KARK GM Leaving for Ohio
A tipster sent us an e-mail that KARK General Manager Rick Rogala is leaving. ATN can confirm the tip. Rogala came to KARK in 2005. Rogala has been named vice president and general manager of WCMH-TV (Channel 4), Media General's NBC affiliate in Columbus, Ohio.

Praise the Lord! Another jerk hits the road...maybe next time NBC airs something "controversial" like "Book of Daniel" the viewers will have a chance to watch it in Little Rock. Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.
you obviously have never met the man...good guy Rick Rogala, sad to see him go
Without a doubt, the best GM I've ever worked for. Yes, I've worked for several. Best of luck Rick!
it'll be interesting to see what happens there. isn't there usually turnover with a new gm? it happened at ym station. they changed everyone.
Most people with any ethics spend a little time at Nexstar figure it out and leave with their souls.
OH NO! As a former KARK'er, the market is a better place with Rick...I haven't spoken to him since leaving, but I am going to miss knowing he is here...he is an amazing leader and individual. Rick, best of luck to you...Ohio is blessed.
This will be interesting to see what comments come up on this post. I will bet anyone on here that has the guts to show up and pay off the bet, that there will not be one bad comment on here about Rick from anyone who works at KARK. Any takers?
how would you even know if they really work there? that's a stupid bet. no, i don't work there and i'm pretty happy that i don't.
Mr. Rogala is a nice man and has done wonders for the station the year or so he has been here.
Too bad he can't get all the technical problems worked out before he leaves.
I hear KTAL's GM Scott Thomas is on the seat to move in?
You are not too bright huh? I go to pay them and would know at that point if they work there. However, I win the bet and no one shows. That's my point. No one will say anything. I'm guessing they go outside of the company again for this hire.

did rogala used to work in st. louis?
What ever happened to the days when I man got a job and kept it for any length of time? How many more times are you going to move your family before you retire Rick?

I wasn't happy about the whole TBOD fiasco, but TBOD sure wasn't NYPD Blue. That show would have lasted one or two shows had some of the NBC affiliates not gotten scared and caused interest in the show that otherwise would not have been. Rick when I emailed him about the preemption and my boycotting of the station wrote me personally about the situation.
Now look at KATV and see what kind of nominal ABC affiliate we have in Little Rock. Heck they preempt college football for informercials. Too bad it isn't Dale Nicholson Sr, or Dale III leaving town.
I agree with 5:17 about moving family. But the important thing is the family is together and knowing Rick, I cannot see him doing anything that would not benefit his family. I don't know if Rick was in St. Louis, but I know he worked in Florida, I think for a different Media General station. If anyone at KARK has anything negatie to say about Rick, they will be in the definite minority and you can find unhappy people anywhere you go. Rick is a standup guy and he will be missed. The comment about people with ethics eventually run from Nexstar, well, this is true, but it's a good thing when people like Rick and Mike Vaughn can be such a positive influence in the Nexstar organization, they need all the positive people they can get.
Go Rick!!! You deserve it! I have had a number of different GMs, and you are absolutely the best! Thank you for everything! You will be missed!
Wow, he must be made of candy to have journalists (you are journalists, right? After all, the little poem about "small" and "biting" minds implies such) say such nice things about him. If not, it's more likely y'all are a bunch of folks from sales department. You count too, but I'm not sure anyone who's had to report would kiss this man's bottom so much. He was a GM, and not even a great one. He should make sure he stays in the south where he'll be sure people are of like mind for his games.
A little bit of Perry Sook and Duane Lammers goes a long way.....trust someone who knows. They have to drink the Kool-Aid in copious amounts to stay at Nexstar.
I here that Russ Hamilton from the Nexstar Station in Champagin Il is the next GM at KARK.
He's a complete JERK!!!!! Fits will with Sook and Lammers....He also a crock!
More importantly, where has Jancey been the last few weeks?
"He should make sure he stays in the south where he'll be sure people are of like mind for his games."
Apparently you lack reading comprehension. He is going to Columbus, Ohio. That ain't in the "south."
It's Larry Audas. He's been talking to NEXTAR for quite a while. He said he was looking for another station to screw up and KARK was the best suited place for him. Congrats Larry.
Hey that's great! He can't even get anyone to train the studio technicians (button punchers)to properly control audio levels in the news shows and station breaks.
Worst technical dept. in the state.
Well, he has his work cut out for him at KARK too, but not audio.
Boy, when the sales staff isn't kissing up to the G.M. in person, they're doing it on this blog.
Who are you calling a sales person?
Is there any way at all that we can get some GM's in Little Rock that halfway know how to run a news program. That would be a DRASTIC improvement over what we have now.
BTW. Larry, why did you take the expresso machine.
Rick Iler is coming back as the GM. He always wanted it and he was Nexstar's "Golden Boy."
Talk about rats jumping ship.
what rats?? and what ship?? You are an idiot!!
KTHV ran their weathe warning map over local commercials in their 5 p.m. news show, then put it in the lower right corner during the CBS news at 5:30 p.m.(covering part of CBS's effects window), then put it back in the lower left corner for the 6 p.m. news show. True talent.
KARK has Melissa Simas. That is all it needs for success!
Kristin Fisher is the emerging dove on Arkansas television
Speaking of doves, Michelle Rupp is looking good lately !

Rumors going around FOX is GM Chuck Sphoon has been told by new owners, Newport Television, that they don't need his services.
Looks like the DOS Bob Dunn also is being let go.

RE: Required reading for next station meeting from Fuel by Rick Rogala
For our final station meeting together before I leave for Ohio, where they know how to play football, please read the following chapters in my book FUEL
26: It's not me, so it must be you. The hard truths about seperation
and
32: Company Takeover: How replacing the suits at the top with mentally defective people would cause things to improve.
And since this is my last meeting I would like to make the post-meeting group hug mandatory.
Who is going to conduct the post-meeting review session? The new GM ???
Get rid of matt the cheif photographer too, he is a real B****.
That's about par for the course. The good ones move on and the bad ones just hang on forever.
...That show would have lasted one or two shows had some of the NBC affiliates not gotten scared and caused interest in the show that otherwise would not have been....
Agreed. I just found it amazingly weak-willed, no-backbone, wishy-washy, cave in to Focus on the Family kind of stuff. If they don't at least have the moral backbone to stick with that, why should I believe them in anything else they say? I'm not against "moral relativism" per se, but this was a mistake that still leaves me ticked off. I can't say as I don't understand someone forced to do that, but to do it with as much relish as he seemed to do it, I just can stomach another morals czar who thinks he knows better than his viewers what they should see (not what they WANT to see, but what he personally thinks they SHOULD see) - I'm glad to see him go, and if there are any more of his kind lurking about, they should pack up and move with him.

Here is a news bulletin for you:
The stations run what the sponsors want to see, not the viewer. How long have you been in the business?
Here is news to the above poster:
The stations run what the viewers want to see, because, advertisers want as many viewers as possible. I mean, what station would use no-talent female anchors who are flat-chested and boring? Or use male anchors who are more concerned about their hair than John Kerry in a windstorm? Oh wait, lots of them would!
Did the above poster say windstorm?
It should be WINTER STORM !!!!!!!
Maybe the new gm will hold people responsible for the horrible looking product that is their newscast. They are always having technical errors. They completly lost the weatherman's live report. It looked ridiculous. Happens all the time over there. Is their equipment made in China? My kid's high school puts on a smoother product. They wonder why they are in the cellar.
To the above poster:
Didn't you ever hear "Don't Drink and Blog??"
Is their equipment made in China?
Everythings made in China. Thanks to Wla-Mart.
The stations run what the viewers want to see, because, advertisers want as many viewers as possible . . .
Here is a final lesson. No, on second thought, it's not worth the effort to try and explain the economics of broadcasting to someone that is not management material. Push onward thru the fog.
Well said 7:49 PM. I don't know what's worse, language like that on this blog or that drunk woman hitting on me at the Huddle House last night.
Every station loses live shots from time to time. IT'S LIVE TV!
Best GM since David Jones.
