Attention "Producers/Producerettes" at KARK. The town is Waldron, not Waldon. Was aired twice and not corrected. Tisk, tisk.

I think there is a Waldon in Texas.

This is at least the second Nexstar employee that has landed in Atlanta. Mike Francis went there when Nexstar wasn't keen on keeping him. Now Shane Deitert is going after getting laid off by Nexstar. It's getting embarrassing for them. That Francis-to-ATL business was a huge comeuppance.

Remember KARK tried to have Mike Francis do the evening weathercast but he was not popular there. After they figured out how unpopular Mike was with evening viewers they brought Brett Cummins back.

But I agree Nexstar's newscast do leave much to be desired.

The most stupid thing I ever saw a weather guesser do was when they televised him standing in that rain Buck Rogers goggles on to show us what it looked like standing in the rain with the wind blowing on you. That was almost as stupid as storm chasing which he never did.

Seems to "bounce around" a lot. Wait, that is normal for most broadcast personalities.

At 12:39 PM, June 08, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Spot on 10:08 AM. Broadcasting is the only field you can bounce from job to job like that. In the real world HR directors would consider a person with a resume like Shane's to be a unstable flake who is unable to stay in the same job for more then two years, and is not a good candidate for long term employment.

Shane still actively works for KLRT and KARK. He came back a month or so ago. This is a great move for him!

Sad to say, the end work of this bouncing around will lead to no retirement unless the person has enough sense to start putting money away on their own for the future. Most are only concerned with getting to be seen and heard on the air, now. If you are in doubt, ask about your company's retirement plan. Then, get out of broadcasting while you are young.

I'm sure he is, but 12:39 brings up an interesting point. This is the only field you can advance by being a short term employee.

Good luck to Shane, he is a nice person.

I want to thank you all for the nice comments. It's hard for me to leave Arkansas because its home.

Yes, I did jump around early in my career but I learned a lot from some wonderful people. If you want to learn the business you need to work in other markets.

I have spent almost 8 years at KLRT.It will be hard to walk away

Thanks
Shane Deitert

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. You have 11 more steps to go.

Just kidding! Good luck Shane, you'll be very happy in Atlanta. Traffic's a major pain, but there are tons of things to do there.

12:39 Change would to should and you have hit the nail on the head.

Wondering who wrote the "announcement." I'm guessing the same person who posted at 11:17. Don't worry Shane you won't miss Arkansas for long, but given CNN's recent on air broadcasts of incorrect information, who knows maybe you'll fit in.

I am a disappointed and, now, former local TV news viewer. KATV has been my station of choice for the last couple of years. But after last night's 6:00 newscast, I am no longer a consumer of local TV news. KATV's lead story at 6:00 was about cars being broken in to at an apartment complex in Conway. A whopping $2,000 in total damage. I would bet that it barely got a mention in the Conway newspaper, yet here is a statewide TV station wasting my valuable time with such a lame story. Then they follow that up with news of two candidates for Lt. Gov. Unless I missed it they didn't bother sharing with me the party affiliation of either candidate, and they were too lazy to interview them. They just quoted what they said from press releases. I'm done. I can get my local news information from other on-line sources and use my valuable time on something more productive. For you folks who work in TV news - take notice: It's not just emerging alternative media that is costing you audience, it is also your lack of performance, experience and delivery.

Thanks for the many good years of providing a quality news product in this market but, sadly, those days are gone and this one-time viewer is headed for other sources for news.

At 6:55 PM, June 12, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

4:00 I agree with you but the bottom line is all four of the stations had weak leads that day. It's just how it is sometimes in the summer. Good luck and I hope you don't really stop watching local news (I don't care which one you watch) because of one really slow day.

At 7:07 PM, June 12, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I actually can understand leading with a string of car break-ins (even though it is weak lead). But choosing to do a long story on the Lt. Governor's race is lame. And choosing not to interview them is a lazy decision made by a lazy journalist.

At 4:26 AM, June 13, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Shane, never look back. Doesn't matter how long you have worked at any station...you persevered and I hope CNN is a good fit...as they are going to make a strong comeback from slumping ratings. As a former FOX 16 employee...up until 09' I saw first hand your abilities. M

At 10:48 AM, June 13, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's a bit much there morning shift. CNN is not "going to make a strong comeback." They are truly horrible.

At 9:38 PM, June 13, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

7:07 I'm not defending the decision to run the story but KATV and KARK had interviews with both lt gov candidates in 5 and 6. THV had the guy but not the woman. It may be a lame story on a slow news day but it was fair reporting by those two stations at least

At 6:39 AM, June 14, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yep, CNN will make a strong recovery, not in the traditional way, but they will regain ratings after dumping Mr. Morgan and other unpopular programs, they have no choice after Cooper goes to NBC morning. CNN will be forced to excite an audience like never before....and they will do it well.

At 1:32 PM, June 14, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, right. They can start by doing some basic fact checking before they report something as fact.

At 6:06 AM, June 15, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

...yet here is a statewide TV station wasting my valuable time with such a lame story.

Well first off it may be a lame story to lead with. I live in a different part of Arkansas and don't pick up the Little Rock tv stations.

Secondly...these stations in central Arkansas are not statewide. We don't pic them up in western Arkansas nor do we pick them up in eastern Arkansas. Let's see why....Jonesboro has TV stations...Memphis covers a portion of easter Arkansas events...western Arkansas has its own market which is Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville, and Fort Smith...Texarkana has its own which is also covered by Shreveport and Eldorado.

There is a big misconception in Little Rock, especially when there is a weather alert for, lets say Northeastern Arkansas, the local tv stations do their own cut ins and weather reports...they don't use any tv stations from Little Rock to do the cut ins.

This is kind of disturbing to me because every tv station in Little Rock puts up a state map with radar to give you the
appearance that they are on the ball covering weather from all corners in Arkansas, yet there are at least three other tv markets in or around Arkansas.

Sure flame away...I've heard it all before such as "well if you are going to be traveling in that area." Bull Skittles...by the time you get to that area, 1 1/2 to 3 hours, the storms will likely be gone. "You have loved ones in that particular area"...once again... Bull Skittles. If there is a tornado warning in Fayetteville, why don't we see constant cutins from KATV, KTHV, and KARK? program interruptions for the so-called-statewide coverage of the Fayetteville town.

Like I said flame away...

@6:06
Point well taken, but here are a few clarifications.

1.The LR stations do cover part, but not all, of Eastern Arkansas.

2. The Eldorado area is covered entirely by the Monroe LA stations.

3. The Texarkana area is covered entirely by the Shreveport LA stations. KTAL, which is actually a Texas station because they are licensed out of Texarkana Texas, has been run from the studio in Shreveport since 1962.

For the most accurate and up-to-date weather reporting, go to the National Weather Service website. You won't have to watch some prima donna, wanna-be actor on TV. Plus you don't have to wait until 5, 6 or 10pm to find out what the weather is going to be like. No guessing, it's weather from the pros.

Never have figured out the Republican geniuses that are against the death penalty, but say they want less government. No death penalty means more prisons have to be built and more employees & operations costs on the government tit. We can't get rid of the trash that's already in there, so the problem just gets worse with time.

Of course this is coming from the same morons who talk personal freedoms & less government intrusion - but want to ban all abortions. They want nothing to do with the children once they are born until they turn 18 & can go to war.

What say you, O'Reilly-rooter?

Oh, and about "O" Reilly , he is not a conservative. Just like O bummer is not a Christian.
Have fun while you can morons.

I agree about anyone calling themselves Republican and not being for the death penalty. The majority of them are for it. It is kind of like the democrats being for radical Islam even though the Muslims would impose severe limits on your freedoms and execute gays. Go figure right? Or how about the socialist party's endorsement of the democrat party and of the occupy movement. Got some nifty friends on you side I would say. The democrats and more specifically the radical left that has hijacked the democrats , are feeding you all a shit sandwich and you asked for seconds. Wake up or witness the downfall.
