Prepping for May Sweeps
Looks as KATV is prepping for the May Sweeps that's just around the corner. KATV debuted Monday new weather graphics and also they begun their Daybreak "Roadtrip'. The weather graphics look better and are more eye catching....especially the HUGE numbers shown on the forecasts for the next couple of days.
Anybody else notice any items of interest that the stations in LR are doing to prep for the May sweeps?

Isn't the Daybreak "Road Trip" a little like KTHV's "Amazed by Arkansas"? Since they were submerged underwater after February’s book it seems like they are breathing through a straw, sucking in already developed ideas. Come to think of it, I think I saw an orange cat roaming around their station!

KARK has also done a road trip. No original ideas.
KLRT has announced a yard sale in May sweeps as ordered by new owners. Equipment, people, and news sets. Would guess that they will partner with their "event center" in a wrasslin/yard sale, with proceeds going for employment agents for the talent.
Very few original ideas out there. But getting out and meeting the public is always a good idea.
KARK will be back to last spot next time
THV? They are planning on slaughtering a boar live on the morning show. Then? Blood orgy!
KATV? Ned and Barry finally consummate that love that's been simmering below the surface all those years. That Oprah lead in to 5 will come in super handy.
KARK? Bob surprises viewers at 10. It's Denise Whitaker as special stand-in co-anchor! Then the entire staff comes into the studio to stone her to death! Awesome!
KLRT? They manage to put on an entire show with less than 10 mistakes. A new record! Way to go guys! That'll get those ratings up.

But you generally want them to meet your anchors. They want to see your main talent not some reporter from out of town.

I just wish KATV would spend a little cash on as well as learn how to transmit a decent digital signal. Obviously they haven't figured out that Duct Tape and Bailing Wire can't fix everything. And to think they used to be the market leader in technology.

To go from leading in technology to using low end consumer televisions as h-plaz monitors is a sad thing.
Dale is not going to ask Allbritton fro any money to fix anything. He's helping them save up so they'll buy him a new boat when he retires. Which I'm guessing will come just prior to the 08 election and another endorsement.
And to think they used to be the market leader in technology.
KATV was never the market leader in technology or engineering if that's what you are calling technology. Have to look back to the days of Dan Winn, Champ Smith, and a number of other actual engineers that were employed by KARK-TV and KARK-AM-FM. Probably way before your day.
So when are they going to unveil the new Houston Nutt - Donna Bragg reality series "I'm gonna text you up!". That'll be a big hit.

As far as "roadtrip" promotions, those have been around for decades. KOTV was doing that in the 70's.
And fresh ideas? There are plenty. We just don't have many minds who are tuned in to what the public might respond to. They are capable, but cant see the forest for the trees.
None of you have any original ideas.
You just do what your told and spit vituperous comments about your competition.
You are too busy trying to put down your competition and forecast the blossoming of your station and the downfall of theirs.
Maybe you should get off this blog site and do some actual thinking about where creativity comes from and why you don't have any.
Yeah, that Hispanic segment in KATV's news programs is a real "ratings getter" for sure.
