATV's over the air signal has been restored. Still no word on what the problem was. Must've been major to keep the station off the air for an usual amount of time!

First we had snowy reception, back in the old days. Now we have frozen reception.
Here is an idea. Unplug it and wait for about five minutes, then plug it back in. Should solve the problem. That's what I do when my computer locks up. Couldn't hurt.
Dear Jim, we missed your station while it was (Still is) off the air all day Sunday...Oh wait...NO WE DIDN'T!!!!
Regards,
The Competition
Again, KATV is number one, across the board, every HH, every demo.
Thank goodness Fox doesn't care about weather. I got my football.
Ed Buckner is horrible.
I'm finding 7 and 4 horrible. Channel 7 audio sounds too processed and horible and on 4 they don't know to use the tools. They move the darn computer mouse around too much!
I gots the breaking new leader on. Fox 16!
Not a mojor problem. Just takes a while to hire a free lance engineer to fix the problem
They let go their very good engineer last year. Guess a lot of his salary they saved went into the ether yesterday with lost revenues.
No signal, no money.
If you are speaking about Porterfield, he retired, on his own. Great guy, but he was ready to leave.
"If you are speaking about Porterfield, he retired, on his own. Great guy, but he was ready to leave."
On his own... YEAH, RIGHT! He was ready to leave because certain individuals made his job FAR TO DIFFICULT by imposing impossible deadlines and failing to appreciate him for his talent and dedication.
Here we go again with the disgruntled engineers needing their voices to be heard. Please cry out on this thread too! We are waiting!
Crying? Uhh, no engineers equals no signal on the air. You can't get on the air without them. A necessary evil to sales, news and . . . well, lets' see . . . that's about all in the station.
Oh praise the engineers. Praise be to you, oh geeky one.
Still glad Melissa Simas is gone !
so does anybody know why the station was off the air?
Do you think anyone will say? I think Brainiac's theory did the trick.
Studio to Transmitter Link failure.
I can sleep now. I was on edge till I found out. Thank you.
Recently saw Dale Nicholson III out. Whats the deal with him? Was he forced to move on to another department?? Obviously, Chris Kane was a huge upgrade, but Dale III looks horrible. Overweight, out of shape, like he should have been taken off air long ago. Not even the same person. Hope all is well with him and he takes sincere care of himself.
Maybe a contingency plan for STL failure would include recording small 15 minute segments, then have a series of people race up to Shinall to feed the transmitter directly until STL is fixed. Think of all the money saved. We don't need no stinkin' extra equipment.
What in the Wide World Of Sports is a goin' on here?
How's about the ability to air an "Apology" slide. (bet there is not one in the entire station, including all tv station in the LR market) at the transmitter and tell the viewers of problems that might be watching over-the-air on an antenna at their house or apt.
DirecTV will air and apology (with music)for them after they get enough complaints on the station having "Technical Difficulties"
The broadcast quality and abilities are going straight into the ole crapper.
Tough to air an "apology" slide (slide? really?) when you aren't on the air!
Transmitter was on air. Studio to Transmitter link was off. So no audio/video made it from downtown to Shinall.
So in this case an "off-air" slide would have worked while the STL was being repaired.
Techno geeks are taking over. Look out.
Sorry, guess this should have been the thousandth comment about somebody's hair. That's way more important.
"Tough to air an "apology" slide (slide? really?) when you aren't on the air!"
Let's see . . . you are either a sales . . . I mean an Account Executive or the newest camera person in town. I do know that you don't work at THV because they have no camera people.
Hey, the techno geeks keep the thing on the air. They will be the last to go, in case you haven't figured that out yet.
How about a backup STL. Probably could have bought one with the money lost by being down.
When did Symas leave? Bet she is still reading this blog every day.
Bet she is still saying Nyune and Nyews. Sounds so school-trained.
FYI to the first poster: That "snowy" reception was known as thermal agitation.
Got questions? Ask your friendly geeky tech; not a button puncher.
Dawn Scott looked very confused and irritated tonight. Must have had a bad day.
