Moore Named Sportscaster of the Year

KLRT/Channel 16/Little Rock Sports Director Wes Moore has been named Arkansas Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association’s Hall of Fame.

"When you look at the names of the past winners, it reads like an All Star list of Arkansas sportscasters," said Moore of the honor.  "It really is humbling to be mentioned with guys like Paul Eells, Jim Elder, and Bud Campbell.  This only drives me to try to live up to the lofty standards they set for Arkansas sportscasters."

"This honor is well deserved," said Fox16 News Director Austin Kellerman.  "Wess has worked extremely hard to provide new depth to high school football coverage on television across the state.  He's just getting started."

He certainly does the best job for high school football coverage.

I guess knowing the names of every PA player and not one name of the opponent makes him qualified.

First of all, Steve Sullivan IS be the best sportscaster in Arkansas...period. You don't need an award to know that. Wess will claim this honor and shout it to the high heavens that he's the best, but only in his own mind. Anyone with a brain knows that this is a farce. Moore couldn't hold the jockstrap for Sully, Bo or Mike Irwin. Hell, Bobby Swofford is a lot more entertaining than Wess! Let him revel in his own success, because he'll never be the best. Just folks on this message board who THINKS he's great and continues to inflate, his already OVER INFLATED ego.

Ah, so the folks at KATV are butt hurt over this. I think it's sully that has the big head.

Best job or high school football coverage?
Puh-leeze ... He must have learned his skills at a meat store because he butchered the Class 7A state football championship. He and his partner didn't know the players, called Springdale Har-Ber "Bentonville" three times during the telecast, and his grandest faux pas — with him saying "And we're tied at 14-7."

At 11:53 AM, January 13, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So, because he covers HS football, or HS sports in general, he gets an award? I have never understood why any of the news channels waste airspace on HS sports. Aside from the parents of the players who can say "that's my child on TV", who the heck cares?

His coverage of high school football is far more complete than Sully's ever was. Channel 7 just shoots a few games and has one game of the week with a reporter. That's nothing compared to what Wes's team does.

Local news/sports/weather should focus on LOCAL stories/games. Viewers can get national coverage so many other places. Lots of jealous folks here.

Mike Irwin is garbage & just about anybody in this state is better than that lifeless, emotionless, grouchy old man. he looks like he genuinely hates his job

Comes across as having zero personality. Who pays him?

Please Ed Buckner stop taking off during the week, your fill in is an idiot.

1:17PM Having some local coverage is one thing. Leading off the broadcast with a story about a fire in a trailer park versus a lunatic in NK lighting off another nuke is quite another. (this is just an example to illustrate the types of things local newscasts do, not necessarily an actual recent broadcast).

I have heard complaints about the National Championship game being on ESPN because "so many" people in AR don't get ESPN, they just get the local/free channels. This is all the more reason national and world news should LEAD the broadcasts, not be buried into a 90 second segment after the first commercial break.

At 2:25 AM, January 15, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

9:30AM It's all about money if you don't have ESPN likely you're not going to buy from the ads. Do you know how many people call and complain about not getting the channels and how they have to move the clothes hangers on the TV to get our channel? Keep it local because chances are they probably never ventured out of the small town that they live in to Come to Little Rock. The people you heard complaints from are probably the same people we've interviewed that complain about Obama and how much they hate Obama care, but tell us they signed up for affordable care and how they need it for their families. Seems people here are brainwashed to only care about Razorbacks, even though they don't care about fans maybe the last few years they play I Little Rock.

Channel 7's high school coverage is a joke compared to 16's. It's no wonder Wes won.

2:25am I agree, most of those folks with the "clothes hangers" on their TV have probably never left their little Podunk town. All the more reason to expand their horizons and expose them to what is happening in the rest of the world.

My wife and I always laugh and are a bit ashamed because when the local stations interview locals for stories, they always seem to find the fattest person with one tooth they can find. Most of what they say makes no sense. My guess is that if you asked them about the civil war in Syria, the response would be "Syria? How you spell dat? Is that dat little town over in Crawford county?".

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

THv has all but given up on sports coverage. At least the science with sarah segment is gone, dumbleavy and dimwit is painful to watch.

Bo Mattingly is and has been the best sportscaster in Arkansas for many years. You remember Sports Final?? Bring that show back! I don't know who Wess Moore is? NWA and FS is the only part of Arkansas that really factors anymore. Wess with extra S interesting spelling. Bo Mattingly #1

At 1:40 PM, January 18, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, no wonder he won. Look at the competition.

At 9:50 PM, January 18, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bo Mattingly? Are you serious?
He's nothing more than a Razorback cheerleader, and all he's missing is the short skirt!
He could also play as a stunt double on "The Simpsons" because he's such a Homer!

Sully couldn't even get through the landers award last night without screwing it up. The first package froze and he had a horrible deer in the headlights look when it came back on him. You'd think he'd have been a little more prepared and made sure his packages weren't messed up.

I've been following not only this blog, but others on this site and I find it sad that there are so many negative and disparaging comments that are constantly made by a "very few" individuals. They are forever looking for an opportunity to run down a persons appearance, mistakes they might have made or to just criticize a person or that individuals profession. They are rude, crude, and crass. I suppose when you can make derogatory comments about a person or how that individual goes about doing their job, which you haven't got a clue about doing, then are able slither and hide behind the cloak of anonymity it must give you a sense of power. Its a very sad and shallow individual who gets their enjoyment by looking for the faults or mistakes in others. Hope you enjoy this great day and stay warm.

If they suck, they suck nothing anyone can do or say to make them better. At the end of the day its the viewers that have to see and listen to some of these idiots so its a viewers right to complain when the product that is put out there and in our homes is below standard. Where is it written that people cannot complain about the service they get? Thats why so many businesses fail today, poor customer service, poor attitudes, poor products etc. Everyone in LR knows the news stations that we have today are pathetic. Do you wanna watch crap ch a,b,c or d for local news? If people don't let their voices be heard then things never get better. Sheeple.

At 3:43 AM, January 20, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, the product at every station is horrible. All the people pointing fingers at the competition or their own co-workers are right. There are few who are any good at their jobs. It's their fault they are terrible, but it's also the station's fault for hiring them and the standard being so low. You want less rude comments? Don't give them anything to criticize. Do better and stop accepting terrible performances.

Surprised no one has mentioned the morning EP at KATV getting canned.

The pay is shit in the LR market. You're not going to have the best. You get what you pay for.

At 11:40 PM, January 20, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have noticed that the katv morning since September has really fallen off to the deep end and has become rather boring nothing stands out like the once dominant morning show had for the last five years.

At 12:22 AM, January 21, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry, Sully, but this composition you obviously wrote won't hold water. You might be a good sportscaster if you'd ever learn to quit waving your arms around like a duck on meth.

At 12:52 AM, January 21, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

A good start in cutting costs to leave more money for others would be to have 2 mets only, one for the week and one for the weekend. No station need 3, 4, 5 mets, thats just overkill. Only need 2 anchors as well, 1 for the week and one for ghe weekend hell just nake the weekend anchor a met too and do away with the weekend met. Thats a lot of money saved right there.

Next time I will put my glasses on before I type, agggghh.

Why was the EP at 7 canned?

At 10:07 AM, January 21, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@11:40 - it's just as dominant as it ever was. They're just responding to what focus groups have told them they want in a morning show.

At 10:39 AM, January 21, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

As it ever was? Like back when it wasn't dominant at all?

At 10:41 AM, January 21, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am surprised/sorry to hear the EP was let go. Hasn't he been there for a really long time?

The savings from cutting employees never gets spread around to everyone who survives the cuts. That money usually gives someone a nice bonus at the end of the year for hitting a financial target.

All you'd gain is more work for the same amount of pay.

Should have known it would snow a lot more than the idiot fortner said it would in my area. Dusting she said, she needs to dust that pea brain off. Why does 11 continue to let her cover any kind of weather unless its sunny and clear?

At 11:58 PM, January 21, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, she cannot even manage that.

At 1:07 AM, January 22, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

THV also dropped the ball being at an empty Kroger store on Cantrell reporting on the storm instead of concentrating on what the weather would do. While Dawn was reporting from inside the store which looked empty, I saw 2 people, a woman walked by after checking out and covered her face with her coat ha ha priceless! Thanks for taking off tonight Ed. FAIL

Ned missed it by a mile. Todd change his mind so many times that he couldn't be wrong. 4 will have my viewership exclusively when weather is bad in the future.

Lol yep most of them messed it up big time.

At 4:12 PM, January 22, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Heard on THV by an on-the-street reporter.

"The snow is melting really fastly."

Come on, you have to be kidding me. Have these reporters taken English 101 in college? Is a college degree required to be a reporter?

Also heard on THV:

"I will be gawking at the radar."

Now that's original.

Ed, where art thou?

At 9:59 PM, January 23, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lol at all those comments about the snow coverage. Careful, some people on here feel you should not complain about the local news, it's mean. Pffft

At 7:23 PM, January 24, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Only reason high school coverage is better is time and resources. Two stations that combine resources for big events. They have huge advantage but it doesn't translate to better ratings.

At 8:35 PM, January 24, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

All that combining means nothing if you can't get it on the air. Most stations' reporters don't stay with the station long enough to gain a regular audience. They come, and they go from station to station looking for a place to stay until they are old enough to retire. But, alas, for most that place is never found.

Maybe our resident shrink (who works out with all the LR news celebrities at the gym) will know who had the most accurate forecast.

At 10:36 PM, January 26, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

12:58, I would tell you who had that forecast_ but you lied by using hyperbole with the all the LR news celebrities references. I would expect you to troll. Miserable people make miserable comments.

At 9:02 AM, January 27, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thanks for your expert opinion. I thought you were the miserable one, as you bring your dead mother from 30 years ago into every conversation. Now get back to stalking your LR news celebrities at the gym or the River Trail. Or enlighten us yet again of your extensive work with battered women. What a ray of sunshine you are.

Troll, at least I don't have to cowardly lie about people. You're too stupid to say anything constructive. I don't need to say anything else except its interesting to see a baby like you implode because they don't have the courage to accept responsibility for their actions so they blame others. Are you going to cry and post another racist post like last month?

At 4:38 AM, January 30, 2016, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Fuck you cunt. I took responsibility last month for the tit joke, if you bothered to read it. It's obvious you run your mouth more than listen to others. Keep playing the victim, like niggers do.

Maybe you can get a street name or the River Trail changed to one of your idols. You could stare at the sign & finger yourself to that autographed glossy Natalie photo from Mayflower.
