Moore to the Anchor Desk?

An e-mailer wants to know..See if you can find out some information on Wess Moore being at the anchor desk last night(Thursday) with Liz Massey for KTHV's 10:00 news. Are they trying him out or was he just filling in for Dawn. Personally, I think it would be a great move to put Wess at the anchor desk!

Wess is extremely well liked. I wonder if they are testing him? Nobody knows, but I also think he's great and it would be a good move if THV moved him to main anchor. I have always really liked him, and my friends like him too. Scott Inman was weekend sports, remember?

I do indeed believe they are testing him. He is a great guy. Very personable. Good luck Wess.

I saw that on Friday night and thought that Wess was subbing for Craig O'Neill, but Craig was there on the set doing his regular duties. One question that comes to mind is could this be like what channel 7 did with Scott Inmon or could it be a money-saving move by having Moore doing a little double duty of news and some sports? I also thought that Wess did a good job doing the news.

Wess is a likable guy, but he's no Scott Inman, and he certainly isn't main anchor material. As Simon Cowell would say, "Sorry."

When the blogger says Wess is well-liked... I'm sorry... extremely well-liked, I have to ask by whom? It's great that everyone in the TV station likes him, but no one outside the station--unless you're a sporty--knows who the hell he is. This would be a bad move unless the station is trying to save some money. Oh, wait--I guess we all know the answer to that one.

Another tip; Wess was hired in Little Rock because of his wife. I'm not trying to be mean. It's just the business.

One would have to wonder is this the beginning stages of having Wess and Alyson/husband and wife, anchoring the 10PM?

Whatever the case, from a management point of view it's always a bad idea to give a husband and wife such importance and power. They can burn you in a heartbeat.

Wess did a great job anchoring. I was very impressed. I think they need to keep him in the main anchor chair. It's refreshing to finally see a male presence there as well. Great Work!

Wess is "extremely well liked" according to research done by THV. Given his wife just pulled a huge rating in the morning show (THV up in the mornings from last Feb, by the way, I'm sure Robin is disappointed) I doubt they have plans to move her.

Let's talk ratings. What about Feb?

Poor Dawn Scott - to be involved with this small market talent at THV - after coming back from Seattle-must be frustrating. Sorry guys, Wes may be a nice guy - but watching him "try" to anchor is very painful.
If Audas thinks he can save a buck - he'll give it to him -

At 6:48 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wes would be a great move for THV. This guy does not need the little woman to help him get and keep an anchor job in Little Rock. He and his wife are both talented and likable folks.

At 6:52 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wes would be a great move compared to some other on air talent that was hired because of ethnicity and money saving prioities.

At 7:31 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not to take anything away from Wes, he'd be a good fit. He has been a main anchor before in a smaller market. However, money and yes, ethnicity do play a part. If Wes moves to become a main anchor, you know damn well they are not going to give him a six-figure salary like Dawn and Anne and what Andy had, so they save there. Plus, it gives Mark Edwards a shot a being a main anchor on the weekend sports and it also give them what Larry Audas wants them to have (via a prominent state senator)- more diversity on the Anchor desk. This move coupled with a raise in Wes' salary (albeit small) and not filling the third Sports position, will save THV in the long run. Unfortunately, it's not about journalism or reporting the news anymore, its about saving $$$$ anyway you can. Wes is very well liked by the viewing public he'd make a great choice for anchor just don't let cheap out on you Wes!

As I understand it, Dawn was mostly a reporter in Seattle, not a main anchor. And she left that job to be a pharmaceutical sales rep. So let's not kid ourselves about how "frustrating" this "small market" stuff must be for her. In terms of money and visibility, this is hardly a step down for her.

At 8:12 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mark Edwards...main anchor on the weekends ? Can you please say "JOKE", "JERK".

You people can't be serious....

At 8:29 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Amen. I can't understand half of what Mark Edwards says. He looks and sounds like he still should be doing urban radio.

At 8:32 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

At least Wess has experience and some personality. He would be much better on the anchor desk than some of THV's other recent hires, like Ebone Monet and Katherina Yancy, who are both painful to watch and listen to. But hey...they probably don't make any money and they up the diversity quotient, and that's all that apparently matters over there.

At 8:55 PM, March 22, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So, from what I've been reading, it sounds like THV has been told to be ethnically diverse?

At 12:53 AM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry folks, but Wes Moore couldn't do a hard news story if his life depended on it. Typical Channel 11 crap. It's more about in-station politics than viewers. THV did research on ol' Wes? I know how that works. Gannett does its OWN research and they can find anything to fit what they want. Their research has been showing for eight years at least that KATV is weak, and they're the best. Maybe their research is more credible than Nielsen ratings show, but that's not what sells the air time. If KTHV was a person, they would be Stuart Smalley. Keep giving yourself a pat on the back and believing in yourself and some day everyone else will notice. If they were a religion, they'd be Scientologist. Most everyone in television suffers from approval-deficit disorder, but THV is chronic.

Eboney and Karherina may bring diversity and people may admire them as minorities for putting themselves out there for the very crical public every day, but shouldn't there be respect for the on air talent who aren't minorities who work hard and keep the ratings up despite the fact that they get passed over, even though their journalism skills are better, because they do not bring diversity ro the market. There are those atTHV who are simply talemted hard working indivivduals who care about the product. Wes is one of those good ole boys.

At 8:33 AM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's true Dawn was not a main anchor in Seattle. She did quit and become a drug rep for awhile, so that means she wasn't happy right? She comes back here to be a main anchor again, instead of a drug rep. It's hardly a step down for her is very true. I want to know why she didn't like being a drug rep. I heard that's a dream job!

At 9:18 AM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey 12:53, KATV the best? I guess you haven't seen the lastest numbers?

10pm News (Market Rating/Share)

KTHV 12/26
KATV 10/22
KARK 7/14
KLRT 6/12 (9 o'clock news)

6-7am News (Market Rating/Share

KTHV 9/29
KATV 6/20
KARK 5/18

The most important newscast are OWNED by THV. The Mornings have been OWNED by THV for 10 years.

KATV the best? By what research, KATV's? True Gannett does it's own research, but so do the folks at KATV. The only thing they dominate is 65 and older. Yes there's a large market there but advertisers are looking at the 25-54 demos of which THV wins AM, 5pm, 6pm, and 10pm. THV must be doing something right.

At 9:27 AM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Diversity reins at THV. There are people that have been given jobs due to their 'diversity' and not their talent.

Yes, they are paying Ebone and Katherina peanuts because they had virtually NO experience and they are quite young, and "it's a great opportunity, blah, blah, blah..." And they have hired yet another young Asian-American as a BP&J. However, she is quite good for her age and very mature - she's a decent hire. A lot of folks don't have a problem with the diversity thing as long as they have talent and can read a script - something severly lacking right now.

At 10:22 AM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wess Moore has worked his ass off in Little Rock as a sports reporter... He deserves anything they give him at THV.

At 11:49 AM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why is THV trying to be so diverse? It seems to me that THV is trying to make all the minorities happy rather than hire the best possible on-air talent. I don't have a problem if a company hires a black person or an Asian person over a white person if that other person is truly more qualified. But if THV is hiring all these minorities just to "appease" certain groups, then thats wrong. Just for the record, I don't think Katherina or Ebone do a good job. Their deliveries are bland and they don't convey much personality on-air. Just my opinion.

At 3:40 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey, look at it this way. Wess does bring diversity to THV, and maybe that's why they are trying him out for the anchor desk. White males are quickly becoming a minority at THV. He will be a thorn among all those female roses in their on air talent pool!!!! You go Wess! This could be a move for all those guys out there.

At 7:23 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why is THV trying to be so diverse? The influence of a state senator who knows nothing about broadcasting but trys to push people around.

At 7:49 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yancy hire was not based solely on diversity, in case anyone forgets, she is co-editor along with her mother of "Hola, Arkansas", which has a relationship with THV. Yancy was a direct hire because her mother was threatening to leave her association with THV and they don't want to make the "ever growing" hispanic community mad in Little Rock by losing that important demographic.

At 7:52 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Bottom line-- Yancy should never of been hired. What happened to starting out in a smaller market and then climbing the later once you've improved? She is not good at all.

At 8:03 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who is this state senator that supposedly has this influence over THV?

At 8:57 PM, March 23, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

As far as Yancy being hired because of her ties to "Hola, Arkansas", here's my take on that. If Hispanics or other groups move into this country, they need to learn our language, not vice versa.

I wonder which station will be the first to "crawl" weather warnings in Spanish?

I can't image how bad your life must be to get on here and tear a good person down.

If Wess got the job because of Alyson he has kept it because he is GOOD at it!

Wess is a great guy. Giving him the anchor chair would be a great idea! It is too bad there is so much focus on the inexperience of Katherina And Ebone. There is a lot of good reporters and talent like Wess and Alyson at THV, but all the attention is on those too inexoerienced girls. I don't think Ebone and Katerina deserve all the attention even if it is usually negative.

I watched Wes Moore last week with interest on the 10:00 p.m. newscast. Like everyone else, I was curious if he was filling-in or trying-out for the anchor position. My opinion is he did a great job.

I came across this blog and began reading other viewer's input and opinions on Wes Moore's appearance. I have to say the post quickly lost interest in Wes Moore and turned to offensive statements about others. It is very evident that the employees of THV are very disgruntled concerning each other. I believe working in the THV newsroom would be equivalent to being thrown to the wolves. Some of the posts are so full of anger and disrespect that I was taken aback.

Why would anyone need to call names or belittle someone other than to make themselves feel superior?

10:54 a.m. - March 23: Your comment comes out of the blue. I don't have a clue who you are attacking, but perhaps you need to make a change in your life - at least take a deep breath. If you carry such hatred toward your fellow employees, maybe you should look elsewhere and find a more rewarding job.

Defamation of character is not pretty THV! Why would you want to injure a person or organization's reputation? - Especially if you are a part of the organization?

Well, I'll say it - the main anchor at noon is just horrible. Period. So is the Positively Arkansas girl.
Has nothing to do with race/equality/diversity - just facts - they do not belong on television in any market.
Wess is not Main Anchor material. Mark Edwards is a PR nightmare waiting to happen.
There are 3 very strong male anchors in this market, Fox, 7 and 4. Wess is not there and not sure he can be.
Audas just can't seem to get it right. No consistency since he's been here. People are tired of the musical chairs.

Alright, you chowder-heads. If you want to bury Wess before he gets a shot as a news anchor, why not do the work of a good journalist, i.e.: research.

I worked with Wess a few years back when he was a weekend NEWS ANCHOR, which came after a nice run as a BUREAU CHIEF reporting HARD NEWS. After leaving KTAL, WESS was a NEWS ANCHOR in Victoria, Texas.

Seems to me, Wess has the peidgree to handle a shift back to news (if that is indeed what KTHV and Wess want), plus---the added bonus of a few years as a sports anchor. And we ALL know sports-guys are the best ad-libbers and live-event reporters in the biz!! Kidding! Sorta.

Its obvious most the people writing in are from 11.

If most of you are writing about how Wes wouldn't be a good anchor yet
he has a background as an anchor and he's good at what he does

than obviously a young 20 something reporter starting out trying their best doesn't stand a chance on here with your comments.

You people are not happy with anyone.

At 9:30 PM, March 24, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

A "young 20-something reporter" should not be "starting out" in a market this size without experience or training. They stick out like sore thumbs because of their incompitence, and then wonder why people "aren't happy" with them. My guess is you're one of those reporters, 9:24. There are plenty of talented folks at THV, and Wess is one of them. Don't lump him in with the "young reporters" you're talking about.

11:43 - Make a change in your life? Find a more rewarding job? Trust me, if that were possible, many of us would. In a lot of cases it simply isn't realistic. Some of these angry and bitter people are stuck in the jobs they hate with coworkers they can't stand because they can't find a better option. I'll wager that every single one of them has tried to find another job only to get shot down, so they're stuck.

And some of us don't belittle others to build ourselves up. It's simply to tear others down regardless of what it does to our own status. Maybe we honestly don't like someone, hence the negative jab. What's wrong with that? All's fair in love and war.

And instead of judging the workers, why don't you judge the work environment instead. It sucks! I mean, look at it. Look at how many disgruntled people there are. What does that say?

Since when does anchoring in Victoria, Texas make someone qualified to be a primary anchor in Little Rock?

Wes is a decent sports anchor but he is not main anchor material. There is more to the job than reading the teleprompter.

At 5:43 AM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It makes a lot of difference especially since he has the experience. Anchors almost always start out at smaller markets and move up. Your opinion is your opinion. There are far more opinions that Wess would do a fine job. You're out numbered.

At 7:36 AM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I personally do not think KTHV has made a mistake with its recent talent hires. Look at the ratings. The public is obviously not complaining. THV is selling a product, and the public is buying. Corporate is in the business of making money, and if the public is satisfied with the product what is the problem? When those who make up the viewing market place stop watching, the quality of the product will change. It is called capitalism. If management can get the public to be satisfied with inferior reporters who are perhaps not ready for the LR market, then that's a smart management move. Why would any company shell out more of the business capital than necessary to make money? Obviously diversity sells over quality. True the talent pool may be weak, but the product is selling, and selling is what matters. There are those at THV who care about the product, and this must all be frustrating to them. Hey someone in this blog who cares about the product was criticized for caring and for being a team player. Unfortunately, none of that matters if corporate is making the cash. Kudos to Ebone and Katherina for taking advantage of a situation that is allowing them to hone their skills in a bigger market. Obviously, they think being paid peanuts is a wise down payment on a better future. Once again capitalism at work. Bottom line-when the public tunes out or turns on to another station things will change. That's American Capitalism at its best! The market place will weed Wess out or embrace him. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

Amazed by what? Who? Gannett is going to have to shake loose some cash if that is going to happen. They would not spend a dime to see an ant eat a bale of hay.

At 12:58 PM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I believe who ever wrote about Katherina and her mom not talking since she took the job.

And I don't believe her mom would threaten the station.

Katherina use to pull up to work in a brand new Mercedes worth more than all the reporters salaries put together.

Now shes driving an older Lexus.

I bet mom took the company cars away. She use to drive the convertible jag too.

Sucks she gave up the good life too try a career on her own.

I wouldn't have done it to sit here and her everyone talk shit about me.

At 1:15 PM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why should Gannett shake loose any cash to see " an ant eat a bale?"

They have the ratings. As long as they have the ratings, it doesn't matter about quality or your happiness. It is a business. They care about making money. They must be happy with business the way it is. The viewing public is happy and so is the company. Get over it and smile. That's how it works.

Gee, I hate to hear that Katherina has to drive an older Lexus. The poor thing. That changes my whole opinion of her. She was hired for the wrong reason, she sucks at her job because she doesn't know what she's doing, and to top it all off...Mommy took the Benz away. Life is just not fair.

How funny...
The numbers came out and Gannett, with all these terrible decisions, based on what the majority of you haters say, has not only gained ground but completely decimated the other stations at the 10 spot and in the mornings. They continue to gain ground at the 5 and 6. So like George on Seinfeld, all they have to do is the opposite of what you guys say and they will be successful. Keep writing and giving THV good marketing strategy.

At 1:33 PM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who cares? I think Charlie Crowson cares! I've watched Ashley Blackstone work, and I know she cares about quality. Quality is paramount with her. Allyson cares about quality. Just look at the morning ratings! If Wess Moore cares as much as his wife, it will help him be successful too. Liz Massey cares. Ebone Monet has stated that Liz is always willing to help her learn. Liz must do this because she cares about THV. Perhaps Ebone is not ready, but at least somebody cares enough about the station to help out the one who needs the help. Neil Sommerlatte behind the scenes cares. I've watched the guy work. He works relentlessly to get it right. Is that enough? One by one you will probably shoot each of these individuals down. Let's see who will be first to take that mean spirited shot.

Plus I really don't think we were hurting for another bpj or day side reporter for that matter.

The photogs needed a new hire and now they're not getting one.

Teach bpjs to run their own live shot since you think they're the future.

I think Ebone has the worse attitude.

She has been in verbal fights with co-workers on numerous occasions and she is so rude.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've heard her curse.

A photographer told me she has screamed in the newsroom and cursed at Aryana on the phone.

I've worked in other markets and never seen or heard of a reporter having such crazy mood swings almost on a daily bases.

Ebone, you don't have a right to act like a Diva. You're not that great.

Is Liz planning on leaving???????

They were trying to write rather than talk, but it was about money being worth -?moving?-

and Dawn said yes.

I could be wrong, but it was interesting.

"It is a business. They care about making money. They must be happy with business the way it is. The viewing public is happy and so is the company. Get over it and smile. That's how it works."

Well, I can say that I have done something that most of the people at that station, including you if you work there, will probably never do and that is retire from Gannett. Believe me, I know how they spend their money. Better get back to work if you are looking forward to a retirement.

Stop whining and just do your jobs. The economy is bad and is probably only going to get worse. Be thankful you have a job and stop complaining. It could be worse- you could be at one of the other local stations where the ratings aren't as good.

Where would Liz go? Back to NE Arkansas? She's not that great of an anchor. (Although she thinks she is) She was given that job because management knew they could get her cheap, just like Win Noble. If she gets more money from another offer, take the money and run! Also, just about everyone has tried the "pay me what I'm worth, or I'm leaving!" card. Alright Liz prove it! If you have another offer, show it to Chuck and Larry and let them give you the bad news... you're only worth 3% like the rest of the folks there. The way things are going at Gannett, you'll be lucky if they offer you a raise at all. In fact I bet they start making folks take a cut in pay to stay otherwise there'll be more of those BPJ's & BPA's (that would be anchors) like Mike Duncan.

Good Luck and have a nice day.

At 6:48 PM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Keep this in mind. Gannett corporate and their board only care about their next multi-million dollar bonus even if it is at your expense. The business is about making money anyway you can, even if it's job cuts. The journalism is cracked, the quality is crap. Get it on the web YESTERDAY! Who cares if the facts are skewed.

At 7:50 PM, March 25, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You guys don't get it. Business is about making money. If you can get a nickel for every cup of lemonade you sell using cheap lemons, why would you go out and buy more expensive lemons to make the same cup of lemonade. If THv can have great ratings with the talent it has, why would they hire more expensive talent. There is no guarntee the ratings would improve. Corporate is not stealing from you. Nobody forces you to work there. If the lemons are better at one of the other local stations, go to work there or some place else. What do you want-govenment owned TV like some countries. Talk about broken.

Regardless of Liz.
I'm sure they'll be signing Wes over to the anchor desk cheap too.

I think Liz is better than Dawn and she is probably making double.

I worry for THV who will fill the sports anchor spot.

Mark Edwards doesn't cut it with the little time they give him now.

I hope they don't try to put Marcus Eubanks in sports. He is terrible.
He needs to stay behind the camera.

..can't find a better option. .........
..tried to find another job only to get shot down
..they're stuck.

It's simply to tear others down regardless of what it does to our own status.
...honestly don't like someone, hence the negative jab. What's wrong with that? All's fair in love and war.

Wow. What a bitter person you are. Maybe there could be an underlying reason why you are not considered by other employers. We all know there is no lower feeling than to be "shot down" after an interview. However, lashing out at others is not going to pick yourself back up. It’s just as easy to be pleasant as it is to be obnoxious. And there are far more advantages to being pleasant, so why not give it a try? Perhaps you are in the wrong field. You may be happier if you were to walk away from the business you are in and try other avenues. Good Luck to you.

8:18,

Actually, I'm considered by a lot of employers. Not every time, but I do pretty good for myself. I'm just justifying all of the backbiting on this thread by trying to elaborate on the negative points of view many express here. I speak from experience, and I know I'm not the only one turned down for a job. These bitter people on here have good reason to post the thoughts and sentiments they post, negative or otherwise. I wanted to defend them. I can't expect you agree with my outlook. I can only try to explain it. I think there is truth to a lot of what I posted. And I don't think I've ever been called obnoxious in my whole life. That's new for me.

I agree with what someone said about Marcus Eubanks. He is painful to watch and needs to stay behind the camera. Which is why he'll probably be popping up as a sports anchor soon.

My goodness 8:18. You are hurt! I truly feel sorry for you. Perhaps it is because there is more rejection in this business than acceptance. It is hard to change jobs every 2 or 3 years because contracts expire. It is hard to not be resentful of a 20 something who has not paid her journalistic dues in a smaller market before landing a job in a larger market. It is hard to acccept the fact that looks and age matter. But even if you do feel the negastive comments are justified, they are not helping you. It is survival of the fittest even if you don't like the law of jungle. Do something positve and try to use all your energies to get a head. That is one lesson we can all take a way from these 20 somethings who still have dreams and aren't jaded yet. If you are dissatisfied reinvent yourself. Do what it takes to market yourself someplace else. Look for your happiness in what is best.

Listen, we've all been coming here for a long time. We know that occasionally idiots will figure out how to operate a keyboard to make fun of, support, or browbeat a person they would never dream of approaching in real life. It's the nature of online posting. It allows completely useless waste's of skin equal access to getting their voices heard. Comes with the territory.

Yet I have to ask...no, PLEAD for the poster who spewed this garbage to please come forward with your real name. You need (and completely deserve) a beating of epic proportions. Who brings Melissa Dunbar up and expects nice comments.

Yes, Dunbar is a good reporter but she is not a team player and she always wants to do the least amount of work and get credited for more.

The only news ideas she gives are in Conway because she wants to stay in her backyard.

The night of the tornado she refused to go out on the field.

and she wonders why she isn't an anchor.

At 9:13 PM, March 26, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Marcus Eubanks and Mark Edwards leading sports? NO!

Blind leading the blind.

You can't even understand Marcus on air and his stories are so petty.

If Wes doesn't get the anchor job it would be because sports would die without him.

Moving a reporter (Wes) to an anchor position is the same problem THV saw with moving Alyson and Stephanie they have more holes to fill and no plans to fill them.

At 9:21 PM, March 26, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Was Stephanie a good reporter? Come on! Well perhaps when she is compared to Katherina. Melissa just wants to be front and center. I bet she was ticked they gave the morning job to Alyson.

At 9:43 PM, March 26, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well, now you are comparing a seasoned reporter to someone that hasn't been there a year.

I don't think they were necessarily calling Stephanie a good reporter, but now she thinks she's good because she thinks she's an anchor.

If it wasn't for Tom I wouldn't attempt to watch the noon show if it happen to be on.

Stephanie is the most uncomfortable looking anchor I have seen.

haa. Katherina does have a chance over Stephanie if she had those years under her belt.

At 9:45 PM, March 26, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm sure she was ticked when Mike Duncan who hasn't been there near as long got the weekend anchor position too.

She is so self centered everything is passing her by and she doesn't know why.

She would be a better anchor than Mike, but if you know her you don't want to help her move up.

I don't know about becoming the next Win Noble but she was wearing way too much makeup tonight. She looked like a drag queen. Good thing she isn't wearing a wig like she has in the past.

On a different note I'd rather see Liz stay and Dawn go.
If they give Liz a raise it still wouldn't be as high as Dawn's salary and that's a good thing for KTHV.

They need another Andy Pearson at the desk.

This has been a funny thread. Really funny. So I will share something with you.

I got into a conversationn today with the former producer of the morning show. She got out of that mess over at THV and she is glowing. I thought she would have come back by now, but she says she is really happy being a writer for a living. She said her blood pressure was down, and she looked happy.

I saw Robyn the other day, and she looks like she had some sleep! She used to look like she had her eyes sewn open in the morning. Now she looks like a rather small but normal human being.

TV sucks your soul right out of you. If you can do better somewhere else, get out while you can. Or you may be one of the folks who gets talked about here.

At 11:43 PM, March 26, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Katherina will never be an anchor until she learns how to talk. Her accent is distracting--it's sort of a cross between a Southern twang and a Hispanic accent--and she runs her words together and is hard to understand. Also, speaking of accents, I can't for the life of me imagine where Liz Massey would go from here. Her accent is so bad.

At 12:51 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Good grief. The negativity on this board. Wish Wess well if they make him a news anchor. Wish the "20-somethings" well as they begin their careers. Wish Liz Massey well if indeed she's moving on to something better. Wish Anne and Robyn well in their new lives. When someone else does well or is happy, that doesn't in any way reduce your own chance of being happy and successful, too.

At 1:21 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I still say Wes is not a good choice. He has a strange voice and does not strike me as a commanding personality. He fits in nicely as a weekend sports anchor but I believe THV needs someone who will attract viewers. THV has been winning lately but it will stop sometime soon. They better be prepared by having quality talent on hand. As of now, the reporters are dragging the station down bigtime.

At 3:21 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No, that would be the person who is ultimately responsible - Larry. He's draging the station down. He's looking for cheap, not quality. That's why you have Stephanie at noon, Katherina, and Ebone as BPJ's. Also the reason that Liz is an anchor. She was most uncomfortable the night of the tornadoes. All she could say was "mmmmmm" She looked like frankenstine next to Dawn!

At 5:45 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not only television, morning television will suck the life right out of you. Robyn may be well rested, but she's alo had a litle nip/tuck here and there. You can cover what 15 years of TV will can do to you!

At 7:52 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Good night! You folks are VICIOUS! Hey do other stations tear the talent a part like the staff at KTHV does? If you are successful and make big money,Dawn and Anne, you are ripped a part for your success. If you work in an anchor position for a smaller salary, Liz, it is because nobody else would hire you as an anchor. Finally, if you are young and fortunate enough to land a job in bigger market, you are not quite ready for, and you are willing to work for peanuts, then you are TV scum! That's you Katherina and Ebone. You guys even go after body parts, hair, noses, and fat. The only thing you really haven't inviscerated is personality. Nobody has really gone after the meanies, and believe me the nasty folks are out there. Come to think of it maybe they are blogging about everybody else!

At 7:53 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ok for the person who think Ann is a Legend you are a moron.

Paul Eels, now there's a legend. All you hear are great stories about Paul. Paul touch so many people with his sportscast and Razorback games.

Paul would talk to everybody like they were the only person on earth.

I don't think you can put Ann or Robin in the same class as Paul!

At 10:41 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think THV should bring in an attractive, EXPERIENCED male anchor from outside this market, someone they could really promote opposite Dawn. I don't think Wess is polished enough, if that's the right word, to sit there next to
Dawn. Liz can't hold her own next to Dawn because she lacks that level of poise. Dawn overrode her during the tornadoes because Liz just isn't up to that level, and never will be.

At 10:45 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Let's just stop with the "legend" stuff, because it's laughable to use that word about Anne, let alone Robyn Richardson. Paul Eels is a broadcast legend here, due not only to his personality, but his long Razorback association. Anne was here a long time, but she never did one thing that even approaches legendary. And Robyn...that one may be the funniest of all. What did she ever do but slather on the makeup with a trowel, wear obnoxious clothes, and have a lot of babies to discuss with BJ, Tom, and her adoring redneck public?

At 11:13 AM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Saying that THV needs to bring in an outside anchor who has polish to work with Dawn is a valid acknowledgment. It does not unfairly criticize Wess, who is great, or get personal. We need to hear constructive criticisms and suggestions like that and less mudslinging. People can handle valid criticisms and even grow from them, but lose the mean gossip. It just shows how unhappy and little you really are.

I love reading these posts and I find myself tuning in/logging on to get the scoop at least once a week. So, please allow me to muse for a paragraph or two...gone are the glory days of television, and it's sad. Our once glorious locally owned television market is a corporate owned bottom line driven culture. Some day the market may correct itself in the opposite direction, and all will be right with the world. In the meantime, face it folks, if you've gotten in the broadcast business over the last ten years to make a buck, you should have thought twice. THV knows what they are doing as evidenced by the latest ratings book. They have clipped KATV in most key demographics and poor ole' KARK is in the cellar once home to 11. Someone in mgmt. at THV ought to energize the staff to enjoy the ratings victory. Instead something has everyone busy constantly kvetching about dollars. Many folks in this horrible economy would be happy to have a paying job, albeit a small paying job.

At 4:57 PM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Amen! Amen! and again Amen. Good ole capitalism at work. I could not have said it better. Ole Larry is getting the job done. Be grateful you have a job and you aren't working in one of the other local stations. It could be worse.

At 8:14 PM, March 27, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Larry isn't getting anything done. It's the folks that work there. However, Larry will take all the credit for other's ideas, and accomplishments - just like he did for Becky Ditchfield going to Denver. Larry takes all credit for making that deal for her. PLEASE! Becky got smart, hired a broadcast attorney and wasn't ripped off! She got a great deal and it had nothing to do with Larry. You want to piss off Gannett, hire an agent or broadcast attorney to do yur dealings. He's taking credit for other employees hard work. All he has done is ruin morale! All of the peices were there, and have been there prior to his taking over as GM. The person who should get credit, but instead got canned was Susan Newkirk. She may not have been the warmest person face to face. But she didn't blow smoke up everyone's arse either.

At least now we know who is behind these crazy "Anne is a legend" comments! Being nice to some moron fan in Kroger does not qualify Anne to be a legend. If you're on tv, you get approached by those types of people and you smile politely, chat inanely, and move on. I still think the only person on this list who qualifies as a legend is Paul Eels. Bud Campbell, who was way before our time, was a drunk who got killed in a DWI accident. So maybe if you die in a stupid fashion, you qualify as a legend.

Legend talk is so much fun! Each station has their fair share of legendary talent. Alright, Paul and Bud are certainly legendary. And, honestly so too is Ned. The man has had incredible popularity and staying power. Good for him. At 11, you've got BJ and yes, you've got Anne who is memorable. Don't forget Beth Ward who made her fame at KARK. While at KARK, let's include Mitchell, Bonner, Woodman, Carolyn Long. Others come to mind who are Les Bolton, Jim Pitcock, and Dale Nicholson, Sr. They were all legendary because we associate them with the hay day of Arkansas tv. Gone are those days, and unfortunately much of the talent is too.

Liz asked off the day of the tornado just like about 5 other people in the news room.
They all got sick from John Dodds superbowl party.

Everyone else got the day off but they told Liz she had to come in.

She had a trash can next to her the whole night to throw up in.

So she may of looked uncomfortable but she did a good job.

Does channel 11 have a dating policy.

I would say if you have a tv power couple like Alyson in the morning and Wes on the desk that if they decide to leave it would really hurt the station.

Just like if Liz leaves it's going to cost a lot to change the promos and billboards.

Wess and Alyson aren't dating. They are married. I say it would be great to have them hold major positions.

Well, you can't necessarily tell people to break up.

Davey and Katherina have been together for about three years and Ashley and Neil have been together for about a year.

There are several other people married at 11, but I don't know if they met there.

Yeah, I think relationships can affect any business like when Ashley and Neil took a break than people try and keep them from working together etc

or if one of them plans to switch markets they take the other with them and you loose 2 people.

but what are you going to do about it? nothing.

That's what I hear happened with Alyson and Wes. She got the job here and got Wes his job shortly after.

I assume they both left the same station.

Well forget dating causing problems. Isn't there a certain reporter at 11 who refuses to work with other reporters and photographers and she isn't dating them.

Are you speaking of Diva Dunbar? There's not a lot of love there for her at THV. She hangs with the circle-7 blonde factory quite a bit. She would like to work at 7 but doesn't meet the minimum requirement - Blonde

Real TV professionals focus on their jobs and eventually move up to bigger and better things. The unprofessionals sit around and gripe about their coworkers and everyone else without focusing on their own damned jobs.

Just sayin'.

I don't know when Melissa's contract is up, but I'm sure she will try to move to KATV.

Hey, she's colored her hair a few shades maybe she will go blonde.

Maybe Liz is trying to find a station willing to pay her more so she can bargain with THV.

Dawn and Liz anchored separately this past week. I expected Wes to co-anchor.

Was it a one time thing or is he moving up?

Wouldn't Melissa have a no-compete clause that would prevent her from working at 7 anytime soon...assuming that they would want her, which I can't imagine.

Pam says her job is hard?
She hasn't seen hard yet. She gets in at 8 a.m. yet her stories run at 10 that night.

Is that how her schedule is always going to be? easy.

She hasn't had an interview at 2 p.m. yet and had to be back to write and be live for a 5 p.m. slot.

At 2:31 PM, March 30, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Maybe Melissa doesn't want to go to 7. Maybe she will ask for and get Liz's anchor spot if Liz leaves. She is the senior most reporter. She is from the area. It only makes sense.

At 4:09 PM, March 30, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Melissa will not get that job. They will not fill it. If they hire Wess or another male, and Liz leaves, Gannett will not fill that position, they'll go with two-anchors at the desk. They are cutting back where they can. So as it seems, they are banking on Liz leaving. Here's the deal, corporate says some folks will lose their jobs ands some grind it out. However, cuts will continue and they will survive at doing more with less. Some of the highest paid salaires at 11 are the anchors. If one leaves, they'll find a cheap way to fill it. It's not about quality anymore, it's not about journalism anymore, it's about gimmie my millions at your expense!

At 6:40 PM, March 30, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Someone said on here a few weeks ago that Dawn would be leaving the 10pm eventually. Would that still work if Liz left? Seems to me Dawn makes too much money to just do the 5 & 6. As far as anchors, they don't need to replace Liz. They only need two main anchors per newscast, Dawn and Wess or whoever. This 3 and 4 anchor thing they were doing is weird.

At 6:42 PM, March 30, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Everyone seems sure Liz is leaving...but no one's ever said for sure. If so, where is she going?

From a print persons "pov" i think it comes down to promotion and obvously 11 is the strongest, and if they start promoting Wes then they will only improve.7 is great at promoting a baby book as thats about all i see,4 seem to be trying but lets face it,it's ch.4

and 16,yawn!

At 8:53 PM, March 30, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well maybe they are hoping Liz will leave. That would solve the problem and nobody would look like the bad guy.

At 6:19 AM, March 31, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dawn has in her contract that she assumes the hours Anne had. They'll still need a female at 10PM and what sense would it make to move Liz--an established anchor with ratings success--out the door to save $20K? Gannett may be cheap, but they're not stupid. Plus, they only promote people who are popular inside the building-see the rest of the Wes postings. Melissa has not done a good job marketing herself in the newsroom or in the field. She may have good connections in Conway, but she suffers from Wes Moore Syndrome everywhere else: no one knows who the hell she is. It always cracks me up that TV people think they know how popular they are. News flash--just because everyone at church says they watch and love you has nothing to do with reality.

Channel 4 needs to go back to using that humongous "4" as their anchor desk, and hire the hottest weather girl Meredith Mitchell from KTHV. She puts Joan Early, Anne Pressly, Melissa Simas, Dawn Scott, Jancey Sheats, Donna Terrell, Julia Grayson Hamra, Betsy Pigrim, Anne Jansen, Carol Copeland, Kim Miller, Kelly Minton, and Carolyn Long to shame.

KARK is first on breaking news 9 out of ten times. They were the first with live weathernet sites around the state. Channel 11 is doing thht now. They were the first with Razorback Nation. The other stations followed. Their producers have more experience than anyone in town. Their reporters are much better than the competition. That is, if you're interested in the content. The station was the first to go digital with its microwave system, their facility is much better. Their morning show is far superior to the competition. Viewers are noticing, but habits are hard to break.

At 7:01 PM, March 31, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

However, they were not first to broadcast their digital signal to the OTA public. In fact, they were about six months behind the curve when KTHV and KLRT had been up and running with theirs.

KLRT dominates the digital broadcasting in this market with their resolution and coverage area. They may not have top "ratings" but their picture quality is unmatched locally.

At 7:06 PM, March 31, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Your AM show has had a year to bring in some results. Guess what, you're not. You're down year to year - in third again. It could be something other than the content - how about viewers don't like your people? You've had a year. Now the "habits are hard to break" excuse will not work and is unaceptable. THV changed anchors and is still hammering you! And now 7 is too!

At 10:15 PM, March 31, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

A lot of credit to the people in front of the camera and behind the camera at Channel 11. When Gannett bought the station 12 or so years ago the people there started a slow climb out of the cellar all the way to 1st at 10 O’clock and a dominant position in the morning. But it didn’t happen quickly. It was cultivated over time. A dominant station shouldn’t lose its place by a single anchor switch in their morning team.
4 hasn't had their new team or at least their new morning show in place for much more than a year...maybe a year and half. Who knows if 4 will ever be number 1 in the morning, but when 11 was less than 2 years into their restart I doubt they were anywhere close to the position they are in now. And while 11 is certainly in the strong position in the Feb book, 7 is barely ahead of 4 in the morning. No "hammering" going on there.

KLRT doesn't dominate the digital TV market. They stretch the image when they dont need to. I have seen entire net station breaks skipped on HD like someone is asleep at the switcher. Their audio levels are all over the place. They dont multicast..at least ch 7 could multicast when their tower was up.

1.) The picture is not "stretched" as you believe. Check KWBF Channel 42.1 for "stretch."

2.) The sleeping button puchers are at 4. KLRT (all Fox stations) have a switch that prevents this "asleep at the switcher" problem.

3.) Audio levels "all over the place" as you say, are at KTHV.

4.) Multicasting takes up bandwidth. One reason that KLRT's resolution is so good is that they don't practice multicasting while conserving bandwidth. Only so much for the channel you know. It's a plus.

Why don't you study digital, HD broadcasting for a few years and get back to us when you learn more about it so we can discuss it more in detail.

Liz may be looking for an anchor job that pays more just so she has something to bring to the table and ask for more money from 11.

I did her she made a tape with the help of a photographer.

I don't think Melissa Dunbar would get the female anchor seat if it was available.

If Melissa did want to move to 7,wouldn't she have to stay out of the business for a year because of a no compete clause.

At 4:26 PM, April 01, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KLRT has experienced stretchovision several times in March. Something broken? Plus, they cannot key a weather warning symobol over HD. So the Idol viewers will just have to take a chance on the bad weather, huh? Not competitive.

7:59 PM, March 25, 2008

Mark Edwards is more fun to watch than either Craig or Wess. He keeps it interesting. He is the only sports anchor with any personaltiy. The other two are just boring.

I agree with what someone said about Marcus Eubanks. He is painful to watch and needs to stay behind the camera. Which is why he'll probably be popping up as a sports anchor soon.

11:33 AM, March 26, 2008

As far as Marcus Eubanks goes, if Larry didn't think he had talent, he wouldn't have put him on the air. I think he does very well. Katherina should go back to school. She just doesn't cut it.

Mark and Marcus are two of my favorites!!! So back off and leave 'em alone!!! : )

At 11:21 AM, April 03, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You think Katherina needs to go back to school, and doesn't cut it, but Mark Edwards and Marcus Eubanks are good??? Gee, I wonder what your opinion is based on. Hmmm. And as far as Larry's eye for talent...I think it's been clearly established here and elsewhere that Larry HAS no eye for talent...just people who will work for nothing.

At 11:25 AM, April 03, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why is Larry making decisions about on-air talent, anyway? Isn't that the job of the new news director?
