Web Poll Results: Who Has the Best Overall News Operation?
According to ya'll, the blog readers KARK has the best overall news operation. KARK topped the list with 34.1 percent of the vote / 104 votes; KATV came in second with 23.9 percent of the vote/ 73 votes; KTHV came in third with 22.6 percent of the votes /69 votes; KLRT last with 19.3 percent of the vote / 59 votes.

Now please don't shoot the messenger, but why is it that no one takes KLRT seriously? I think they do a very respectable job. And let's not forget, CNN and many other cable stations were using their shots from the game when reporting the death of the coach at the Tulsa vs. Arkansas game. They don't suck that bad. I truthfully don't know how KARK got the top spot in the 'poll'
I just want to say that this poll means absolutely nothing. It's basically a measurement of how many people from each station read this blog.
Exactly. And the more people that work at a station, the more votes that station gets for themselves. It was a ridiculous poll from the start.

We hate KLRT because they come into our market and want us to respect them. Hell our stations have been here for OVER 50 YEARS!
Also, we tried to get jobs there when they first openned and we're turned down and had to stay at our crappy stations.

Fox does a good job of producing a respectable product at 9pm. KARK got the top spot in the poll because they do have the best overall news operation. They have fewer tools than the other stations (FOX included) and yet work harder and put on a better product than any other station.

how many times does NBC,CNBC,MSNBC,NBC nightly news, ABC nightly news, CBS nightly news, Cspan, and just about any other news organization use channel 4,7 and 11 for breaking news coverage? Too many to count, CNN used fox 1 time!! Call me when you reach the hundred time mark, and then maybe your comment will hold water.
If you want in at fox that bad, i see they have many job openings if you can get out of your no compete.
What ever station you work for would be glad to get rid of you, if your best attitude is to say yu work for a bad station.
KLRT is the best in the market because of their outstanding STUDIO LIGHTING!!! And, don't forget it.
yeah, i only watch the stations that have the best studio lighting because i am pathetic. news doesn't matter to me, it's all about whether or not the anchors have a nice hair light because i am a total douche. studio lighting is my life and i should kill myself.

We believe you 6:18. You don't work at Fox. You're not the one who makes half of the KLRT related posts; both as a third person supporter and as a jealous employee at one of 'the big three', and occasionally as an actual fox 16 employee. You would never stoop to such sock puppetry as to make a masquerade post at, say 6:18, then post again at, oh, say 9:00, to try to give off the impression that someone believed your last post to be legit. Nine o'clock on the dot - maybe if you weren't so obsessed with this blog you might be able to get your live shots off without a hitch.

There, again, you show your lack of knowledge of the industry. Everything at a broadcast facility has something to do with the studio; everything. I can tell that you are perturbed (upset) and I can understand why. You are probably a button puncher in MC and at the height of a mediocre career.
no, i'm a photographer. i don't get paid to light the studio, and i have more important things like deadlines to worry about. if i got paid to light the studio then i would give a damn.

If only Becky Ditchfield were still in the Little Rock market, then maybe Today's THV would be number 1 instead of KARK, even though KARK does have the most professional looking set (in my opinion). Personally, I still prefer THV because it is more viewer friendly, and Meredith Mitchell is good looking-although she can't hold a candle to Becky.

The studio lighting on FOX16 tonight at 5pm was OUTSTANDING! I was so captivated, I watched the entire show!

By the way, whatever happened to Kate Sullivan. To me, she's the hottest woman ever to step foot in the Little Rock market, with the exception of Becky Ditchfield. Now her & Becky working together, now that would make one hell of a team. Throw in Stacey Donaldson, & to me, thats an all star team.
Kate Sullivan appears each weekday morning on WCBS-DT. I watch the show quite often. Man, she really got good after she left KATV.
Some of the worst studio lighting in the U.S. is to be found in two of the LR stations. The anchors appear to have been dead for six months and don't know it.

Well 4, 7, and 11; if you don't get your s''t together, then you will be looking UP at Fox 16 in the ratings instead of looking down at them. It looks like Fox 16 IS for real. (Like I've said in previous post and like i'll say here, it WON'T be because of the studio lighting either.
But at least they do know how to properly light a set, and that is more that the others know.
16 will never catch the other three. The 9pm start gives them the edge of being first but they have to compete with the networks best shows at 9p. That gives them a limited upside. As far as the EN goes, they have no great news lead ins like Oprah or Judy. If you program your station for a young demo, which all good Fox station do then it hurts for news which is an older demo. I will say that ratings don't always matter though. If the viwers are loyal and the ad dollars come with it then it can be very good. The product gets better evryday but it has it's limits.
Yeah, but here is where your logic is flawed. The 9 p.m. "network's best" show becomes a re-run after a few weeks, then, gets replaced by another short-run series, and on, and on, and on.
KLRT's news is constant.
This is why KLRT Channel 30 will pass the others. Not only do they hit the air with the news an hour earlier, they have the best technical department in the state. Bar none. Just look at their product.
The best news operation in Arkansas? HAH! Little Rock teevee is a JOKE! You guys wouldn't know a news story if it crawled up your leg and bit you in the wicky-wacky-woo-hoo.
THV has now suffered yet another loss with the death of Larry the Garden Cat. Things are obviously going to hell very quickly at THV. Its amazing how much turnover has occured at THV in the past year or so.

Now I know this sounds awfully tacky, but did Larry commit susicide because of all the BS going on at Gannett , or could Joey or some other pet have gotten jealous? It is still (far as I know) a mystery how Larry died.

Now that THV is officially in "the toilet" (as if it weren't there already), the real news competition is between KATV, KLRT, and KARK. While KLRT prbably has the best news coverage (in reality, its more of a toss up between KLRT and KARK). Babes sell in this market, and that's the only reason that KATV's ratings haven't "tanked" yet. If KLRT had the babes that KATV had (and by the way, KARK has a few babes as well) then KLRT would be number 1 in this market. By the way, there are "no" babes currently residing at THV.
P.S. My early 2008 babe bracket prediction; Melinda Mayo will defeat Melissa Simas in the finals. Meredith Mitchell will not survive the first round. If Becky Ditchfield were somehow to enter, she would still have a very ligitimate shot of winning even though she's now in Denver. But personally, I would be happy with either Melinda Mayo or Melissa Simas winning.
Who the hell is Carey Busey and who is this "Robyn" chick? I've looked at the news teams for all the Little Rock stations and I don't see them anywhere. Do they, by chance, work in Shreveport, Fort Smith, or NWA? Are they former Little Rock media members. just curious.

Try out the new THV morning show drinking game! See how many things can be spelled wrong on the bottom of the screen during the show. One shot for each incorrectly spelled word -- two for the bad grammar!
Seriously -- does anyone actually check the spelling there anymore? Every morning this week, something's been spelled wrong. Or Tom calls for something to be put on the screen and it's not there. Who's running that place, a bunch of monkeys?
Another thing about that station is that one only has to have their set on to hear the wide range of audio levels from commercial to commercial and commercial back to studio during live programs. Monkeys could possibly do a better job.
If I know Gannett, it's probably one person trying to do the job of three persons, or more.

Carey Busey, Is a play on words and physical features. They mean a female Gary Busey, thus "Carey", and they relate this to Meredeth Mitchell, the weekend weather girl, who has the same toothy mouth (grin) as Gary Busey.
She is a hard-working girl and does a good job. Other stations should be proud to have anyone like her. I think she is pretty.
