Mattingly Returns to KNWA

This from a tipster: KNWA has re-hired Bo Mattingly as a freelance on-air analyst. He premiers Thursday night at 10:00pm. The guy breaks his contract - leaving the station in a lurch for
football season. Then Nexstar sues him for breach - drops the suit after a couple of months - and then puts him back on the air?!!? What are Brian Jones, Mike Vaughn and Brook Thomas thinking????

Typical Bo.... Doing the wrong thing and somehow getting away with it, then ending up looking smart. Yeah, management looks stupid on this one, but in my experience, people like Bo get their due. Sooner or later, he'll get what's coming to him.

If someone gets this question correct, then try this one. Why do we still have Wally Hall?

you are kidding me.....

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FRIGGIN KIDDING ME!!!

just another on a long, long list of reasons NOT to watch KNWA

that little twit is nothing more than a Bulldog Brisco wanna be!

shows me that management believes aaron can't carry the thing on his own so he needs help.
this totally undermines aaron's credibility. he does a fine job all year and now he isn't doing enough so they bring this guy back? sounds pretty shady to me.

what do the co-workers think?
nice to know most of the newsroom staff were last to know.
what about little rock..did they agree to this

What are they thinking indeed, who receives the most benefit from this arrangement, Bo or KNWA?

At 10:30 AM, March 14, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

word is his radio show is on life support. Also doesn't KNWA have a new general manager? Let's be honest, their coverage hasn't been as good since he left.

Bo is not returning as an anchor. Just an analyst.

At 11:22 AM, March 14, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

let's face it KNWA isn't any good anyway...I hope Little Rock had nothing to do with this because this is a complete farce! I would love to see the like of Pat, Aaron N, or any of the reporters pull that kind of BS Bo did and see if management lets them back on air...bad form! Of course this is the kind of thing you would expect from the Razorback Nation

Yeah every time I listen to Bo Nuttingly he is always running a commercial or trying to be funny. Who listens to that show? Between Rick, Bo or Arnell I don't who annoys me the most.

At 5:48 PM, March 14, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm guessing by last you mean some total news rating. Razorback Nation is hands down the best product in either market. Compare that and it's far from last.

At 6:09 PM, March 14, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Now the presedent is set -- Nexstar contracts means absolutely nothing. You can break them all day long - even get sued by the company for breaking them - and less than a year later be invited back on their air.

Shows just how newbie Vaughn and Thomas are. Can you tell they've never run a station or a newsroom before?

Bo is back. Back again. Hog Nation can celebrate. He's back again. Bo is back.

Bo is the reason KNWA became number one. He built a solid foundation. The rest of the crew kept it going after he left.

At 8:51 PM, March 14, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

sure if keeping it going means no personality, crappy video, and for God's sake tell those morons how to use the macrofocus...i don't think i've ever seen a player they've interviewed clearly

At 9:36 PM, March 14, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow you sure watch a lot!

At 11:54 PM, March 14, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You don't need macrofocus on for those player interviews. Maybe they actually have it on and are focusing on the roadkill on top of Mike Irwin's head?

At 12:01 AM, March 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I watched when Bo was on with Aaron and he was obviously the anchor in charge. I'm not sure why Bo is on there except to supply extra insight maybe??? I that's the case and that's the only reason then I think it makes a lot of sense. He has great insight and last I remember had some pretty good contacts. If it is what it appears then it looks to me it's a great move. I guess we will see. I'll hold on passing judgement until we see how things develope.

I got to disagree with all the nasty backtalk about Mickey at the station. Despite all the talk she only makes $35k this year and $38k in year 2 so she isn't getting paid that much. As far as all the expensive crap she flaunts my guess is she's got a sugar daddy.

At 10:43 PM, March 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here is something to think about. Who knows that much detail without making it up? ND, Mickey and the GM. Sounds like someone is making stuff up. Big surprise? What a joke.

At 11:05 PM, March 15, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I thought KATV was "The" Razorback station. They took having the game on their station for granted and didn't even have their live truck there. The others were prepared for all that took place. THV had really good coverage and the whole statewide thing with Razorback Nation was a huge advantage. I believe KHBS from Ft. Smith had their truck there too but I'm sure that KFSM was handicapped as well not having a truck. Sorry LRT I didn't get to see any of your coverage.

At 10:29 AM, March 16, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

35k??? That's very high end pay for this market. But unlike the beauty queen or Sarge, Mikey actually paid her dues and worked hard for the anchor spot she got. In my opinion she could have gotten a better job.

Mickey's not all that. Her weekend crew isn't that wild about her.

Besides, 35K isn't that high for this market. It just depends on what station you work for. There are reporters who make more than Mickey.

"I don't care for Bo but you can't say that Irwin is beating anyone"

This must be from someone at KNWA. Because they don't get Neilsen.

When Mustain signed with the Hogs viewers turned to Mike 12 to 1 over "Razorback Nation". Even with Bo standing on a phonebook and shouting out questions live he still can't touch Irwin.

1) Do I understand it? No.
2) Is he beating RN? No. He's kicking their ass.

Prove it! The numbers are for the newscast not sports. I don't know one person who would rather watch Mike than Mark or Aaron. You have to be kidding me.

KFSM is KING!

Daren Bobb is best male anchor!

Bridget is best female!

Jared Broyles is best overall!

Frank Wiley is best reporter!

Russell Jones is the best newcomer!

We have the best talent in the market and it shows.

At 12:07 AM, March 21, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You should go to bed. You are so tired you can't think straight.

At 1:16 AM, March 21, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Here's how you judge which stations creates the best talent. Look at all four stations. Look at all the reporters and check out where they get their next jobs. Mallory Hardin does not count in this category on grounds of nepotism (she still sucks). Lasure left the businss, Broyles got demoted has sent out a crapload of tapes without getting anywhere. Whitney Ray went to a similar sized market. From what I've heard, that's not the case with the 40 crew.

The good reporters get better jobs in TV news, leave market 102 and work elsewhere. KFSM does not have the best track record for that, and plus, they've got Mike Irwin to deal with. His toupe wears their newscast down enough.

At 1:54 AM, March 21, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KNWA has the best anchors and reporters. None of them wear hairpieces

At 11:54 AM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

From what I can see.....There are extremely few at any of the so-called "television stations" here that could last for any real length of time at a larger market. And with the way they are run....it's no wonder that there are so many looking to jump ship and even leave the business. Hell I'm one of them who had a job interview with a non-broadcast related organization this week. It's better money, hours, benefits, and a more professional atmosphere.

Each and every one of you need to get over yourselves and realize thatt the viewers don't give a rat's ass about all of this. What they want from a newscast is simple. They want to know if it's going to rain tomorrow, not all of the how's, why's and what it's doing in other states and countries. They want the score of the game, not all the analysis, and why one coach is leaving or staying, etc. And unless they know someone in a particular news story, it would have to be another terrorist attack before they give a damn about the news segment.

All the fancy effects, camera shots, skycams all over creation, reporters live in the field just so you have a background behind them if all a complete waste of time, energy, manpower, and money. None of that really matters at all in the grand scheme of things.

At 8:13 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

WELL SAID!

but KNWA does have the best talent.

At 11:00 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Number one, this market is not a large market, so stop with the comparisons. If the ad money was the same in this market the look would be different.
Just throwing out basic information does not attract viewers and at the end of the day, that is what we are trying to do, the presentation separates the men from the boys.
if you are jaded by the business, because you are not moving up, get out and do something else.

At 12:34 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KFSM is a such a clear winner its not even funny. Tara Campbell is the next star.

At 3:33 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

First....I'm not jaded because I'm not moving up. I have the resume to work in damn near any market I want to. In fact I have top 10 market experience. I'm only here due to family obligations (which should always come before any employer). So stop telling me what I should do. My career is moving along just fine thank you very much. But I still stand by what I said. And, just for the record, most of the things I mentioned came from viewers, not just my personal opinion. I won't say which station I work for, but suffice it to say that I honestly feel (from watching all of them) that none of them are better than the others. I've seen all make stupid mistakes with stories, format, and delivery.

My final thoughts....all the "talent" should get over themselves, all the management should treat and pay their people fairly, and treat the views with intelligence instead of dropping to the lowest common denominator.

Derek Ruscin Rocks!

At 8:55 AM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Courtney Timmons should come to the Little Rock market and top out the ratings for the station that hires her. Best in state, maybe region as she knows her sports and has a professional delivery.

speaking of Brian...what all of a sudden inspired him to want to be on-air?? and wasn't there some other guy like during high school football that some stuff too?

At 1:24 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brian needs to stay behind the camera.

At 9:23 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's right. Stay in the box you are in, never try and do anything else. Those opportunities to expand yourself are reserved for others. A cameraman wants to step out on try on air work, what is he thinking? Get back where he belongs and leave the "talent" to those who believe they are most qualified.

At 1:33 PM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"I'm not jaded because I'm not moving up. I have the resume to work in damn near any market I want to. In fact I have top 10 market experience. I'm only here due to family obligations"

Riiiiiight. You're the only top ten market talent working here, everyone else is below that standard, and it is because you want to be here. ooooohk.

At 11:55 AM, March 30, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Stop putting words in my mouth. I never said anyone else here was below top 10 market standard. If you will look I said that none of them here are better than the others. I also never said that I was the only one around here with Top 10 market experience. I would never say that because I don't know that for a fact. Maybe you should be checking your facts before making judgements. Didn't you learn that in Journalism 101?

It is a fact that I moved to a smaller market due to family obligations. I think it's sad that you find that so hard to belive. Family should always come first. Having said that, my family and contract obligations to this area are coming to an end and I am actively pursuing a better opportunity. In fact, interviews and meetings have already taken place.

So my advice to you is to go and spellcheck your stories, confirm your sources, and most importantly, rethink your priorities. Good luck in your career.

The "stay in the box" comments crack me up. There isn't a station in the market (probably in all of Arkansas) doing anything even remotely original. Its the same old stuff you see in every other market in the country.

Besides, people have been talking "outside the box" for 20 years now. Doesn't that mean that "outside the box" thinking is really now inside the box?

At 11:26 PM, April 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bo Mattingly is a waste of time. He is laughable. Why not keep him on? I need a good chuckle at someone else's expense. His commentary is on the same level as my 8 year old daughter. Watch out Bo, if she starts drinking now, you could have some competition.

At 10:10 AM, April 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Read the post a little more carefully. The "In the Box" is not referencing news philosophy, but rather earlier posts that suggest that Brian Edmenson never try anything else other than be a camera man.

At 3:54 PM, April 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Don't waste your time reading back through. People at KNWA are always talking about thinking "outside the box" so your comment was valid anyway.
