That was such a non-story. Must have been a slow day at Arkansas Business. Hacky reporting, too. "It's not known whether there is a contract or not."

Someone with a news-sharing agreement with THV (HINT: Arkansas Business) obviously wanted to smear KARK like crazy at the first chance they got.

They made mistakes and should have been susepended, but not fired. KARK made the wrong decision in who to fire, it should be the idiot general manager that is letting this station sink into oblivion. They only have one good on-air now, Jancey Sheats. They fired or let all the others leave without trying to keep them.

The person in charge of engineering that continues to let an on-the-street reporter use the microphone with the "bug" in it needs to be fired. Someone different gets it every day and this has been going on for months. This has to have been noticed by technical people there.

Whom else was "fired" from KARK? Pray tell . . .

Ah, I was wondering how long it would take for the obligatory Meredith Mitchell comment.

As for the article, I agree that it was very well produced and absolutely was a good representation for how many newsrooms operate -- but they shouldn't have 1) done it on company time and 2) posted it to YouTube when they are prominent on-air personalities.

I actually heard that THV was considering doing a story on it before Arkansas Business. Maybe they decided they wanted to have a non-TV entity do the story so it would seem less petty?

It's a shame they used poor judgement and a lack of common sense. You cannot expect to keep your job if you do something like this even if you're not intending to target the place you work for. Yes, they used company time, equipment and their co-workers - That may have been what brought termination. It's a shame those that got fired lost their jobs in this not-so-recovered yet economy. They will have difficulty finding broadcast jobs after this.

Such a non-story? People got fired and several others suspended. In the realm of news, that's a story.

Can anyone link to the videos in question, or have they been removed?

KARK as well as KTAL are going under. Thanks to who? You knew it, Nexstar. Someone needs to buy Nexstar and quick. Anyone agree?

Management not at fault here. All on the employees.

Something tells me KTHV was behind this one. GM Larry Audas would have to go bathe himself in the Jordan after watching this one. Then, execute divine judgment.

I hope it doesn't kill their careers. It was stupid, but not terminal.

How did the story develop, get leaked or otherwise?

One thing is for certain, they will not find jobs in the LR Broadcast Market.

I don't know why people keep talking about KARK going under -- their ratings have done nothing but go up in the last year. At least based on preliminary May ratings, they shot up to force a three-way tie at 6AM in households and even won at 5PM -- dethroning KATV in that time slot for the first time in about two decades. Granted, that was before they fired a nice chunk of their on-air personalities in this fiasco. It will be interesting to see how things shake out in July and November after the soon-to-come mass changeup on-air.

Speaking of losing a lot of on-air personalities, isn't KLRT/Fox 16 about to have like 4 reporters leave in the next few months when their contracts come up?

Those videos just go to show that there's nothing to do on the weekends in a newsroom.

12:52-That's the truth! The first weekend shift I worked I was blown away-everyone went out and got drunk in the parking lot between the 6 and 10 on Saturdays. The whole newsroom/camera opperators/prodcuation staff was trashed by the time the show came on. Just goes to show no one watches on the weekends!

Wait a minute. Did someone say just reporters and a cameraperson? How did it get recorded? Gotta have been a "button puncher" in there somewhere.

I think it was an OTS camera man/person that recorded it. Anyway, whom were they? Sumbody's got to know.

Is Rogala back at KARK? Wondered how long they could do without him. Gonna be sum whip crackin'

Without a doubt, the most experienced manager in the state.

Non-issue? I'm a big KARK fan, including on weekends, and was floored by this. If there's one thing you absolutely cannot do in news is make fun of the people/area you're covering. F-bombs aside, using footage from actual events and mocking the rednecks that live in this area was a terrible choice. To make it worse, the whole act wasn't particularly funny, just shocking.

Who knew that Channel 4s two biggest "Plain Jane" types -- recently married Thompson and Courntey "The Semen Deamon" Collins -- would be the ones to come up with something as over-the-top as this was. Can't help but feel a little bad for the chubby sports guy who appeared for about 5 seconds in the whole clip, but managed to drop a F-bomb of his own.

There's no way you can respect Thompson as a reporter in any market if this video makes the rounds before he's put back on air. I wonder if it was truly a joint endeavor or if he just managed to wreck his new bride's career for some silly idea he had.

btw-the whole KARK4/Nextar "down the drain" posts are silly; as another poster correctly pointed out, KARK has seen a surge in recent months (and in my opinion, does, by far, the most professional job of the 4 local entities). The decision to put Mallory Hardin's hot body in the morning desk was the best move they ever made, and they've followed through with that formula with by adding O'Hara and her perkiness to the sports desk and just unveiled the latest blonde (who sounds soooo much like Sheats) for the weekend rotation.

Better reporting. Better promotion. Far better and more modern looking studio and broadcast graphics (seriously, someone wake up the slipping-KATV and tell them it's NOT the early 1980s...I literally quit watching when they went to the god awful and distracting yellow background with funky graphics and text fonts). Information presented in a more organized fashion. MUCH better looking on-air talent than the goons and trolls over at KHTV. Less creepier weathermen that the other channels.

KARK's latest female, news-reader addition to the news desk is "best in market."

Someone keeps getting the "tinny" mic on the KARK news set. Shame . . .
