KTHV Introduces THVtogo.com

Look what the KTHV webteam has quietly rolled out. It's THVtogo. The new feature allows you to get THV news and weather via your wireless phone. Seems like THV is rolling out a new web feature everyweek. Next I would like to see online streaming of newscasts and see the newscasts archived online.

i would like to see online newscasts as well since i live in northwest arkansas and do not get THV up here. they have the best website/web team in arkansas. 40/29 up in northwest arkansas has a pretty good one too.

Streaming and archives is too costly at the moment. All the stations in the market would have to pay CNN, AP and the network more money to rebroadcast their material over the net.

Me thinks someone at THV has a little too much time on their hands.

I believe KAIT used to do full streaming newscasts. Is this still the case?

"Me thinks"....now why would you say that. I guess it really doesn't take that much time to kick KATV's butt. Leaving many free hours to post here on this useless site.

I guess KATV has time to respond because they're not really working anymore.

If someone at KTHV has free times on their hands, then they deserve it. I mean having streaming video online, streaming radar, a 24/7 updated web site, new features added all the time, THV To Go, THV Web Casts, THV Weather Casts on line. If they do all that and still have free time on their hands, then praise them.

Amazing that THV has all that - surprise, so does fox16.com.

klrt doesn't have wireless news.....thv is the trendsetter for little rock tv station websites.

Nor does KLRT have a updated news and weather casts specifically designed for the internet user.

At 6:24 AM, July 26, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And KLRT doens't update the news during the day. They only stories you get on KLRT are just what they had on the news. KLRT has a long way to go to be considered a big player in the market. Right now you're just a niche newscat.

Sure you had a good May book, but let's see what happens in July without American Idol.

Dang it is fun to read these posts. This is what I have gleaned so far. There are several KATV current or former angry employees. A few loyal newbies to KATV that don't remember the days when KATV was the blowtorch in this market. And then there are some folks that must do the webwork at KTHV because they can't wait to brag on what they are doing. Maybe their should be a topic devoted to trashing KATV and giving Web praise to the web folks at THV.

Jealous are we? Sounds like it! KATV can't stand when their competition does something the viewers like. BTW, what's up with all the dancing segments lately? The dance contest on daybreak and now you had Jason Harper dancin' on Mid-day today. Just watch KATV's ratings dance out the door.

If you have current KATVers posting these hateful posts then you've really got problems on the corner of 4th and Main. As for former employees, you do have more then a handful who probably would like nothing better then see 7 circling the drain. I wonder if that's more a reflection on them or the treatment they received?

KLRT has a long way to go to be a major player in this market? That's pretty funny, they've been on a year and a half and already are the only station to have gained in every demo. I'll also add, it's pretty funny when the "niche" station is being copied left and right by the other three that have been around for 50 years.

I don't even work in the business (a PR chick) and I can see it. They're newscast is the best looking in the market by far. When they add more news in the coming year, watch out. Believe me, your news directors are nervous.

"KLRT is the best looking in the market by far" I guess you really don't watch do you. They have technical problems left and right. I remember not too long ago they had to actually quit the newscast after 1/2 an hour because of technical problems.

The only News Director KLRT makes nervous works for KLRT.

ROTFLMAO Believe me, no they're not.

I'm betting the poster a few up (the PR chick) is very good looking!

You guys still copy Fox 16 left and right, there's no denying that (funny how some of you decided on pacers, headlines, plasmas after seeing them). They've at least brought new ideas to a market that's absolutely stale. You other three look total small market(eg. cheap graphics, bland stories). Ask any consultant and they'd tell you the same.

And from what I've seen lately, haven't seen too many technical problems with their product either.

Though I love Channel 11, Fox 16 has a damn good newscast also. However, when did they have to quit the newscast half-way through becuase of technical problems. I normally watch, but don't remember that?

I like being able to believe the news, which is a big reason why I don't watch KLRT. The little start-up seems too big for its britches. All the graphics, music, and animations in the world can't save an inexperienced staff that doesn't know Arkansas all that well.

At 6:43 AM, July 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Fox 16 did not reinvent local news. The other stations used pacers, headlines, and monitors long before Fox 16 came along.

At 8:01 AM, July 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

DeeeeeeeWayne Graham invented local news... just ask him !

At 1:38 PM, July 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Are you kidding me, not once did I see the other stations utilizing plasmas, pacers and all that jazz until KLRT started to doing it. I agree with PR chick, they may be young, but they're already market trendsetters. And I too have noticed how the other three copy what they do.

At 2:10 PM, July 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You must be a Fox 16 anchor or reporter. I know this because you're obviously not from around here, because you have no idea what the other station in the market were doing before Fox starting trying to do news at 9.

At 2:18 PM, July 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope the PR Chick posts again... bet she's really hot !

At 2:31 PM, July 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

In fact I am from around here, been here the past five years - and no I'm not a reporter or anchor anymore(used to be in a previous life). I do however watch a lot of news, and noticed not till after fox's news arrived on the scence, did the other three start adopting their ideas.

Funny how KARK started headliners just a few months ago, how KATV did the same, as well as new pacers (Conflict in Iraq) - all after KLRT. Having worked in other markets and now out of the bizz, you don't realize how far behind the Little Rock market is when it comes to this stuff - which is why I respect what Fox had done.

At 2:43 PM, July 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Have to agree about KLRT. They may have some folks not from around here, but their ratings sure don't seem to be the worse for it. Count me as one of those who watch.

Little Rock is an isolated market... only decent market in the state. So viewers don't know what other markets offer.

At 3:47 AM, July 28, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KTHV used to use headlines and pacers until it realized how dumb they were. Now they use a lot of things that go "whoosh."

I think "woosh" is pretty cool

Totally NOT related-- I can guarantee that! Quit trumping stuff. You have no idea what you're talking about there.

"Having worked in other markets and now out of the bizz, you don't realize how far behind the Little Rock market is when it comes to this stuff - which is why I respect what Fox had done."

I agree Little Rock is behind other markets. This is more a reflection of the viewer, though. It wouldn't fly here. Little Rock viewers aren't interested in the tabloid format. And that's exactly how EVERY local Fox affiliate in the country is formatted. It's their gig, kiddo. They always have a black anchorwoman and a white anchorman. They always have a dark metro set. They always focus on this bad-ass Giraldo-like reporting. This isn't innovative or progressive-- it's just what FOX does!
