You are right 9:51, Derek Ruscin is losing out on waiting on opportunities while KNWA, unbelievably, cuddles up with Bo. Good luck Derek!

Didn't KNWA sue Bo for breach? Now they let him back in? You had a good one in Derek. Bo is an assclown.

The Morning Rush? Did they steal that from B 98.5?

Bo only does the occasional grunt work that none of the rest wants to do. and yes, he is an assclown

Derek is a great guy that will do a great job! He would have been a much better choice for the 1-4pm slot at The Buzz. Bo SUCKS!! Get Ruscin or bring back Rome Acri (another assclown).

Oh, how cute, Fort Smith bashing.

Ruscin is going to work at a 100,000-watt FM station with the biggest coverage map in the state. Of course, he'll be working with Tommy Craft so that's a drawback.

At 6:08 AM, August 01, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

RUSCIN WILL ROCK THE RADIO LIKE NOBODY'S BUSINESS.... if you've ever talked to the man in person, anyone knows he's the perfect personality for radio. Good luck man!

Derek, you were always too good for the way you were treated at KNWA. I wish you the best of luck. I hope your talents are appreciated and rewarded in this new endeavor, as they should have been at KNWA. You're a class act, buddy!

Ruscin is awesome. I worked with him for quite a while, and never had a dull or unfunny moment with him.

I'm sure they're paying him a lot more money, and he completely deserves it. Easily one of the best sports guys this area has seen in a while.

At 6:04 PM, August 01, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Derek,if you are reading this, watch your back and prepare to deal with Tommy Crafts ego, handle that and you will do fine.

At 9:48 PM, August 01, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I worked with him, and he's one of the most down-to-earth, normal human beings in the business. Nice kid, works hard, doesn't bitch about what you ask him to do, and he has a sense of humour. He'd be a great person to work for, or work with. One of the nicer guys in the business. Good luck, buddy.

Um, I've read this poor sap's sports blog, and I have to say it is really bad.

He doesn't write anything to back up his offbeat opinions. He sounds like a jaded nut. Why he is employed as on-air talent anywhere is beyond me. It doesn't matter if he's in NWA or New York City. The guy is awful, and he's not incredibly talented. For a guy like him to get rewarded with his own radio show is ... well ... it's not a bright move by the employer. Let's put it that way. This poor Ruscin kid is a hack compared to real professionals. He has a lot to learn.

100,000 Watts doesn't mean much when nobody is listening. Fall '07 Arbitron: KTTG 1.9. Just enough to be able to sell and keep the lights on. You'd think they'd do better in the fall while running Razorback football.

Add up all the egos that post on this board, combine them into one...

And you still haven't gotten close to the size of Tommy Craft's ego...

Derek... good luck.. or maybe Godspeed is the better term...

When writing one's opinion do you have to have facts?? I thought opinions were thoughts and summations and somttimes can be entirely random. Derek will do good and will be fun to listen to

Derek is a good guy. He's not a back stabber or jaded, he's actually honest and quite funny. I'm glad he will be utilized in a real role rather than an over glorified photog. It's about time someone gave him a chance to step up. Way to go Derek!

I doubt that. The station with the 4th biggest signal in the country is based in Fayetteville, though.

did anyone see the awkward moment last night during Pig Trails? Aaron threw it to Derek to report on a Razorback b-ball story but the video to accompany his story was messed up (they were having technical glitches all night) so DR had to ad-lib most of his story and looked uncomfortable. He threw it back to AP, who made a comment about that being one of the hazards of doing live TV. Derek made an off the cuff comment to the effect that "I'm glad I won't be having to do that anymore" and then they cut to AP who threw it to commercial and he didn't look happy about DR making his comment about leaving. I don't know if they announced that Derek was leaving on air and in many cases they don't mention departures but it seemed like a pretty uncomfortable moment.

Why does Tommy Craft have an ego? He has never really done anything spectacular, that I know of. Could it be the fact that he refs high school games? No, should not be that. As far as I know, he has always worked at loser stations. Hmmmm-makes one wonder.

if you need to change your opinion, then you don't know Tommy Craft.

At 6:05 PM, August 04, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tommy Craft looks at the rest of the world the same way people on this board in NWA or LR look at Fort Smith.

At 10:35 AM, August 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I just wanted to give Tommy or his supporter the chance to prove me wrong. My opinion still stands. Not that impressed.

At 3:03 PM, August 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know Tommy personally and he is a nice guy!! I don't know where this ego talk comes from but I suspect from a former employee. I think anyone in media is entitled to a little ego because every time they screw up it is magnified but no one is quick to tell them what a great job they are doing. Just part of the job.

At 4:39 PM, August 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Absolutely nothing wrong with ego. Tommys problem comes from using a management position to prop himself on the air. There is no way someone else would hire Tommy to do a talk show. He is supposed to be a general manager. If you know him personally you know how much time he spends on air, at Razorback practices, road trips and filling in on other shows. Nice guy with an ego in the way.

At 5:54 PM, August 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tommy also keeps the station's biggest advertising clients for himself.

At 11:03 PM, August 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

From what I hear, not too many big advertisers left for Tommy these days.

At 9:32 AM, August 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

He has a general managers paycheck and a focus of being an on air talent. The position is used to get himself a bigger platform, he hopes with the Razorbacks.

Derek Ruscin is easily the strangest person I have ever met.

At 11:11 AM, August 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

the end of his last live segment on camera was a bit bizarre and he allowed himself to show a bit or either immaturity or unprofessionalism. I generally thought he did a good job, he just seemed like the kid that wanted to thumb his nose at the principal on the last day of school.

At 3:13 PM, August 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"From what I hear, not too many big advertisers left for Tommy these days."

Depends on whether you count all the trade-outs.

I wonder if Derek will get to use a loaner car from a Ford dealership like Tommy.

Ratings are out! We're finalizing buys for the fall and---

Well, let's just say that Tommy's new country music station burned out in impressive fashion. What's it called again? "The Rebel"?

That's cute. Maybe now they should just call it "The Pink Slip." Not hard to see this coming.

Hey....

I don't appreciate getting trashed on here with comments about how I posted negative stuff about Tommy Craft, when I never even knew this board existed until about twenty minutes ago.

I find it hysterical that ALL these negative remarks have surfaced without my insightful input. Turns out that former employees are not the only people who think TC may be an ass clown.....( .... there's a dead giveaway for you!)

The ratings are out. The Rebel was trounced in the ratings by a new rock station that wasn't even up and running during the complete book. But they do have a nice truck for doing remotes...that no one is listening to......

KERX - Men 25-54 and a 0.4 average rating with a 2.3 share and tied for 13th? But that sure is a purty truck!

The pitiful ratings for ESPN will only get worse, given they are now the "exclusive" station for the Randy Corn Dog and Ricky Sunshine, especially since it's going head-to-head with a real sports show now.

Derek Ruscin is a good guy and a decent talent. Too bad he's hitching his star to the Titanic!

First up, you're barking up the wrong tree. I don't run around posting anonymous comments about anyone without leaving at least a tale tell sign of who I am unlike some internet "tough guys" I know). I get paid to write for a living. When I hand out stuff for free, I at least want some recognition.

Secondly, you don't want to start up with me here or anyplace else that doesn't protect your inbred hind end the way woopiggie does....Mess with me in the open and you'll go down quicker than To.... naw ...that's too easy.

Payback, there's no such thing as a "real sports show" in Arkansas. They all suck. The best you can hope for is your show sucking less than the rest.

Payback, how much does it cost for somebody to go down in Fort Smith? Based on court records, you'd know the going rate.

At 10:02 AM, August 08, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I beg to differ. You may be right about things sucking to this point, but there is a viable alternative to the Searcy Sonic Blast now......

I would urge you guys to at least give the new Huddle a listen. Sports Hog 103.1 4-7 p on live on the internet at www.fortsmithradiogroup.com....

That Josh kid is a damn Yankee, but he's trying........

"There's no such thing as a real talk show in Arkansas. They all suck."

I don't know about that. The new afternoon Huddle show with Josh Bertachini actually sounds really, really good. Not that the bar around here is set all that high, but it definitely sounds like a national program, except for ol Jimmy popping in everyone once in a while.

Caught the show on The Sports Hog on day two and have been listening online as much as I can. Great move by Pharis!

Original post said Ruscin will be the "main host".....

LOL. He better take a gun to work his first day and kill ego boy, b3cause if he doesn't it will be the "moring Rush with TOMMY CRAFT and derek ruscin/

At 10:56 AM, August 11, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's funny. Ruscin told me to listen for him on the radio today, so I did. He came on the show and said he was happy to "take the reigns" from Tommy. Then Tommy immediately said "it's nice to have you here as my new co-host." I bet Ruscin was a little surprised...

Just another day in the messed-up, ego-driven life of Crazy Tommy Craft.

At 5:53 PM, August 11, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Any chance Tommy Craft lets Derek do the show with that other guy?

At 9:04 AM, August 12, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No. Tommy will continue to prop himself up until he gets a big job with the University of Arkansas. This will not allow him to take a back seat to anyone until that occurs. After he uses the radio station to achieve that goal he will then allow someone else the spot light.

At 1:05 PM, August 12, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You're right about Tommy trying to get in with the U of A. He's been after a position there for years. But it'll never happen. They just don't think he's very good. I tend to agree.

At 4:55 PM, August 12, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

why would tommy want to work at the uofa? he couldn't line his pockets via tradeouts that he uses for his personal benefit any longer and his buddy who owns an ad agency wouldn't be able to funnel accounts to him.

Apparently yes, Fort Smith has teeth, radio and people that can read...and probably spell unlike many of you bozos who have nothing to do but make stupid comments on this blog. Derek Ruscin will do a fine job at ESPN Radio because he is very talented! The only shame is that we will no longer be able to see his beautiful self on KNWA! Good luck Derek!

Why do ya'll say the Ruscin kid won't listen? Does he actually think he's goin to take over hosting the morning rush? Is this arrogance or ignorance?

Derek Ruscin is a breath of fresh air for radio listeners in Fort Smith. I would dare to say he is the Michael Jordan of sports radio.

At 10:14 AM, August 16, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Alright, Derek, calm down now. Comparing yourself to Michael Jordan, huh? I like the swagger.

But Michael Jordan wasn't born overnight. He had to practice for ten years to become the basketball player he did. And you have ZERO talk show experience. And now you're Tommy Craft's sidekick, and he's awful on the air.

Still think you're Jordan? Maybe the one who got cut from his JV team in high school.

At 11:11 PM, August 16, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dude, I hope Ruscin's communication skills see some improvement otherwise he'll SUCK at radio as he does most everything else. Have you tried talking to the guy?

At 11:21 PM, August 16, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I know what you mean...He does not communicate with people he communicates at people. He thinks he is the only one who is right...he is full of himself.

At 11:26 PM, August 16, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I couldn't have said it better myself 11:21. He's definitely full of himself and awfully cocky to be so young and uneducated. Tommy Craft will definitely put him in his place. It should be interesting. What do you'nes think 'bout Bo Matingly?

At 9:50 AM, August 18, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bo works hard, but his ego is just as big and he is looking out for only Bo Mattingly. It is still hard to believe that KNWA is going to use him after what he did to them and at the expense of alienating honest, hard working and loyal members of the KNWA sports department.

At 7:22 PM, August 28, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So what do y'all think of the morning rush so far now that Ruscin is on there?

At 7:39 AM, August 29, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This by far the best morning show in the state. The sports talk combined with the chemistry between the two hosts makes for a great morning starter.

At 2:51 PM, August 31, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Definitely agree that it's the best sports show in Arkansas

At 8:50 AM, September 01, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ruscin puts on a "radio voice" and misspeaks a lot. To be expected from a guy with no radio experience. Give him a few years though, he may be okay yet.

Craft puts on a "radio voice" and misspeaks a lot too. To be expected from a guy with no radio talent. Give him a few years, he'll still suck.

There's no chemistry whatsoever on this new "new and improved" morning rush shtick. Of course, there wasn't a heck of a lot of chemistry on the old "new and improved" rush show either!

At 11:54 AM, September 04, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Personally, I pity poor Derek, because he an get good as hot chocolate on a rainy day, and the show is still going to suck because of Tommy "By God" Craft.

The other sports station in town took away the only reason to listen to the Morning Rush when they lured Josh away.

Pharis has countered with a retro Marty Houston/ Scott Faldon combo called "The Starting Line-Up" which is essentially a one-hour version of the old "Morning Huddle". (Minus Ernie Witt Jr.)

That show's kind of like an old shoe. Comfortable. It moght not be the prettiest shoe in the closet, but it fits pretty good and is something you can count on. Just wish it was more than an hour.

Tommy sucks, Mark is trying. Marty is Marty and Faldon is Faldon.

It's a wash. I'll be listening to "The Starting Line-up" just because Tommy is such a tool.

At 12:13 PM, September 04, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh...there was "chemistry" on the old Morning Rush, it was just like someone was mixing chemicals that were never meant to be mixed.

People who criticized Josh for his part in the on-air "break-up" are slowly started to find out the real story behind the scenes.

Josh's new show is IMHO as good a anything in the state. He has great takes, solid guests and knows his stuff. Maybe a little too much Otis, Jimmy needs to be phased out or back and he needs to quit picking on Canada (just joking)!

At least it's not chili coneys and onion rings from the Dumas Sonic, Tire Store and Intermational Airport.

If you don't like Tommy that is fine but I have heard the show for two weeks now and it is by far better than it was with Josh . I have heard his new afternoon show and quite honestly it sucks! It was Wed. before he was done rehashing the last game. What a waste!!!

At 3:01 PM, September 04, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Josh's show rocks my world. Lots of phone calls, loads of information. And hosted by a guy who actually follows sports. He's pretty freaking good guys!

You don't have much of a world do you? Worst show on the radio . Only trailing two other shows in the ratings. Who cares about Oklahoma State football or the Mets for that matter

At 10:39 PM, September 04, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree too!! the morning rush is the worst show on radio. But there are no ratings out on Tommy's new old show until January.

At 7:00 AM, September 05, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

How much worse can the ratings be? With Josh 1.9 ?? Tradio got a better rating than the show with Josh on it>

"If you don't like Tommy that is fine but I have heard the show for two weeks now and it is by far better than it was with Josh . I have heard his new afternoon show and quite honestly it sucks!"

Unless you're related to Tommy Craft, that's the most asinine pair of statements I have ever heard in my life.

No way this Morning Mush is as good now as it was with Josh. And the new afternoon show with Josh is setting the new standard for local talk sports radio in the state. Granted, the competition isn't all the good to start with, but Josh is head and shoulders above the rest of what is out there.

It's okay to have an opinion, but in your case, ignorance is bliss.

Bertaccini is the only professional sport talk host we got around here. I started listening to Josh when he was Barrett's fill in a while back. Impressive knowledge, never stumbles or stutters, very smooth. A little cocky, but he's definitely cool. He bought me a beer in Fayetteville once!

Bo Mattingly's probably second these days, by default. No personality or knowledge, but at least he finally stopped getting busted for DWIs!

I still miss Chuck though.
