Sams Signs Three Year Deal with 11
This from Wednesday's Paper Trials column in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette: "Longtime TV news anchorman B.J. Sams continues his run on local TV; he’s just signed a new three-year contract with KTHV, Channel 11. " According to his bio KTHV.com, Sams has been in broadcasting more than 50 years and at KTHV since 1982.

BJ Sams is solid as a rock. . . i love that he knew Win Noble was crazy 2 years before his girl found out.
BJ For GOV.
Bobbie Miller made her debut on KFOR at 6 pm tonight. Did some lame story on a man having no air conditioning. Sort of sucked.
Sweet!!! Bobbie Miller? is that BJ's lady friend?
You've just gotta love BJ. Here's to your continued success and many happy days ahead for you. It's all well deserved.
At least THV is smart enough to keep the 3 in the morning together as long as they can.
B.J. will step on anyone to raise himself a little higher.
Give me a break... B.J. is a 72-year old man and a veteran of the business. Who would he have to step on to get where?
Maroon.
Ditto above. Maybe the "Moron" isn't good enough work in the business and is jealous that a 72 year old man can whip his A** any day of the week. BJ has more credibility as a human being than you do! There must be a reason that he was asked to sign on for 3 more years - could it be because people like him?
You bet folks like him. To be 72 years old in a local market and just sign a 3 year contract extension is pretty impressive.
The morning show on 11 is so much more impressive than their evening news. I find it odd that there is such a huge difference between the two. The evening is so boring, who's calling the shots over there? Yes, they were smart and lucky to keep BJ for another 3 years.
I heard the person who put BJ, Robyn and Tom together left and didn't have anything to do with who is on at night now. You can tell. It's a totally different dynamic.
This isn't goung to turn into another thing about that weird producer, is it?
I watch the morning show on 11. Their following seems to be huge. I've been so impressed by the turn out in their summer cereal drive thing. People from all over are coming out of the woodwork to deliver cereal. Heck, I even contributed at my office.
"This isn't goung to turn into another thing about that weird producer, is it?"
What weird producer? Tell us more!
Speaking of weird, what about Liz? She kinda got a little out of control on that competing thing. It was only cereal.
The whole point was to bring in as much cereal as possible for the Food Bank Network. It seemed more personal to her to beat the AM crew, at least that's what I caught on the five o'clock news. She did have passion, it may have been misplaced a little. In all to bring in 144,000 boxes was incredible!
Maybe Liz was determined to win out of some sort of insecurity. She came across as it is more important to beat them than it was about the kids getting the cereal. If that's not the case, she needs to be coached about how she comes across on the air, because it was pretty bad. The important thing here is the amount that was raised. I gave some at work also.
Oh please.. who cares what the motivations were. KIDS ARE EATING. I wish people would get a little more "out of control" for things like this. There is one evening anchor who is getting credit for being part of the drive and this person didn't lift a finger and just criticised as usual.
By the way, morning shows are traditionally a lot more "fun" and entertaining than evenings. Morning shows are more entertainment than they are hard news. Let's face it, most of the morning show stories are a regurgitation of the night before. Most times, word for word.
People like a constant in the morning. B.J. gives them that constant. A trusted figure who when he says something, you can take it to the bank. A consultant type told me one time that just after waking up, you want to be reassured that the world didn't end while you were sleeping and that things will be o.k. Those 3 really work off each other well. Tom is the sometimes naughty boy who breaks in line at the cafeteria, B.J. is the father who is there to keep Tom from messing up too much and Robyn is the girl next door who isn't quite as inmature as Tom, but isn't as authoritarian as B.J. It really works well. And I agree with an earlier post that KTHV misses Dawn Scott.
I don't think it's word for word. But what in the world happens overnight in Arkansas that should make the news? I just like the fact that they don't put a bunch of crappy stories from other plaaces that don't relate to us on there and instead BJ Robin and Tom talk to us and tell us stuff. Even if it's by a weird producer.
I care about people's motives. I think most people who have any character about them do care about motives. Wrong motives show lack of character and the right motives show what you are truly made of.
All I know is that KTHV has a good morning show.. while they're blowing over at KATV.
HA! If you used your own yardstick to measure character, I guess you wouldn't be on an annonymous board dissing someone...
I didn't diss anybody on this bored, FYI. I just said I do care about people's motives. HA.
This is supposed to be about BJ Sams signing a 3 year contract, not about the insecurties of another anchor, or whatever.
Did someone tell Liz that the cereal was for the kids and not for her and Andy during the commercial breaks at 10pm.
Long Live B.J., Tom and Robin!!
Robin is beautiful& real and not like some of the air-head chicks on other channels!! You Go Girl!! B.J. has it together and Tom is like my favorite Winnie character-Tiger!!
Liz is a cutie and did a fine job for the cereal drive. Craig is funny and does a good job with his other alias characters. Ann is very much a professional and pretty!! So Kudos to the TV 11 real folks. Leeann Springer
