Inquiring Minds Want to Know

I have received several emails inquiring about a couple Little Rock TV personalities MIA:

An emailer informs me Michelle Rupp from KLRT/KARK hasn't been seen on the air lately.  Rupp was hired on at KLRT as a weekend meteorologist..and her bio has been taken down from the KLRT website.

ALSO, I have recieved emails inquiring on the whereabouts of Ed Buckner, chief meteorologist at KTHV/Channel 11.  Emails poured in when it was discovered Channel 11 was advertising for a meteorologist in their jobs area on the station's website....

All the best stories involve meteorologist scandals.

Rupp's gig was intended to be very short term.

Sources say Michelle has ended her tv career in hopes of becoming the first white player on the Harlem Globetrotters.

Michelle's stint was never intended to be a FT position. She was only hired to work for a 3-week period as fill-in.

Not all basketball players are black, including the Globetrotters. 12:52, it's hilarious to think you'r an overweight glob of goo making less an hour than Sonic manager.

Wow, she's really moving up in the world huh?

Ed Buckner is MIA more often than any other meteorologist in this market.

I see a lot of this in my work. I am a General Surgeon and turnover of weatherman with special needs like Ed is not rare.

I like seeing more Sarah. Haven't really missed Ed. Loves me some Sarah!

Just from a viewer's perspective, local news personalities disappear all the time. I moved here from Kansas City slightly more than a year ago, and on a recent visit back there I was shocked at how many new faces there were on the local news.

There have been white female Harlem Globetrotters? I did not know that.

Little Rock "personalities" come and go like Scooby-Doo villains.

Ed Buckner has been at that position for like 20+ years, though.

Ed posted on twitter that he was on vacation....

At 9:17 PM, January 17, 2015, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thanks, 8:25. Ed HAS been around for 20 years. That means he probably has four or five weeks of vacation. Keep in mind, that TV people can't be gone during the four ratings months and you're down to taking all that vacation time during the remaining 8 months. For those of you worrying about the meteorologist job posting, I'm guessing they're just looking for another real MET to help cover all those vacations and (maybe) the Saturday morning show. Calm down folks!

@8:29, I would liken them to Fantasy Island guests.

How many meterologists can onestation have? If Ed Buckner is just on vacation, then, is channel 11 letting someone go? You have Tom Brannon in the morning and Sarah Fortner on the weekends and occasional weeknights. Are they going to have dual weeknight weatherpeople like they do news anchors?

So what is Michelle doing?

I don't care who you are, that's just funny right there.

9:17 Other anchors who have been in this market as long as Ed Buckner do not take vacation time that comes close to Mr. Buckner.

Umm... I would like to introduce you to Ned. He loves vacation.

At 10:40 PM, January 20, 2015, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Let's start counting the vacation days that all local meteorologist take in 2015.

At 5:53 AM, January 21, 2015, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why shouldn't they take their vacation? Just because someone else is dumb enough to think sacrificing theirs to be a team player is somehow noble? That's not noble. It's gutless and stupid, and it's the reason tv stations get away with expecting such ridiculous behavior.

I agree 5:53.

What is the average yearly vacation time for an anchor who has been with a station for 20 years?

4 weeks

Did anybody hear about this morning that Greg Dee of KARK is leaving for Cleveland .

At 8:29 AM, January 22, 2015, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Greg deserves better than what Nexstar has to offer.

At 8:56 AM, January 22, 2015, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So who is leaving THV if they have a met position available?

At 12:20 PM, January 22, 2015, Anonymous Anonymous said...

He is going to a Gannett station. He will be filling in while the chief meteorologist Betsy Kling is taking maternity leave. I wondered if someone with Gannett ties scouted Greg. It could like when Jim Pitcock sent tapes of Sully to other markets while Sully was at 4 and Pitcock was ND at 7. Greg could be a jerk in public. The Cleveland market is an interesting market for weather. Dick Goddard, WJW's chief meteorologist, has been there since 1966. I don't know of any other 83-year-old TV mets.

"Deathstar" Broadcasting likes station conglomerates.

They operate both the KARK and KLRT news departments/stations. Along with KASN and KARZ.

4 was enough.

Ridiculous...

Great research, 2:04. Also relevant, it urns out the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus are really just your parents.
