Shreveport Morning Anchor Moves to Evenings...

Wendi Redman is moving to evenings at KTBS/Channel 3/Shreveport.  Friday was Redman's last day on the morning show.  She will now be anchoring the 5pm newscast for the station.

She was awful on the morning show...why would she be any better in the evening?....wait, only 30 minutes of her nasal whine versus 2 1/2 hours!

Is this for real? Seriously? She's the reason I stopped watching the morning newscast. Time to see what KSLA and KTAL have to offer.

But she's blonde. That's all that matters.

What happens to Jessica Crandall? She just started doing the 5pm newscast.

Has the news director there totally lost control?

I think everyone thought that Crandall wasn't ready for prime-time. Still don't understand why they took Jody off 5 & 6 as that's usually not a good sign for an anchor to get bumped like that.
Wendi will probably do better but I agree that the helium-voice will grate on my home-theater system. Looks like I'll have to mess with the EQ settings if I plan to watch and listen.

Wendi !!! Put the helium down...Step away from the balloon....

Im dont work in the tv news business or anything like that but is KTBS just becoming the worst news operation in the area?To be honest I quit watching 3 when they took Jody off 5 and 6. Stupid... Dont understand it.

Hey, that's television. Managements gets a wild hair and presto changeo.

Must be nice to change things up and see what happens. lol

I'll say it since nobody will, Jody lost it. She should have spent more time in the gym, and less time looking desperate on Facebook and drinking in public.
I think she is talented, and much better than her replacement, but the writing was on the wall.
Younger, Hotter, cheaper

I don't blame her. Drinking and gambling are the only things to do here.

I just wonder if after Jody gets married that they will be moving overseas and she's already planning on leaving.

Jody is a good anchor but TV is a visual medium and if you aren't going to accept the fact about how TV makes you look 10lbs heavier then you might as well do radio. Not saying non-skinny women can't make it on TV but they have to bring a lot to the game besides hairspray, makeup and prompter reading.
When they took Jody off 5 & 6 and making you do more reporting, that's a not-so-subtle hint to start looking. That happened with Liz (who stopped being warm & fuzzy towards people eons ago).
But why KTBS is hiring this neophytes with high school / community college TV skills is really crazy. But they've been lagging in ratings for the past few years so I guess no one really cares anymore.

I can't wait for KTBS to move into 3rd place.

I find with all the changes and shuffling of talent at KTBS that I watch less and less even though they're on more and more. It's getting that way with all the local stations really. Each station is equally bad IMHO. What happened to this market? It used to be stable with decent people on-air and behind the scenes.

The root of the problems with the local stations goes back almost 20 years to the mid 1990's. It all started at KTBS when they fired Andy and Wanda Pontz, and replaced Andy with satin. When he came in he ran off Al, Liz, Ed B, Eddie D, and lots of other staff. There have been dozens of on-air talent and non on-air staff who have come and gone since then. Then there was the big lay off several years ago when they fired 15 people the same day. About a year or two later, the upheaval moved from KTBS to KSLA. Ed Bradley ran off dozens of people. Both on-air and non on-air staff. Once Bradley left KSLA to run unsuccessfully for mayor, his replacement ran off all of Ed's people. KTAL was always the training station for both KTBS and KSLA, but with no compete clauses, they are not moving directly from one station to another like they once did. Surprisingly KTAL is the best looking station in the market right now. As a Shreveport native, and a former KTAL employee, I never thought this would happen.

Ah yes.......

Remember the old days when KTAL's morning show would consist of George Dobson sitting at a desk reading the morning newspaper?

Sometimes he would actually pickup the newspaper to presumably see it better.

Yes, those were the days before the blondes, hot figures, and/or teleprompter skills!

Wasn't that during the Johnson and Nixon administrations?

KTAL only has 4 blondes. Two females and two males. Unlike the Foxified KTBS.

Dobson was there during Nixon, Ford, Carter Administrations.

Stations have cut costs in talent and gotten into cutting costs in syndication fees by expanding local newscasts ad nauseum. Even though audience shares have (and still are) in decline, spot rates have remained steady. So advertisers are paying the same for less audience than ever before. But because it's TV, advertisers feel they still have to be on TV no matter what.
It would be like you paying the same for coffee but instead of getting 12oz...you're getting 10oz this year and 8oz the next ..OH..and they're watering it down a bit so you're paying the same for less volume, lousy tasting product but because you feel you have to have it, you're still willing to pay for it. Same with advertisers.

Love that "Foxified KTBS" comment! It's so true.

I don't mind Wendi's voice. It's nasal but it's not annoying. The new kid Carly Flynn Morgan, on the other hand, has a voice that puts my teeth on edge--just as nasal but with an attitude. Really nasty. I can't listen to her at all...fingernails on the chalkboard and all that. But she will be gone soon, like all the others. They all have a shelf life, you know.

Dreamy Wendy, a nasal voice sounds less authoritative and less professional.

Do yoga. It could cure your nasal problem.

Looking forward to your yoga segments at 5 P.M.!!

(Hey, KTBS let Eric James do exercise segments on Sunday mornings!)

I tried to watch the Channel Three News on Channel Twenty-one at 9pm tonight. The middle-aged blonde bimbo started to read what passes for news nowadays, and then suddenly a whole series of commercials started playing. I switched channels, and don't know what happened after that. But their problems go much deeper than on-air personalities. All any of the stations need for anchors is two young people, male and female, with pretty faces, well developed chests, and pleasant voices to sit there and read the news. More important to me than the news readers is the material being read. All they are reading on most stations nowadays is propaganda.

@2:41 AM When it comes to KTBS, the "pleasant voices" are strictly optional!

At 10:34 AM, February 10, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The women (Erin, Keristen, and Elsa) who were on KTBS this weekend should be the 5, 6 and 10 PM week days anchors and not relegated to weekend anchors. They have pleasant voices and very good enunciation. (...AND the women are NOT blonde!)

At 10:48 AM, February 10, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

As if that will happen at the Foxified KTBS. If you want to see non-blondes you have to watch KSLA and KTAL.

At 6:17 AM, February 11, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They have a token Negro at KTBS now, and he is doing commercials about his children to make sure everybody knows that KTBS has gotten rid of the single men, and caught on to single men not being of the same "family".

At 12:02 PM, February 11, 2014, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KTBS talent-pickers have always seemed to like blonde-from-a-bottle news readers and weather girls with whiny, helium and/or nasal voices.
Not sure if that's what their consultants recommend or if that's what management likes. But I think someone said is best somewhere on this blog: "like fingernails on a chalkboard".
