Rememberin' the Good Ol Days

Not sure how long these videos have been up at KATV.com BUT I am glad I found them. Channel 7 has on its website a number of vintage news reports. They are awesome! They feature all the anchors/reporters that made KATV great. I am hoping KATV will up the ante and add more. You'll find the videos HERE.

This is absolutely awesome. I forgot how fantastic Tom Ryan, Susanne Winn, Gina Kurre, and more were. They are so fantastic and wonderful. I loved the graphics which were so colorful and made the news very bright.

The Concord Special Edition was so funny. The graphics of the 70s were hillarious. However, seeing even their coverage then, we know why KATV has managed to remain #1 for so long. They used to be the best thing in the market.

I agree, and their graphics are still hillarious today!

This is great, but what about TODAY'S video clips?

KATV seriously needs to spend more time with current eVideo before working with the past.

Maybe 7 can use their archives to teach its current talent how things should be done to earn the top spot.

KATV riding the wave of the past into decling ratings of the future.

Okay KATV we all get it. You were once great.!!!!! Probably one of the best shops in the country. But you got too full of yourself and started playing golf three days a week instead of working harder to stay on top. Now you're showing signs of weakness and you don't know how to react.

You take everything as a personal attack. You critize everybody else in the market istead of evolving and making your product better. And one thing Darwin has taught us if you don't evolve you'll get eaten by the ones that do.

KATV has gotten a little lazy.

Channel 7 is showing its best by showing its past. It's just not the same anymore. It is falling from grace. Apparently people do matter. Too bad they run off the good ones.

So she helped in slide? She wasn't that good? Who even knows what became of her?

Kate is bound to leave soon... she'll get a better offer.

As one who watches this blog and is not in "the business," I concur with the above comment. Kate Sullivan is the best thing to happen to KATV in a few years. Seven had potential to build something around she and Scott Inman, but apparrently thought the other gal, Munoz?, was the ticket. A mistake in my book, I don't see her having the Gina Kurre or Karen Fuller popularity. Kate could however. We'll see.

I predict Kate gets a better offer from somewhere bigger and leaves Little Rock before it's over. Kind of like that girl KTHV had on the weekend a couple of years ago. She was better than just about anyone else in the newsroom (excepting maybe Dawn Scott). Anyway, seems like this gal landed with another Gannett station in Orlando or somewhere like that? What was her name?

Get rid of DAle Nickerson!

Kate is good but I think it was also a good idea to keep Christina as well. If giving her the 10:00 spot was what it took then that was the right move. Christina has already become probably the best anchor in the market and a great asset to KATV. They have the best weekday anchor team by far. All three; Kate, Scott and Christina could easily move on to better markets. Thankfully they seem to want to stick around a while.

You either work at seven, just graduated or have a crush on her (proabably all three). That's the silliest thing I've heard in months!

You certainly write like work there!

The problem with KATV is they have too many reporters that want to be stars. Not too many people with big heads can fit into one building. KATV hires the young/inexperienced reporters so they can pay Paul and Ned thier six figure salaries. The newsroom therefore suffers because of it.

In its usual polotical correctness, KGOP forgets the people who brought them to the top. Andy Pearson and Susan Roesgen were the ones who led them to beat KARK to become dominant. Perme and Eels didn't do it until they came and Gina Kurre had it handed to her on a silver platter because she knew how to c*ck-tease the news directors she worked for. Journalistically, she had less talent than Joan Early.

There's also David Davis, Debra Mathis, Regina Blakley, Lorie Johnson, and the short, mousy-faced woman whose name I can't remember. Blakely was, at the time, the only reporter that CBS ever hired who was not from a top ten city or an owned an operated station.

There are many people who contributed, but it was Pearson and Roesgen who started it for KATV in 1987.

Are you thinking of Kelly Minton? Also, does anyone know whatever happened to her, David Davis and Lorie Johnson?

Kelly Minton married a doctor (the goal of many if not most if not all LR anchorwomen) in Lexington, KY.

She is mousy-faced, but I think he's thinking of Betsey Pilgrim.

No, No, No. Kelly Minton was the good-looking brunette. I believe she was on in the mid-80s. I saw her anchoring in Kansas City, then Louisville after that. She was interviewed at Paul Eels funeral and is still REALLY good-looking. I thought she was better than all the others combined. Wish she'd come back.
