KNOE/Monroe, LA ND to KTAL

According to a tipster, Andrew Pontz, news director at KNOE in Monroe, LA is moving to KTAL, News Channel 6 as news director. The tipster says, "Pontz announced to KNOE he's leaving at Thanksgiving..." Pontz replaces Sean Kennedy who is off to to become assistant ND at McGraw Hill's KGTV-10-ABC in San Diego.

Additional: Another tipster adds this : "Former KTBS News Director Andrew Pontz, who worked in Shreveport for decades, is returning to the market - to KTAL. If memory serves me right, Pontz was fired by KTBS owner Edwin Wray after buying a second satellite truck in the early 90's. Pontz went to Bryan/College Station and is now at Monroe at CBS powerhouse KNOE. I don't believe either KTAL or KNOE has announced this."

Why does buying a second satellite truck get you fired? He worked there before and left because of a truck?

KNOE is not the Nexstar station in Monroe/El Dorado. It's owned by the Noe family.

Andrew Pontz is one of the nicest/funniest REAL people to work with. Ktal lucked out if you ask me. KNOE is #1 big time all due to good hires by pontz.

KNOE is not part of the Nex$tar cartel....its KARD (fox), and KTVE (NBC) has a LMA with Nex$tar. Sort of like the Mission Broadcasting agreement.

I first met him while I interned at KTBS, a summer internship that happened because Andrew gave an unknown, ambitious kid a chance to do so. I went on to college, during which I worked at KNOE, and then moved to Shreveport where I landed a job working as a TV reporter for Mr. Pontz at KTBS. His departure from there was merely the first of a mass exodus of employees in the late 90s. (I was one of them. It wasn't the same without him and his leadership.) Although I've moved on, I must agree with the earlier poster; Pontz is one of the nicest people you could ever work with. I'll always be grateful to him for his help and guidance while we worked together.
