I hope not. He's one of the best people 4's got.

I agree. I like the way he tells the weather. He makes the weather fun. I always thought they should put him in mornings.

I like him too. He made the job fun.

It might take a very long time to get a met because your standards are too high and little rock is a small market. Who would take a pay cut just to work down here at this little bitty place and then get chased out.
I won't be surprised if these ignorant morons would hire a reptile.
Matt is one reptilian too much.

Jason is awesome! He and Sonsearseeh have a great rappore. He really keeps her on her toes. LOL!

Aw man, is he really leaving? Where is he going? Even my folks think he is a breath of fresh air. We all thought he is way better than just weekends at kark. Sucks for them.

i think he's too corny, not very funny, i thought dan skoff was good over there but he left for NWA last year. only met in LR worse than kadeh is tom brannon...as a whole LR has a lot of good news/weather/sports people compared to larger cities so they're doing something right in hiring.

At 8:03 PM, February 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ooh, sour grapes.

At 9:06 PM, February 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

OH, PLEASE. Skoff had NO personality, and thus, perfect for Northwest Arkansas. Kadah is meant for bigger and better things.

At 9:10 PM, February 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think guys like Kadah and Brannon are great because they know weather but also know how to inject some fun and personality in their presentations. There are very few out there who can pull that off.

At 7:33 AM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey 7:41 Tom Brannon has been in this market for at least 10 years and has been an integral part of the THV morning show which has been number 1 for a good chunk of that time. If people didn't like the show or him for that matter, they wouldn't watch, and he would be out of a job. Jason Kadah is also very entertaining by making things interesting and fun to watch. Both know their weather, both have their seals which confirm they know what they are talking about. Kadah is buried on weekends. He will be going to a larger market as a morning weather anchor or even a chief somewhere. There are those viewers out there which don't have a sense of humor (like you) or a sense of anything for that matter! KARK has it all wrong. Mike should be the chief and Brett should be out!

At 8:54 AM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"I think guys like Kadah and Brannon are great because they know weather . . ."

What you mean is that they know how to read the forecast from the professional weather people at the Weather Bureau and change it just a little to make it seem that they are doing the forecasting. It's just a show.

At 9:24 AM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I will acknowledge, that used to be the case when you just had weathercasters in this market. Since they all have their meteorological degrees, they actually do the forecasting themselves. To do that, they look at many computer models to help them. Of course, just one source of information is the National Weather Service. By the way, they don't call it the weather "bureau" anymore. Actually, the National Weather Service forecasts are usually not as accurate.

At 9:26 AM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sadly, with US budget cuts.. The National Weather Service doesn't have as advanced meteorological equipment as the local TV stations.

At 9:34 AM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Tom is actually a very good meteorologist. THV just promotes the hell out of Ed and doesn't give Tom credit in that regard....thus your perception of Tom is otherwise. He has been so successful here, he couldn't be as bad as you say. The problem with THv's idea of only promoting Ed for weather is what happens if Ed leaves? You have lost your one and only. They put all their eggs in one basket and it is a risky way to promote.

At 9:40 AM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I've never been that crazy about Ed "I have beautiful eyes" Buckner. Hated the way they said the whole world is going "Ed crazy" when he first came to the station.

At 12:29 PM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Folks, Tom Brannon is one of the hardest working people I have met in this business. I've seen him worry himself to death over making sure a forecast is right. You may think he's silly for his Breakfast with Tom antics or some of the other stuff he does, but he'll be the first person to call off a live shot if there's even a chance of lightning.

He also works hard on a number of special projects -- projects that are about caring and sharing, not about promoting himself or his station. The incredible amount of work he does with Special Olympics and the Arkansas Foodbank Network would be enough for one full time job -- he does it while also handling his weather responsibilities. He's dependable, trustworthy, and a hard worker.

It bugs the hell out of me to see stuff posted that indicates he doesn't pull his own weight. Maybe you just don't see it. Which is why I figure you probably need to know.

At 12:33 PM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't know Tom personally, but I know people in the business, and they all have nothing but good things to say about him. I like watching him in the mornings, and yes--there's a good bit of goofiness, but that's all part of the morning show format. When it comes to doing his job in weather, he is great, and I have always gotten the idea that he takes weather very seriously.

You can't be serious? Do you really believe that the National Weather Service forecasts are usually not as accurate? They are actors that read the weather and then tell the viewers what they think will happen. Are you an adult?

At 7:55 PM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They are meteorologists. They are not weathercasters. This isn't 1978. The days of Tom Bonner and Vic Schedler are long gone.

At 7:56 PM, February 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If you don't believe the National Weather Service forecasts are less accurate, judge for yourself. I have.

They are all actors, including the talking heads. They put on a thirty-minute show. If you had ever worked in a tv station you would know that.

No weatherforcaster in this state will ever have as much name recognition as Tom Bonner and Vic Schedler had.

At 10:57 AM, February 24, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And there will never be another Gusty!

At 11:06 AM, February 24, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I believe the last weatherforecaster to draw "Gusty" was Ron Sherman. Again, a very popular tv personality that has no equal in today's LR market as Sherman is probably the only person in the LR market that could do a "live", one-minute commercial without cue cards or a teleprompter.

awesome? great rapport (not rappore)? he stinks and I'm glad he's leaving. A weekend met in a small market and still didn't stand out....he'll be lucky to do mornings in upstate new york by the end of his career.

Why doesn't KARK run the ad in a crawl during the news like a weather bulletin?

To bring a level of sanity back to this discussion... is it possible they're advertising for a weekend MORNING position? (After all, they don't have a weekend AM show now, so they may have one in the works.)

i've worked with jason and he's great. doesn't have a attitide and is cool and is so friendly with everyone. he's my favorite weatherman at kark.

KARK sould hire Meredith Mitchell from the weekends at KTHV, if they wanted to increase their ratings- she is the hottest tv personality in the region.

At 11:41 AM, February 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

you must be joking right? please tell me you're kidding.

At 12:09 PM, February 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

for starters Meredith is NOT that hot...second off Kadah is going back to the West coast i think in Washington somewhere (spokane maybe) he's definitely the most entertaining met. LR has...everyone else is pretty bland and just gives you the weather, Jason would jazz it up when everyone KNEW what the forecast would be...he'll be missed

At 12:30 PM, February 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Meredith, hot?she has a big ass going for her. Sorry to see Jason leave. Tom Brannon, you are the man, besides doing a great morning show, the food bank and the special projects, you my friend have learned a lot from that guy you work with. BJ, like yourself, does everything with class. Good luck Jason.

Meredith is better looking than Anne Pressley, Jessica Dean, Joan Early, Robyn Richardson, Dawn Scott, Anne Jansen, Christina Munoz, Jancey Sheats,Louisa Druoet, Betsy Pigrim, Kim Miller,Carol Copeland, Kelly Minton, Carolyn Long etc.,etc., all put together.

Mike sucks.

Mickey, honestly, why the hell do you insist on inserting yourself into every blog, even the ones that have nothing to do with your station? We know you are trying to drum up hype for yourself, but it's seriously pathetic. I'm embarrassed for you.

9:06 PM

Skoff has personality for days. I love him and I'm glad he's here in NWA! We were lucky to get him, and hope to keep him.

At 2:03 PM, February 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I second that. Anyone who thinks Skoff is a bore has obviously never met him or watched him on TV.

At 2:48 PM, February 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh, I have watched Skoff, and I'm still drowsy from those dreadful "Around the House" liveshots he used to do.

Glad you like him, NWA. You can keep him.

Dan is nice but he is not as awesome as Jason and never had as good a rappore with Sonsearseehy and never really kept her on her toes. No hard feelings Dan. LOL!!

No offense to Jason, but it seems Brett and Mike know a little more about weather overall. That being said, Jason is great on the air and is the most personable of the three. Mike just tries way too hard and watching Brett is like watching paint dry.

At 4:40 PM, February 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well I guess poster 1:36 is on drugs. Meredith is not hotter than all those combined. Especially not hotter that Jancey Sheats. You are either high or blind, bub

At 4:54 PM, February 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Jancey Sheats is as flat as an ironing board and has the personality of one too.

Not to mention the "nasal" twang. Sounds like from the Wyoming area.

And they, like the other "personalities" on local tv, are wannabe actors . . . and that's okay.

Dan Skoff is THE WORST!!!!

But who cares cause he's in NWA now. Those must be some bored hillbillies!

Hard to tell when their weekday morning show starts and the informercials end. Man, those "interviews" with the eye doctor, the proctologist and the Internet dating service are really news and exactly what the viewers tune in for. Hellooo!

I don't even think she even has a degree in meteorology.

At 2:00 PM, February 26, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

" . . . don't even think she even has a degree in meteorology."

Like that makes someone on tv a weather forecaster?

At 5:04 PM, February 26, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well then sh@t hook what does make a person a forecaster? Someone that works at the weather bureau?

What do YOU consider qualifies someone to be a forecaster? If a degree, and both the AMS and NWA seals aren't good enough, then what is good enough? Please tell us so that we will know for future reference.

Consider this, the folks at the NWS have degrees as well, are they qualified hot shot?

What makes a journalist a journalist - A degree? What makes an anchor an anchor?

Since you are so on top of the world and your sh@t doesn't stink then o great one please do tell!

I don't have much of a formal education but I can converse without using profane language. I think that you made my point with your post.

At 8:24 AM, February 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mike is the WORST forecaster in the market. On Tuesday, he said there was a 40% rain chance Friday, 20% Saturday then clear.

Wednesday, he said 20% chance from Friday through Tuesday. Huge differnce!

There is no reason to watch his weather. He can't predict more than 24 hours ahead.

The last time I saw an ass as big as Meredith's, it had a saddle on it.....

There is no reason to watch his weather. He can't predict more than 24 hours ahead.

Wait a minute. There is one poster on this forum that thinks the tv weather forecaters' forecasts are more accurate than the National Weather Service's forecasts. If they were, don't you think that the NWS would hire them to do their forecasting?

At 11:02 AM, February 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

TV pays better than the weather service.

At 12:19 PM, February 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually, I had a 30% for Friday.... then 20% through Monday. Now it is just 20% for Friday through Monday

That is what my forecast reads right in front of me..... Would you like to ask me any questions anonymously from behind that desk?

Matt the cheir photographer need to be shot.

At 4:07 PM, February 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

5:54 - No, I think you made my point with your answer. "Lack of formal education." You can't tell me or anyone else because you don't have the capacity to. Your lack of a formal education inhibits your ability to tell me why a degree, two seals and various professional meetings and conferences doesn't make for a television weather forecaster. By the way, "Sh@t hook" is not profane. You just don't have an educated answer to the argument. Now I would say "I told you so", but I'm not. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt in this regard because you have no idea what most of the TV meteorologists must go through in order to earn a degree, their seals and position at a television station. Let's agree to disagree and move on. This blog is about Jason K. from KARK. He is good at what he does, he continues to work on his Seals, he attends weather conferences hosted by the NWA and AMS. He is/has done the things that will ultimately add to his credibility.
Good Luck Jason.

Jason Kadah is leaving KARK for KREM 2 in Spokane Washington (DMA#77). Jason will be the morning and noon meteorologist at the CBS affiliate. He should be on the air at his new station in June.

At 10:45 PM, February 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think Jason is from California but his wife and her family are from Spokane (or maybe it's the other way around?). Sorry to see him go, but it sounds like a good move for them. That tv station definitely scored.

What does he do that isn't?

At 1:04 PM, February 28, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mike is good at pimping storm radios. He should sell umbrellas, since, we can't depend on his forecasts. Wednesday, he said there was a 20% chance of rain Saturday. Thursday, he said there would be no rain Saturday. Sounds like TWO DAYS in his limit in predicting the weather. They should drop the 7-day forecasst... or just call it a 7-day Guess !

I'm just a viewer and don't have an insight into the real qualifications of the weather people but I do think Jason and Mike are the goofiest pair on TV. Jason is just so lame and Mike is always trying to be funny but fails miserably. And what's up with those weird accents? Just give me the weather! And I don't want to hear about your family or how little sleep you get. This is a career you chose, so do it like a prefessional without bellyaching. Your're supposed to be helping us start our morning and it's really a downer to hear the morning people whining all the time. Just give me the weather and shut up. Sorry, just had to vent.

Sadly, if I want local news it is channel 4, or Jason Harper (UGH!) and the redneck trending channel 7, or the comatose channel 11 morning show. I want information, not entertainment. The early morning news show on CBS preceding cannel 11's morning show is my ideal.

Wow, (just one of the public), sounds like you are one tough cookie to please. You don't seem to like anyone or anything. You are the type of person who a) needs a hug, and b) needs to stick with the internet for news.

Funny, 11's morning show has consistently been number one for years. No significant drop off when Robin left either. I'd hardly say they're comatose. But then again everyone has their P.O.V. That comatose distinction should be applied to KATV.

At 8:19 PM, February 28, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Those eye doctor interviews, etc. appear on a sales show later in the day. Not on the morning show. Every station has a sales show. KATV is Good Morning Arkansas and that 11:30 show. KARK has showcase at 11:30 and KTHV has one around their noon show too. All of those shows suck.. but hey, that's what happens when sales gets involved.

For those of you in the business that haven't figured it out yet, Sales rules.

Pretty soon, all stations will be airing crawls and posting logos in the fringe areas of the picture. NBC has gotten to the point of placing a promo over their NBC logo during primetime shows.

That's right. I get tired of people on a certain morning show that think they are political experts and try to discuss topics that are WAY over their heads.

KARK Channel 4, soon to be only KARK Channel 32.

Not to change topics but... this John Glasgow mystery. Has anyone read the latest info from Arkansas Business? Is it possible that a prominent local business family made him vanish, covered it up, planted his car at Petit Jean and made it look like what it is now? Any thoughts?

I got a good idea fire the cheif photographer and the upper mgt staff and they will have a good station instead of a tabloid tv trash.

Mike,

All we desire is ACCURATE forecasts about three days out. Don't labor on the seven-day forecast. That is beyond you and most weathercasters. But with three days notice, then we can plan for a weekend, ballgame or cookout. We don't care hearing about your squalling kids. We don't want to endure you flirting with Beantown Babe or bantering with Rev. Matthew. We don't care about your new tie or what you did over the weekend. We don't care that you had to wake up early to do a morning poduction. We can buy a weather radio without your guidance. Just try to get the WEATHER right. That is your job. Or so we thought.

Too right.

At 4:37 PM, March 05, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Turn the Channel! Or better yet, turn off your set!

At 8:55 PM, March 05, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

God, what is WRONG with you people?

I can understand the comatose comment for THV and its morning program. It was once pretty funny -- everyone had one-liners, and they seemed to be in a good mood. But now it's like they just report in to work to do whatever drivel they're told to do.

At least KARK can spell things right in the morning.

At 10:58 PM, March 05, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

FOX 16 had the best winter weather coverage this week. Hands down.

At 8:00 AM, March 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So if we are forced to turn off our sets, for lack of good weather coverage, where do we go for accurate weather forecasting?

Do it ourselves ?

At 6:29 PM, March 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Okay, at 6pm tonight (Thursday), KARK says that Central Arkansas will receive 7 to 10 inches of snow, maybe more, by Saturday.

KTHV says that the system may break apart and not dump near as much as expected by Saturday.

Let's see who gets closer to getting this one right.

At 8:46 PM, March 06, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So if it snows 6 inches in little rock does that mean KARK was wrong?? Does that mean KTHV was right?? Does an extra inch really matter?? (Insert Joke Here!!).

At 7:01 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, yes. One or two inches don't matter but read this. Apparently KTHV got it right because as of 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning, Little Rock has NO snow at all on the ground. Not even a flake. Looks like KARK missed this one. No snow at all.

If you don't believe it, look out the window if you live in LR or better yet, turn on the TV and tune to KTHV or KARK.

BTW, I don't work at either.

Mike Francis: Annoying AND wrong!

At 9:05 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Seems like someone is obsessed with Mike Francis. Knows everything about him, what he does on and off air. Wow!

At 9:09 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mike is the one who tells us about his family life. He's supposed to be a weather guy... not a talk show host.

At 9:10 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KARK was wrong about the snow. Exactly. Mike needs to quit flirting and start trying to predict the weather. Just read the NWS forecast. Something !

At 9:37 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

But someone one here said recently that the tv stations had much better equipment than the NWS and the tv stations always were more accurate.

If the tv stations did not have access to the NWS info they would have to guess at the forecast.

At 9:39 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think it's pathetic that so many of you revolve you lives around down talking people. I mean if your main concern in life is what a certain weather person or news anchor looks like or says then you've got some major self building issues. These things are sometimes informational and sometimes funny, but get over yourselves. Everyone knows that to get an accurate portrayal on what's happening in the world you must take in several widely different perspectives and then make an individual decision. Plus, lots of the people your badmouthing are really nice folks... maybe you should try talking to them...

At 10:13 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't think that people that post on here are pathetic. It's a freaking blog and last I checked there was still a little freedom of speech left in this county.

I think that most of the Weather folks in the market should get on the air and apologize to the viewers for just being plain wrong and making such a big to do about nothing.

Your post makes little sense. Nobody said these tv personalities werent'nice people. We are discussing "missing" the forecast. Please don't make more of this than it is. It's just a weather forecast.

At 11:27 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ALL WE WANT as viewers is to have a pretty good idea of what the weather will be like -- three days in advance. I don't care if you do it with a crawl at the bottom of the screen. We don't need a personality. We just want an accurate forecast.

At 11:41 AM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The only difference between the tv stations and the NWS is that the television people can get their guesses to you quicker.

Why doesn't some station do their weather forcast from the NWS. Man, that would be great during "Book" time.

Oh! Oh! Maybe someone was planning on doing that and the cat is out of the bag.

At 1:51 PM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who says KARK or the other stations had it wrong?Look outside now! This was a major snow event. 14 inches in parts of the state. That was predicted and that's what happened. Francis said the snow would arrive after 6:00 am on Friday and it did. Obviously you just have something against Mike. By the way, every station said we were going to have a heavy snowfall.

"Francis said the snow would arrive after 6:00 am on Friday and it did. Obviously you just have something against Mike. By the way, every station said we were going to have a heavy snowfall."

Nothing against KARK, just stating facts. KARD just said there would be much more than what we got. KTHV said we would not get as much as earlier predicted. They got this one right, KARK did not. May be the other way around next time.

What's the big deal?

Next time why don't you DVR it so you will know what we are talking about and be able to review what was forecast.

At 3:37 PM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"Francis said the snow would arrive after 6:00 am on Friday and it did."

FWIW, there was no snow on the ground in LR at 6 a.m. on Friday.

He said it would be here AFTER 6:00 am.

As I understand it forecasting snow can be tricky. When I stood in our newsroom on Thursday watching ALL 4 stations at 5 and 6pm there was only slight differences in all forecasts (really only 1 to 3 inches between all stations and slight diffences on where the greatest amount of snow would fall). I was home Thursday moring but didn't catch the morning met forecasts, so I can't comment on what eveyone was predicting on the morning shows.
When I watch Mike Francis he can come across a goofy. But he's got energy and I don't think I can deny the man knows what he's talking about...especially when he's tracking tornado producing storms.

KARK is the weathor station I trust. When Merdeith Mitchel or Mecinda Mayo help me with my weather radio at Kroger, then I'll reconsider.

At 10:40 PM, March 07, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If you listen to the 24 hour-a-day broadcast on the radio, you don't need any one on tv to tell you what the weather is going to do.
