KATV Rolls At Murrows

Source: Broadcasting and Cable KATV Little Rock, Ark., took home two Edward R. Murrow awards, the most of any station--for overall excellence in small-market television and documentary--as the Radio-Television News Directors Association handed out its top prizes for excellence in electronic journalism Monday.

NBC News led the national news outlets, with four awards, but CBS News won for overall excellence, one of its two wins. ABC News’ World News Tonight was also a winner and ABC News Radio took three awards, including overall excellence in radio news.

Among cable networks, MTV News won in the news documentary spaces, while ESPN was recognized for feature reporting and CNN for writing.

The awards will be presented at the RTNDA Awards Dinner on October 17, 2005, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York. RTNDA has been awarding Murrows, named after the former CBS reporter and news executive, since 1971.

They submitted Nightside. They won for their documentary 396 Days and for overall small market excellence.

They'd better enjoy it while they can. The ratings will be in soon and the party may come to a screeching halt.

KATV used to be my absolute favorite station. I feel for them now. They are horrible. I only tune to Today's THV and sometimes they just annoy me. Luckily at 5:00 we have The Simpsons - thanks Fox 16.

Denise Whitaker won those awards for KARK... she's a great journalist and is now kicking butt in Seattle. We dearly miss her.

KATV won the awards because they do good work... too many people on this site seem to have an ax to grind.

Oh my God!!!! I know you didn't say they won those awards because of Denise Whitake? They wan those awards despite the fact she was on the desk. She was really bad. I really like Jancey and think she will good for them...

Denise Whitaker is bad? Okay, there's a real disconnect from reality here. Denise got hired for a morning anchor job... in one of the biggest markets in the country. Denise is very, very good.

Wow!!! Evening anchor to morning anchor... What a great jump... Let her bore them back to sleep in seattle... She was not good and she was not the reason they won murrows...

I did not realize that KARK won 2 national murrows last year. I think it says a lot about Little Rock that a station last year and KATV this year have won so many national murrows. Congrats to both!!!

Denise moved from the No. 50 market to the No. 12 market. That seems very positive to me... the Denise hater above just can't admit it.

I would agree with you. There are so many agendas here. I wonder when the TV community in Arkansas will stop tearing at each other?

Has KTHV won any Murrows?

I got a better idea let's all go down and jump on KATV 7 and hit them from all angles and hit them hard and fast and make it quick and neat.

Here's an idea... how about we generally support our local TV people, instead of slamming them constantly? They're just people trying to do good work. These people who say the shows are "awful" are just wrong.

Ughh, Denise Whitaker haters.. you all are so right. She is here in Seattle at the ABC affiliate, Komo 4.
Worst anchor in awhile. I'm not sure how she did the news in your area, but here she pauses in between every other 3 or 4th word. Not sure if she is going for some special effect but her anchor abilities are annoying at best. When she's out in the field reporting, she's ok, but when she's behind the desk, changing the channel is the only solution. Will some other station in some other state please take her??
