For all the crap that Nexstar pulls, I have to say... this isn't a bad idea at all.
What crap would that be? All I hear is there is no new ideas. Well this is one that the other stations have not tried. Now this is truly what the viewer wants. Take your talent, content and road shows and whatever else and beat these guys. I agree with original post. KARK is headed in the right direction with this one. As a viewer I can't wait to see what the "me too" is after this one.
This is a good idea. But so are the road shows. And hiring great talent is always the best idea.
KATV will limit commercial time at 6:00 to one thirty minute beak for Oxyclean.
Nothing wrong with Oxyclean. Rene Shapiro does a good job hosting
A good idea? How about a great idea! It's original!! All the other is good too but the whole point was everyone was doing the same old things.
Translation: we can't even give the ad time away in our news!
Being original doesn't make it good. Nothing original about having HOT FEMALES but it wins for KATV year after year
Don't think you can read. It appears it isn't working for them anymore.
Actually the limited commercial thing has been in sweeps for years. Letterman did many years ago, he acutally went commercial free. Had Logos pop up every now and then.
Most recently NBC and Brian Williams went with limited commercials and World news Tonight with Charles Gibson is doing the same thing during May.
It's not an original idea, it's copying the network. I'm sure KATV will try it in July or November and say they invented it. Then again i would just like to see them run only 2minute breaks. Somebody with lots of free time, like a blogger, should track teh amount of commercials in each newscast. Which one is realy news and which one is really sales.
To say that KARK isn't selling spots is totally false. They are making budget. Can the same be said for channel 7?
or any other stations for that matter?
Someone clearly does not know a THING about ad sales...
10:29 says: Translation: we can't even give the ad time away in our news!
NO WAY you are part of any "WE" at KARK...not selling spots? Are you nuts? Your only problem is you wish you were here, with a great product, great management and great opportunity!
What?
I believe 9:07 was responding to a post that got pulled and deservedly so.
Turns out, in lieu of traditional commercial time, the expanded newscasts at KARK will be underwritten by central Arkansas Wendy's locations. I'd be interested to see that invoice.
from what i hear, KARK and Wendy's have a great partnership and Wendy's knows the value of television and even more so, the great value of KARK. my guess is you've never seen an invoice with that amount of value for the dollar...
Seven isnt winning at much these days... and the women arent fine.. they are country fine., which is decidedly different and certainly not what you want out of a journalist.
Snobs don't get far in Arkansas
Nobody gets far in Arkansas
The best of Arkansas are the worst of New York! I got the bumper sticker today....
Melissa Simas and Tracey Douglass in the mornings. What a way to wake up. Crouching dragon and hidden tiger. Prrrrrrrrr!!!
Lots of people get far in Arkansas. The list is long of quality people who now have major market or national gigs.
KRISTIN FISHER -- the only way to wake up in the mornings, eh ????
Melissa Simas is the only good looking woman on 7. The rest would require beer goggles the size of a scuba mask.
Snobs may not go far in Arkansas ( they probably do) but the whole state is built on the super christian idea of judging your neighbors. So judge your way in to heaven my brethren...
"KRISTIN FISHER -- the only way to wake up in the mornings, eh ???? "
Especially in a cramped RV!!!
Melissa Simas is on Ch. 4 not 7.
Whatever channel she is not hot
Isn't her name Marissa?
KATV has added a novel segment to its "News" shows. They now have a Hispanic segment. Man, that ought to get the viewers. Anyone else going to follow?
They need less commericials and more Rupp!
Add dollars must be rolling in for KARK. I watchedthe 6p tonight and can't believe they really only ran 4 commercials. I have to say te viewers were the real winners. We will see how it works for them but it's a great idea.
All I'm hearing across the area is 4 is doing all the right things. News, Promotions amd Sales. Say what you want but they are getting the attention. 7 and 11 better get with the game because 4 is raising the levels across the board.
"7 and 11 better get with the game because 4 is raising the levels across the board."
Excuse me, but does Channel 7 not have Kristin Fisher, Beth Hunt, Heather Crawford and Anne Pressley? They are the game!!!!
KATV also has Amanda Manatt as well!!
4 & 11 can't match all of that talent.
There is a business behind television. It entails making money. I don't see how they'll keep it up.
Anyone know why Robyn seems so pissed off in the mornings?
It could be because of the "flat" lighting that they have to work with.
"Flat" lighting. That just screams for a comment.
Don't know why she'd be pissed off... she's only there three hours and then she's out the door! Soon BJ will be leaving at 9am and get off the noon show.
Changes could be on the horizon for THV in the morning? Is that why Robyn seems mad?
Word is, a new weather person may be introduced
Look for more of those "infomercials" from all the stations in the future. The bills have to be paid some way and no station is going to give away free (un-sponsored) air time. Infomercials are like Sunday mornings . . . big money makers and the stations would run them in prime time if viewers would watch. Proof again that the stations run what the sponsors want to see and not the viewers.

"Limited commercial breaks" isn't even a recent "network" idea. It's an idea from the very beginning of TV news, where newscasts themselves were sponsored, and the anchors would do little "mini-commercials" throughout the cast.
Recently, the networks have picked back up on the idea (sans the overt plugs, mind you) and it looks like KARK is doing the same. Having worked with KARK, I wonder what they're going to fill all that time with, because it sure as hell won't be local news.
You have to be kidding. That's all KARK does is local news. It's just killing all of you that they came up with the best sweeps idea in years from this market.
KARK is getting conceited fast. Out of third to second in a few things and they already think they're little gods. How sad.
agreed. get giddy and conceited after you have more than one decent book (in ten years). 4 is not so much getting better as the others are getting worse.
4 is getting better AND the others are getting worse. I have heard any conceit at all from them. As a matter of fact just the opposite. They are winning and I'm not sure where the last poster works but if it's 7 or even 11 then don't be talking about conceit. What's scary is that you can't admit you're getting your butt kick therefore you won't do anything about and they will continue.
i have to admit ch4 has gotten much better even though i have a family member that works at a different station. there morning is better and i really like the weatherman on the weekend news.
The Willie Lynch ideology is messing up the news and not enjoyable no more.
All of the news is really pressing the Christian Identity doctrine out their every time.
It is time to clean house from top to bottom and get rid of all of them and put good people who want to work their to give us quality diverse news.
It's a business not a journalism workshop. Now get back to work or open your own station.
you Willie Lynch christian identity nut you have the same thinking that has messed up the buissness.
No just a business degree not a journalism degree. How does yours pay?
We just want boobs and legs !
in response to the willie lynch termed "Buissness Degree" i make more than you, ow much you make.
and the ow means that is just drop in the bucket cmpared to me.
Sure you do.
I don't know anyone at KARK who is conceited or taking anything for granted. I think that they are working hard to turn out a good product, and they realize that strong tv stations are not built overnight.
Then you must not know anyone at KARK
HURRAY for "limited advertisements!"
What a concept, imagine that, few commericals and actual NEWS. all I can say is...refreshing!
KUDOS to KARK!
What a joke... All of you at all three stations talk yourself up, especially channel 4, and act as if you will decimate the competition in ratings and the fact is you are usually wrong. Shut up and wait for the ratings to come out or you'll look like the fools at 7 who jabbered away about their superiority until the numbers came out. Shut up and go back to work...
You're the joke. Tell me a specific examplr where a KARK employee has acted with conceit.
That's funny. Someone posting at 10:54am telling someone who posted at 10:53pm to go back to work. That chip on your shoulder must be weighing heavily.
I just watched the most entertaining and informative newscast I have seen in years. There were no shootings or no fatality auto accidents reported. There was live coverage of the Little Rock School Board session (no other station had it), a very concise weather segment, a sports segment with a lot of local information (not just Razorback coverage), very few commercials, a well-lighted news set, and a crystal-clear, digital picture
Thank you Channel 32. As for Channel 22 and channel 12, you might want to take note of this novel approach to gathering and keeping viewers. I predict you will.
Read the blogs... All you read about is how Channel Four is moving up and will be number one soon. Get real... That's conceit... Easy to get your goat blowhards...
Blogging late at night....
Maybe you need a LIFE
You all work for an outdated and outmoded information source.
Can you say re-train
I don't work for KARK news and I'm saying they are lapping the restof you. The egos are across town not by the Capitol. Can't wait for you over-confident "news leaders" to fall.
Here is another "bulletin" for you non-believers.
NBC is starting non-clockhour programming. Tonight was a good example with "Earle" followed by "The Office" in prime time. Check the start times. It has been the practice in Europe for years.
This is another trend setter that the other networks, and eventually locals, will follow. Stay tuned.
Life is so full and great that blogs are left until late at night. Maybe you need a brain.
