I had one of these police characters trying to entrap me on the internet a while back. He pretended to be legal age to start with, albeit only 18 yrs old, then after the date was made, he said "what if I seem to be a little younger than I told you", and when I asked repeated "how old are you", he hem-hawed around, and finally said that he is 16 years old. Whereupon I told him that I don't want anything to do with either a liar or a child. I knew by that point that it was one of these police characters trying to entrap and entice a lonely person on the internet who is not even inclined toward being a pedophile. My own sexual preference is for 25 to 35 years old, but I am not going to hold it against someone if they don't fit into my ideal, when they answer my posting and contact me.

I would not be surprised if that is what happened. The cops here set people up all the time.

Maybe people, including 6:28, don't need to be trolling the internet for hook-ups. Then you'd avoid the problem altogether. When you talk to someone and set up a date, sight unseen, you are asking for trouble, and if you get it, you have only yourself to blame. Maybe you should try to get out a little more...

It seems as though 6:28 is a moral and upstanding person, looking for honest, age-appropriate sex via the internet. I'm sure his parents are proud!!!
Hey 6:28 Try giving Brett Cummins a call, he is lonely also. All you need is a dog collar.

At 1:17 PM, December 13, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't know any Brett Cummins, but when you are too bashful to pickup someone at a bar, and you don't use alcohol in the first place, the internet is a good way to meet sex playmates. I hate that it is also used by pedophiles and ephebophiles, but the police should not be trying to entrap and entice those who have no desire to be pedophiles. If this man was trying to make a date with an underage girl, then I am glad that he got arrested, but it is more likely that he was tricked into it without any prior propensity for contact with underaged females.

At 1:27 PM, December 13, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

By "tricked", I am talking about what the police character did to me a while back, pretending to be a prospective playmate who wanted to get together with me, then getting me turned on while pretending to be of legal age, and then at the last minute, gradually letting me know that (he,she,it) was adjusting the claim of age downward. I'm glad that I have watched that Chris Hansen show enough to know better than to fall for it.

At 1:33 PM, December 13, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Like it or not, the internet is being used as a resource for guys & gals to meet virtually and determine suitability for in-person encounters. As long as both parties are of the legal age of consent for legal adult relationships, this is a legitimate use of the web. It's the age we live in and while I prefer meeting people in public first, I don't criticize people for using the web as a way to break the ice.

Folks who do so should consider consequences if they don't perform due-diligence like stress legal age requirements, etc. Otherwise folks could wind up creating a problem for themselves. If the other party seems vague or if they admit to being underage, say I don't see underage people and have no intention ever of doing that. Cops don't care if you accidentally misunderstand, they are only concerned about fishing for a bust, plain and simple.

Bull! Read all the articles on his arrest. He was clearly talking online to who he thought was a 14 yr old girl and drove to Sam's Town Casino to meet her for planned sex. "She" turned out to be a police officer but his intentions were for sex with a 14 year old girl. Sick, in my opinion, and I hope he will be listed as a sex offender permanently. It frightens me that he has served as a soccer coach locally to young girls and boys and that he obviously intended to prey on a young child. This was his first time being caught...who knows if this was his first offense?? Sure, he seemed like a nice guy. Don't they all?

Good one, 12:57! My question to 6:28 and his kind...just what websites are you on, trying to find a "sex playmate?" That's not a dating site. And you are shocked at what you find there? You aren't looking to date. You're trying to get laid. In the most desperate way, via a total stranger online whom you are trusting to tell you the truth.

I totally agree. I think you (6:28) are fixing to get caught if you keep that up. It's not entrapment, it's just waiting for you to bite. Oh, and I have heard it's the worst thing you can go to prison for.

People have been picking up sex playmates in bars since way back before Miss Kitty was running the Longbranch, and you judgemental busybody old biddies can just attend to your own business, take care of your housefull of cats, or your poodle dogs, or whatever butinsky old women do when they are not trying to tell other people what to do or not do in their own private lives. Busybody 7:07 & busybody 9:12, you can bet that I am using the internet to hook-up for casual sex, and I am not having to give anybody the opportunity to take half of my capital assets in order to get laid. But I am looking for adults, and I am not a pedophile or an ephebophile, and the police should be trying to do something about those who are actually molesting children instead of trying to trick someone on the internet who had no such inclination in the first place. Everybody knows that boy scouts, sports, and church camps are where children are being molested.

Has anyone else noticed that KSLA has put on a "Bounce" network for people nostalgic for the days when there were "colored" water fountains, "colored" restrooms, "colored" entrances into every building, we now have a TV station for people who want it "our way". This is the most racist thing I have seen in many years.

I have to agree that if the authorities really wanted to do something about protecting children from child molestation, they would go undercover in the churches of America rather than on the internet.

4:04, when people in Miss Kitty's saloon were picking each other up, they actually could see each other before sealing the deal. You didn't have 41-year-old men meeting 12-year-old girls in Miss Kitty's bar. And as for not having to give up "half of your capital assets" in order to get laid, something tells me that no one's breaking down your door to marry you anyway. You are not on dating sites, you are in chatrooms, and you are gonna end up on the wrong end of a chat before it's all over. And I'm not a buttinsky and I don't own cats. I also don't have to troll the internet looking for sex from strangers. Idiot.

When I was growing up in the 1960s I tried not to be a sissy-boy, but I am who I am. When you grow up as a sissy-boy, the preachers and other church leaders, the teachers, the coaches, the boy scout leaders, and your older family members are all constantly using you for sexual pleasure. I learned very quickly that the more hateful against gays that a man talks, the more likely he is to be a closet case. 9:11, 11:04, 11:26 is not fooling me one bit. I remember when I worked at a refinery right out of high school, during the beginning of the gay rights movement. While we would be in the control room in a group, some of these men would say the most hateful things, and remember that it was illegal to be gay back then. Then the very man who said, "they ought to line all thse faggots up in front of a firing squad and blow them all away" would be all over me as soon as we were out of sight of anybody else out in the plant. 11:26, you can't fool me, you are talking trash about Redford because he rejected you. Wow, and here I thought we had some stuff going on in my market. You win!

Do any of you know what is going on with my former KSLA coworkers Sylvia Rachel, Sherry Warren, Mike Pass, James Russell, and Marla Gilcrease? Have not heard anything about them in years.

At 2:20 PM, December 16, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sherry Warren was on the cover of the "Inquisitor" a year or so ago. She was apparently a drug addict, and she was arrested for hot checks or some such violation. Very sad situation, and she has my best wishes, and hopes for a full recovery. I don't even recognize any of the other names.

Last I heard, Mike Pass went to work in Houston doing corporate meteorological work. Shari Warren got married and tried to revive her career by doing PR for casinos as a consultant. She has seemed to have disappeared from radar in Shreveport. Sylvia Rachel "allegedly" lost her job with a casino for some "allegedly inappropriate behavior as an employee" while on the job. Apparently has a reputation for filing lawsuits against employers or anyone for that matter and so is assumed to be a hire-risk. Does volunteer fundraising and community theater. Marla "Mo" Gilcrease was News Director over in Monroe but someone previously posted that she may have left or been let-go.
I think Russell was the engineer? No word on him.

I prefer to use the term queer. Gay was a good word that was taken by the homosexuals to help them be accepted more by the normal people. Faggot is acceptable, but not gay.

I happen to be homosexual, and I prefer to just be called "James". But I am not upset by any of those slurs. You can't force people to like you, and you can't force people to respect you, but you can however force people to obey the law of the land, and you can work to achieve legal equality, and you can take legal action against those who violate your rights under the Constitution of the United States. The people of African ancestry in this country have made a drastic mistake by giving anyone who says the "N-word" power over them. I am interested in achieving real legal equality, not just getting people to whisper when they say words like "queer" or "faggot".

Former KSLA Employee I have your answers. Sylvia Rachel left the station in 1994 or 95 to go to work at the Horseshoe Casino as their spokesperson. She worked at Horseshoe several years before she was fired. "Allegedly" she had sex with her boss in her office and all of it was "allegedly" recorded by security. I know two people at Horseshoe who have seen and heard the entire "alleged" act on the "alleged" security video. The last I heard Sylvia had moved down somewhere in Avoyelles Parish. Since they have that big casino down there she may be working for Grand Casino Avoyelles.

Sherry Warren. What a sad case she turned out to be. If you remember Sherry was always a party girl but her habits to over her life and destroyed it. Sherry left the station about the same time Sylvia did and went to work at the Isle Of Capri Casino as their spokesperson. She was not there very long and started bouncing back and forth between working at the Isle, the Horseshoe with Sylvia, and working at KTBS. Sherry married a guy named Scott and they adopted a baby. When her habits got out of control she and Scott divorced and he got custody of the baby. She has been arrested several times for drugs and forgery. I have not seen or heard anything about here in a year or two. Now Sherry's cousin Malinda that worked at KVKI is still around. She does the commercials for Moffitt.

Mike Pass left the station in 1998 but left Shreveport for Houston in 2000. Ed Bradley who was the GM at the time hired Ed Duransik from KTBS which freaked Mike out so Mike went and signed a contract with KTBS. When Ed found out he took Mike off the air for the last three months of his contract and had Patrick Dennis or Ed do all the on air. Mike worked at KTBS until 2000 when he went to work for Relient Energy as a senior met. Mike worked for them and several other companies and is now work for Centaurus Energy in Houston as a senior met.

James Russell left the station sometime in the late 90's and went to work at KMSS/KSHV. He worked at KMSS for a few years. James got divorced and left KMSS and Shreveport in 2000 or 2001 and went to work at the CBS affiliate in Fort Worth. Not sure if he is still at the CBS affiliate but the last I heard James was still in Fort Worth.

Marla Gilcrease, Sherry's ex-girlfriend is still around. Kind of. I forgot exactly when Marla left the station, but she came back to town several years ago and went to work over at KTAL. She worked there for several years then moved over to KNOE/KAQY in Monroe as News Director. Previous posts said she was either fired or asked to leave. According to the KNOE website an opening for news director was posted on 12/12/11 so obviously she is no longer there.

I hope this answers all your questions Former KSLA Employee.

O.K. James. Would you be calling an Egyptian a N-word. They are of African ancestry. What about the people of Libya and Morocco? They are of African ancestry. Are they N-words? Your argument to make yourself normal is not holding water. Are N's the only people that can be called African Americans? I don't think I would be calling a person from Egypt, Libya or Morocco a N-word.

Anon @ 3:05, you seem to be challenged in the area of intelligence. I did not say anything about the people of Egypt, Libya, or Morrocco. I made an observation about people of African ancestry in this country, the USA. They have made such an issue out of the N-word that they have given their enemies an easy weapon to use against them. Anon 11:31 is trying to use words as a weapon against homosexuals in a similar manner, and I say that those words are of no effect whatsoever. Who cares what kind of slurs that any bigot spews out of his mouth? The only weapons that have any effect are the laws against homosexuals, and the Lawrence vs. Texas decision and the fall of DADT means that marriage equality is the only hurdle remaining in the way of full victory. And that is coming faster than I would have ever imagined. It is already in place in Iowa, the quintessential middle American state. Who cares if bigots don't like you? Who cares if bigots don't respect you? Who cares about a word?

Reading about the former KSLA folks brought back memories of that idiot Ed Bradley and his stupid editorials. I heard he got caught with his pants down with another KSLA staffer when a sheriff's deputy or state police was checking out a car parked off the highway. He later tried to get the anchor-woman fired but she threatened sexual harassment. Why Raycom let him get away with so much, we can only guess. After his failed mayoral bid (that MeeShell left KSLA to be his PR hack), his wife divorced his ass and he's now selling cars in Dallas. Good riddance douchebag!

Shari Warren... now there was a piece of work. Gal had a great gig but too much hubris and nose-candy plus bumping her head under Dan Bates desk took its toll. Word was she was doing one of the casino bosses too as she and her pal Sylvia were like joined at the hip working the casinos.
You can ask anyone who used to work at KSLA back then, Sylvia and Shari were a mess. To say Sylvia had issues would be understatement. Someone told me she could be black one minute and white the next. And big into creating a stink over nothing. Her history of this behavior goes as far back as when she used to work at KTBS, apparently she had a thing with her news boss at that time too. Both gals had good jobs and they pissed it all away being dumbasses and thinking they were untouchable. Such hicks!

6:31 PM Of course we remember all that. Some of us had a thank god she's gone party when Sylvia left. I never had a problem with Dan, but Ed was another story. We also had a thank god he's gone party when Ed left. For all of the things we know about, and the things we don't, Ed is getting his pay back. Do you know if Ed's wife got the house in Southern Trace when they divorced? A friend of mine is a realtor and said it was foreclosed on. I forget if that was this year or the end of last year.

Not the original poster but here's what I do know. Ed Bradley's house in Southern Trace sat on the market for quite awhile. Someone closer to knowing details told me that it had "unique decor" and the asking price was "really up there". I think the house was upside down and because of the "unique decor" & high asking price, it was a pink elephant and no one wanted it. Not sure if Ed's wife got the house but she did get plenty from what I gather. I think Ed wound up dealing with "paternal issues" with a former staffer.

Dan Bates aka: "Masterbates" was so full of his own BS, I seem to recall him spending too much time out of the station on other projects like a Candy/Nut Store franchise he and Blackie partnered up with at South Park Mall. Viacom Corporate could never find him at work, that among other things got their attention. What little I was privy to is enough to say the guy was a despicable human being. Some say he turned a leaf when he had a heart-attack while running a station in Oklahoma; I know some folks there were glad he left. I know salespeople who have nothing nice to say about him, even to this day. One guy reminded me of when Bates cancelled CBS Sunday Morning to run infomercials instead. Dumb programming & adsales move as viewers were pissed. Bate's answer to everything was new sets, anchor-blondes, open bureaus in malls, spend on grfx and lean hard on salespeople. Not a nice guy to work for unless you had a skirt.

James, you need a lesson in geography. If Egypt, Morocco and libya aren't in Africa then pray tell where are they. By your definition, only black people in this country are deserving of the title African Americans.

Again, please don't call or compare someone from Egypt, Morocco or Libya an African American. I am afraid most would be insulted but you would be right if you did. Now do you get it?

@12:43, you don't have to watch them. KTBS news is broadcast constantly on 3.3, and of course their mid-day news is on 3.1 at 11:30. Not that KTBS is perfect, but it is a much better alternative to trying to watch KSLA

Not sure if all stations have gone to computerized live-switching but I seem to recall when KTBS first did this about a year or so ago. Mics weren't opened on cue, lots of problems. They've seemed to have gotten the bugs worked out. Everyone else... don't know if it's operator error at KSLA. I do know the MCO at KTAL can glitch up at times. Seems owners have gone for cost-reduction over reliability in switching it seems.

Got foreclosed, taken off mkt and was totally remodeled inside and out. Last I heard asking price was fairly north of $500K. Guess Ed took a bath, not sure but he may have filed chapter 13 due to all his financial "obligations".

Does anyone know if Bastrop, LA, still has that "funky" smell?

Of course it does, but what does that have to do with anything?

I have to agree with a previous post about those KSLA editorials. PLEASE tell James to stop. Ed Bradley ruined them forever when he was doing them.

Speaking of Ed, here is something I just found out. BPCC had a group called the Telecommunications Advisory Board that would meet once a year to discus the program and suggest what needed to be added or changed. There were several people on this board. Ed from KSLA. George Servin from KTBS. Mike Whitehead for The Times. Betty Jo Le Brun from the FIlm Commission. Melinda Coyer from Cumulus, and sever others. Even though this board would only meet once a year, Ed never attended a meeting, but he did use his position as a board member in his personal promotion.

As with a lot of those board positions for education & non-profits, they are mostly for-show and serve little purpose if any. People serve on boards and many show up to get in the group photo or attend the annual recognition dinners. Just a mucky-muck schmooze function to put on paper as if to show community service, etc. It's basically bullshit PR device for educational & non-profit groups to show outreach, ascertainment, etc. No real purpose other than that. The folks you mentioned didn't or don't have a clue about media outside of their own self-regard or self-benefit.

I remember that 10:46. I was at BPCC at the time and helped with the meeting. Everyone you mentioned attended the Telecommunications Advisory Board meetings every year except Ed Bradley. There were several other board members but it has been so long ago I have forgotten who they were. Ed never attended any of the meetings and the second year he did not call or e-mail, or have his secretary call in for him like she did the first year. However, that second year Ed did make an apology in his "Ed" itorial either later that same week or the following week that went out on air to the entire viewing area. It started out "Sometimes when people do not call that does not mean they are not busy doing important things." I was working in the TLCM office at the old South Campus when I saw this going out on air. What a class act there Ed.

What's going on in KSLA's marketing department? I see on the job postings you are advertising for a marketing director and a marketing producer.

Just another name for "Promotions" doing 2 jobs.

Sounds like it's not working, so that's why they have two openings in the same department.

I had forgotten about a lot of the old KSLA crew until I read these posts. Does any one know what happened to Miss Over-enounciation Sharon Frame? And what was the girls name who co-anchored the morning show and noon with Sheri Warren? For the life of me I can't remember her name. Where did she wind up?

Sharon Frame left CNN and is a motivational speaker living in the Atlanta Area. She has "written" a few books about success, motivation, etc. Do a google, you'll find her. She gets speaking engagements at Black Colleges and other similar organizations.
I recall years ago seeing her on KSLA when she was going ultra Afro-chique complete with beaded cornrows and wearing traditional garb. A lot of viewers saw this and said "WTF?" Lasted maybe 3 months. Had a face and demeanor better suited to radio.

Not sure but I think the woman who co-anchored with Shari Warren on KSLA was Mimi Paige. She left KSLA shortly after Ed Bradley became GM (as did several other people). She went to work in Asheville, NC and she was killed when her car was struck by an 18 wheeler on the interstate during a snowstorm.

I had totally forgotten about Mimi. I still think of her as a radio personality. Not a television personality. No it wasn't Mimi.

Honey it's hell getting old. I could have told you her name and everything else just a few years ago. The girl I'm talking about wore glassies when her contacts were messing up, and had sandy blonde hair. I want to say her name was something like Sharon or Shelly? Her name was similar to Sheri Warren's. If I remember correctly she left KSLA in the early 1990's before Sylvia and Sheri left for the casinos. She was one of the three anchors we had at the time who's name started with an S.

Are you sure you're not thinking about Christy Walton? She went to work at one of the stations in New Orleans. No one else comes to mind.

You are so right. It was Christy I was thinking about. For some reason I could have sworn her name started with an S. Honey this getting old is for the birds.

I wonder if Christy is still around the New Orleans area, or still in broadcasting. I Googled her but all I get is information on this Christy Walton who is one of the Walmart heiresses.

Well you could google her name and add any of the New Orleans TV stations in the search window. I bet you'll see her name linked there somehow unless she's no longer working in TV.
Just a thought.

I did all that and every combination I used always goes back that Walmart heiress.

I think she left KSLA for WVUE in New Orleans but I can't say for sure it's been so long.

Getting back to the original thread. When is Derek due in court? Anything new with his case?

At 6:36 PM, January 04, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hadn't heard a peep.

I was wondering the same thing. I knew Derek in the mid 90's and would never have expected him to do anything like this. He was very intelligent and thoughtful, not sure what drew him down this path. I've tried to look at court records, but they aren't on line like other places. Oh and I'd hate to hear what you thought of my on air work back in the day.....
