No big deal.
Someone at 7 told me heather re-signed to do the 5pm.
Its temporary as far as I've heard.

Yep, temporary. She'll probably fill in for Munoz when she goes on maternity leave as well.

11 has nothing left now in the morning. The newscast are boring and dull. It's like them and 7 switched shows. I like Ashley with Tom though. Maybe after time they can bring it back. But 11 has been getting bad morning ratings for the past 3 or so years. Guess it was only a matter of time. I blame it on their morning managers and/or morning exec producers. The show isn't formatted right and isn't directed towards women at all. I know this because I am one and I have a tough problem finding something for me on their show. That's who's watching in the mornings. They need to drop that business blog/ news segment thing and do something geared towards working moms or families. It's like they are oblivious to their demo. Sad and lazy is what it is. You don't need a daily live shot to have a good morning show. I worked on one in a 25 market for years. All you need is a daily routine of good interviews mixed in with laughs and solid news. It's a simple combo. I've watched all stations for about 7 years now, and 11 is the only one who will let their met talk 5 whole minutes about his view or take on something. The people at home don't care. Do you watch The Today Show to hear Matt's take on the Grammys or the tornado? No. You'd like a quick comment, but nothing more than 15 seconds. Ever. They want one liners from the talent, not lectures, Tom.

Awesome analysis @5:09. Would love to hear your take on the other 2 shows.

ditto 5 09 here my take 4 nice look on the eyes Pros they are informal and sharp 11 everything 5 09 said 7 sets are bad they do have HD watch 7 HD for a seracy motel room everyone looked older in HD what i wouild have done is moved Mayo to SAT daybreak give the AX to P Smith and reanee s this couild tick allson C off because her and beth are best freinds and i think part of the reason Allson wanted to work at 7 was to hang out with beth those two have great timed i think Allson Beth and Barry couild have been num 1 in the morm with a new set and time tother

@5:09 I agree. Boring, dull and forced.

Oh and I like the cat and all but must they go on and on and on about it like it's the last one left on the planet. It get's annoying.

Personally, I find all of the local morning shows to be rather bland. Once the weather forecast is shown and the previous nights major stories are read, I change to the national news.

In tom's defense, they have put all the pressure on him. He works harder than anybody in this tv market. He gets out in the community and he puts in more hours than anybody else. He has had the current format crammed down his throat. It's hard not to talk too much when you have nobody else that can carry the show. Allison and Beth have ZERO chemistry. Beth rolls her eyes at Allison, which is a joke. If she is not making a permanent move to evenings, then good luck. Don't care much for rolling eyes in the morning.

I agree. Don't like Beth and Allison on 7. If they are best friends, then I don't get it? Tom has obviously been through hell over the years. He will surely leave soon.

This made me laugh. I think I might have peed a little.

The business segment should be in the evening (5 and 6) AFTER the markets close; not in the morning five hours before they open.

I am a female and I enjoy the business segment.

Allison and Beth bff...riiight.

Tom stopped being funny and started being cranky some time ago.

7s set sucks. Maybe Genty will import some of 11s set philosophy.

4 was so bad for so long I don't know what they have to do to get noticed. They do look sharp.

Live for live's sake is meaningless.

With MDG leaving the morning show is is just going to be Ashley and Tom until August? Interesting if they can pull that off.

Let's face it, 11 has issues; change left and right, never knowing who's going to be your anchor or which anchor is leaving -not a good thing. Management has messed up a really good thing. Did the GM really bail after hiring Miss Arkansas? As for Tom being cranky in the mornings, I don't see it. What I do see is a few haters who want him to fail I guess. He's been part of a morning show that has been number 1 consistently for around 12 years... until recently. First, BJ, Robyn & Tom, Then BJ, Allison and Tom, and even with Charley, Allison & Tom. What have you ever done? I'm sure management would have shown him the door if he weren't doing something right? There has been nothing but change, especially on the mornings, 2 complete anchor changes in 3 years of which isn't his fault. (BJ & Robyn Retiring). Being a friend of Charley's, I know that he left for a better job and more money, but was basically forced out because they refused to pay him. Allison left for more money, they wouldn't pay her either. I have also heard he (Tom) might leave as well. Some of you might be pleased with that. In my estimation, Tom has every right to be cranky if that's what you want to call it. Yes, 11 does have plenty of issues, I flip back and forth and yes their news product is dull and boring, that's the ND and GM's fault for killing something that was fun. With Melissa leaving and going to weekends, that's more change, something 11 doesn't need.

I've been watching Tom as long as he has been on the morning show. Never a dull moment and I love it! If he leaves, I'll switch to CNN.

So is Ashley Blackstone permanently moving to mornings? Is Melissa Dunbar-Gates going to anchor the weekend news desk @ channel 11?

At 8:06 AM, June 12, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Blackstone will be on mornings while Melissa moves to Saturday Morning. Melissa wanted to work a day or two a week in order to stay at home with her twins.

That's great- I love Ashley. She is so beautiful and has a great personality. She, Tom and Alyse will be a good team.

Sorry, but 11 has NOT been number one for 12 years. They haven't been number one on a consistent basis since it was BJ, RObin and Tom.

At 7:33 AM, June 13, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Then why was 7 so anxious to get Allison? Ch. 11 has been #1 until the last couple of books. But the question is, if they lost ratings with Allison, why would 7 want her over there if they supposedly were doing so well? Allison was not part of those glory days.

I thought it was strange there was no mention of Beth this morning, or did I miss it?

At 6:23 PM, June 13, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No you're wrong. 11 had been number one for 12 years - consistently. 10 of those with BJ, Robyn, & Tom. BJ, Alyson and Tom were #1 for 2 years and then after a couple of decent books, Larry Audas took over and the rest is history.

Ashley is going to be fine. As well as Alyse. It'll be a welcome change. The points about Alyson are interesting, and yes, funny how there was no mention of Beth this morning. 7 has to be careful not to piss off the Beth fans out there. They don't want the remotes to click someplace else at this juncture. Change can be a good thing, but not in this case. They would have been better suited to put Alyson on in the evening to cover for Heather and Christina.

6:23 is right, but it wasn't just Larry Audas. Bad morning manager/producer for the past few years doesn't help.

Blame on the AM Producer? Seriously?

At 3:28 PM, June 15, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have to disagree. In order to keep his/her job as a morning Producer or EP, you answered to the ND who answered to Larry. Larry on a number of occasions threatened jobs if his protocol wasn't carried out. This is STRICTLY on the micro-managing GM. The last show he got his mitts on and ruined was the Morning Show! The producer was just a puppet.

Any GM or news director that lets a contract completely run out before they make someone an offer.... doesn't know what they are doing.

At 11:52 AM, June 16, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well Larry is gone and the morning show still sucks so you don't have much evidence on that one. The same people are on the show every week. Who is planning the show? Joey the cat??? Larry didnt control the show so much that the planning producer couldnt even find a decent interview. I'm now watching KATV. They atleast have something different to offer.

At 12:19 PM, June 16, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

11:52 is right. Never really thought about it. Yes. Anchors have changed since I started watching 11 but the lack of interesting things is why I don't watch anymore. It has nothing to do with Alison being gone or bj retiring. The show has nothing for me. Id rather just watch daybreak and be a little less bored. They really vary up the segments. I can only watch so many chris garden guy segments before I want something new. LOL!!! I'll go back to 11 if they give me a reason I guess.

At 4:06 PM, June 17, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is it just me or does it seem like Alyson is spending more time doing remotes each morning since she started on air than Beth & Melinda have ever done since they have been on Daybreak?

At 4:09 PM, June 17, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Allyson is a people person you can tell. Beth, Melinda and others at KATV aren't. They are just there to see themselves on tee vee.

At 8:27 AM, June 18, 2011, Anonymous Anonymous said...

11's problem is a people issue. People as in crappy GMs like Larry Audas. Like producers who aren't willing to nearly kill themselves over putting out a good product. It's the issue of losing people left and right, being cut to the bone. The show reached critical mass a long time ago, too many people responsible for too many things. Larry turned the station ideal from "See/Feel the Difference" to "How much money can we save Gannett?" and it shows. If he'd left it alone and let the people who really put it together do their jobs, it'd probably still be on top today.

Y'all might want to check and see how your Gannett retirement package is working out. Is Gannett still giving out stock to employees?

This will not work as a matter of fact, that's what I consider.
