Capus Caps Nightly News

Source: Broadcasting and Cable Steve Capus has been named the number two exec at NBC Nightly News, replacing Bill Wheatley, who announced his retirement in April.

Capus, who has been executive producer of the half-hour weekday news broadcast with Brian Williams, becomes senior VP, NBC News.But his purview reaches beyond the broadcast to overseeing specials, newsgather ng and breaking news for the network, including arbitrating issues of ethics and standards for the news division.

Capus has been Nightly News EVP since May 2001. Before that, he was executive producer of MSNBC's The News with Brian Williams.

Capus has been working literally day and night for NBC during much of his career. His credits over the past include producer of NBC News Sunrise, supervising producer on Today and senior producer NBC Nightside.

He can even talk shop with his wife when he gets home. She is Sophia Faskianos, a Dateline NBC special segment producer. Replacing Capus as executive producer is John Reiss, who has been senior producer of the broadcast since January 2002.
