KATV Weekend Met Position Open
Looks as though KATV is looking to fill a few good jobs INCLUDING the weekend met's position. SO with that said is current weekend Met Devon Lucie leaving? I have noticed Devon is nowhere to be seen in the "KATV is Weather" promos.

Too bad. He was good. Lots of potential.
Devon sure was good... lots of energy and personality. You know who else is great? Brett over at KARK. He's the best talent on that station. In fact, the KARK morning show would be better with two hours of straight weather !
Speaking of Devon, that leads me to KATV.
So, what's up with Michelle Rupp? She's been there forever, maybe 5 or 6 years? That's a lifetime in reporter years.
But most days she doesn't get the lead story. It's more and more falling to Jessica Morkert, who is really good, by the way.
Is Devon really leaving, or are they just hiring another meteorologist so Devon can cover the mornings and Sat. Daybreak? When is he leaving? His bio is still on the website & he was on air all weekend. He's so great- you think they could have shelled out some more $$ to entice him to stay. They don't need to lose one of their few great on-air personalities.
What a cruel twist for Arkansas... Devon might be leaving, but, Mike Francis is staying? It's a dark day in Little Rock... seems the dark side of the force is taking hold.
Just not enough talent... nor enough money... to go around the Natural State.
Best of luck to Devon. He truly understands the science of meteorology. He's the most accurate meteorologist around.... probably why he's moving on. KATV will surely miss him.
There is an obvious reason Michelle Rupp doesn't get the lead story and has been there there forever. Just watch almost any story she does and compare it with others in the market. She's just not that good. After being there for so long, she has improved as much as she possibly can. She just doesn't have what it takes. Jessica Morkert is improving nicely though. After Christina Munoz and Beth Hunt moved to other gigs she is quickly becoming KATV's best reporter. Has to be somewhat disheartening for Michell to see so many reporters come and go while she just stays where she is.
Good Luck Devon, you will be missed on the weekends!
You think Jessica will be the next "star" reporter in this market? She seems to be moving that direction.
If Jessica is that good she'll be gone in less then 2 years. Only bad reporters that can't make it anywhere else stick around long enough to become the "stars" of the market. That's what local TV is in the Rock. A bunch of hacks that can't move on.
I meant a "star" before getting out of town. Remember that McLarty chick who was SO hot at KATV and then went to Dallas? That's what I mean. Is Morkert the next "it girl" in town ?
If hanging around this market forever is bad... how do you feel about Alice Stewart? Isn't she about 45 years old ?
You all must be a bit on the young side - don't remember the glory days of KARK. When Carolyn Long, Roy Mitchell, Tom Bonner and Dave Woodman had been together for years and the station kicked *ss in the numbers. But, back then, management was willing to pay to keep good people.
Some reporters love Arkansas and choose to stay here. Alice Stewart, Jason Pederson, Pamela Smith. Great reporters who choose to live here. By the way.. Jessica Morkert isn't all that. I think you're just comparing her to what else 7 has to offer.. and that ain't much.
Jessica Morkert is not that cute. She's a better reporter than Anne Pressly, who is annoying to watch. She was so annoying on Daybreak on Saturday. She said "absolutely" one too many times!
The glory days? Maybe it was cool to have news sponored by Geritol and Efferdent back in the old days... but not now. Anchors and reporters don't drive a horse and buggy to work anymore.
Trust me if the KATV braintrust thought they could make money off of it, we'd have a big Geritol Logo or Fleet Enema on the set. You'd see them everyday just before we went to horse and buggy 7. Arkansas only live horse drawn news vehicle.
Sounds like you work at the station? Barbara Roberts got a colonoscopy for sweeps... wonder if somebody at KATV would take an on-air enema? You know, take one for the team ?
Barbara Roberts is WAY too intelligent to be wasting her time with Mike Francis every morning. I bet her IQ has dropped 20 point since she's been here... being that close to Mike will do that. Barbara needs her own, in-depth news magaizine. Something where she can use her brain... and we can too.
As of now, her most intelligent line of the morning is: " And now let's see what's cooking with Mr. Food! "
Katv has a few really good on air people now. Jessica Morkert is rising to the tops as a reporter but Beth Hunt and Christina Munoz were the "star reporters" before they both took their respective host and anchor duties. They both are doing awesome in their new roles. Too bad Beth Hunt is now stuck on a show that is having problems and is marginal at best. Christina Munoz is doing wonderul in the 10:00 spot. If she is able to stay around for a while (Katv paying to keep her) she could become a real asset anchoring all three spots if Kate leaves or doesn't last. Anne Pressly has a long way to go before she can hold her own in this or any other market. Does she have any smaller market experience? It seems like alot of the mistakes or wierd things she does are usually worked out before you make it to this size market.
Why did Kate get pulled from the 10 show? She's clearly the best "total package" in the state, but, now she has to do reporting and anchoring. Maybe that's what she wanted, because, she is so strong at storytelling. I think she does a fantastic job.
Christina is doing great... and so is Beth. Give her morning show 6 more months and it will be a hit. Just takes time.
Jessica is the class of KATV's reporters and maybe the best in the state. Cecilea Pond-Mayo is a very strong journalist but doesn't always present well.
Leave Michelle Rupp alone i think she is doing good and she can stay as long as she want's to and i think she is doing a fine job and she is darn cute too and if i had her as my girmfriend she will be the happiest woman on earth and u go michelle i will be rooting you on and looking at the other cutie pie Beth Hunt also and evan if i had Beth Hunt as my friend she will have a smile on her face all the time also and be a lot happier than she is now and evan down to my last breath i would efend them with honor and i love these two women and keep doing what your doing.
Kate got pulled off of the 10 because Munoz got an offer in a another town. This makes Beth upset because she had been told she'd get a chance to anchor. So she gets the conciliation prize of Daybreak.
Meanwhile Kate can't be all too happy with getting demoted for do nothing less then a great job. It is not a very happy shop around here. The mice are looking for any chance they can to jump ship.
Funny thing is Pam Smith is never mentioned anywhere for promotions. I guess somethings never change.
If Pam Smith wanted to move ahead at KATV she shouldn't have stopped caring about the show or her position as soon as she realized she would never be fired. She could never carry a weekday show. JUst not enough energy.
I think Christina Munoz is great at 10:00, I can't wait until she has all three shows.
Maybe these people are happy to be where they are.. just living life and having fun. Ever thought about that?
Munoz is not that good at all. If you want proof... close your eyes and just listen to her read a story. Her pattern is exactly the same on every story, she pauses in the wrong places and puts emphasis on the wrong syllables. It is stupid to poromote someone just because they have an offer in a bigger market and even more stupid not to take that offer.
So, if what you're syaing is true and Beth both got her new gig because she complained about Christina becoming the 10 anchor... did Julia get booted because she was too nice to complain? What is the thinking over at 7? The ratings on the "show everyone is talking about" will sure be interesting.
Television is a visual medium... but you're right that 90% of TV journalists don't even consider the pace and tone of their voice. Listening to Paul Harvey on the radio every day should be required for all TV personalities. But give the TV people a break... they have a lot to juggle.
Best overall in this market? I would have to say Beth Hunt.
Beth and Christina deserve any promotions they have received. Seriously, if you were starting a new station in this market, wouldn't you want those two? Sure you would.
I wish Dewayne Graham had retired before he lost 100% of his credibility. His afternoon show is funny... sitting there alone in a dark studio... with maybe a half-dozen people watching. Won't be long before he quits that job, too, and starts his own internet site with a web-cam. Scary stuff.
If KATV is so bad... why does it dominate the discussion in here? Here's why... because people are watching. KTHV is almost never mentioned. See my point?
KATV used to set the standard that everyone else in LR followed. NOW KATV seems to be in dissarray leaving viewers and LR industry people wondering what's happening.
KTHV seems to be getting it's act together while KARK is still looking for the direction it wants to go. When the #'s come out here soon, all will see who is watching what.
And then more numbers will come out... and more... and more. At least give KATV credit for trying new things.
No way... you can't give credit for stupid ideas. It's just like Coke. Remember New Coke? That was stupid and they went back to Coca-Cola Classic!
If nobody tried new things... we would still live in caves and chase animals for our meals.
Not everything works, but, I say the majority of KATV's shows work.

Dewayne Grahm's show is probably the funniest thing on local television. Thankfully we don't live in a metered market so I can get my afternoon laugh without giving him ratings. I don't think I've ever heard him give any actual advice other than give out phone numbers that anybody else could find in about 30 seconds. Then again, we do live in Arkansas and you have to be able to read to find something in the phonebook. Maybe they're on to something.
What does all this have to do with the weekend weather position being open at 7?

KATV,DAle Nickerson,Randy Dixion and Rusty Mizel is the problem.
Prediction time....from the radac 2400 prediction machine. KATV will hire a female meteorologist to replace Devon. She will eventaully replace Melinda on Daybreak and Melinda will be back on weekends. All this will happen before the new season launches on the network.
Replace the entire daybreak crew and while they are at it get rid of Dale Nickerson,Randy Dixion and Rusty Mizel.
KATV can't replace that dreadful morning crew for some time, because they spent so much on that promo shoot in New York... which around the station is called Randy's little drinking excursion on the company.
If you swear it's not going to be a version of the View then why go to NY? If it's suppoed to be about local news, why go to NY?
Let's get rid of Dale Nickerson,Randy Dixion and Rusty Mizel and rusty i know that you are reading this i hope you will take this to heart you have no heart for this kind of work so wahy don't you step aside and let Michelle Rupp take your place and Randy Dixion let Beth hunt take your place and this job is not suiting you two clown's for that poistion and i believe these two fine ladies are better for this job than you two asshole's and Michelle Rupp deserves the job of being the General Manager and she is more hip in society and down to earth than that baldheaded guy.

I would like to see KATV try to get Marc Weinberg back in this market. He was a super meteorologist who got a bum deal at KTHV when Ed Buckner started fearing that Marc was going to get promoted and Ed demoted.
Marc is great and I would like to see him back in the market. And I know I may get blasted for this one but I think Shea Rial deserves another chance on air again. The incident that occured at KTHV was not all his fault. The news director told him to do whatever it took to keep people watching the golf tournament with Tiger Woods while the weather was threatening. He made a mistake but he deserves another chance to prove himself. Barry Brandt would be a good influence and mentor for him.
Oh, By the way. Why did Ed's wife divorce him? I have heard rumors but I wish someone would confirm them.
The one person getting the worst treatment at KATV is Steve Powell. The show was doing fine and they take him off for a ripoff of the view. It made no sense. He deserves to be back on Daybreak while Nicole and Sharese needs to be fired.
Steve is a fantastic host and reporter.
Ed is divorced and his job is the cause and also the divorce rate amongst TV people with job's are high anyway and both sexes will be stuck with the baby and eventually get back togeather when they get old and no one want's them and then they break up for good.
Ed is divorced? That's so sad. He seems like such a nice guy. Will he stay in this market? I know he has children who are in school.
Ed became obsessed with getting rid of Marc Weinberg. Marc was becoming increasingly popular with the public while Ed was losing his luster and his credibility for bragging on Craig O'Neil for his stupid antics.
Ed became jealous of Marc and did everything he could to get him to leave. Marc did not want to leave. Ed bad mouthed him across the community to where he Marc got no more appearances. Ed is not as nice as he seems.
Out of respect for his wife, I won't go into the real reason for Ed's divorce.
ABOUT JESSICA MORKERT, she most likely will be the next "star" that's what happened to her here in Arizona...she started as reporter and just weeks later...replaced the head anchor at the cbs station in Yuma...she was only here a few months before she moved on to Arkansas...that was the fastest we've seen someone come and go in the desert southwest!

Anne Pressly is young and will improve in time. She is good looking and has a lot of energy. Kiss my ass but I like her...
Arkansas needs Shea Rial back. KATV hire Shea at KATV. He deserves another chance.
Get Rid of that bald headed guy Dale Nickerson that ought to do it and clean out that whole dept at KATV Exec's and work their way down and that should do it.
