Former Little Rock Anchor Makes Debut on CNN

Former KTHV anchor T.J. Holmes debuted on CNN Saturday. Holmes is now the regular weekend morning co-anchor for CNN. Holmes joins several other former Little Rock news talents at CNN. The others include Randi Kaye and Susan Roesgen and a couple of behind the scenes people too.( I don't know their names but know that some work in the newsroom at CNN that once worked at in the Little Rock stations.)

Another great achiever from AR. Take your success along with Greg Hurst, Regina Blakeley, Asha Blake, AND FOR YOUR OL' Timers...I believe her name was Liz Walker...black female, who went to network from ch 4 in the 70s. Someone like Steele or Pitcock would remember her.

TJ is rich, and a former ARkansas Razorback walk on b-ball...He cut his news teeth in san fransisco though, and THV was berry berry good to T.J. too. Way to go T.J. Holmes. "We'll watch a little more CNN now". Love 'em or hate 'em, it proves LR is a darn good farmin' ground for pros.

-your former buds in LR...

It is good that TJ is doing good and making it on CNN and here in Arkansas it really isn't no money to be made here in this backwards reb towm.

Had the pleasure of working with TJ a few years back when he was at THV. He was a great guy and did a good job on on-air. It's no surprise to see him making it to CNN. Congrats!

"TJ is rich"

In what ways? Health-wise, great family, athletically, intellectually, emotionally? Simply searching for how that phrase is applicable is all.

Always knew we would see him make it big. A decent attitude, the GQ look, the radio voice, and a good dude too!?!? Go TJ!

I watched it, and he was a trainwreck. He's always been a trainwreck.

And to say THV always treated him well goes to show you have no idea what you are talking about. He was miserable from the time he came to THV and was looking for a way out within 2 weeks because of Captain Chaos Mark Raines. He couldn't get out because no one was dumb enough to hire him.

You're so right! CNN has no idea what they're doing, What a bunch of idiots.

Hey 11:18AM Poster:
It's really hard to believe that out of 20,000,000 sperm that you were the winner.

TJ is a class act. Congrats to him---he earned this.

Hey 5:28, how much time did you spend in a car with him driving around? How many times did you hear him whine about Mark Raines only to turn around and play best buddy with him? How many times did you bail him out because he had no idea what he was doing? He admitted that to me on many occasions. Outside of having personal experience with him, as a viewer, I don't like to have the news delivered to me like it''s coming from L.L. Cool J. There's only one reason he has gone as far as he has. A white guy with that talent doesn't get past Peoria.

Not the 5:28 poster, but I'll bite...

I spent plenty of time in a car with him. He didn't whine any more about Mark than anyone else did. I never had to "bail him out" because we worked as a team - his comments to you may have been tongue-in-cheek - scratch that, they probably went right over your head. TJ worked best with those who "got it" - you obviously didn't. Oh, and thanks for breaking out the race card - Ace.

It's the original 5:28PM poster here. I was going to respond but Larry the Cat at 11:21 PM said it better than I could.

You sound pretty angry. Maybe you should apply for a job at the post office.

You two are idiots, just because I'm right, that makes it a race issue? You both are stupid. Seriously, if T.J. was white, he wouldn't be working at CNN. Please. He wouldn't have been looked at by a San Francisco station if he wasn't a minority.

As for teamwork, how could it be considered a team when I did all of the work?

More power to him for getting a job at CNN, but I just call it how I see it, like a normal human being.

You're being naive if you don't think local television is based totally on appearance and yes, race.

People who hire judge on skin color, hair color, hair style, size of breasts, weight, color and number of teeth, etc., etc.

Hiring someone in TV based on the color of their skin is part of the business. Judging them as a person on it is another matter.

Now, as far as TJ, he's a great talent. He and the guy on CSI are twins.

His major fault was that he thought he was better in every way than anyone at THV. When he had his send-off in the newsroom over his cake and all the people who gathered to wish him well, he said he'd keep in contact with the people he liked, and they knew who they were. Everyone else, could wither and die, he implied.

Hopefully he has matured. My guess is he has.

This is for on-the-air types, I presume.

whoever ignorantly pulled the race card is a joke. cnn may have hired him b/c he's black like they did all the other 5 black on air talents compared to the 200 white talents at the network. but aren't stations into hiring for your skin color ... hence the reason why just about everybody on television is WHITE!
i'm tired of ppl pullin that race card. it's not a big deal when stations hire 10 white reporters, but OPEN THE FLOOD GATES OF HELL as soon as a black person gets hired. and hlaf the time their more talented anyway.

Somebody's just jealous that a black man made it. You want Billy Bob to be at the desk and it makes you sick that he's up there. Get over it! It's 2006 Backwoods Bill! Black people are smart, just as talented, and are just as capable or did you not notice that while you were hanging up you're "Colored Only" signs over the water fountain?

Wow... white, black, yellow or blue the guy needs some work.

I was watching him this morning and he was missing his lines, slurring his words while trying to look like he's Mr. Cool. It looked like bad local.

Time for the coaching staff to come in.

He'll do fine. He just needs to relax.

I can find 10 other white male anchors who are better and more experienced in 5 minutes, but wouldn't even get a look because they are white and that is the whole point. I'll say it If T.J. was white, he'd still be in Joplin or Peroria or wherever.

If there was an all black, all Asian, all Native American newsroom, I wouldn't care, as long as they were qualified. He is not.

Wow, some of you people are hilarious with pulling out the race card LOL. Answer this question for me though. Is race an issue at Channel 7? Because that place is very "non-minority" but no one seems to make that an issue out of that. Oh, and by the way, the "we hire black people" excuse don't cut it because I don't see blacks there represented in the anchor position besides Ms Smith. And the person that said if TJ was white, he would be somewhere in Peoria and not CNN, you got to be kidding. What ignorant bed wetting moron would say some BS like that and at the same time not understand that this field is controlled by white men (this country for that matter) and for every black hired, 300 whites are hired (not in that particular ratio) but you get the point. Enjoy the rest of your day, bigot :)

T.J. is a great anchor and is doing a great job at CNN. Come January 2011 he'll replace Anchor John Roberts at "American Morning." He'll do great!
