Pearson Gone From THV

An e-mailer tells ATN, "Andy Pearson cleaned out his desk last night after the late news."

Additional: Arkansas Times blog has the THV Press Release:

"News anchor Andy Pearson is leaving Today’s THV to pursue other opportunities available to him now, according to KTHV President and General Manager Larry Audas.

“Andy has been on the front lines at THV and his efforts to make this a number one TV station are greatly appreciated,” Audas said. “As Andy concludes his contract at year’s end, there is an open door for opportunity elsewhere and he’s going to make that move. We wish him the very best.”

Pearson said it is premature to discuss his plans at this time. Audas said Pearson asked for a low key departure, saying on-air good-byes and fanfare are not his style. “I've sincerely enjoyed working with everyone at KTHV, past and present, in front of the camera and behind, who have strived to be part of a quality effort despite the distractions that are inherent in our line of work. I can't think of anyone in the building that leaves out,” said Pearson. “I wish you nothing but more success and contentment.”

Andy Pearson co-anchored THV’s evening newscasts and worked on a number of special reports over the years. He has a particular interest in aviation news, and as a pilot himself, Pearson has a passion for flight. Pearson returned to Little Rock television in 1998 after previously working for stations in Pittsburgh and Nashville.

Today’s THV News Director Mark Raines says veteran anchors Anne Jansen, Liz Massey and Dawn Scott will continue their anchor work at 5,6, and 10pm. Jansen and Massey will be especially busy in the weeks ahead. “We expect Dawn to be away from the anchor desk for a few weeks after the delivery of her first child. She promises to share some pictures and stay in touch with viewers while she is at home,” according to Raines."

I love the way Gannett tries to make it classy when they have to let someone go.

It's just the way all stations should do it. Tell the person you're letting them go but leave it up to them on how. Whatever!

Everyone at THV knows the hidden truth on the dismissal.
His contract was up months ago, not at the end of the year. This whole thing has been planned and structured for months.

Good Luck Ange!

Hey 10:52PM:

You are plain WRONG about the contract details. Andy's contract ends 12/31 but his unused vacation days resulted in his early departure---AT THE END OF HIS CONTRACT.

Don't you worry about ole Andy. He's gonna be just fine.

Andy P. will be missed. He was funny and good to work with.

Good luck AP!!

His contract was up in Sept. He started there in Sept. It may have been extended a few months while management was figuring out the nice way to let him go.

Good for Andy. If he's smart (and he is), he'll get out of broadcasting.

There are some unbelieveably petty, manipulative lying posters on this blog. Must be fun waking up and going to work every day wondering about what the guy/gal in the next cubicle is posting about you. Truth doesn't seem to be an issue on this blog. You people throw out whatever lies that you please without regard to the consequences.

I must conclude that station managers are participating because otherwise they would have the site blocked. Hey GM's--wanna make some more money at your station? Wanna see employee productivity skyrocket? Block this site and force your workers to post and read from home.

Just a thought.

Andy did arrive in September, but who knows how his contract was structured.

I doubt Andy Pearson was let go. That is a bit over the edge of stupidity for Gannett even. Knowing his contract was up and having better opportunities makes perfect sense to me. Who wants that sort of life given the hours, chaos, pettiness and more.

Appears Andy's intelligence is not only obvious to me but others who've now stolen him as well.

Whatever he goes into I wish him only the best of luck. He'll do great as always. He's a top notch guy who's going to be missed on air by far too many.

So what is KTHV going to do when they find out that Dawn Scott has allegedly been interviewing with a pharmaceutical company in Little Rock?

Oh boy! We now have not only one diva (eg. Kaco) but three! I see the claws from here!

Now there's what would've been a great idea for sweeps! A Springer/Gannett news cast team...I love it!

Who cares who let the hogs out. Who didn't think of that one?!

I think you underestimate the level of stupidity at Gannett. If stupidity was a felony several Gannett-oids would be doing life without parole.

Andy will be missed. He is a consumate pro, easily more so that the Gannett management. He'll land just fine and he'll be better off to be gone from Gannett.

Dawn has a 2 year contract. Pharmaceutical companies don't interivew 2 years out. She didn't like pharmaceuticals. Why do you think she got out of it and went back to tv?

Wow. You folks may yet manage to change my cynical mindset towards those of you in the broadcast industry. There have been so many hateful and unnecessary posts on this blog.

As this blog shows, those who know Andy think highly of him and are posting here. I guess that proves that there is at least one person in your industry who is respected.

Then again, maybe it does reflect upon the rest of you in the biz. Is he the only "good guy" in broadcasting (with the exception of the late Mr. Eells)? The posts make me think so. Almost all of the posts on all of the other threads were negative. Here they are almost completely positive (at least towards Andy as compared to Gannett).

I know Andy and he is a really good guy but I keep coming back to the same conclusion that based, on all of the negativity directed towards EVERYONE ELSE mentioned on this blog over the last several months, that he must be the ONLY good guy in your industry.

If that is the case, I feel sorry for you people.

Negative comments usually are derived from jealousy. Those who are secure do not feel the need to get on here and bash their competition. Andy was well liked and will be missed.

Good Luck Andy P....

I wish someone would put up a "players" card to this blog. Come on, give your lurking outside of TV employees audience some names to go with post. Or someone be crazy enough to say something like "9:02 is an acct rep at such and such station..."

This is the best "bitchy" site on the web!

Thanks for entertaining us!

The proof will be in the ratings whether Dawn is all that or not. THV had a good book, so apparently more jealousy comments will start.

At 1:44 PM, December 22, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This book tells the same ol story. THV wins in the morning, 7 wins at 5 & 6 and 11 wins or ties at 10. But, if you look at the demo numbers, THV did pretty good in all newscasts. That means that these big HH numbers 7 is pulling comes from people 55+?

*********BREAKING NEWS*************

Andy Pearson has joined The Win Noble Band and they will perform "Beating a Dead Horse" at Larry Audas' Christmas Party.

At 12:01 PM, December 26, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Unless his contract wasn't renewed. Then he can do whatever he wants.

Not the case. Non-competes generally are written to run past the original contract. You agree not to work in a certain market for a specific period of time past the end of the contract.

At 3:03 PM, December 26, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The reason why that works in right-to-work states like Arkansas is that most companies who know what they're doing will put in the contract that a portion of what they're paying the employee is for the six months or a year that they' must serve their non-compete.

So, if the company says a portion of your salary is earmarked for that while you're employed, you have to sit out.

Strangely, that does not prevent you from getting unemployment.

I missed his last one on air and am very sad about it.

You never realize people on the news seem to become a part of your family and your daily habits. You find yourself looking forward to seeing them, knowing they'll be there for you. Then without any warning he was gone.

Obviously I'm not the only sad one out there.

For the viewers, it would have been nice to have a head's up. Treat us with a little respect. Every night Liz tells us Dawn is off on maternity leave like we are too stupid to figure that out after all the fanfare. Meanwhile we are left wondering if Andy is dead or on assignment or abducted by aliens. Give us a break and a little respect.

Please get a life, People...One would think that the local news talking heads are the most important factor in your lives...
Don't you know that most viewers
turn to local news only when severe
weather or breaking news occurs? Besides, news teams spend most of their on-air time as cheerleaders or lobbyists for local corporations, sports
teams, and advertisers...But I must say, Anne Jansen and Christine
Munoz are classy and hot! Andy
was so affable and telegenic, but his weight was getting in his way, a fact of life for anchors of either gender...television is television...unless your name is "Rosie"...(Loved the Nanny comment..if one is going to blog, at least be funny or witty)....wait, I see breaking news...Andy shaved his head and got a tattoo...Look out, Dawn!...

Well, I don't know what this says about Andy having left in Dec 2006: My husband & I just noticed last week that we hadn't seen him for awhile & kind of wondered. I thought Andy was okay, maybe a little arrogant at times but basically okay. I just don't think the chemistry was there between the whole team & I never liked how he seemed to look down on Craig O'Neal. Craig was kind of like a "breath of fresh air" when he came to LR but Andy just never seemed to get it.
