NBC Hums Brian's Song

Source: New York Post NBC and ABC continued their evening news war into the May sweep, with both finding something to cheer about.

"NBC Nightly News" averaged 8.6 million viewers during the May sweep, compared with ABC "World News Tonight's" 8.3 million. ("CBS Evening News" remained a distant third at 6.6 million.)

"NBC Nightly News" executive producer Steve Capus said that with the change in anchors from Tom Brokaw to Brian Williams in December, "World News Tonight" had its sights set on the top spot.

"The fact is that we're still sitting here in first place," Capus said.

"World News Tonight," however, has been without Peter Jennings, who has been off the air since early April when he began undergoing treatment for cancer.

Still ABC won in the older, 25-49 demographic, the key news-watching group.
