Clean Sweep for KATV in July; KTHV Sinks Further

Arkansas Business.com reports KATV/Channel 7 won every single news time in the July sweeps.  Meanwhile, KTHV/Channel 11 seems to be falling further and further behind...losing the 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.time slots to KARK, putting it in third place!  AB.com says KTHV beat Channel 4 only during the noon hour.

The folks at KATV are thrilled with the numbers: “If you look at the overall share performances, pretty much across the board, we’re doubling our competition,” KATV General Manager Mark Rose said. “We’re very thrilled with what we’re doing. … The July performance has probably been the most dominant for us in the past two decades.”

Go KATV! We're the best because we have the best product, best looking people, best management, and best viewers. Here's to many more years of domination. No one can touch us.

Really? The anchors are good but the reporters SUCK! Reporters look like they are fresh out of college. KTHV sucks because well..every reporter sucks and nearly every anchor. Only solid anchor at 11 is dawn.

C'mon people, it's not THV's fault. Read the article....it's Nielsens fault. Everything here is fine. We've got nothing to worry about. (sarcasm)

Dawn and Alyse are both solid anchors.

Love Dawn and Alyse does a good job too. I even like Ashley and Liz. The addition of Matt will be great.

At 12:06 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, we're THV. We're awesome.....third place feels great!!!!! We all know those silly Nielsen people are biased. We have the best of everything. Liz and Alyse are the best anchors in this market. Way to go guys, we rock!!!

No I'd say Ashley Blackstone and Craig are.

At 12:19 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dawn is definitely the best anchor at THV, and Alyse comes in at a close second.

At 12:27 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why are we having this conversation? No one comes close to Ashley Blackstone and Liz Massey.

At 12:28 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, apparently they are loved by literally hundreds of people across the state.

I get so tired of losers coming on here and hating on Liz. Liz is a very good anchor. She may not be a size 4, but who cares...she is still good at her job.

At 1:29 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's not your size that's an issue Liz.

Congratulations to KATV. Job well done.

I love that all the pro Alyse comments pour in within about an hour of each other. Don't fret Alyse you can stop being so obsessed with this blog...I really don't think they'll force you to be a morning reporter...even if that is the rumor.

At 7:51 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alyse should take it as the ultimate compliment that someone insists on bringing up her name. Same with Dawn and Liz. Always sounds like a bitchy THVer too. With what they're paying her, she's not going anywhere. It's the ones making less than her that should be worried.

Alyse is a very nice girl, but she is a morning personality, not a journalist. She has no reporting background; therefore, she cannot become a morning reporter, so she should stop worrying. She will be maintained as a personality because she was hired to boost ratings because she was Miss Arkansas and the runner up to Miss America. This was the Audas plan to keep ratings up on the morning show. She is paid very well to do what she does. When she first went to work, her co-workers pulled her weight and gave her special training. Too much salary and too much time and training have been invested in Alyse for her to become a reporter. I think the fact that she was almost Miss America makes her immune to a demotion.

At 8:03 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I dare say Ms Eady isn't the one that should be worried about being demoted on the morning show. Changes are a'comin in the morning and evening too!

At 8:06 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

She was hired to boost morning ratings? How's that working out for ya?

At 8:11 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yawn. The Alyse basher strikes again.

At 8:13 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nobody said it was working. The reality is audas hired her because the home state girl had won big and could bring the ratings in because she had a following as a beauty queen.I am sure he convinced her it was her ticket to local news and then a ticket to bigger things. That and a very large salary sealed the deal.

At 8:20 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dawn, Ashley, Liz, and Alise should be thrilled that they keep mentioning them on this blog, after this last book I really wasn't sure if anyone knew who they were. Thank God for other THVers even if they are just bitter.

At 8:23 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Amen! THV must be a horrible place to work with the jealousy and bitterness that comes to light here.

At 8:29 PM, August 27, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

First, they are very few people who would even know that she was runner up in a beauty pageant and even fewer who would care. Second, that did get her the job but then it was up to her to prove she could do it, she hasn't. Being runner up in a pageant doesn't really qualify you for much of anything, it does open a few doors but if your bad, your bad. There's no changing that fact. It was a ratings stunt that didn't work, simple as that. If they are stuck with a large contract then that was just bad management on THV's part. Also, the person who is constantly telling us how good she is (I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt that it's not her) please stop. Your not convincing anybody otherwise. The vast majority of the people on this blog are in the industry and know talent. Most are THV'ers so that would explain a lot of the negativity however because it couldn't have been a popular decision to bring in someone with no experience and no talent so I'm sure there are jealousy issues within the building. She has gotten better but she is nowhere near the level of other people in her position in the market. And the poster above made a good point that they can't really put her in a morning reporter position. She would be horrible with no journalism experience whatsoever.

The fact may not be what 11 is doing wrong..but rather what 7 is finally doing right! Forever 7's mornings were dominated by female hosts. 7 finally wised up and thinned out the numbers and narrowed it down to 3. I haven't watched 4 in awhile to see what they are doing but it must be working! 11 needs to define who the faces at the desk will be and keep it that way and not keep the viewers guessing on who will be there the next time.

To the Alyse hater, you're nothing more than a "blog troll." A blog troll is a pathetic and moronic person who sits in front of a computer all day and post inflammatory and idiotic statements and comments about people. It's been proven that a large majority of these "blog trolls" are have a propensity for obsessive-compulsive behaviors. It's obvious that this "blog troll" is obsessed with Alyse. Mr. Blog Troll, you might post anonymously, but your ip address is never anonymous. Have a good night, Mr. Blog Troll!

I have no problem with Alyse and don't watch much 11...but its interesting to me that Liz gets trashed all the time on here and there is very little response...but when one person comments negatively about Alyse a very mean spirited comment is fired back.
Just relax sweetie you are doing fine!

Regarding 9:16's comment. "I haven't watched 4 in awhile to see what they are doing but it must be working! "

Channel 4 was down in all shows. It's not that KARK is better. It's that THV is worse and all their viewers are switching to KATV.

At 11:51 AM, August 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You can say whatever you want about Alyse and the deal she got at THV. And there may well be resentment in the newsroom. But let me tell you something: there has ALWAYS been resentment toward anchors who make large salaries. Do you think the newsroom people liked the fact that Anne Jansen pulled down a huge salary and put in about 3 hours a day at the station? Do you think people like the fact that Dawn comes in and does a short shift and leaves after the 6, and yet she pulls down a big salary? These anchors were able to negotiate these deals, and that includes Alyse. If management is/was willing to pay them, it's because management thought they were worth the investment. The same person is always on here complaining about
Alyse's lack of journalism experience. She was not HIRED to be a journalist. Get over yourself and go make the lunch run for the producers.

I agree that Alyse is struggling to find herself on air but I think she can get better. I also think she COULD be a morning reporter...it's just goofy live shots mostly.

Struggling? Not the right word. She's actually doing a good job. I just don't like having two young women on the couch together because of a lack of diversity. Not that looks are all that matters, but my hubby is quite taken with Alyse and Wendy over at 4!!!

I sure miss having Heather anchor on the weekends.
In my opinion, she was the hottest woman on Arkansas news television.
I mean those eyes, her hair, her legs were just awesome.
Anyone else think Heather was sexy? Tell us your opinion of her.

At 11:05 PM, August 28, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alyse is definitely NOT struggling. She is the 2nd highest paid anchor at KTHV and she's contract, so she'll definitely not become a reporter.

At 7:54 AM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alyse, Ashley & Tom are actually doing a great job. The problem is, many loyal watchers got tired of the constant rotating chairs and decided to switch to KATV & KARK. KATV & KARK also have great marketing strategies that includes a lot of games and contests where watchers can win free stuff, and people love free stuff. KTHV need to invest more into marketing, because they actually have quality morning anchors that are very likeable.

THV viewers didn't switch to KARK, they switched to KATV.

I remember when Little Rock's own Christina Mclarty (Mt. St. Mary graduate) was hired right out of New York University as a reporter at KATV, and how she was hated on for being beautiful and called a no-talent on the blogs. Well she proved them all WRONG! She was at KATV for a year or two and then went onto Dallas, from Dallas to Los Angeles (the no. 2 market)as a lifestyle correspondent, and from there she became a entertainment correspondent and weekend co-anchor on Entertainment Tonight. Now she's a top rated entertainment correspondent spending her time between Los Angeles and New York City interviewing A-list celebrities and hobnonobbing with the Hollywood and NYC elite. She was married to multi-millionaire Joe Francis (Girls Gone Wild founder), divorced him and walked away with a $10 million divorce settlement, dated David Arquette, and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover). When people hate on others, it's really about the insecurities of the hater and not the person they're hating upon. Keep hating on whomever, but as you're hating, they're most likely going higher and higher in their careers. Those people that were hating on Christina are probably still hating today on someone else. What a very sad existence.

Sounds like Christina Mclarty knew how to lay on a couch. Just saying because I have no idea who she is. Sounds like a real be-atch though.

At 4:16 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I remember Christina. She was one of the hottest reporters in Little Rock ever! I catch her on The Insider and ET every now and then.

At 4:22 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Christina McLarty is a correspondent for the syndicated entertainment news program, "The Insider." She joined the show in February 2011.

Previously, Christina McLarty worked at CBS 2 News in Los Angeles as an entertainment reporter for four years. Notable interviews included Stevie Wonder, The Black Eyed Peas, Mel Brooks, Britney Spears, members of the Los Angeles Lakers and the cast of "Hawaii 5-0."

Previously McLarty served as a lifestyle correspondent for CBS 11 News in Dallas/Fort Worth, covering arts, fashion, food, entertainment and culture. Christina also hosted "Time Out With Coach Johnson," a show centered around the Dallas Mavericks. Christina often traveled with the team, providing a behind the scenes glimpse into life on the road in the NBA.

Before Dallas, McLarty worked as a General Assignment Reporter for KATV in Little Rock, Arkansas, her home town. Christina covered everything from duck hunting to Wesley Clark's campaign. She even scored a one-on-one sit down interview with the former first lady of Arkansas and the nation, Sen. Hillary Clinton.

McLarty attended New York University, earning a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Why would a reporter from New York come to Arkansas, and about the time Clinton was running for president.....Oh.....that's why. She was once married to the "Girls gone wild" creep, like I said, she has knee pads and a gold digger to boot.

At 5:13 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@508, she was born and raised in Little Rock. She went to college at NYU and came back to LR to begin her career. She didn't marry Joe Francis until after she landed a job at CBS-LA. Stop hating!

At 5:24 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@ 508, your comment does not make any sense. Christina and I are the same age (31). When Mr. Clinton was running for president we were young children. lol

At 5:34 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm sure it helped that Christina's parents were/are personal friends of the Clinton's and that she and Chelsea were childhood friends. Christina also interned with the Clinton's and they wrote her reference letters for literally every position she has ever had.

At 5:42 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@ 5:13 Like I said, I don't even know who she is so she couldn't have been that good and I am a good ten years older than 31 and have lived here all my life. I was just ruffling someones feathers since someone has such a hard on for her.

At 5:58 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Christina Mclarty was at KATV the same time as Kate Sullivan. Kate Sullivan left and went to NYC to anchor the evening news and Christina went to Dallas and then LA. I remember Christina and Kate were real good friends. Probably around 2003-2005 for Christina.

At 6:15 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

During the early 2000's Little Rock had some top-notched anchors that went on to top-tier and national status. I remember Christina because she was very attractive, but we also had the likes of Kate Sullivan, Karen Fuller, Denise Whitaker and TJ Holmes.

At 6:24 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Being young and attractive is almost always a requirement to move into the top 10 markets. If you look at the NYC, LA, Miami and even Dallas markets; all the anchors look like models and beauty pageantry winners. If you're articulate, a decent anchor/reporter and good looking; you definitely have the potential to move into top markets. It's not always the most qualified, but rather the most qualified and attractive person. It may not be fair, but that's how it is. News anchors/correspondents today are more tv personality and less serious journalist.

At 8:01 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, but that is not necessarily the case in all Top 10 markets. For example, at KNBC in LA none of the anchors and lead reporters are under 40.

At 8:10 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with you on that. I used to watch KNBC's 11:00PM newscast when I worked at KARK. KNBC is the exception to the rule. None of them look anything like the Botox Barbie's around here or over in the Dallas market.

At 8:13 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@ 8:01- That's true about KNBC-LA having older anchors, but at the same time they are the lowest rated in comparison with the CBS and ABC affiliate. I interned for KNBC when I was in college in the early 90's when it was still vital, but the ratings have tanked over the past several years.

At 8:22 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

8:13 Do you thing that could be an NBC thing? The NBC stations in LA, Little Rock, and Texarkana-Shreveport all have the lowest ratings in their respective markets.

At 9:41 PM, August 29, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@ 8:22-I can see that...that's conceivable.

At 3:49 PM, August 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I rmember Christina McLarty interviewed for a reporter's job at THV. When the news director introduced her around the newsroom she told most that she was Mack McLarty's niece -- he was Clinton's chief of staff. I heard thru the grapevine that she was asking for anchor-type money even at that time.

At 5:49 PM, August 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

As far as attractive former little rock anchors/reporters don't forget about betsy pilgrim.

At 5:55 PM, August 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I remember Christina Mclarty too. I had no idea she had made it big time until I googled her online. Joe Francis is worth $200 mil and she walked away with $10 mil in the divorce after only being married for less than a year. Lucky girl!

At 6:24 PM, August 30, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Christina was born into a very influential and connected family. If she had been born to Sue & Billy Bob I doubt she would be where she is today.
