KTAL Anchor Fired??????

I have received several emails stating, Michelle White Lefitte fired from KTAL.  Investigating this I have found her facebook page states she will be consolidating her facebook pages soon.. and she wasn't anchoring the news this evening and wasn't even mentioned as being on vacation or anything. Hmmmmmmmmm.....

UPDATE:  TvSpy reports Lefitte has resigned her position at KTAL/Channel 6/Shreveport.  KTAL GM tells TV Spy, “We appreciate the fine work she has done for us the past three years as well as her respected career in the Shreveport-Bossier-Texarkana television market. We wish her and her family all the best in the future.”

Saw a KTAL Christmas Station Image Promo... saw everybody else but no Michelle. Not that that's proof but it is telling, don't you think?

Well, i guess if KMSS ever decides to start to doing their nine o clock newscasts from the Jewella Avenue studios instead of contracting it out to an east Texas affiliate, Mee Shell might get another shot at it , otherwise she's probably S.O.L for ever working in this market again. I imagine they were partying like like it was 1986 over on N. Market when it was announced that Mee Shell was gone. Especially LaFave. I think he had been pushing for that for some time. im guessing there was a distinct dislike of her over there in north highland.

ComCorp will never spend the money to have a live local newscast. And even if they did they would not take Michelle. I would be surprised if Ivan Smith will take her back.

I think we have to give props to K-TAL here. This new regime is working very hard to finally make ther news department a ligitimate, viable face in this market and if they did indeed fire Mee Shell, that to me is an indication of them finally having a ND with some guts and intelligence to do the right thing in the best interest of the station.

At 1:33 PM, December 14, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It also helps that KTAL does not have a GM who constantly overrules the ND at every turn, like it was when I worked there. The improvements look great, but still need to work on the live shots, and the named supers.

The ND at KTAL is a no-nonsense guy and this definitely ain't his first rodeo.

ComCorp has been trying to sell that place for years. If you thought KTAL was bad before Nexstar, you should talk to people who used to work at KMSS. It's a blackhole of a workplace, sucks all energy & light out of you.

“Michelle White Lafitte has resigned her position at KTAL-TV,” KTAL vice president and general manager Mark McKay told TVSpy."

Here's a thought.....Mee Shell to KTBS to anchor weekends with Bob Griffin, bet that will do wonders for the ratings. (just being a bit sarcastic) That would be an insult to Bob, whos a true tv legend in this town.

Oh Bob will work with anyone who lets him in the building.

This is a much needed and long overdue change. It's amazing how different the management styles are between new Mark and old Mark.

At 1:45 PM, December 16, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

A lot of GMs these days spend more time avoiding making decisions and let things run their course for good or bad. It's only until corporate sees things affecting revenues that things happen. Pure and simple.
That's why all these changes at KTAL have taken place over the past year. The property needed a boost in terms of signal quality and on-air presence to get an uptick in ratings. Don't be surprised if they wind up selling the station in a year or two, they've been acquiring other properties in stronger markets.

At 9:37 AM, December 17, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That would not be a surprise if they sold the station. KTAL used to be one of Nexstar's best ad rev producers, but that was when three and four GM's ago. Nexstar/Mission is so over leveraged they need large amounts of cash to service their debt. It's crazy.

Michelle, and all the other long time employees who have left the building, will find life is much better post KTAL.

Michelle always seemed to be kind of bored doing the news - like she was talking down to the audience.

No loss.

Ten bucks KTBS tries to hire Michelle for weekend or 9pm anchor to show they have a black anchor. Too little too late if that happens.

KTBS is not that desperate.

At 8:42 AM, December 18, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@2:33 is right. I am a long time KTAL employee and I am much happier since I left. Recently I ran into one of our old MCO's who was laid off when last year. He is a deputy with Caddo now, and said he is very happy and regrets not making this change years ago.

At 11:35 AM, December 18, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KTBS wouldn't touch MeeShell with a 20 foot pole. Even they aren't that stupid as word about her peculiarities has more than made the rounds in local media.

Having worked at KMSS, KTBS and KTAL, they all suck in their own way.
I'm glad to be out of TV. I highly recommend pursuing another career path.

At 2:22 PM, December 18, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@1:25 I agree with you 100%. I worked at KMSS and KTAL, and they are the two worst places I have worked. I am out of the business now an love it.

At 2:59 PM, December 18, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'll agree, KTAL, KMSS really suck to work for. KTBS and KSLA aren't far behind mainly because of managers who suck.

At 8:27 AM, December 19, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Isn't that the truth. And the sad thing is the worse the manager the more they advance.

It will be interesting to see if these changes at KTAL are long lasting, or if it is yet another phase. Back when Dan Bates and Scott Thomas were the GM's, and Shawn Kennedy and Andy Pontz were the ND's, KTAL was making some significant improvements, however, they did not stick with it. Hopefully the micromanaging from Irving has stopped.

At 10:27 AM, December 19, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well things at KTAL were getting so bad that even corporate realized something had to change. That's when they fired the ND brought in someone else and eventually fired the GM and brought in someone else. The current ND seems to have a handle on getting improvements made little by little.
Comparing KTAL now to what it was like before is pretty much night & day, I think anyway. Still room for improvement but compared to what it was a couple years ago, it's hard to argue that there haven't been improvements.

At 1:27 PM, December 19, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Corporate fired the last 2 GM's and ND's so which time are you referring to? Since 2002 KTAL has had 4 GM's, 5 ND's, 5 GSM's, and 3 Chief Engineers. That is an extremely high management turnover for any station.

At 3:56 PM, December 19, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You're right about high management turnover. I'm just guessing that these last turnovers in GM & ND resulted in better choices? So far no one seems to be taking shots at the GM or ND like they used to at the others. Call it fate, better choices or whatever. Even a broken watch is correct twice a day. Maybe that's the deal here.

At 7:51 PM, December 19, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@1:27 PM You are absolutely correct on the numbers, however, the management turnover actually started in 2004 when Dan Bates left as GM and Stewart Roland left as Chief ENG, and 2005 when Shawn Kennedy left as ND. Corporate made all of the management hiring decisions so they shoulder all the responsibility, and the blame, for why things were allowed to get as bad as they did over the past 8 years. It is very clear the control freak in Irving, who has been micromanaging the KTAL for years, had it all wrong. Hopefully this current GM and ND are standing up to him.

You talking about Blake?

At 11:41 PM, December 19, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

OMG, telling all of KTAL's little secrets are we? Lets add a little more. It is blatantly obviously 7:51 is talking about Blake. He had that place jacked up when he was there. Even though he left KTAL in 04, Blake has never given up control.

I haven't been on this blog for a long time, and it quickly reminded me why I left KTAL and Shreveport. Yes, KTAL had become an impossible place to work over the last several years. To be honest, it is the worst place I have ever worked. All of the equipment was outdated and everything was either broke, or breaking down. It was so bad we could not get a live shot from the parking lot of Brookshire's one short block from the station. We had snakes in production control and roaches everywhere. The whole place was down right embarrassing.

Karma finally came back on KTAL. Last year I heard from some former KTAL coworkers that a few weeks after they announced master control was being sent to Little Rock everything in master control stared breaking down, and the transmitter went down constantly. How they managed to keep from losing their NBC affiliation is a miracle.

Now I have to admit I really like the new set and graphics package. They should have done that years ago. They must have used the money they saved on salaries from eliminating traffic, master control, and the business office to pay for all these improvements.

I was watching the 10:00 tonight and there are some areas for improvement. I see they still f*#k up the camera shots, and the anchors still walk all over each other. I do not like the control room bump shot. It screams "look at us! Look what we have!" can anyone tell me when they started running that annoying weather crawl during the newscast? Is that a KTAL thing, or a Shreveport thing? KSLA and KTBS did not do that. And none of the stations in any of the other markets I have worked, including my current market, do that. Despite all this KTAL looks 100% better and hope this turns them around.

At 10:52 AM, December 20, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, Blake was a bit overbearing. The weather-crawl has been going on for maybe 6 months or so. KTAL has improved on-air a lot, especially since they let Cummings go. Getting the audio & video to sound and look as good as it does now was probably no easy task. Live shots still need help. They've changed the news set around, I think this is the 3rd or 4th time in the past 6 years or so.
I think they cleaned out the snakes and rats. I believe they shut down their Texarkana Mall Studios which was Dan Bate's big-idea and moved back in the old bldg. So that saved money.

At 12:00 PM, December 20, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

To the ones saying Michelle is much better off not being KTAL anymore, I say the opposite. KTAL is much better off. I hope she reads this and understands this and realize her issues and address them.

1. Try to have a conversation with someone and not simply randomly talking out loud and just waiting for someone to respond.
2. Quoting scripture and then dropping every curse word in the book isn't cool.
3. Some conversations are between "A" and "B"...but you never thought to "C" your way out. The news director and GM don't need you bursting into his/her office while talking to someone else but don't leave.

Michelle "resigned?" I don't think so. KTAL had enough. I am not sure why the last GM hired her. Made no sense.

As far as KTBS hiring her, I don't think so.

Good Luck Michelle. I really mean that, but you have some real social flaws that need addressing.

So spot on! There's been so many things said about her performance in front and behind the camera and away from the station. The term "resigned" may be something worked out between her and the station. I'm sure she got a severance to boot.

TV Diva-like behavior is pretty common in the industry and Shreveport TV has had its share of problem-children on air. And look around, those divas are gone, gone, gone. Even off-air, those divas kept acting the same and they are gone from those lucrative positions at casinos, etc. Wise up Divas!

What ever happened to Sylvia and Shari?
Didn't they have a catfight over Shari being too "friendly" with Sylvia's husband? Also, what is Sherri Waggoner Allen Allen Talley up to? Come on insiders, give us some good blind items and let us try and figure out who was the most outrageous and sexually turbocharged diva!!

At 3:12 PM, December 20, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sylvia occupies her time with community theater appearances and the occasional PR for non-profit gig.
Shari? Last word was she had got popped for writing hot-checks and being in possession of illegal substances. She's pretty much disappeared.
Liz was cunning enough to marry some trust-fund baby and bully her way into getting a DDA position. She was no sweetheart to work with and she is really good at schmooze for self-promotion.
Sherri Waggoner-Allen-Talley is now married to some banker. She's affiliated with some digital signage/media company but it's anyone's guess how much of a prospect that is locally.
While we're on the subject of former TV Diva's, Karin Adams (Barro) is working on her tennis backhand and spending hubby Greg's money and making the social circuit of Shrevesburg mucky-mucks.
That's all I got, anybody else?

At 8:06 PM, December 20, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@3:12 PM Where did that Waggoner name come from? Was that from a first marriage? I know Sherri took back her Talley maiden name after she and Teddy divorced. Then she remarried again but for the life of me, I can not remember her new husbands name even though I have meet him.

I have not seen Sylvia in years. Does she still live in South Highlands on Onianta? Karen Adams-Barro lives a few blocks from Sylvia in the old Beard mansion on Richmond.

You are right about Sherri. She has dropped out of sight. I still see her brother, Dr. Warren, and her cousin Melinda all the time. They don't talk about her and I don't ask.

At 9:21 PM, December 20, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sherri Talley took back her maiden name the week after Teddy married Linnea Fayard. Don't know where the Waggoner name came from but I've heard people use it when describing her from her days at KTAL.

Saw Shari Warren at an Albertson's not too long ago. Let me rephrase that, I think that was her because she wasn't looking too spiffy and I was surprised at her appearance. My how the mighty have fallen.

At 10:26 PM, December 20, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It would not be a surprise if that was Shari. Did you see that booking photo of her on the cover of The Inquisitor a few years ago? She looked like Betty Davis in that old black and white movie "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" I hope Scott is keeping their kid away from her.

Oh I'm sure she'll show up in some form or fashion, either with some clueless civic organization or she'll tap into the political-crony group as a local Non-gov't organization where schmooze is the key.

Who knows. These ego-driven whackjobs never cease to amaze with their audacity for self-promotion.

At 10:09 AM, December 23, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am sure that is exactly what will happen.

9:21 PM December 20, 2012
You most likely did see Shari at Albertson's on Southfield @ E.Kings. I am not sure if she still lives around the corner on Dixie Gardens. I can understand your doubt if it actually was Shari. I saw her about a year or two ago at Shreve City, and I was disturbed by her appearance. I have never seen her that skinny, and it is clear her addictions and legal issues have taken their toll.

At 2:17 PM, December 23, 2012, Anonymous Former KSLA Employee said...

Wow, I can always count on this blog to bring back memories of former co-workers and situations I had forgotten about. It is shocking how far some have fallen.

Speaking of falling what are the ratings like for KSLA? From what little I have seen of all three stations over the past year, it looks like they will soon replace KTAL as the #3 station. Maybe when I come back home for Christmas next year that will have already happened.

At 2:31 PM, December 23, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I was wondering the same thing as KTAL has really improved over the past 6 months or so. Now that they no longer have MeeShell as a primary anchor, I'd imagine more people will migrate over to watching 6 eventually. They have a long way to go still. But I'm guessing they'll get closer to being a number 2 station instead of always a distant 3rd place. I will say however that whoever thinks the KTAL Noon News featuring mostly central Arkansas news is going to help the S'port-Bossier mkt needs to have their heads examined. Wasting the noon slot on non-ArkLaTex news is pure corporate arrogance and simply stupid.

At 12:16 AM, December 24, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That was done because Arkansas Today is free content that covers the entire state. All of the Nexstar stations in Arkansas, or in Texas and Louisiana that have Arkansas as part of their viewing area, air it. KTAL's Nexstar sister station in Monroe also airs Arkansas Today.

At 9:23 AM, December 24, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually it is all of the Nexstar owned NBC station in Arkansas, plus the Nexstar owned NBC stations in Shreveport LA, Monroe LA, and Joplin MO.

At 1:17 PM, December 24, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well for any viewer living in Texas or Louisiana, it's a waste of airtime. One little weather cut-in does not make it local. I can't imagine why any local advertiser would waste their money unless they are clueless about content.

At 2:28 PM, December 24, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It is the same way for the viewers in Southern Missouri. Better get used to it because Arkansas Today is not going away. Besides most people in this region are going to watch KSLA at that time since it is local and ArkLaTex coverage. Not just Little Rock and CenArk like Arkansas Today. Both the weather cut-in, and the local news cut-in during Arkansas Today are pre-recorded then transferred to Little Rock so that part is not live.

I think it is interesting that a person who is NOT from this area is the lead anchor at a local TV station. Someone should at least coach him on how to pronounce some of the beautiful names of cities. Just sayin......

At 12:20 PM, January 09, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mispronouncing place names and surnames has been a long running problem at 3, 6, and 12 for many years. None of the main anchors are from here. Nor are any the producers who write the scripts.

At 11:21 AM, January 10, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That is so true. I am a Shreveport native and during the nine years I was working at KTAL I offered to teach a class, off the clock, on how to pronounce local place names and surnames to the anchors and reporters. Three ND's in a row, Shawn Kennedy, Andy Pontz, and Paul Bergman, declined the offer. I finally gave up.

At 1:40 PM, January 10, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Of course they would refuse! No way you can tell local TV managers how they should do their job . . . much less get paid to do it. They know more than us peons having learned how to put on make up, hair-spray and read words aloud in a sing-songy fashion. Silly-person.

At 11:24 PM, January 10, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know how you felt 11:21. I worked at KTAL during part of that time. Various anchors and reporters mispronounced names all the time. We would tell them the correct pronunciation during the break but most of the time they continued saying it wrong. Even in later newscasts.

Remember how the producers would get old and/or incorrect information which we reported as fact? Both KSLA and KTBS used to kill us in news gathering. It was embarrassing. Even after all this time, and all the money Nexstar has dumped on the new studio and control room last year, I still can not take KTAL seriously.

That's not a surprise as disliked as she is.

At 10:49 AM, January 25, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have to say that I find myself actually watching (and listening to) the KTAL Newscasts more frequently than I used to. Not having to listen to MeeShell butcher the words with excessive pronunciation and exaggerated syllables is such a relief. And the demeanor she displayed on air either due to blunt-force head trauma or impairment due to controlled substances... whatever the cause... was such a distraction. How anyone would put her on the air in the firstplace is beyond me but then again TV managers in this town have never impressed me with their logic in most cases.
Kudos to KTAL finally...after all these years, the newscasts aren't an embarrassment. Now if they could stop hiring immature reporters who took a BPCC course in TV 101, that would be the next step.

Maybe he's a better cable-ad salesman than a GM.

Maybe some of you are not accustomed to hearing an African American women speak correct English . This is probably why you found correct pronunciation of words annoying because your English is not good.

Race and education level were not a factor. Everyone complained about it both black and white. Even English professors at Centenary, Southern, and Wiley complained about it.
Jacque Jovic, Marquel Sennet, Kimberly Rusley, and Stephanie Claytor at KTAL do not have this issue. Domonique Benn and Denise Middleton at KSLA do not have this issue. Nor did Sylvia Rachel when she was there.
Kersten Holmes at KTBS does not have this issue. Nor did Rhonda Lee and Gwen Campbell when they were there.
None of these African American anchors and reporters have this issue. It's just Michelle.

You forget that when MeeShell first came to the S'port mkt and worked at KSLA, she sounded fine and was one of the better anchors in the mkt. But there have been several mentions of her more "recent behavior" here and on other threads indicating that she had some serious issues pertaining either to a chemical and/or alcohol dependency or some other matters which greatly affected both her demeanor, attitude and performance.
I have been around her both during her KSLA days and her KTAL days and based on my first-hand experience, she has changed and not for the better.

She was terrible at her job. Wife and I watched in the afternoons and regulary asked each other if she was drunk or highly medicated. The uppity black attitude didn't help either.

KTAL gave MeeShell an easy out.
Just like other TV stations, more than likely they wrote her a check to go quietly and sign a non-disclosure agreement. She hasn't shown up anywhere else so she couldn't have been much in demand.
