Wow... KARK is really moving up the ladder. I had no idea they were so close in the ratings.

KARK starts strong at 5, but, then fades the rest of the night. Wonder why ?

I bet if KTHV reformatted it's 5pm newscast it would dig into KATV's international hour. Really surprises me KATV can pull in such big #'s given they do so much national/international stuff in it's newscasts. I bet if KATV didn't have the "stars" they would be flopping. AND KARK needs to do some heavy promoting of their newscasts and great anchors. KARK could eventually start gaining ground.

At 12:45 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree... KARK has the best Anchor team, Brett is great, they have the best reporters. Thye need to promote what they are doing and they would be great. I really think they are going to pass 11 by the end of the year as the #2 station in Little Rock. KATV better watch out I think they will continue to decline...

Who cares what happened in 2003... I still looks good for KARK...

KARK is coming on strong, as they should. They need to promote the heck out of Bob and Jancey. It's a good pairing. Plus, I've been impressed with what they are doing with their 10 p.m. newscast. Keep up the good work.

At 1:07 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You can't really look at book to book or # from 2004. How did the station do from MAY to May? No matter how you slice it KARK is really in the race with THV at 5 and 6... and took #'s from KATV in the mornings.

At 1:07 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

5 and 6 are pretty much habit. Look at the lead ins...Oprah does well and so does KATV...THV has no lead in so they don't do well at 5. If they ever got a strong lead in they'd be much stronger. That and actually try at 5.

At 1:08 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Please... KATV is the news leader and remains the news leader. They had a little bump in the road in the mornings so what!!! They are still way ahead at 5, 6, & 10

At 1:15 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Case in point: the arrogant attitude at KATV that is running away its viewership.

At 1:34 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Please define "way ahead" does one point equal "way ahead" and how did the demos break out. We all know you don't sell the household number. Are you still way ahead in the key selling demos? Please break those down for us. Let us know how far ahead you really are.

any word on numbers from fayetteville/fort smith?

At 2:43 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KATV is winning everything at night... that's good. And their morning show is new, so in time that will improve. KATV has to be fairly happy.

At 2:48 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They're flat at best from May to May...down in many areas. Like poster a few lines above says, the demos will tell the story.

At 3:21 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It looks like KARK it really making strides. KATV is dominant at 5 and 6 but they're starting to show some vulnerability and losing some ground. I've made the switch to KARK because their news is just better to watch. KARK shows the top Arkansas stories of the day rather than international or national stories.

At 3:35 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KATV is still benefitting at 5:00 and 6:00 from huge numbers in years past. They'll continue to be number one for awhile longer. The fact is, the station is seeing a steady decline in those shows and it's just a matter of time before they fall from grace. It was a good station... but not any more.

At 3:46 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Actually KATVs demos look great, way up from the past couple of years when they began to decline a little. Two books in a row of a growing younger audience. Starting to skew younger and that has to really worry the rest of us in this market.

At 4:15 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

skewing younger. yeah.. rather than 80 year olds watching, it's 70 year olds.

At 4:15 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The reporters are skewing younger.

At 4:54 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KATV is doing a good job... seems some people in here are just haters.

At 5:11 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nope I think we have "shopped around" and found that KATV's competitors are giving folks more news. I challenge everyone to watch KTHV and KARK and take the NEWS challenge. It's just a matter of time before KATV's viewers get hungry for news again.

At 5:42 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, you're right, I guess the past 16 years of ratings dominance at 5 and 6 are just a fluke.

At 5:52 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Folks go to KATV out of habit. May not be the best product BUT they keep going back time and again. Sort of like wal-mart. Wal-mart reels ya in with a low prices but eventually start marking everything up. Why do folks go back? Out of habit, not because they like it. Just because they need to be led to a new feeding trough.

At 5:59 PM, June 21, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't think KATV'S dominance at 5 and 6 is a fluke at all. They have been good in the past. It just takes time for viewers to realize there are better products out there. They just go to seven out of habit. Spend a day watching the other channels and you'll agree, the NBC and CBS affiliates are better now

At 7:28 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Imagine how bad KATV's numbers would have been if they hadn't picked a puppy.

At 8:26 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I've taken the news challenge. I flipped back and forth between 4 and 7 on several occasions during 5 and 6 and KARK always has more news. They also seem to have more reporters. That could also be because KATV keeps making anchors out of their best reporters. Good for those girls, bad for their overall product.

At 8:34 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey, maybe KARK could brand itself as "the fastest growing station in Arkansas." LOL! It's funny to see the SAME comments as a few years ago, i.e. "KATV better watch out," and "oh boy here comes the very distant number three... look how the numbers are growing! (from a 4 to a 5)." Truth is, in all my years of doing this, I've never seen a station with such dominance as KATV. And, my prediction would be that, KATV has to continually work to keep that dominance. But in today's world, what tv station, network or other media outlet doesn't have to bust it's ass to keep the viewers it has?

At 9:00 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The problem is... KATV isn't working anymore.

At 9:24 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

All these comments are generalities... can anyone give specifics on WHY they like one station more than another? KATV has the best ratings because more people watch their shows... end of discussion there.

At 10:08 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

People in here are slamming KATV... but they are ignoring reality. KATV made a clean sweep at 5, 6 and 10. And they're second in the mornings. They are the dominant station in this market, whether you agree or not.

At 10:51 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just because KATV got better ratings doesn't mean it's the better product. It just shows KATV can put anything on the air and the idiots will still watch.

It's really too bad we can't see who is actually posting all the praise comments. I would bet 100 percent of them are coming from KATV staffers. Heck you better get to work and deliver NEWS.

At 10:52 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They have been dominate. There's no question. However, if you look at the numbers you'll clearly see that the station's ratings are steadily going down every book. Sure they're number one at 5:00 and 6:00. That's because their numbers have been so high there for years. But again, they are dropping and in time they will be overtaken. That is unless they do something to improve their product.

At 11:15 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

...and that's why kthv and kark will never win. They are elitist snobs who think all the people in this state are "idiots" just because they don't watch their product. People just might be smarter that they think.

At 11:22 AM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

well they must be since crazy since KATV can fool them into watching a local version of national and international news. Heck anybody can rip and read news from the AP wire. heck even the weather segments seem to have been cut in length. KATV's strong suit is sports. Sports takes priority over news and weather.

At 12:54 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KATV is watched by more people... so they are doing their job. Whatever they are doing, it works. Hard to argue with that. Some people in here don't like KATV, but, they are in the minority. That's cool.

But if KATV's product were awful, people would turn away. You see, there's this little thing called a "remote control" that most TV's come with these days.....

At 1:47 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

O yea, the ratings are just a "sampling" of the viewing audience. Not everyone "got to vote".

And for the hundreth time, just because you have the biggest numbers doesn't mean you have the best product. See that's what KATV thinks. "We've got the numbers so we can slack off and the folks won't notice." Yeah right. I noticed and switched and I really hope KTHV and KARK will do some heavy promoting.

At 2:16 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

More people watch KATV... therefore more like it... than KARK or KTHV. You keep talking about who is better, but, the majority of people keep watching KATV. That means something.

At 3:23 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

How bout that morning program? Not doing so hot is it? Shouldn't have fired Matt Mosler and Julie Mayberry. KATV didn't know they had a good thing going did they?

At 3:40 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Again, more people are watching. But they are steadily turning away. That must mean their viewers are not happy. KATV'S RATINGS ARE GOING DOWN!

At 4:06 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I got a good idea let's all boycott KATV for better news and thay need to stop all of the tabloid TV news coverage and that should do it and get rid of Dale Nickerson,Rusty Mizell and Randy Dixion and hey even throw in Pam Smith, and all of the reporters and i can clearly see two points to why KATV is sorry in my book and one their is too many reporters and covering nonsense news and running thin and on empty and two they are all trying to make a name for themselves and the reporters in the past was good and these reporters now can not measure up to the honor they lost and they will never get it back.

At 4:09 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Morning shows take a while to build... it's like becoming a family. So these things take years, not just two months. Did you realize KATV's new morning show has just been going on for eight weeks ????

KATV didn't sweep the 5, 6 and 10 spots last year... so you can't just say people are turning away. It's just not true.

At 4:11 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I got a gut feeling that KATV is reading these post and their spin doctors will not make a dent in this comments being posted and i think my gut feeling is right.

I think the above poster wins the title of "King of Run-On Sentences."

Just look at his post a couple up... makes me tired just to read it!

At 4:20 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KATV fell at 10:00. Just not as much as KTHV. KARK was the only station to grow viewers at 10:00. Will this mean that KTHV will finally stop running that "fastest growing station" because for the last few books they have not been the fastest growing. This book they were actually the fastest shrinking station in Arkansas.

At 5:09 PM, June 22, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What numbers are these specifically?

At 6:57 AM, June 23, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You say building a monring show takes time. Then why didn't KATV give more time to Steve Powell and Julia Grayson? They fired the highest rated morning team in Matt and Julie and then couldn't understand why the once dominant Daybreak is now running neck and neck with KTHV. Their answer...another round of firings. So now they're tied with KARK. That makes them one round away from being tied with the hairpaint commercial on Fox.

At 8:53 AM, June 23, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who knows why the changes were made? Maybe the personalities wanted to leave, maybe there were other issues. But you can't just say KATV is firing good people for the fun of it. Management would love to keep a top-rated show, just think about it.

At 8:53 AM, June 23, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And speaking of keeping people... Steve Powell has been there forever !

At 1:08 PM, September 19, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said...

ha ha ha good for you KATV and the problem with you is that you get good people in for those interviews and you let them go and you don't know who you have passed up and that is now hurting you and you got waht you deserved just deserts!
