In the Ark-La-Tex the Early Bird Gets the Worm....

..or in this case the first look at news. A tipster says, "Starting this Tuesday, August the 31st, KTBS-TV, Channel 3 of Shreveport will begin broadcasting its morning news starting at 4:30am. As everyone knows, this is a first for the market."

The management at KTBS is out of control. They only see dollar signs. Workers are miserable and they just keep cracking the whip.

I disagree. Many stations around the country have news at 4:30am. The workers aren't miserable. Get a grip.

A little birdie (gm at KTBS) told me that they plan to unviel their HD news very soon. He also stated they are eager for the new changes. A few possible changes to the Arklatex news includes possibly KSLA having a news at 4:30am...KTAL may have their 6pm news to one hour...KTBS has mentioned a 4pm news as well.

KTAL needs to keep up with the everchanging market. They haven't changed a thing in over a year.

KTAL needs to keep the 6'oclock news at 30 minutes. If they take "The Wheel" off, my wife Sharon Jean will have to be committed.

Well "Wheel of Fortune" is definitely strong with the 49+ demo but it's also relatively expensive as a syndicated program. I think Nexstar will sit this 6pm hour long newscast out as they may wind up getting more viewers who are bored S@#%tless from the lackluster hour long news from 3 & 12. And with an election coming up... "Wheel" is one of the most sought after programs as it has the higher "older demos" which is very favored by campaign planners.
My2cents anyway.

KTAL should get on the ball and start a 4pm news. All they would have to do is cancel an episode of Judge Judy and Joe Brown...yet they still have one of each left.

Anyone with a HD signal from KTAL please answer: Is KTAL airing "Wheel Of Fortune" in HDTV? Tropo conditions have not allowed me to see any SHV TV in early evenings in a long time.

Wanna bet quickly after KTBS goes HD, that KTAL or KSLA will attempt some sort of widescreen SDTV newscast. Nexstar did this with their CBS and FOX stations in Springfield MO after KSPR (ABC) went HD in November 2009.

The answer is no. KTAL is not airing "Wheel" in HD.

Wheel of Fortune is NOT in HD on KTAL. To the HD statemnet, you are more than likely correct. But, I'd expect KSLA to go widescreen before KTAL.

I thought KTBS news was already the only one in Shreveport in HD ??

This is what I got from KTBS general manager: Myself- "I noticed that KTBS broadcasts in widescreen format. But, when does KTBS plan to go HD?" GM- "Thanks for the email. We are currently making the transition to HD news and should be complete very soon."

KTBS local news is widescreen SDTV

Yes it is. They are implementing new HD features as of now.

KTBS is really beginning to step up to become a market leaders. They're starting to implement new graphics, new music, and a new additude toward the news. I haven't looked at any rating lately, but if KSLA is over KTBS, it won't be for long.

When KTBS goes HD...some local on-air talent is going to have to do some serious make-up revisions.
