KNWA Morning Anchor on Leave

An emailer sends this in: A week or two ago wanker Tom Yazwinski started to co-host the KNWA
morning show with one of my favorite news babes Kelly George. Yesterday morning the show comes on and the Yazzer says that Kelly won't be on for awhile and that's she's taking a leave of abscence. Any idea what's up with that? Doug Currin was a big flop in this spot as well. I hate it when they put dudes in the morning slot.

Maybe, just maybe she has Air Guard duty for a while? BTW, I like Doug Curring in the morning slot.

and doug never wanted the morning slot anyways. he was just filling in when barksdale went awol.

Where is Barksdale? Is she in northwest arkansas or back in central arkansas? What is she doing?

THE YAZZER is an great reporter. He would be a good counterpart on the am show.

she's not that good anyways...Tom is by far head over heels above ANYbody up at KNWA...his personality is a perfect fit for the morning show, good move for once by KNWA

Too bad they hired the beauty queen. She's not that bright, isn't a great anchor and she also looks like she fell asleep in a tanning bed after getting a spray tan.

I like Yazzer.

I like Doug Currin, too. I really miss seeing Alexa Hamblin, though. I wish KNWA hadn't let her leave!

At 1:33 PM, April 09, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, Alexa was fun to watch. I liked her anchoring and her reporting. Kelly is boring and looks bored. Currin is somewhat entertaining. I don't know about Yazwinski as an anchor. I prefer him as a reporter.

At 1:36 PM, April 09, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like a female on the morning show, but the only ones that have worked at KNWA were Hamblin and Sargent way before her. Barksdale was a flop, Kelly George is a flop. I don't really want to see a guy in this slot. I agree with the original poster.

Leave of absence for Kelly George? Sounds suspect. Is she getting the boot? I hope so.

At 2:17 PM, April 09, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kelly was never meant to be an anchor. Not a good fit. The former news director and GM are the "brains" behind that decision.

At 2:44 PM, April 09, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And that's what everybody said when she was hired...despite all the posts from Kelly, her family, and friends about her "military journalism experience," and her "gorgeous good looks." Typing up Air Force press releases and being a beauty queen do not an anchor make.

who cares if kelly george is dumb as rocks and can't anchor? she's hot!!!

too bad for her, i bet she made more money typing up press releases.

Oh, please. Don't worry about her. According to her she makes more money than Oprah and has offers pouring in all the time.

Put Courtney Timmons and Kelly George on the same show and you will capture most of the viewers.

Kelly is about as much of a "weatherperson reader" as anyone in the state and knows news too. Courtney can handle the sports segment with no problems.

I want to know how Broyles feels about some blonde with ZERO experience taking away his anchor chair? 5News management should be ashamed of themselves. Even Tara Campbell anchors better than the blonde. I'm surprised Broyles hasn't thrown his hands up and quit over this. He helped that weekend show become the success it is, the number one weekend news show around.

SHAME ON 5!!!

Nice to hear from you at 6:07, Kelly. Most males AND females in this market were working on-air as reporters and/or anchors and producers while you were typing your press releases and parading across the stage. Build up your own qualifications if you want, but don't try knocking others, because it isn't true.

Not Kelly, but why don't you read the post again and see if you can grasp the meaning of what was written.

Okay, I will explain it. I was stating that MOST MEN, and MOST WOMEN in broadcasting in this state have never served their country as a member of the armed forces, much less become a broadcast and print journalist as she had done on top of being a talented lady in the civilian world. How much time have you given your country in your lifetime?

At 2:10 PM, April 12, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

1:26 PM, April 12, 2008

This must be one of her many former boyfriends talking. She is not smart and has very little, if any, talent. Someone thought she looked good and figured she could read, so it would work. Let's be honest, she is hardly even a reader. Everything sounds like one drawn out sentence. She may be a nice person, but she is not a journalist and never will be one. She is a novelty item.

At 2:55 PM, April 12, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

1:26, you might not be Kelly, but you are, as the above poster stated, one of her friends or a family member. When will you get it through your head that nobody in broadcast journalism CARES that Kelly served her country? That is not important or relevant in terms of how she does her job as a broadcast journalist. I think you're the same idiot who posted here when Kelly was hired, with your crap about her serving her country. Listen carefully: WE DON'T CARE. And as for what she gave her country...the Air Force paid her very well and gave her enough time off to be a beauty queen, and she used the whole "Air Force beauty queen" thing to promote herself. So who gave what to whom? She is a crappy anchor with a bad sprayed-on tan. You yourself are not in this business, you don't belong on this board, so crawl back into your patriotic hold and leave us alone.

At 10:15 AM, April 13, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Listen carefully: WE DON'T CARE. And as for what she gave her country...the Air Force paid her very well"

No, never even met her, but you are a coward that has never served a day in the military because you don't have to. You want other people to provide a safe place for you to live without it costing you a minute of your own time. You should be ashamed of what you said about being paid well. You just don't get it, do you. It's time that you give in the service of your country. You probably don't even put your hand over your heart during the playing of the National Anthem. Do you even know the words? Typical broadcast journalist and you don't even have to know how to spell correctly as do print journalist. What are you, a camera jockey?

At 1:24 PM, April 13, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Calm down, old fella. The nurse will be around with your meds in a few minutes.

At 2:16 PM, April 13, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm sure we all respect the military and what they do, what they die for, e.t.c. No one here is saying anything disparaging about her being in the military. And, people saying "You haven't served in the military a day in your life" are probably correct about most of us.

That doesn't change the fact that her military career has nothing to do with how good or qualified she is to be a broadcast anchor. It really doesn't matter how many months or years she's been in or will be in the ANG... she's not a seasoned, experienced broadcaster or even an experienced journalist. She's never had to report, or find a story, or follow a story, and dig leads... and it's pretty shameful to put her in a prominent position at an anchor desk without it. And it's not just a Kelly George thing, or a KNWA thing... it's happening everywhere.

In other words... all of you brainless flag-waivers should take a seat while the grownups talk.

At 2:22 PM, April 13, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's exactly the point I was making when I posted at 2:55. Kelly's military career means nothing in terms of her qualifications as a broadcast journalist. She is a terrible anchor, and she is not a journalist. It doesn't matter how many years she racked up in the military. But idiots like 10:15 will never listen.

At 2:41 PM, April 13, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hear you and I agree. She is not a journalist.

You want a journalist? Lets talk about that. The other night the storm was hitting and where were the journalist. The weather people were showing us radar and where were the reporters and anchors. In the building and under shelter. Who was sent out in the elements....photographers. Call yourselves whatever you want but reading emails from viewers and showing pictures is weak and you should not be running anyone down for being a so-called journalist.

That's hard to believe they would send anyone but the main anchor? WOW!! I can't believe I'm about to say this but they delivered on the night that the community needed them since the other two stations were not viewable during a lot of the storm.

If any of you people at KNWA or any other station in NW Arkansas were any good you would be working in a lot bigger market, say, LR.

Hardly any of you would even qualify for radio news reporting.

Not a lot of NW stations being carried in the center of the state. Keep working.

Doesn't the center of the state already have tv stations? Why would they need nwa stations broadcast there? Get off your high horse, you'll get a nose bleed with it that high in the air. Roll over, kiss Kelly and tell her everything will be fine.

Ya know, I'll probably get quite a bit of hell from the Rockians for this... but there are so many people in NWA that could easily work in Little Rock. Easily. I've been offered a few jobs there and have turned them down, honestly, because Little Rock sucks.

I'd rather work in NWA for a few years and leap-frog LR for some nearby, larger markets (OKC, Memphis, NO...) Just because we DON'T work in Little Rock doesn't mean we can't. LR, just like all the markets in Arkansas, are starter markets. Face it.

At 1:31 AM, April 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow, I've really been enjoying this thread. I'm a journalist, and served my country in the armed forces as well, for a number of years, and in a war zone. I have to agree, the military training doesn't give a person much in terms of the realities of civilian journalism, and it sure doesn't translate into an anchor job, unless the person served on the desk at DINFOS or some other place. I'm sure she's a nice gal, and I'd never talk down her service - it just sounds like she's having a tough time cutting it in an industry that's much rougher on the civilian side than in uniform.

At 6:52 AM, April 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

How about letting Derek Ruscin come to Little Rock?? He and Nolan would be good together in sports.

To the above poster who believes that there are plenty of people in NWA that could work in LR...GET OVER YOURSELF...I travel frequently between the two and have not seen one person in NWA that could make it in LR....completely different crop of people up there...it almost has an air of ignorance everytime I watch it...like a bunch of College kids got together to put on a newscast....good luck at your leap frog buddy....

the posts about the storm coverage is bs. while 5 and 40/29's weather people were on air telling people to take cover knwa was showing deal or no deal. i got tired of watching storm coverage so i watched deal or no deal. thank you knwa.

At 10:32 AM, April 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dude, Memphis isn't much of a leap from Little Rock. They're about one and the same. If you're bragging about Memphis and OKC, well, that ain't much to hang your hat on. And Little Rock looks a whole lot better on a resume than where you're working. You should have taken the LR job, if indeed it was even offered to you.

At 10:43 AM, April 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You know what 11:33, I'm not finished.

You could have worked in LR.

"Could have done" and "doing" are two completely different things. Doing is much harder. In this business people look at what you do, not what you could have done. No one cares about what you could have done. What are you going to say when you interview in all of these better markets? That you could have taken a job in LR but you turned it down? Good luck impressing people with that. Get your head out of the clouds rookie and grow up.

At 10:44 AM, April 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have to disagree with comments about NWA reporters. Mallory Hardin was one of the worst reporters in NWA, and she easily got a job in Little Rock.

Most of those NWA reporters can work in Little Rock and have an easy transition.

Where was KNWA when the storms producing tornadoes were moving across Washington county around 4:30 a.m.? An EF-2 tornado was causing damage in western Washington county, and Skoff and crew where nowhere to be found. 40/29 was on overnight covering those particular storms, but you would think KNWA being NWAR News would be sounding the alert!

You came on late from the start of the event, and then you dropped the ball and never finished; your NWAR viewers are quickly seeing through your transparent gimmick.

Well, that's your opinion. Even morons are entitled to have one.

I've seen several people move from NWA to a larger market. And yes, Memphis and OKC are much better markets than LR. Aside from being larger, their equipment and (most) talent are superior. LR is a starter market, just like NWA, NEA, and ArkLaTex. People in Little Rock need to get the hell over it.

As for storm coverage... whoever said 40 and 5 were off the air during the storms must be smoking something. 40 was off the air in the South, but was on in the North. 5 never met off air for more than a few seconds due to lightning hits at the station. Both stations went wall-to-wall when the storms were still in NEO... 5 left air around 2 a.m., 40 stayed on for a few hours after that.

Both did admirable jobs covering the entire area, and both had people in the field (I know Donna Brag reported from outside... next to her totaled car. 5 had two reporters covering the storms all night and into the next morning). KNWA couldn't touch the coverage from either station.

Actually she probably learned not to look because when you're in a position where people look at you, people talk. No one talks about the losers, just winners. Most of the anchors minus Sarge read these boards because they're above them.
She's above some competitors morning crews bashing her on the board. Don't hate and go back to work. She's here, she's on a contract, she's staying. Then she'll move up in the market you'll all eat her dust.

Karen Fuller started in Little Rock. Kim Miller started in Little Rock. It's possible to start here, but you have to have your act together to do it.

Kim went on to great success, and she was good with English. Nice girl.

But I wouldn't give Little Rock a blanket label like "starter market." Many have to work their way up even to Little Rock. And that's usually the best way to go!

"You NWA folks are morons.. Little Rock a starter market? Please.. Market 57 is not starter idiot.."

Make up your mind. Are they morons or idiots? Do you know which of the two is smarter?

Thought not.

Just to bring this dumb discussion to 100 posts, I have the answer.

A *MORON* is someone whose IQ measures between 50 and 69, while an *IDIOT* is someone whose IQ measures less than 25.

While it is difficult to tell which is more stupid, it is true to say that a MORON is more intelligent than an IDIOT. Generally speaking a MORON could probably do basic tasks like driving a car, but there is a probably that either a MORON or an IDIOT could be prone to drool all over himself or herself (based on circumstances).

Just to be difficult..where does a "dolt" rank in the equation?

Karen Fuller interned in Little Rock. I think it was KARK, and I think her KATV bio said she got a story on the air as an intern. That qualifies as starting in Little Rock.

With a right turn at the Pentagon for an internship, of course.

Karen Fuller interned at KARK. She started as a paid employee in Mason City, Iowa. She was then hired by KATV as a reporter and later an anchor when Gina Kurre left for St. Louis. So in this case, Little Rock was not a starter market for her. It was Mason City. A small market much like northwest Arkansas. Just stating the facts.

Hey 9:00pm, April 16, 2008,
"is there anyone hot at 11?" Are you blind!!!
Meredith Mitchell is the hottest tv personality in the region. She would blow everyone away in a thong contest!

Meredith Mitchell is antithesis of hotness...don't get me wrong, she's cute...but there are PLENTY of other hotter women in this market than MM

The only reason Little Rock is a 50s market is that the viewing area covers almost the entire damn state.

As far as a real CITY...LR ain't even close. More like a large TOWN. Same thing with OKC. The only thing that makes OKC big market material is their weather coverage, and with the storms they get, it definitely isn't a starter market.

Memphis is a 40s market because the city itself has the population to support its ranking, not counting the surrounding Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Missouri counties.

I wouldn't call LR a starter market, but it isn't of the same caliber as other markets comparable in size.

you'd bet wise to keep your money in your pocket. besides, the payment on your Yugo is due soon

At 1:55 PM, April 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Funny you should mention it but I just sold my 1988 Yugo for $15,000 which is five times what I paid for it new. It was a great car and only had 25,000 actual miles on it.

It was fully equipped to include air conditioning and radio.

At 2:58 PM, April 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yea but what was the gas milage on it??

At 8:20 PM, April 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Less than the 90 model Corsica that I had at the same time. The Yugo got about 21 MPG, the Corsica got got about 27 MGG as I remember.

Word to the wise. If you own a Yugo, do not under any circumstances remove all four wheels as the same time as you usually do for a tire rotation while you are getting the oil change. If you do, you will be in for a big surprise. Word to the wise.

You would really like what you are seeing if Meredith Mitchell was one of the two anchors in the am!

7:21 you're out of you're damn mind.

Little Rock metro area is over 500,000 with a thriving downtown -- that's a city my friend..

OKC's metro area is 1.3 million.. Not a real city I guess?

You NWA folks kill me.

Yeah, but OKC is like back in the 60's with their laws.

"basically Ar-Kansas is backwards."

I guess that's why the NCAA is holding basketball regionals here, which draw people like Pat Riley and Phil Knight.

I'm sure the Clinton Library, which has been visited by a few presidents, major network news anchors, U2, John McEnroe and other movers and shakers, is another reason why Arkansas is so backwards.

Wal-Mart makes Arkansas look backwards too. So does Tyson and Alltel. Wow, what small-time companies they are.

Dude, think before you post what you post.

other than the OPENING of the clinton library how many of these big timers have you seen frequent the halls that make up the CL?? exactly

and in what way do these companies make arkansas look unbackwards...

just because arkansas isn't exactly old-fashioned now doesn't make the with the times when it comes to everything...how bout you think before you post
