And they still look as crappy as ever.
I don't mind that they are last to bring HD to this market as long they don't spend every friggin intro and promo that they are "first in hd". If everyone now has HD...your technology upgrade is complete..now please work on providing a better quality product of news and information so we are better informed. If your reporting (and reporters) get better, we will certainly appreciate you more now that we can all view you in high definition.
Did HD really make any difference in Ratings? How long has the HD leader had it, and has it helped in ratings for them? They should have buried the competition.
To keep running promos that say "First, in HD" and "In HIGH . . . DEFINITION" is just stupid.
Unlike KTHV and KARK, KATV showed class in low profiling their HD premier.
KATV has yet to put an error free newscast on air. For the love of god, who the hell is running the board over there for them? Embarrassing....
But, KATV still does say "In High Definition" in their opening. No different from anyone else. If anything, Fox 16 was low profile in their HD premier.
So many errors tonight.
THV is the ugliest in HD. Hate their back drop and their newsroom shot looks like the glass infront of the tv wall is being held up by duct tape.
I dont like the double desk at kark but overall they look good.
It took me up until now to get used to the swirl in the back drop at katv. Who would add that. It would be my favorite if not for the swirl that makes it look fake.
You can tell Fox spent the most over hauling, luckily it turned out good. Id say it looks the best although their camera shot are so far, sometimes you cant tell who just walked on set.
Glad katv joined the hd train. Look good but fix the glitches, its too much. Happens to often.
Since these stations keep reporting the same news over and over and over on their noon telecasts, here's how they can save money. Just videotape the news at the begining of the week and just play it for several days. They wouldn't have to pay a person to come in and read the same old news. The weather guesser could just break in and give the weather.
KATV is like Notre Dame football, they're living off of past glory and they are yet to realize how unimportant they are these days.
Except Notre Dame isn't #1 in all the polls.
Neither is KATV.

i think sat night they must have had their A team of directors in there. that show was pretty flawless..sunday night, eh, must have been back to the b squad. you could tell someone wasnt comfortable with something.
The demise of KATV has been predicted on here since this blog began and it still hasn't come to fruition.

To the person that said they "showed class in low profiling their HD premier"... DUH..They're almost 6 months behind the rest of the stations with the switch, that's why! Let's not forget the fact that they slammed promos on "Your watching KATV in HD" with talent, when their news was still in SD. In any case... HD doesn't matter in the ratings... Look at FOX 16, they look great and continue to lose viewers while 7 looks horrible and dominates. Viewers DON'T CARE!
Thv needs to get off their high horse of first in hd. Their field caneras are still standard. Only their studio cameras are hd.
I don't think it's as much of a high horse thing as it is a no-money-for-new-graphics thing
Wx Garden camera is surveillance quality. Most bank cameras have better resolution. Not quite "first" in full HD. Sad.
I watched the Sunday night edition and omg she now reads as slow as Pam smith ! I nearly fell asleep. Pep it up!

Shreveport's market is worse than Little Rock's. KTAL has yet to go HD. In this case, HD matters because they are last in the ratings.
The THV first in HD thing is really annoying. No one cares. Just report the news.

Actually, I believe they are number 4 in the market. I believe the KMSS News at 9 has more viewers than their 10 PM news.
KMSS's news @ 9:00 is not even local. It's out of Baton Rouge and I don't think any of the on air talent has ever been to Shreveport.
Last time I checked, they were out of Tyler. Still not local though.

Well, what about KARK still saying, "Now . . . in high definition!" If you have a high definition receiver you know it's in HD, if you don't it does not matter.

I have seen BPCC newscasts that are much better then KMSS's 9:00 PM Fox News Louisiana newscast out of Tyler. KMSS has always been a s___hole. That's why I no longer work there.
What is going on with katv? They can never seem to get a pkg on the air, and when they do, it looks like slapped together crap. Total crap.
At least KATV has a few folks that you won't mind seeing in HD.
No way! The eye candy is on in the mornings at 11 and 4! Now I like seeing those girls in HD!!
I bless the Lord I don't have an HD tv, because the thought of seeing Ned Perme in HD is frightening.

KATV may look crappy, as the original poster on this blog wrote, but tonight they did a live interview from Fayetteville in HD. I do believe that is a first for LR television. So . . .
who frakin' cares. The viewers don't. They already thought everybody was in HD. Jesus H Christ on a popcicle stick. Look at the research, it doesn't matter.

When you pay big bucks for those bumpers to be put together you have to get your money's worth out of them. Probably run them for another few months.

And they always will. The ownership of KATV could care less what the station looks like, they send all their old crappy worn-out equipment to KATV instead of buying them new stuff. There's a patch panel in the basement that's so old they are scared to pull any patches out of it because they have NO IDEA where those patches lead. The last time they pulled one they were forced to do their newscasts from the roof of the building using their sat truck. As long as the GM is making lots of money he's happy. He could give a shit about what the station looks like or give a shit about us engineers who do most of the work keeping this ancient crap on the air. They need to tear down that old crappy bank building and start over, but they won't.

That's what happens when Bozo The Clone fires all the veteran board ops and engineers because they are making too much money (Just ask Arley) and bring in "board ops" who were just recently shoveling fries at McDonalds.
Channel 16 & 38 both suffer this problem. Ever notice all the dead air? Notice how some commercials or promos will blow you across the room they are so loud while others you cannot hear?

20 years ago the stations would have to be answering to the FCC for these violations. Now . . . apparently a broadcast station can do just about anything they want to do. Don't even have to come back on with an I.D. after being off the air for tech difficulties. Good broadcast standards are a joke now.
Do stations have anyone to handle technical problems? You would think that KTHV and KARK have hired someone off the street to do their work.
Speaking of bringing up the rear, when is Fort Smith/nwa going to broadcast news in HD?
Commercials on both KARK and KTHV are twice as loud as the program sound and on KTHV-2 or since I watch local stations over-the-air via antenna, Channel 12.2, the sound is twice as loud as that. Who is in charge of that?
