Retrans Spat Turns Raycom's Stations Dark on Direct TV

The end of August has come and gone and yes Raycom has pulled a number of its stations off of Direct TV. This includes KSLA/Channel 12/Shreveport.. Oh what's that...that's right Raycom wants you to believe Direct TV is the bad guy in the retransmission spat.  On KSLA's facebook page, Channel 12 wants viewers to believe it's Direct TV's fault.  KSLA replies to many posts telling viewers it wants "fair market value" for its signal.  Well this is day 3 of the Raycom stations being dark on Direct TV. How long will it last...just what is the "fair market value" of the station's signal...

No loss, they don't have any shows I watch. I do have an antenna in case they happen to have something I want to see. It's funny when people complain about not being able to get a free over the air channel.

This has next to nothing to do with sarah fortner. You are better than this person running the site.

Well FWIW, KSLA still broadcasts some of their network programs in 4:3 aspect because they're too cheap to get a 16:9 server for delayed broadcast. CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood is just one example.
And yet they blather on about "High Definition", give me a break.

This from someone who asked DirectTV: " I spoke to Directv 10 minutes ago. If after a couple weeks, Raycom stops trying to ask for 400% more than the other local stations, Directv will begin showing east coast CBS station on channel 391. The ONLY downside will be the time things will be shown. So if the show you want to watch normally comes on at 7 here, it might come on at 6 instead.
Also if you call Directv now, they will give you a 10 dollar credit on your bill.
But know this, Directv did NOT stop showing channel 12. Raycom Media (KSLA's parent company) pulled it from the lineup. The only part Directv is playing in this, is trying to get the channel back on...without being extorted for 400% more money than the other local channels pay. Raycom had a sales profit of 700 million dollars last year. They are NOT hurting for money. So if you are going to blame someone, blame Raycom, not Directv."

I'd rather watch an east coast CBS station than KSLA any day.

"please translate the 4:3 ratio vs the 16:9 ratio deal for the non-industry people"

It's very simple... 4:3 is Square, 16:9 is rectangle as in HD widescreen. So when a station cuts their broadcast from 16:9 to 4:3, it's like your father's old TV set aspect ratio and not "High Def".
So KSLA is basically lying when they say they broadcast everything in High Definition 'cuz 4:3 isn't high def aspect ratio.

This also affects KAIT in Jonesboro.

if DirectTV viewers can't see a station, then advertisers are not getting as many potential viewers for their ad ... is Raycom cutting ad costs during blackout period? Bet not ... perhaps advertisers need to contact sales reps about refunds or discounting billing

THE NFL should MONITOR this situation Carefully , MONOPOLISTIC TACTICS by TV NETWORKS no matter which markets they SERVE should NOT BE allowed to RUIN the Goodwill and Sport of the Games. If Every Broadcaster doubled the fees to transmit ever other year the TV stations soon would be looking at who is killing the Golden Goose. GREED by Raycom sports is starting to KILL the Golden Goose. the CEO of Raycom also used this same tactic against DISH network in 2013. The NFL should have responded this SUMMER with some type of warning to TV networks.. where is the NFL Commissioner now ?

The 400% is pure bunk. And legally you can't get another CBS station. And if you do, guess what it will cost you $3. Which is much less than what Raycom is asking. Want to know why your cable bill is going up? It's all the sports channels. They demand close to $6 dollars and to be bundled in the lower packages. That's whats causing the increases not Raycom asking for 40 to 60 cents. Directv, DISH and Timewarner cable have been responsible for over 90% of all disruptions like this in the past 6 years.

The NFL is a monopoly. They get their billions from the networks. If they do anything it will be to support the affiliates not the cable companies.

To those who keep saying get an antenna, we tried, we got the ABC and NBC, no CBS. Yes I could sit and look at my laptop or phone, I don't want to. Not the same. Settle this.

One reason you couldn't get KSLA / CBS from your antennae is because Raycom-KSLA has cut their transmission power from Over-the-Air telecasts, instead they have relied on cable and satellite to deliver their signal. Well now Raycom / KSLA is trying to extort more money from DirectTV and in the process is doing their best to portray DirectTV as the bad guy. This is BULLSHIT! Raycom is trying to increase retransmission revenue by using shitty PR tactics and they are really sucking.
As far as I'm concerned...KSLA can go to Hell. KTAL is going to finally get bumped up in the ratings after KSLA goes off satellite for a quarter. The idiots at KSLA are shooting themselves in the foot. Dumbasses!

Find all this amusing because I don't really follow sports and I can't remember the last time I even tuned in to KSLA.
