Begining of the End for KLRT News?.....

Nexstar came to the FOX 16 studios and gave employees the option to extend their medical benefits from mid-November through the end of the year - presumably "in the event" they are laid off. Looks like the end is near and the sale of Newport's stations will soon close. Employees were also given the "opportunity" to apply for jobs at KARK...too bad there are just a few available. I think most people are so bitter about this whole thing that they won't go that route, unless they truly love Little Rock and wish to call it home for the long term. Most will seek employment elsewhere. And for anyone who thinks it's "Mission Broadcasting" running the show, you're crazy - all talks to employees have been done by Nexstar, save one.

Mission Broadcasting is under a management agreement with Nexstar, so yeah...you're right about that. Shouldn't be surprised at all. Mission is in name only.
Imagine some will try for a job at KARK but there's only so much to go around. If folks were smart, they'd go back to school and get some sort of medical-skill, more money and waay less drama.
Just as a viewer I find it sad that this is happening. Alot of times i found that 16 produced a product than the other 3. They covered stories that the others didn't and it seemed they spent a little more time telling it.
Will 4 put their shows on 16 as well. I really get tired of watching 4 because as a viewer it seems they repeat their content over and over. I find myself watching other channels because I don't want to feel like I am watching reruns of the news.
Maybe it is just me.

Whatever happens good luck to everyone at KLRT. If you have a chance to leave, or go into another field, go for it. As much as I love broadcasting I chose to get out, and I have not been this happy in years.
Get out now if you are young. Sooner or later you will get the shaft in broadcasting unless you know someone or do a lot of brown nosing. Too many people out there that will work for peanuts.
FOX 16 news and weather is excellent. The on-air folks deserve good pay and respect.
Nexstar doesn't care about its people. Just squeezing out another penny.
Sometimes Fox16 can be a little overly dramatic and there are a few other minor issues but often i have found i like their news format and direction better than KARK channel 4.

That's EXACTLY what they want you to feel. After over 30 years in broadcasting and one after another takeover/sale/whatever I can promise you that it is in your best interest to bail out as quickly as possible.

If there were any reports done this week on mammaw and pappaw showing up at War Memorial stadium in their RV, then those people should lose their job. The Road Hogs ARE NOT NEWS!
If KARK is smart they better try and keep KLRT weather guy around because that would be a major improvement to the guys they have now at KARK . If you watched the last two storms he was the most accurate compared to the other three main stations.
P.S what is the deal with KNWA's new station and HD format it looked like they took a step back to the early 1990's or late 1980's really bad background . I saw it during razorback nation and it looked like the two local stations from Fort smith that do ABC and CBS.

Donna T's fake sighs narrowly edge out her forced cackles as most annoying habits by any broadcaster in the market.
I am sad about this. I LOVE Fox 16 news so much more than the other stations, they show real local stories that matter. Donna and Kevin are fantastic and the they have the best reporters.

Don't you think the other stations will pick up some of these people? 7 needs a weekend anchor and THV has a few openings as well. If they get laid off, how does that effect a non-compete?

They all have sets designed by some out-of-state company that makes cookie cutter sets for a bunch of stations around the country. 40/29's owners have a contract with one of them to do practically the same set at every one of their stations.
Too bad its not KTHV. Everyone at 4 and 16 are better than anyone at 11.

RIF/layoffs/involuntary termination of contracts and employment negate the non-competitive clause. If not spelled out explicitly it should be a slam dunk to invalidate legally.

Seriously though, the other stations here can cherry pick who they want to hire, and with current openings there will not be very many. Since most of the station will not be here this time next year, better freshen up the ole resume and make a reservation with U-Haul.

Kelly Dudzik is the only reason I watch KLRT having to tolerate the annoying pipsqueak they pair her with on the weekends. Although the station's news product ranks just above THV they are sad to be part of Fox & FNC. ALWAYS Fair & Balanced unless you are a Democrat or liberal or radical

Anchors at THV aren't the problem.
Anchors/Main Talent are the biggest problem at THV. Plump, Bald, Lips, unable to speak correctly, weather shack, a woman who gets paid to promote a freakin' cat, grown man with an inferiority complex in the morning. It's some messed up sh&^. News judgment is that of market 190. A lead story is not having your main anchor on a swing set an an elementary school being attacked by mosquitos.
The key phrase is "We're keeping the newscast" that doesn't mean we're keeping the newscasters. Look for the KARK staff to show up on Fox 9 o'clock news.
What the heck is up with NO ANCHORS or sports at THV? Last night Liz did News AND read the 3 sports stories. Duff the Puff cant even speak did the 6 pm "sports" GAG Fixing to quit watching. Sadly Matt Turner was what was going for them. RIP Matt Turner
I had the same thoughts. Duff cannot read. The whole newscast was like nobody showed up for work and camerapersons, engineers and custodians (no offense to these folks)were used to read the stories. Seems THV is in a quandary about talent or the lack of.

People at FOX16 are starting to get pink slips. You will start to see those that aren't going to work for Nexstar go away.

If I got a pink slip from KARK I would count it a blessing and message from God to get out of broadcasting. It's just going to get worse.
I hate what is happening. Fox News was so much better that KARK. Fox usually had a reporter at the scene of whatever it was, whereas KARK just mentioned it on their newscast. KARK seems more interested in human interest stories rather than actual news.
My opinion is not worth much but I only watch the news on KATV and KLRT. The other two stations don't appeal to me as a viewer.
I found it interesting that Channel 7 promotes its medical marijuana story a week in advance and then channel 4 just happens to do the same story the same night. By the way, I saw both and channel 7's was much better.
Well I would hope that with all the experience that Jason Peterson has his would be story better than Marci Manley. If not that than Jason would be in trouble.
And all stations jump the stories of other stations. I know two stations that are working on a story that Janelle Lilley has been working on. It's sweeps!

While KARK and KATV sent their reporters to Denver to report on a story that has major implications for our state come Tuesday, what many of you are failing to realize is that KTHV has a sister (Gannett) station in Denver. Not only did THV fail to send a crew to report the story they didn't even ask for help from their sister station in Denver Terrible news judgement.
KARK needs to take notes from their sister station, KTAL. They really are improving and picking up viewers. KARK's newscasts are unwatchable.

I'm not sure where 1:35 works but I haven't seen one employee get a pink slip as a result of the sale. As a matter of fact I haven't seen an employee get a pink slip at FOX in years.
Nexstar continues to expand with money it doesn't have.

The sale of KLRT/KASN to Nexstar/Mission has been protested to the FCC. Who knows now if or when it will go through. You can go to fcc.gov and it list every Newport station as being sold to Nexstar/Mission but KLRT/KASN is not on the list.
Something big will happen when this does go through if you read JBurr tweets who works at KARK from 2 days ago hinting about being patient for the FOX tv station situation. Which leads me to think that everyone at that station will be gone except maybe for the weather guy which Kark needs one badly .
well if you walk the halls of kark, you would think the sale is a done deal..master control has put in commercial playout systems, they have renovated the business office to accommodate more people, and they are fixing to start renovating editing.

Yes there was a complaint filed back on 9/12/12 by an individual. There is no record of any other complaints.
I agree with my 9:16 AM co-worker, however, I am certain this deal will go through. The FCC has become an irrelevant useless agency that needs to be reorganized, or dissolved all together.
I know its radio but what do you people think about Bo Matingly leaving 103.7 the Buzz for 93.3 Fresh talk in central Arkansas.And also what is the deal with hogsports radio 95.3 up in Northwest Arkansas it went from being decent 2 years ago to the Manager Dan Storrs letting go of everyone like his best show Dave Barr and Jordan Stuckey for the past year that he just let go out of nowhere last April and also Ugly uncle show the year before that to having a bunch of crappy radios like Nick Mason and Yahoo Sports for the rest of the day. Fayetteville needs Dave Barr and Jordan Stucky back on local sports radio .
Dud it's talk radio. Only 3 dozen people listen to it. No one cares. The same 6 people call in every day from their mom's basement.
I work at FOX16 and agree with 9:16 and 10:42. People are tired of this and are starting to leave. Averaging nearly two to three resignations a week. The other three stations are starting to pick people off one by one. It's most assuredly the beginning of the end.
Tell me about it. It's not all sunshine and rainbows that is why I am one of the resignations you just mentioned.
I think the Bo will be sorry he left. That 93.3 station isn't doing well at all.
They don't need to do pink slips... the exodus is happening on its own.
