Some New Yorker's Not Liking Sullivan

From this thread in the TV Spy Watercooler, some New York TV viewers aren't impressed with former KATV'er Kate Sullivan so far. Sullivan left KATV a couple of months ago for WCBS in The Big Apple.

There are only 3 comments. That's hardly enough to indicate that things aren't going very well for Kate.

I am not from Little Rock and don't know anything about her... but I totally agree. Since when is TVSpy a good indicator about whether anyone is liked or not.... good grief.

Hmmm.... I thought the point of an AM show was to wake you up. Kate is not a morning show anchor. Not enough personality. A good reader, but you need more in NY or you're out on your rear. Good luck Kate, you'll need it.

What someone leaves KATV for greeener pastures only to find out they can't cut it. That would never happen....right?

Kate is going to be fine. She's solid, she's a hard worker and if she is gone by may as that lone poster is anticipating, then she'll land on her feet somewhere else and thrive.

Kate will be fine in New York or wherever she decides to work. She shouldn't ever have a problem finding a job in TV. She is a solid anchor and great reporter. She works very hard, and she has a dynamite personality.

Kate Sullivan would be huge in a market of low expectations like Little Rock. However, up against more polished and talented anchors one can see how truly mediocre she is.

Kate is okay... she might catch on and might be a dud. Who knows? She might marry some rich guy and forget the bizz.. that would be smart

Kate is substituting as the anchor at 6pm this week for WCBS. One of those nights, she is actually going solo. They have plenty of other anchors they could have asked to fill in.

She is also featured on a new ad campaign along with Katie Couric. Sounds like things are going pretty well for her.

Kate will do fine. I was in NYC during her first week on air and I think she came across quite well. Let's take into consideration that she has a much bigger 'X' on her back in the Big Apple than she ever did in Little Rock - and the fact that those who take the time to write complaints about TV anchors are generally less than 1% of total viewership - mostly those in the biz when it comes to news blogs/message boards.

Sometimes people just get lucky. Kate is the kind of person who has to grow on you. Typically, those are the ones who end up being the most well liked. I'm sure it will all work out for her in NY.

Kate Sullivan did a fine job in Little Rock. NYC is a lot tougher nut to crack, esp. in a station that has been perpetually #3 or #4 for years. WCBS isn't a station that tends to let people grow and evolve. The place has had a rotating anchor door for years; however, it will be good experience for her resume. It should be looked on by those here as more of a stepping stone, perhaps for an evening anchor job in another large market (but not New York). Anyone I know in the TV biz who has taken work there has had their agent immediately looking for the job to follow. NYC isn't the be-all, end-all TV job for everyone, but whatever it ends up being for Kate, it's a tremendous opportunity. After all, none of us in our boring little blog commentaries have a job on the air in NYC... and she does... so she's probably doing something right. (Think about it.)

It is amazing to me how everyone here can down her for getting an anchor job in NY when all of us are stuck in a small state in the south. Let's stop the bitterness and anger and just be happy that at least one person was able to move on to something bigger and better. And maybe if the rest of us would get it together and work hard and look outside of Arkansas for work just maybe we could leave this place and then everyone could talk bad about us, too. Sounds like a plan, doesn't it?

Look, the idea of bringing Kate Sullivan to the Big Apple is a suspect personnel move at best. She's overrated, but then again it's amazing that Meredith Vierra is taking over for Katie Couric. They couldn't go with anyone else? It had to be her? Can't imagine why anyone would want to watch someone so opinionated and over-confident anchor The Today Show. NBC's blunder goes to show that bad personnel moves can happen anywhere. That's how Kate Sullivan lands in NYC. It boggles this skeptic's mind. While Ms. Sullivan appears genuinely nice, it's truly annoying to see someone skate through to New York just because some t.v. execs like her. There's a lot of other people in this business who have no doubt worked harder and/or put in more years that are as qualified or more so than Kate Sullivan, but she's in New York and they're not. No matter how good of a person Kate Sullivan is, that's just pathetic. The world is all about who you know, who you can charm and what bridges you don't burn. Staid, boring old merit takes a back seat. Nice.

I wrote the 14th comment today (published just after 3:30 PM), and I am somewhat surprised and yet at the same time unsurprised by some of what followed. Anyone who has ever worked in TV news knows that these things isn't about length-of-stay on a resume... it's about the right place at the right time. All I can say is simply, "GROW UP" and realize that your day may or may not come. Just be happy for someone else's good fortune and continue working on your own. (And to the person who used the word "fleas"... seriously, get a life!)

AND... since I just wrote the last comment, if you didn't catch the intentional lapses in grammar in my original post AND in this most recent one (the one above this one), then that might have some bearing on why you're still warming your chair here in Ark.

New York city will more likely crack her nut,i saw her on TV up their and she is too arkansanized and that is waht is messing her up and that little dog need to go back to boston.

Arkansas is a drad end state that really don't won't to change and getting out of Arkansas is a good idea so that the infedels of society can start fighting each other and here in arkansas it is still a racial problem,(Michelle Rupp is a good looking Red Breasted Robin in my book.)!

Attn KARK staff it's Ricktime. The required reading for next weeks meeting with the Rickster is chapter 27 "Tomorrow Nobody Will Care How Good You Were Today"

PS KATV you might want to read up on this, too. You're the case study.

What is this business about Rick and the chapter 27 ? Is that like Carrol Merril and door #3 or is it something the Nextarites have to be polished up on? Do Tell.

Get over the fact that Kate moved on to NY and you didn't. Work hard, make some connections, maybe kiss a little butt and then you could move on to something bigger, too.

Wow. Bitter, party of one, your table is waiting....

Grow up, crybaby. Perhaps the reason you haven't gone anywhere is your attitude. Believe it or not, that actually DOES factor into a lot of decisions job-wise. Regardless of who the reporter/anchor might be or what station they work for, the fact that they have moved up in their job doesn't mean you get to whine about it. If you want to get to a bigger market, get off your butt and do it. Otherwise, keep your jealousy-tinged opinions to yourself.

Boy these comments are a grammatical tour de force of ignorance.

Hate to rain on your collective parades (or parade's you contractionally challenged dolts)but Kate is kicking butt in NYC in every objective measure:

- doing innovative feature reports
- interviewing guests live
- daily website newscasts
- pulling double duty
- anchoring solo
- co-anchoring the 6 p.m.

Kate was a ratings success in Little Rock and her reporting ran circles around most middle market reporting.

And you schmoes criticize someone who made it on talent and dedication?

Shame on you. And for those of you in the business, double shame on you. Get a better tape instead of more sour grapes.

I'm a reporter and Kate is one of the few anchors I truly admire for her abilities and skill as a journalist.

The red brested robin Michelle Rupp must have wrote these comments and as they say short haired women are the most outspoken.

Sounded like Renee Shapiro; but she's not really a reporter.

It does sorta sound like Renee, but regardless of who it is, I agree completely! Kate is wicked awesome and deserves the best!

Wow! I been reading many of these comments left here and no one mentioned how beautiful she is. She has one of the freshest faces reporting the news in NYC. I try to watch her daily. She also comes across as very professional. There are many news broadcasts here in the city,nbc,cbs,abc,wor,cwc,pbs13&21 and that's not including cable, most of them start news programming at 5:oo pm till 7pm;They change reporters usually every 1/2 hour. These broadcasts are for the tri-state area, over 20 MILLION people; There someone to watch for every ones fancy. Many of them I would bet enjoy watching getting the news from her.

Kate is fine on air, but I'd be interested in knowing what was going on behind the scenes this morning (11/29/06) when she was doing the last newsbreak before 9am. Her voice was breaking. She was clearly struggling to get through the copy and sounded close to tears. When she appeared on camera at the end, she was smiling but there were tears in her eyes.
