Ratings...or the Lack Thereof...

Just to set the record straight the reason I have not posted the ratings is because well I don't have the information.  Arkansas Business.com usually has them but they have not posted a story about it either.  So there it is....

Does it really matter... Old news. Everyone already knows KATV swept the ratings. I guess you'll have to buy a subscription to Neilsen like the other stations if YOU want to know.

Thanks for letting us know. It's odd that Arkansas Business has not reported on the ratings. I'm hearing KARK/KLRT have slid to 3 and 4. No surprise there.

Lets see, AB and THV are in bed. Do they want to report bad news on their own product? Think about it.

It was a dismal book for fox and 4.But don't tell em. They don't know because they are too cheap to subscribe to Nielsen.

Let's be honest: the book was fine for everyone -- about where it's all been for the last couple years. No major headlines to report.

Fine for everyone? Really, that's the spin you're going with?

I looked as well and not much change.

The fact that the ratings haven't changed is news in and of itself.

Are 7 and 4/16 going to keep looking the other way when it comes to Alyson and Wes? Are they both so in the dark about what's going on that it doesn't matter? I wish them both the best, but it's hard to figure that out.

Figure what out?

I agree it can't continue.

Short answer: The corporate titans don't care. They don't care about ratings, quality, the public's right to know, etc. They make their money cutting expenses and they will continue this course until there's nothing left.

Alyson and Wes are kidding themselves if they think this can last. Now Wes is in the binds of two sports operations. Alyson seems to get all the razorback assignments at her station. I know it's just sports but 7 hangs their hat on razorback sports. Is this all a play to get Alyson to cross the street again? She did it once. What's to stop her?

She would be crazy to go to FoxPeacock.

No one wants to go to FoxPeacock. Most of the folks who survived the merger are scrambling to get out and they lost five newsroom staffers less than two months after the layoffs.

Eh she works 4 hours a day. Why would anyone give that up?

At 11:59 AM, April 09, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well I don't know if 4/16 works anchors any harder, but she could negotiate the same type of deal where she doesn't have to do anything.

Yeah some 7 staffer can't fathom why anyone would want to work anywhere else. Well guess what? Being #1 doesn't matter that much. It only matters to sales people who use it to sell. (And there are other more effective ways of doing that btw). Family and paychecks are what matter.

Speaking of sales, she's got a great selling point of her own. #1 news show in the morning gives her a lot of leverage when negotiating that 3-4 hour work day.

If ratings don't matter to anyone but sales people then why would she have a negotiating tool by being number 1. And btw, being number 1 is not what makes working here so great. This newsroom is a very fun and enjoyable place to be. With some of the stories I've heard from the other stations about the bickering and backstabbing I'm so glad I ended up here. Don't get me wrong, every place has their bad apples but for the most part everyone here gets along and actually wish the best for each other. The same can not be said at other places and I believe it shows in the product put on air.

One more point. The only people who say ratings don't matter in this business are the ones who consistently lose in them.
