It might take a very long time to get a met because your standards are too high and little rock is a small market. Who would take a pay cut just to work down here at this little bitty place and then get chased out.

i think he's too corny, not very funny, i thought dan skoff was good over there but he left for NWA last year. only met in LR worse than kadeh is tom brannon...as a whole LR has a lot of good news/weather/sports people compared to larger cities so they're doing something right in hiring.

OH, PLEASE. Skoff had NO personality, and thus, perfect for Northwest Arkansas. Kadah is meant for bigger and better things.
I think guys like Kadah and Brannon are great because they know weather but also know how to inject some fun and personality in their presentations. There are very few out there who can pull that off.
Hey 7:41 Tom Brannon has been in this market for at least 10 years and has been an integral part of the THV morning show which has been number 1 for a good chunk of that time. If people didn't like the show or him for that matter, they wouldn't watch, and he would be out of a job. Jason Kadah is also very entertaining by making things interesting and fun to watch. Both know their weather, both have their seals which confirm they know what they are talking about. Kadah is buried on weekends. He will be going to a larger market as a morning weather anchor or even a chief somewhere. There are those viewers out there which don't have a sense of humor (like you) or a sense of anything for that matter! KARK has it all wrong. Mike should be the chief and Brett should be out!

What you mean is that they know how to read the forecast from the professional weather people at the Weather Bureau and change it just a little to make it seem that they are doing the forecasting. It's just a show.
I will acknowledge, that used to be the case when you just had weathercasters in this market. Since they all have their meteorological degrees, they actually do the forecasting themselves. To do that, they look at many computer models to help them. Of course, just one source of information is the National Weather Service. By the way, they don't call it the weather "bureau" anymore. Actually, the National Weather Service forecasts are usually not as accurate.
Sadly, with US budget cuts.. The National Weather Service doesn't have as advanced meteorological equipment as the local TV stations.
Tom is actually a very good meteorologist. THV just promotes the hell out of Ed and doesn't give Tom credit in that regard....thus your perception of Tom is otherwise. He has been so successful here, he couldn't be as bad as you say. The problem with THv's idea of only promoting Ed for weather is what happens if Ed leaves? You have lost your one and only. They put all their eggs in one basket and it is a risky way to promote.
I've never been that crazy about Ed "I have beautiful eyes" Buckner. Hated the way they said the whole world is going "Ed crazy" when he first came to the station.
Folks, Tom Brannon is one of the hardest working people I have met in this business. I've seen him worry himself to death over making sure a forecast is right. You may think he's silly for his Breakfast with Tom antics or some of the other stuff he does, but he'll be the first person to call off a live shot if there's even a chance of lightning.
He also works hard on a number of special projects -- projects that are about caring and sharing, not about promoting himself or his station. The incredible amount of work he does with Special Olympics and the Arkansas Foodbank Network would be enough for one full time job -- he does it while also handling his weather responsibilities. He's dependable, trustworthy, and a hard worker.
It bugs the hell out of me to see stuff posted that indicates he doesn't pull his own weight. Maybe you just don't see it. Which is why I figure you probably need to know.
I don't know Tom personally, but I know people in the business, and they all have nothing but good things to say about him. I like watching him in the mornings, and yes--there's a good bit of goofiness, but that's all part of the morning show format. When it comes to doing his job in weather, he is great, and I have always gotten the idea that he takes weather very seriously.

You can't be serious? Do you really believe that the National Weather Service forecasts are usually not as accurate? They are actors that read the weather and then tell the viewers what they think will happen. Are you an adult?
They are meteorologists. They are not weathercasters. This isn't 1978. The days of Tom Bonner and Vic Schedler are long gone.

They are all actors, including the talking heads. They put on a thirty-minute show. If you had ever worked in a tv station you would know that.
No weatherforcaster in this state will ever have as much name recognition as Tom Bonner and Vic Schedler had.
And there will never be another Gusty!
I believe the last weatherforecaster to draw "Gusty" was Ron Sherman. Again, a very popular tv personality that has no equal in today's LR market as Sherman is probably the only person in the LR market that could do a "live", one-minute commercial without cue cards or a teleprompter.

i've worked with jason and he's great. doesn't have a attitide and is cool and is so friendly with everyone. he's my favorite weatherman at kark.
KARK sould hire Meredith Mitchell from the weekends at KTHV, if they wanted to increase their ratings- she is the hottest tv personality in the region.

for starters Meredith is NOT that hot...second off Kadah is going back to the West coast i think in Washington somewhere (spokane maybe) he's definitely the most entertaining met. LR has...everyone else is pretty bland and just gives you the weather, Jason would jazz it up when everyone KNEW what the forecast would be...he'll be missed

Hard to tell when their weekday morning show starts and the informercials end. Man, those "interviews" with the eye doctor, the proctologist and the Internet dating service are really news and exactly what the viewers tune in for. Hellooo!

What do YOU consider qualifies someone to be a forecaster? If a degree, and both the AMS and NWA seals aren't good enough, then what is good enough? Please tell us so that we will know for future reference.

Mike is the WORST forecaster in the market. On Tuesday, he said there was a 40% rain chance Friday, 20% Saturday then clear.
Wednesday, he said 20% chance from Friday through Tuesday. Huge differnce!
There is no reason to watch his weather. He can't predict more than 24 hours ahead.
The last time I saw an ass as big as Meredith's, it had a saddle on it.....

Wait a minute. There is one poster on this forum that thinks the tv weather forecaters' forecasts are more accurate than the National Weather Service's forecasts. If they were, don't you think that the NWS would hire them to do their forecasting?

Your lack of a formal education inhibits your ability to tell me why a degree, two seals and various professional meetings and conferences doesn't make for a television weather forecaster. By the way, "Sh@t hook" is not profane. You just don't have an educated answer to the argument. Now I would say "I told you so", but I'm not. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt in this regard because you have no idea what most of the TV meteorologists must go through in order to earn a degree, their seals and position at a television station. Let's agree to disagree and move on. This blog is about Jason K. from KARK. He is good at what he does, he continues to work on his Seals, he attends weather conferences hosted by the NWA and AMS. He is/has done the things that will ultimately add to his credibility.

Jason Kadah is leaving KARK for KREM 2 in Spokane Washington (DMA#77). Jason will be the morning and noon meteorologist at the CBS affiliate. He should be on the air at his new station in June.

I think Jason is from California but his wife and her family are from Spokane (or maybe it's the other way around?). Sorry to see him go, but it sounds like a good move for them. That tv station definitely scored.

Mike is good at pimping storm radios. He should sell umbrellas, since, we can't depend on his forecasts. Wednesday, he said there was a 20% chance of rain Saturday. Thursday, he said there would be no rain Saturday. Sounds like TWO DAYS in his limit in predicting the weather. They should drop the 7-day forecasst... or just call it a 7-day Guess !
I'm just a viewer and don't have an insight into the real qualifications of the weather people but I do think Jason and Mike are the goofiest pair on TV. Jason is just so lame and Mike is always trying to be funny but fails miserably. And what's up with those weird accents? Just give me the weather! And I don't want to hear about your family or how little sleep you get. This is a career you chose, so do it like a prefessional without bellyaching. Your're supposed to be helping us start our morning and it's really a downer to hear the morning people whining all the time. Just give me the weather and shut up. Sorry, just had to vent.

Sadly, if I want local news it is channel 4, or Jason Harper (UGH!) and the redneck trending channel 7, or the comatose channel 11 morning show. I want information, not entertainment. The early morning news show on CBS preceding cannel 11's morning show is my ideal.

Funny, 11's morning show has consistently been number one for years. No significant drop off when Robin left either. I'd hardly say they're comatose. But then again everyone has their P.O.V. That comatose distinction should be applied to KATV.

Are you talking about KARK or KATV?
Those eye doctor interviews, etc. appear on a sales show later in the day. Not on the morning show. Every station has a sales show. KATV is Good Morning Arkansas and that 11:30 show. KARK has showcase at 11:30 and KTHV has one around their noon show too. All of those shows suck.. but hey, that's what happens when sales gets involved.

Pretty soon, all stations will be airing crawls and posting logos in the fringe areas of the picture. NBC has gotten to the point of placing a promo over their NBC logo during primetime shows.

Sonny can do whatever Sonny wants. She is the queen of the weekend for Little Rock along with the rest of the state of Arkansas. Also, Aaron Nolan is the best sports personality in the state.

All we desire is ACCURATE forecasts about three days out. Don't labor on the seven-day forecast. That is beyond you and most weathercasters. But with three days notice, then we can plan for a weekend, ballgame or cookout. We don't care hearing about your squalling kids. We don't want to endure you flirting with Beantown Babe or bantering with Rev. Matthew. We don't care about your new tie or what you did over the weekend. We don't care that you had to wake up early to do a morning poduction. We can buy a weather radio without your guidance. Just try to get the WEATHER right. That is your job. Or so we thought.

I can understand the comatose comment for THV and its morning program. It was once pretty funny -- everyone had one-liners, and they seemed to be in a good mood. But now it's like they just report in to work to do whatever drivel they're told to do.
At least KARK can spell things right in the morning.
FOX 16 had the best winter weather coverage this week. Hands down.
So if we are forced to turn off our sets, for lack of good weather coverage, where do we go for accurate weather forecasting?

Okay, at 6pm tonight (Thursday), KARK says that Central Arkansas will receive 7 to 10 inches of snow, maybe more, by Saturday.
KTHV says that the system may break apart and not dump near as much as expected by Saturday.
Let's see who gets closer to getting this one right.
So if it snows 6 inches in little rock does that mean KARK was wrong?? Does that mean KTHV was right?? Does an extra inch really matter?? (Insert Joke Here!!).
Well, yes. One or two inches don't matter but read this. Apparently KTHV got it right because as of 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning, Little Rock has NO snow at all on the ground. Not even a flake. Looks like KARK missed this one. No snow at all.
If you don't believe it, look out the window if you live in LR or better yet, turn on the TV and tune to KTHV or KARK.
BTW, I don't work at either.

I think it's pathetic that so many of you revolve you lives around down talking people. Your post makes little sense. Nobody said these tv personalities werent'nice people. We are discussing "missing" the forecast. Please don't make more of this than it is. It's just a weather forecast.
ALL WE WANT as viewers is to have a pretty good idea of what the weather will be like -- three days in advance. I don't care if you do it with a crawl at the bottom of the screen. We don't need a personality. We just want an accurate forecast.
The only difference between the tv stations and the NWS is that the television people can get their guesses to you quicker.

Nothing against KARK, just stating facts. KARD just said there would be much more than what we got. KTHV said we would not get as much as earlier predicted. They got this one right, KARK did not. May be the other way around next time.
What's the big deal?
Next time why don't you DVR it so you will know what we are talking about and be able to review what was forecast.

FWIW, there was no snow on the ground in LR at 6 a.m. on Friday.
He said it would be here AFTER 6:00 am.
As I understand it forecasting snow can be tricky. When I stood in our newsroom on Thursday watching ALL 4 stations at 5 and 6pm there was only slight differences in all forecasts (really only 1 to 3 inches between all stations and slight diffences on where the greatest amount of snow would fall). I was home Thursday moring but didn't catch the morning met forecasts, so I can't comment on what eveyone was predicting on the morning shows.
When I watch Mike Francis he can come across a goofy. But he's got energy and I don't think I can deny the man knows what he's talking about...especially when he's tracking tornado producing storms.
KARK is the weathor station I trust. When Merdeith Mitchel or Mecinda Mayo help me with my weather radio at Kroger, then I'll reconsider.
If you listen to the 24 hour-a-day broadcast on the radio, you don't need any one on tv to tell you what the weather is going to do.
