KATV to Bring Radio to TV

Arkansas Business.com reports KATV's morning show Daybreak will be featuring segments with the morning crew of KABZ, 103.7, The Buzz. KATV News Director Randy Dixon tells Arkansas Business.com, "I don't know of anyone else who's ever tried this in this market. "We've been working it out for several weeks and I think it's going to be a new way to entertain viewers of both shows."

Is KATV going to use a five-second delay on the audio? They might need one with that type of format.

Is KATV trying to increase their redneck, pervert audience? Because that is who listens to Tommy Smith. I find him very offensive. If my kids can't watch, then I can't watch.

At 8:37 PM, August 02, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

knwa did that in nwa. radio makes for boring television. hence why tv is tv and radio is radio.

This is a weak attempt for KATV to help that joke of a morning show. The poster is correct about Mom's watching with kids. This should get Dixon fired!! The dumbest move of any TV station at anytime.

I agree with the 8:30 comment. I am not impressed with this idea at all, and don't want to wake up to people who think between their legs for a living. I don't want my kids to either.

I am certain a man was behind this decision. Any intelligent woman would not appreciate Tommy Smith's radio show. I don't swim in shallow waters.

"I am certain a man was behind this decision. Any intelligent woman would not appreciate Tommy Smith's radio show."

Justin Acri probably pushed for this. He is the program director for 103.7 The Buzz and former KATV sportscaster.

This should really sink KATV even lower in the morning show race. Hey, I am sure that the other two LR TV stations with morning shows are praying that they do air it.

I don't know, but there is something about Tommy Smith when TV camera is turned on him. It's not a pleasant sight.

Are we really surprised by more channel 7 stuff on the buzz?

What a breakthrough! Now you can watch Radio...on your TV!?!?! This is almost as exiting as KTHV's telephones on the TV concept.

I'm sure we can look forward to format busting innovations such as:

* Scott Inman reads his email out loud
* Steve Sullivan's online chat room transcripts
* Ned's "look at this pretty cloud I shot
with my camera phone" photo album
* Big Pard's favorite iPod playlists

And what will surely become your number one new favorite...

* KATV bashing Arkansas TV News blog
comments!!!

I am betting that you will not see the other stations in the market follow suit on this boondoggle.

As long as Beth Hunt is still on in the mornings, all is well. As for those who find Tommy offensive, don't watch or listen, you have the choice.

What a joke. that is the best idea Dixon has?

Wow. You know, having been born in this state, but living somewhere else, and now seeing these comments - it reminds me why I left. If I wanted to live in Russia where I am told what to listen to, told what to watch, told how I should react to things... that's where I'd go live. I get so sick of bible thumpers in this state (and yes, I'm a Christian myself) telling the rest of us how to live. You know, Jesus only got angry in the bible one or two times, and it was always at the Pharisees and Saduccees. People "who bind up heavy loads and put them on the backs of others" while taking the easy road themselves. For those of you who are so hypocritical as to think that you have some right to tell the rest of us how to live, what to watch, what to listen to... tvs and radios have knobs... use them. Stop telling us what is offensive, who is stupid for putting it on, how we shouldn't gamble or drink or anything else... it's always been funny to me - Jesus had no problem talking to sinners and forgiving their sins, but the high and mighty who thought they knew everything about right and wrong, he got angry with... and pointed out their hypocrisy.

Geez, the 10:21 CHRISTIAN comment came out of nowhere. You don't have to be a christian to find Tommy Smith offensive. None of these comments have referred to christianity at all. Some people just don't appreciate redneck humor, that's all. Muslim, Buddist, Athiest, Christian- it doesn't matter what your faith. And yes, it is a choice to turn the channel, but KATV's morning show can't afford to have viewers turn the channel. If that's their attitude, it will come back the haunt them.

At 1:59 PM, August 03, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually, it has been tried. John Lee did it a couple of years ago at Equity.

At 2:49 PM, August 03, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Get over it people, you have dozens, maybe even hundreds of other channels to watch if you don't like it. And as for the kids, I have one too, and he watches cartoons in the mornings, you should let your kids try it sometime. And like 8:05am said, as long as Beth is still on, it will be great. Vote for Tommy in 2008.

I am suprise that all of you are suprised at Randy's idea. Come on...remember...he is the one that thought it would be a great idea to have four women to do a early morning newscast. Like that idea...this one will only last a few months or when someone calls the FCC to bitch about the content!

Ok, now I have permission to turn from Daybreak, I will. I will tell all my friends to turn the channel as well. Thanks for the advice. I agree with the post that Daybreak can't afford to lose viewers. Who the heck do they think they are with that attitude? You would think they had big ratings.

At 7:55 AM, August 04, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They don't, and won't. I wonder who KATV is using as an adviser on their programming.

Was that Ned Perme's boy Brian that got arrested in Fayetteville last week. He sure looks like ole Ned. He got popped for dope and guns, and a lot of other stuff. If this is Ned's son, you think ole Newscene 7 will put it out there? They seem to do that with everyone else that gets into trouble and has a recognizable name. A good example is the story they currently have on the Atkins High School principal pleading guilty to DWI. If, this is Ned's boy, he sure put together a nice rap sheet last week. Will Newscene 7 be fair and responsible and report on this? Stay tuned folks!

I agree that Tommy Smith should not be on camera! I cannot stand The Buzz..Tommy Smith's still uses his old, used-up, boring content from his Magic105 days. What value can they bring to KATV's morning news show? Sports? Who cares about the Razorbacks and Smith's opinions early in the morning. We want National headlines, local weather and traffic. Then we hit the door to work!!!!!

If Razorback sports is all you can talk about, or for that matter listen to, then you are very much in a minority.

Yes, Ned Perme has a son named Brian who was arrested last week in Fayetteville on numerous felonies. He was also arrested again with six more felonies including simultaneous possesion of drugs and guns for a second time. I wonder if KATV will report the story. Either way you don't have to be a weather man to know it's looking dark and cloudy for Brian.

KATV should report this story. But, they won't, it's NWA news not LR news. The apple doesn't fall from the tree, I assure you.

At 9:40 PM, August 09, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Law officers executed a search warrant on Perme's residence Wednesday and found two large bags with approximately 438 grams of suspected cocaine, other controlled substances and firearms.

Perme was arrested in connection with felony delivery of cocaine; delivery of Xanax; possession of drug paraphernalia; felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver; and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

Dang how much we payin the weather man up in Little Rock.

Why is this news in NWA and not in Little Rock? As a matter of fact why is it news at all? A college kid arrested for drugs? You could do news stories like that ever night.

So Brian is Ned's son that gives no one the right to blame Ned for his escapades.

At 6:47 PM, August 10, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ned didn't give his son any love when he was a young boy, he was too busy tanning!!! So, yes he did have something to do with the whole deal. Maybe his parenting skills and personality should be questioned.

At 7:19 PM, August 10, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Good Grief! So Ned gets hung for something his grown son, at age 23 does? His son is an accomplished hunter, that explains owning guns. My God, my 19 year own just got a DUI, does that make me a bad parent too? Half of the news put out these days involves drugs, alcohol etc. Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears. Just a little too close to home for some folks I guess.. Look in your own family, we all have a dark closet with a few things no one's proud of. How about saying a prayer for him that he makes it through this craziness and comes out a responsible young man on the other side?

At 11:10 PM, August 11, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with anonymous. Drug addiction knows no boundaries-color of skin, amount of money, kind of parenting, etc. It is just that--an addiction. Went down the same road with my 24-year-old son and always felt it was something I did wrong. However, after going to numerous treatment programs with him, I learned it was not my fault. As a parent of a child with an addiction, my prayers are with the entire Perme's family. It is an awful road to go down as a parent. If you could take their place, you would! Don't judge too harshly because you never know when it could happen in your family. Once again, my prayers are with the Perme's family.

Look people that are saying its not news about Brian getting busted with coke. The guy had 1 lb of blow and 100 bars of xanex. Just knowing by gram or pill how much that is, your looking at 16-18k with the green. Thats not just a someone getting popped with a joint.

At 12:20 PM, August 12, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

With that amount of drugs, it doesnt sound like its to support his addiction. More like his bank account.

At 8:43 PM, August 16, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, he was a hunter, but I do not know to many people that duck hunt with a pistol. My argument about Ned having a part in this, is he did nothing to stop problem even after he knew his son had a huge one. Here is a simple fact, Brian Perme had to pay for his own lunch while he was in middle and high school, even though his father was making triple figure salary. Now, you could say that is teaching a kid to earn a living and I guess Brian did "Buy selling drugs"

At 4:51 AM, September 07, 2007, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ned Perme's son is a complete bafoon. He knew no boundaries, and he never will (even when his domain is a filthy cell with stinking toilets). The Perme family should be ashamed of themselves that they let him buy anything growing up..The guy is a pretty sorry kid for doing it. Oh yeah, and 2 arrests in 5 days, both for cocaine and guns? If a judge does not throw the book, at least we know he isn't pampering some insignificant weather family..please, the judge is a total idiot if he doesn't hurl the documents at Perme's gay, goofy son.

I recently started working with Brian and people should not throw rocks at glass houses. He is really trying to straighten up and he knows he did wrong. He is ashamed and knows he is in a lot of trouble. We all have faults and no one is perfect. I also have waited on Ned Perme and he is also a nice person. Brian is not a bafoon and he is not a gay idiot. Once again watch where you throw rocks. Who are ant of us to judge another person. I know that I am not perfect and neither is anyone else.

At 11:23 PM, May 28, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Brian's family had nothing to do with the choices and actions he made. Obviously Brian was really screwed up on drugs at the time and was hanging around the wrong people. He was busted in Fayetteville not Little Rock so how would his parents even know what he was up to. Lets just hope that he has learned from his mistakes. This arrest probably saved his life.

At 1:44 AM, May 30, 2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

There is no reason why Ned and his family should be held accountable for his son's actions. His son had an addition to drugs and alcohol. Didn't Brian graduate from LSU in 4 yrs with an academic scholarship of 3.8 gpa on the dean's list? They did everything perfect, people have addictions and they can ruin families. I feel for everything the Perme family has been through. You all should be ashamed for bad mouthing them. Ned has been an awesome member to this community with all the things he contributes such as, charity, playing music, being a servive to the state for 25yrs, and doing whatever is called upon him. If his son wants to throw his life away with drugs it's not his fault. But what a remarkable man to stand behind his family and son through all the stuff he continues to get bashed on. I give him props for believing that his son will make him proud and prove everyone wrong.
