Congratulations on beating the other guy in the market.
It must be his hard line stance against the razorback programs when they mess up so bad.
I really don't like most of the sports coverage on 4 and 11. 4 is almost all U of A on weeknights. When I watch 11, it appears they hired a young cheap talent that would likely survive a layoff because they were willing to move to this market and work for a low salary. I wish Phil was the sports director. It would make more sense until he gets a job in Seattle or Portland.
Congratulations on being proclaimed best sportscaster of a town without sports.
"Congratulations on beating the other guy in the market."Best comment I've ever read on this blog.
4 has the right idea. Sports should come from Fayetteville. People in Little Rock have no clue what's going on up there.
2:36 PM, January 10, 2015:Amen. You could not be more correct.
4 thinks sports ONLY comes from Fayetteville. No thanks, I'll watch Sully.
Sully also thinks sports only come from Fayetteville and will cowtow when it's time to cowtow.
Sully isn't an asshole, but he mollycoddles assholes.
"People in Little Rock have no clue what's going on up there." Yes we do. We read the paper.
The way 4 does sports is a joke!! Selling out for Hog only is dumb and it sure as heck HASNT helped them in the ratings the way I'm sure they thought it would. The idea that they go more "in-depth" is a farce! And I've never seen Wess go out and shoot the way Sully gets on his grind..no wonder he beat him out!
The idea that sports coverage or lack thereof helps ratings one way or another is ignorant.
At least on Super Bowl Sunday, we can look forward to a comprehensive KARK report of the new janitor at Razorback Stadium.
If you think Sully or Wes would give you a comprehensive report about the Super Bowl they are not going to, you are dreaming.
At least they acknowledge that the NFL exists. KARK does not.
ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 and NFL network pretty much have that covered.
Not everyone has cable or dish. Cord cutters are not going to get NFL news on those networks. Guess they shouldn't report any national news stories with your rationale.
You could also just watch the network news which will certainly cover it, and way better than Sully.
@3:09,If I wanted a comprehensive report on the Super Bowl, I would turn to ESPN, NFLNetwork, etc.But Sully covers Arkansas sports — not just the Razorbacks — better than any other television person in the state, bar none. Most of these TV wannabes throughout the state these days are nothing more than Razorback cheerleaders, with the head of the class being none other than Bo Mattingly and Aaron Peters. They make me sick. Every one of them could learn from Sully on how to be a real sports broadcaster.
I am not a 7 fan but I am a Sully fan. He is a class act and a hell of a sportscaster.
Sully is okay but also nothing more than a razorback cheerleader. 4 used to cover the same stuff he does, but correctly figured out that most people just want to hear about the Hogs... for the rest you can turn to Wes. If A-state and the razorbacks play on the same day, which team do you think Sully is going to tell you about first? Sorry but he's just as much of a hog cheerleader.
Yeah it's not like there's a "Bear Central" or "Red Wolves Central" portion to Sully's sportscasts. He's just as much of Hog cheerleader as any of them. KARK decided to offer something different to the market, which is admirable considering there is really nothing that differentiates the stations in town in any other way.
The national news on NBC doesn't cover sports. Try another idea.
Maybe cheap a-holes should learn to buy basic cable. Cause Sully will still not give you any comprehensive coverage.
So if a good variety of sports content is the measuring stick then Wes has the best sportscast. He has access to 4's Hog coverage, covers the other universities and from what I've seen a very good high school coverage.
It takes an asshole to know an asshole. You're probably one of those pricks who is wondering why viewers watch cable or go to the web instead of your local station. Stupid decisions - like limiting your audience to Hog fans instead of trying to include as many viewers as possible. Got that, asshole?
11:56 is right! Good stations use the Wal-Mart approach. Appeal to many viewers. Nexstar is very small market minded.
@11:56, nope we know there are broke people like you who will always come to us. That, and the two most successful cable news programs belong to our affiliates in MSNBC and Fox News. Plus, we put our news on the Web and certainly hope people go there to watch it. But Wal-Mart greeters can't afford all that, so we still do a live newscast for people like you.
If 4 had such a good idea, why are they still down in the ratings?
Wes, who works for Nexstar, has more content and resources than anyone in the market. His sportscast is longer and he has more photogs to shoot stories. 7's ever dwindling photography staff must be hard on Sully. How many are they down to?
I'm sure Wal-Mart greeters make more money than you, considering all the low salary complaints on this blog. I can certainly afford anything I want. I don't waste money on 200 channels of Flo commercials. Stop bragging about the all cable stations "you" own. If you are so talented, you wouldn't be in a #57 market.
@6:11, they've been totally climbing in the ratings. What are you talking about?
Are they at the top? If not, they are still down.
That's very simple minded of you. "Down" just means falling in tv ratings. So they are not down. They are "up" because they are rising. And if you think that doesn't scare the sales people at 7 and 11, you are crazy.
Why doesn't Taco Bell sell hamburgers?
10:52, you are seriously stupid if that's what you think. Does your name start with an R, continue with an A, and end with a Y?
Does McD's sell tacos?
