The poor photogs, editors, and producers lucky to break $20k are quite distressed, as you can well imagine.

This is not news... I could care less where a person lives. Good for them being able to afford a nice home.

Let's face it; even though you can't live your life worrying about what people think, she does have to worry about image.

This doesn't play well among some co-workers, but it really doesn't play well among those outside of the Little Rock social circuit.

I don't too many people who respect someone who starts a full time, night-shift job six weeks before her due date, takes a few weeks off and comes right back to work that shift.

It's commonplace in the city social circle, but most people of that circle will really wonder about people who have to make so much money that it appears the child comes second.

To most of us, having a doctors income and maybe a part time job to keep you busy would be acceptable. This way, I wonder why they had the baby.

That should be "I don't know too many people..."

I'm with 10:58AM's response. Who cares? I sure the hell don't.

After the post about what house Dawn and her husband bought I think I will no longer be reading this blog. When we start attacking people for success that is when I think we've crossed the line. And we need to stop harrassing her for having a baby. Are you saying that you cannot apply for any work at all if you are having one? Should you quit life and live in a hole? She's having a baby...big deal! Her husband makes a lot of money as a doctor...big deal! Get over it.

The bigger question is: What newscast/show will she be anchoring?

At 3:01 PM, October 16, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

She will be anchoring the 5pm.

The whole show is centered around her.

Don't know how it's going to work or what the other anchors will be doing.

I don't get it. I never have nor ever will get it. I don't care to get it. Got it?

I'm referring to the fact that AR seems to make such a big deal over how much people pay for what, what they have, what they drive, how much they make and on and on. So much so even that we have a special section in the paper each Sunday to ensure we know. On top of that we have numerous little magazines as a doublecheck. Why? Who cares?

If that home fits her needs and makes her happy then great. I honestly still don't care. So many seem to be caught up in the competition of trying to keep up financinally that they've lost the meaning of family as I personally define it, barely get by each month yet put on a facade as if their lives are wonderful yet truth be told it's nothing but chaos and they wouldn't know happiness if it slapped them in the face.

A house is a home, not a museum or something to impress others with. Your home is for you, your family and your comfort. Somewhere to come home and feel at peace. A place to lay your head at night and have good dreams. A place where you go and know you're loved and where you feel comfortable and cozy. I personally would die before I'd allow my name on that list. But then that's just me.

I don't even understand this blog or the intent behind it. It makes me no difference. The only importance of any of the "dawn stuff" to me is how it affects the news. If the statement is true that the 5pm is just her then yuck. I don't see her as being such the personality to carry it. Not even close. It also bothers me that THV seems to keep things from their employees when they need to know. Things like that affect their lives, their comfort, cause needless stress(NOT suspense)and that's just the start of it. A few other things but I've typed enough.

Once again....I don't get it but am thankful I don't. I refuse to live in that world.

I don't trust this business enough to drop that kind of money on a house, expecting to be stablly employed for the duration of at least a portion of the mortgage. It's a different story if your spouse is bringing in at or more than you are and can foot the bill until you get back on your feet.

One of the many things I have learned about TV is that you CANNOT get too comfortable. You'll be jobless before you know it.

I guess I'm a rubbernecker 'cause that's what visiting this blog has come to. The posts here are reminiscent of a car wreck on the side of the road. You know it's disgusting and you shouldn't look but you can't stop yourself from slowing down to take a glance. For those same reasons, most of us look at the real estate report in the Sunday paper.

I am not in the broadcast industry but when I bought my fancy new car, I don't believe that my assistants were jealous. Hopefully it motivated them to work harder to acheive the goals that they set for themselves.

If you don't make enough money at your job, consider a career change or seek other avenues of advancement. Dawn's husband paid his dues as a medical student and intern and now he is in a position to reap the benefits of his work. I am sure that with his income, he could qualify for the mortgage if Dawn were a homemaker.

If Dawn's co-workers are upset with this, they need to grow up! So many people assume that Dawn's hiring has an impact on bonuses and raises. I don't believe that this is true. Management was searching for a new anchor and they must have budgeted for it. There are many possible reasons for this. Maybe you didn;t get a raise or a bonus because you DID NOT PERFORM at work. Take some personal responsibility. Instead of blaming Dawn for your woes at work, maybe you should be looking in a mirror!

You're more than welcome 12:56.
The roadtrip was great but it made me even moreso appreciate my stable life, having Stedman and the dogs to go home to and my own cozy little spot I call home. I'm sure for many it wouldn't be nearly enough but I love it.

Sincerely,
Oprah

aHA! I just now got it! Thank you 2:42! I was evidently hypnotized into being a rubbernecker as well and didn't even know it!

I do agree completely though. Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% what we choose to do with that 10%. If you don't like your position in life then CHANGE IT.

Thanks for observing.....

Phone home E.T. What are you trying to tell us? Her husband brought the house home? Is it a single or double wide? Dawn is having to use food stamps? If the grocery tax is stopped maybe it will help her and other "news people." How unfortunate all this is.

I heard a rumor today that Anne Jansen has told station management that she does NOT want a contract renewal after hers expires in 6 months. No word on whether THEY had intended to offer an extension.

At 10:44 AM, October 24, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If that's true, too bad. Anne is respected more than any of the other Anchors at THV or in this market for that matter. So what are they going to do November 1st? Does Larry or Mark have a clue - Yet?

At 12:34 PM, October 24, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anne Jansen? Most respected? Give me a break.

She has contributed little to ratings for THV in the century she has looked down her nose at those who serve around her at that station.

You know how anchors earn respect? They have ratings, they do news stories and they're involved in their community. I'll give Anne the nod for being involved in the community. But, as far as I know she has never been part of a newscast that's ratings leader. Management has given her almost 30 years to do it.

You can count on your hands the number of stories she has researched, written and reported in the last ten years.

How can you do that, work four hours a day, get eight weeks of vacation a year, never work holidays, earn six figures and have respect?

Is it the respect that you earn that you can get away with all that that you're talking about?

OK answer this, why do they keep throwin' money at her to stay? She is the most recognized female anchor in the market due to longevity and respect. If you are not respected by your peers, you don't last a "century" as you put it. THV would have cut her long ago if she didn't draw viewers. The only reason I watch the news on THV at 5 and 6 is because SHE's there. She is the credibility, not Andy, and not Liz. As far as I'm concerned without Anne, why watch?

As for ratings. Do you think Dawn is going to make that much of a difference? The ratings at five and 6 have always been low compared to 7 and now KARK has better numbers at 5 and 6. So what's the answer?

"OK answer this, why do they keep throwin' money at her to stay?"

I've wondered the same thing for years. Why is it that women who are total b****** are able to do that without much effort even? My theory is they learned at a young age that being that way made men so uncomfortable and even nervous they will go out of their way to keep women like her happy and not upset the applecart as it's somehow similar to having one's mother call out your full name when you know you're in trouble.

For the most part men are pleasers and don't like seeing women upset. Just their nature.

It's rather similar to why men are the way they are when they have a wife who is always giving them the business. Who wants to be made to feel they're walking on eggshells and about to be reemed out? Think about it. Men will avoid this at all cost and can you blame them? Neither sex likes that feeling but it seems to upset men more than women. Some women get off on that. It's a creepy, freaky little game if you ask me. While I don't get it I've seen enough women like this and the way they manipulate that it has made me wonder and while I'm not a psychiatrist or psychologist and do not claim to be, anyone with half a brain can find the common threads in women of this type.

Anne will be missed of course. She's a fairly good reader...well, most of the time anyway. I love watching her try to furrow her brow and be serious then the botox set in and whoopsi! With the mullet frizz job gone though the real fun is long gone. It had already gotten old having to settle for the matronly styled hair and clothes and attempted furrowed brow so oh well. Life goes on!...Will SOMEONE please tell her she's not a granny yet though!....and even if she were?! I don't mean miniskirts and hair to her waist but come on...there's this thing called "moderation."

Thanks for all the laughs over the years..uhhh...decades ..err..centuries anne! Yaaawn...time for bed!

Dear 5:42

"Respect" and scaring others with bitchiness are not one and the same.

At 12:12 AM, October 25, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The only "peers" who respect Jansen are the handful of old timers at KTHV. It's no polite to repeat what the new people at thv--those who have been there fifteen years or less--think of her or what the people at competing stations say about her.

At 12:30 AM, October 25, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

OK, 5:42, put your money where your big mouth is and tell us what show Anne Jansen has been on that has ever been above a distant #2 in the ratings?

Let's use the lead-in logic as all management in a losing station likes to do. How do you explain the years when she was anchoring the ten o'clock, CBS was kickin' in prime time, and they still were deep in the cellar?

She started anchoring in the 80's and the newscast was actually #4 in many ratings books during her tenure, or didn't even get a number.

If we use your logic of longevity equals respect, BJ Sams would be a biggest thing Arkansas Week has ever seen.

I don't want to badmouth BJ, because his appeal to me is that I'm comfortable when he's on, what you see is what he is. It's not based on whether he's a journalist because he isn't and he doesn't pretend to be. He's real.

That is not the case with your queen bee.

Anne knows how to play the political game inside the station and you have to give her credit for that. That's not the only reason she's been there a long time, but it's a big part.
