Roberts Leaves KARK
Arkansas TV News can confirm that KARK anchor Barbara Roberts has resigned and will not be returning to the station following maternity leave. Roberts' last day on the air at KARK was August 15,2006.

Barbara Roberts is a class act lady. I assume she resigned to spend more time with her children while they are young. I wonder if Melissa or Matt will be her replacement. I think they are both doing a wonderful job on the morning shows, especially Melissa. Best wishes to Barbara and her family.
Heck no! Kim Betton will be her replacement! No coincidence KARK snatched her up!

Why on earth would anyone want to see Kim Betton on a regular basis!?! She's a terrible reporter, and did a horrible job while fill-in anchoring. I can't understand why KARK picked her up from Fox!!
I think she did a wonderful job and any mom would feel the same way. You miss out on those special moments, and the tv biz isn't just an 8 hour a day job. I hope the best for her.

Why can't you Clear Channel people seem to learn that simply saying something nice about somebody doesn't erase the fact that you lied to and screwed them?
Kim is a welcome addition to KARK.

Barbara was the most boring news anchor I have ever seen. Watching the noon show on KARK was like death become us....always fell asleep within the first minute

Barbara was a good anchor, and Alice was a good anchor/reporter. I'd watch either of them over Dawn Scott and Pam Smith.

I always enjoyed watching Barbara on the early morning show. I never had a chance to see her on the noon show, though. As for the morning show, I hardly watch it anymore because I find Matt Mosler to be so annoying.
At least we don't have to see Barbara's weave anymore !
katv has no interest in finding real reporters who know how to dig up and investigate stories. they go for the good-looking college grads who think they're doing a good job by smiling and giggling into the camera.

Kristin Fisher is a great example of that. She looks great but has no talent. I mean it seems it would take EFFORT to stay as monotone as she does when reading, but she does ! Same thing with that new blonde (chemically blonde) anchor woman that KATV hired. No emotion, just robotic reading.
Chris Castleman is the true CLOWN of Arkansas television. He frosts his hair, wears too much make-up and dresses like a pimp. And he loved slamming Mr. Food. Too bad that Mr. Food has a bigger career than Chris ever will! I mean, doing morning weather in Jonesboro, how bad can it get ?
IS the winter storm reference about Tom Brannon? I was watching tv this morning and noticed he said it a couple of times.....just wondering because I don't know.

You have got to be kidding. It's like watching local access in Peoria, IL. Melissa and Matt act like a frat boy and sorority sister.
They just finished up a featured segment where Matt brought Melissa (a norhtener) duck hunting for the first time. It was ridiculous, a slight to real duck hunter. All Channel 4 wanted to do was to bring out the pretty girl and dress her up and as she acted like a stereotypical helpless female. They should just make a reality shoe and be done with it.
Melissa Simas should be ashamed to let her image as a journalist be sullied by these ratings stunts. She looks cheap. Matt looks cheap for playing along and making comments about Melissa's looks. Most of all, Channel 4 looks cheap for allowing this to go on air.

Sounds like the above poster is very resentful and jealous. I found the story quite interesting, but I guess I am a "stereotypical helpless female" also. Several people at my work enjoyed the story. It made great "water cooler conversation". Several hunters (male and female) started telling the first hunt (deer, duck...)stories and about what happened when children and grandchildren went hunting the first time. Personally, when my Dad took me hunting, I cared nothing for the cold & my feet got wet inside my boots. I never went back again. Kudos to Melissa for getting out there and being willing to go back again. In my opinion, KARK did what the story was probably meant to do...get people talking and watching. Ask the advertisers and sales teams anywhere, nothing cheap in that.

That's absolutely the truth. Not just the morning shows... but most of the evening shows as well.
I thought Matt's comments about Melissa's looks were inappropriate, and certainly irrelevant to duck hunting. The KARK morning show is still the best one on local TV and Melissa does a good job at the anchor desk. But in my opinion, Tracy Douglass is the best part of the show. She certainly is the most versatile, doing live shots, weather fill ins, interview segments and now Arkansas Showcase. My understanding is she has been contacted on more than one occasion by Frank Magid and Associates. Apparently her talents are also appreciated by those outside of Arkansas.

Yep, it is serviced by Mountain Valley or whatever the bottled water company is with the blue label. It's real fancy and heats the water up for us also. Makes us all feel real special when we make hot chocolate.

Apparently the choice of words I used to describe why I felt Tracy was the best part of the KARK morning show, had a few to many syllables in them for you. I came to this conclusion since your comment refering to her physical attributes was obviously a reflection of your vast vocabulary and high intellect. Tell me oh anonymous one, how did you come this incredible revelation?
Was this meant to be a compliment to Tracy or a slight? Did you intend to insult Melissa also? Or, maybe ... just maybe ... a truly original, intelligent thought is just to difficult for you and high school locker room talk is all you can muster.

Barbara's hair wasn't real?
You could always tell that it was a windy day because Barbara's hair would be off-center.
Her hair looked good every day. More importantly, she seemed to do a good job. Too bad the station isn't telling viewers what's going on. Many will still be wondering when she's coming back from maternity leave.

She did NOT say on air that she wouldn't be returning from maternity leave. In fact, Melissa said on the noon show just two or three weeks ago that she was "in for Barbara Roberts."
It's fine and dandy if she wants to be with the kids but viewers have a right to know that a familiar face won't be returning.
So no one is trying to say anything sinister but you.
Pay attention to the facts and "DUH" yourself.

It took Barbara FOREVER to finally learn how to read script. She was boring and made mistake after mistake. Maybe KARK can do a better job in the future hiring experienced and prepared reports/anchors.
Chris Castleman is the CLASS of Arkansas TV. He's polished. Smooth. And easy on the eyes. On top of which he is truly a good guy. Don't be a hater. Castleman's been places in this business most of us will never see. Good luck Chris.
