Beauty Queen Hired for THV Mornings....
As promised a new morning personality has been chosen for THV This Morning. KTHV has hired Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady to take the spot left vacant by Alyson Courtney. "Anyone who has met Alyse knows she is as charming as she is intelligent, as delightful as she is committed," said KTHV President & General Manager Larry Audas. "She is altogether engaging and now dedicated to THV morning viewers."

Say it ain't so. This isn't good for THV. It seems like an act of desperation and much too much of a gimmick. Let's hope for Larry's sake she's the next Donna Axum.
I'll give her a chance. I'm a cynic and every time I've met her I've been impressed with her smarts and lack of a huge ego.
I'm sure THV ran her through fake newscasts and focus groups. However, the question will be whether she will be able to be read off a teleprompter without looking like.. well, a beauty queen. You might want to tune into Betty on CBS overnights for a good lesson in hot and credible.
Poor girl.. the personal appearances they're going to put her through. Heck, she may make Craig O'Neil Hankins look like a piker.
Sorry to say, but her capped teeth are already bugging me. And we have to wait until August? THV will have lost me in the mornings WAY before then... like maybe May.

I quit watching THV honestly before Alyson left for 7. Was a loyal viewer of Robyn, Tom and BJ. That's all my co-workers would talk about at the office in the morning. To keep up I had to watch. Think it's too far gone for me to switch back from Morning Joe or cartoons with the kiddos.

Arkansas is in love with this girl? Get real. 99.9% of the people in this state couldn't tell you what her name is. They have a winner alright. She won a beauty contest. It happens all the time. Good Lord.
I ADD -- I didn't cheer HER on in the pageant, I cheered ARKANSAS on.
I don't know who she is and if it's true she graduated last year, I think it is a slap in the face to the people who work hard to try and earn a role as an anchor!

Who was Miss America runner up three years ago? Last year? Her value right now is inflated due to her beauty queen status. As the shine rubs off that rose over the years, she'll be just another expense line on a spreadsheet, and just as vulnerable as you other cogs. I don't know why Alyson left. But her perceived value was higher than their perceived value of her. Now she's a cog in the KATV machine.
There are more positive comments than negative, and the person who posted FB comments only posted the negative. You all complaining are probably from the competition and don't like it.... or better yet, are going to be blind sided if you DON'T think she is a threat.
THV is not finished adding to the morning show.......
THV adds a bunch of worthless talent (5 anchors) to a single show. So, there is someone for everyone to like (hopefully). Coming Soon: Avatars with big breasts and puppets with freckles will replace humans because it's cheaper to pay licensing for them, and avoid salaries.
The ratings will give us a clear picture about the decision to hire her. Too early for predictions.
Someone posted a link to this blog on the THV Facebook page some time back. Now we're getting comments from people who have no connection to this business other than reading the THV Facebook posts. So Alyse graduated in 2010? Katherina Yancy hadn't even graduated from college when THV hired her as an on-air reporter. Viewers weren't griping about that...because they didn't KNOW. Why are you people (especially those of you who are not in any way connected to the business) jealous of Alyse getting a shot on the morning show? Do you understand what it is? Harmless fluff and chit chat. Alyse doesn't HAVE to be a seasoned reporter to make it work. Get real! And get off her back.

Katherina graduted while working behind the scenes for Positively Arkansas as a producer before moving to news when the show was cancelled, get it straight... and she is working her way up, that's why peolpe didn't notice!!!!!
Yea, there is no comparison between katerina and alyse. Katerina was an mmj which is about 10 years of work under an anchor. Now if alyse had to lug a camera and work long hours for 5-10 years.... Then it wouldn't be such a big deal. But this is a gannett pr stunt which will hurt them in 2 years when gannett takes alyse and throws her in a top 20 station. Larry will be back at square one.

Yes, I called a THV buddy and asked. Check this out, the two morning show producers graduated from college (last year) and got the job.
EVERY MMJ at THV just graduated or this is their first TV job.
Other news stations have young employees but have a stricy policy not to hire someone without experince. They still pay low, but not as low as THV.
So yes, THV is run by 20 year olds.

Being a reporter is not necessarily a stepping stone to being an anchor. Alyse is the host of the morning show, not a news anchor. Sounds to me like a lot of reporters are jealous that somebody from outside is getting a break. Local tv news is a dying business, anyway. With Facebook, Twitter, etc.--by the time the news is on tv, everyone already knows it. The days when you could get on your high horse about a journalism degree being necessary to work in local tv news are over.
Why hate on all of the young kids? They are getting a great opportunity. I wish I would have gotten it in my 20s, but I didn't. Big deal. You can't hate them for going for it! Good job to the reporters and miss arkansas and the producers. Don't be jealous of them because you probably had to start in market 200. Hate the station. Don't take it out on the young people.

You're nitpicking. Doesn't matter what they call her. The morning show is not a hard news program--it's not the 5, 6, or 10 (which are not necessarily hard news anymore, either, but that's another post). The morning show is feel-good programming--it's more about how they relate to viewers, not whether they have years of experience in news. You can give her whatever title you want--everyone knows the deal. And I think it will work.
Whether she's a good or bad pick, by August when she's suppose to start, everyone will have already clicked off the station.
Personally, I like Melissa just fine but I don't think she and Tom can hold the fort down.

Really? I guess a Philosophy Degree is going to help one understand what rights a reporter really does have? I guess reading up on FOI and media laws, understanding how to work sources, knowing news judgment and knowing how to WRITE are all things they really don't matter do they?

I hope and pray that you are just a lurker, I really do. If you are in the media field and you are contempt reading spoon-fed PR releases then you should get out NOW! If you don't understand the power to influence change, protect the rights of the innocent, and be the eyes and ears for the public when they are too busy, too ignorant or just don't care when they should be. Then you truly don't understand the power of what the field is about. Our society has been dumbed down with reality TV, unrealistic quick raises to fame and influence of people that have no business being in that position that true journalism is getting lost in the shuffle and DWI arrests by Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton or whatever worthless 15-minute of famer make the newscast. And yep, a Philosophy degree is really going to help one understand that.
And no it's not jealousy that she is doing the morning show, it is more a teleprompter reading gig anyway and asking the local Rodeo Queen what kind of horse she has or how many cookies the local Girl Scout troop has sold. It is not journalism anyway.

I saw her & concur! Way to go, Alyse! She did great this morning. She reminded me of Robyn also .... graceful, comfortable, warm, good rapport with Tom & the kids on location. The haters come across more green with envy to me. Perhaps some had to work harder & longer because they had to develop their talent. Some have it naturally. Just sayin.
I am so glad to say I was right yesterday when I posted that Alyse would do just fine. She was great on the show this morning. Oh, and wow! She just graduated in 2010, and she has no broadcast experience...and yet she nailed it! What do you say now, peeps? She's not anchoring the network news. MORE than a pretty face, you as a supposed journalist, you need to do a litle more research on Alyse before passing judgement. At the very least - beauty, AND TALENT - something you don't have. As an employee of THV, we'd be better off without YOU!

Melisa won't always be there. She has kids and will have to miss. And not all morning show interviews and topics are soft news. I feel bad for melissa. Sounds like she's going to still be doing all of the work with no title. Sad.
No one will really know until she goes full time. A few guest appearances here and there is what she's used to. Wait until she has to anchor the whole 2 and a half hours. That will be the real test. ......holding my opinion until august.......
But alyse IS a news anchor. If she wasnt then she wouldnt be sitting on the couch with a new press release that says..... THV'S NEW news anchor! It doesn't say host. If she is just a host then why are they not calling her that?
Also looks like the viewers are already seeing through it. Facebook comments like what happened to journalism and she doesn't even have the experience to make a knowledgeable comment on health care reform. She probably doesn't even pay for her own health insurance yet. That one is my favorite. But that viewer has a point. If the morning show's average viewers are 24-44 woman, how are they going relate to someone who hasn't even hit their mid 20'S yet. Guess what? They won't.
Put Alyse in a bikini and lets get those ratings up!
I can't quite figure out why so many people on here seem so critical of Alyse and so sure this is a bad move. Alyse is in her early 20's--so what? You say women 24-44 won't relate to her? She's only a few years younger than most of that demographic! If Robyn were still there, she is almost OUT of that demographic, and no one had anything critical to say about her! Give this girl a chance. Forget Alyson--she is gone.

Wow you really got me didn't ya'? Well guess someone should understand the concept of sarcasm and the dumbing down of society. Guess someone didn't get it sorry not a PR person to hand you a press release to read. Yes I WORK in JOURNALISM. Sorry you didn't get me there. I have also met people that thrived as journalists too with other majors but they at least minored in it, mostly English majors though. So sorry you are not getting me there either. You won't win this argument with me so take your Philosophy degree and analyze someone else. Trying to make yourself feel better about being inadequate in the field isn't going to work with me. Leave the REAL journalism to the grown ups.

I'd suggest an English degree. And by the way, I AM a journalism grad, working in the field. Went to Mizzou, one of the finest journalism departments in the country.
I don't have a problem with Alyse really. It does suck that someone was just handed the job and didn't work their way up in the newsroom to earn it..I'll get over it. What I really hated was how the news was broken to the staff. Through this site! I wish Alyse's family would have had the respect to keep it a secret until after the press conference. Her new coworkers shouldn't have had to hear it from other station.
What? That is how I got the news of Alyse too. I thought it was pretty shitty of people to let the news get out prematurely like it did. I heard Alyse's dad was calling people to tell them the news and then it got back to the newsroom at channel 11. I bet her producer and Tom and Melissa were the last ones to know. They could be happy though. Her crown will boost the ratings for a few books.
I am stunned by the jealousy of adults. Why can't you be happy for somebody instead of picking her apart? Embarrassed to work there now? Really? I agree with you. The people who are complaining on here are not the "Facebook viewers." I think they are reporters who think they should've been next in line for this job and were bypassed in favor of Alyse. So she didn't "work her way up." Why is it that people don't say this stuff about men when they jump up several notches on the career ladder? Alyse is beautiful, poised, and warm: she is exactly what that show needs. If you are bitter or feel you weren't given your shot, or you're "embarrassed to work there," then update your resume and move on!

LOL ... well good for you. Bow down the worthy one. LMAO really? I'll take my work and state, regional and national awards as well as those that work under me over anything that you produce, so as someone that has actually done real journalism calling me a moron is actually one of the nicest things anyone has ever called me. Thank you for that. That made my day. And like I said earlier, leave the real journalism to the grown ups.

7 and 11 are going head to head on the morning show. 7 would be better if they got another morning producer to help out. If they don't get help QUICK, the only one they've got will be gone. It's just not right to make one person do the whole 2 and a half hours. The 7 asst. news director is setting him up for failure.

well i heard that the AP that 7 had for helping out on the AM show is more concerned with her little weekend outlook that she does on friday mornings. when the old ND was there, he built her up to be more concerned with on air and she let her ACTUAL job duties slide.

The girl is stunning. I don't know how she'll be on-air but I could definitely get uses to waking up to her face every a.m.!
