This from the tip jar:

Kevin who?

Good for Kevin. Even being third string in a Top 10 market pays a lot more then the same position in this burg.

He will be missed.

StormTracker Kevin is gone?

Oh darn.....

At 11:54 AM, September 22, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Only Steven Parr uses the StormTracker Steve name. Kevin and Ron do not. StormTracker Steve sounds like a character on Mr. Roger's or Sesame Street. Very childish.

I hate the storm tracker steve...... so childish....I refuse to watch his weather because of the stupid name.

I agree with the two previous comments.

Good luck in Dallas Kevin! You will have tons of personal and professional opportunities there which Shreveport does not offer.

KSLA can start a new promo touting Storm Tracker "Steve" and News Reader "That's so Raven".......

"Today boys and girls, we are going to have some fun weather. Can you say occluded front? Good, I knew you could."

StormTracker Steve sounds so cartoonish. It's pandering to a simple-mindset... but then again this is the ArkLaTex we're talking about.
And like it or not, KSLA is still number 1 in news in all dayparts.

"StormTracker Steve sounds cartoonish?" No, it is cartoonish.

At 7:59 PM, September 25, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, I have to agree with the previous comment on that one.

I am so sad Cute Kevin has moved on. He was the only one at KSLA that does not get on my nerves.

At 1:26 PM, September 26, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Most if not all the KSLA on-air personalities talk like a bunch of put-on cartoon characters. They come off smarmy, phony, plastic.

If I accidentally land on their newscast I can't switch it fast enough to another channel.
When I go on vacation to other cities I can't help but notice how more polished the TV news people are. Guess it's just Shreveport attracts a certain on-air type I suppose.

At 5:42 PM, September 26, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It all depends on the market. Some markets are more polished then others.

At 9:39 PM, September 26, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

You got that right. Dallas, Houston, and Jacksonville FL are noticeably more polished. Little Rock, Fayetteville-Rogers, and Temple-Waco are just as bad, if not worse, then Shreveport.

Shreveport has too many hicks, some with college degrees. It's just that simple.

up yours

That's what hillbillies do ain't it?
Cue the banjo music.

At 4:52 PM, October 02, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's true 4:42 PM, and one of those hicks with a college degree keeps getting re-elected every two years.

At 8:24 PM, October 02, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hah! I got a chuckle from the too many hicks remark. I can relate and heck I'm even from here. And I too am amazed at the hicks in politics who get elected.
But back to local TeeVee types. Yep, they do appeal to yokels fer sure, fer sure!

Like oh my god! You're from here, but you're totally using valley girl speak? How like totally 1982 of you.

At 11:06 PM, October 03, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Fer Sure? Valley Girl-speak? I hear that all the time at work from the guys in the shop and they're from Haughton. :)

At 1:21 PM, October 04, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

LMAO Ondrya!
11:06 PM Tell the 31 years out of date Haughton boys in the shop "fer sure" is a "Valley Girl" term, also known as "Valspeak," which was documented in the Frank and Moon Unit Zappa song "Valley Girl" (1982), and the film "Valley Girl" (1983) staring a young newcomer named Nicolas Cage.

At 8:55 PM, October 04, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Crap! Now I'm probably going to be picking up on hearing people say:
Fer Sure when I'm out and about.
It's like a bad tune you can't get out of your head. I hear people use "Oh Totally" when responding to with a question for confirmation. I always felt that was SoCal speak.

I'm watching the noon newscast and it's horrible. KSLA gets worse and worse every time I'm back in town. How in the world are they #1? They are pitiful.

At 3:22 PM, October 10, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Maybe it's like someone commented earlier about the Shreveport market having an abundance of shall we say: "Less sophisticated viewers"?
KSLA with it's schmaltzy--Yuk! Yuk!--hokey as hell TV personalities appeals to a certain mindset.
And given the fact that KSLA also seems to appeal more to Af. Americans (who make up most of Shreveport & Caddo Parish) as well as appealing to elderly viewers who keep thinking Bob Griffin will show back up on 12 any day now...it's no wonder KSLA skews higher in the ratings. Sad but true!

At 5:45 PM, October 10, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KSLA needs to be gutted. Production quality does not exist there any more. When I worked at KSLA we would have been fired for putting out a product like that. I have seen them do it many times, but that was under past ND's and GM's.
Then their's that current talent pool. Keep two or three and get rid of the rest. They're horrible! It's long past time for a new ND as well. I only get back to town 2 or 3 times a year, and I am so thankful I don't have to watch that crap every day, much less work there.

At 8:38 PM, October 10, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

One of the weather-dorks on KSLA either sounds congested or constipated or both when he speaks. It's soooo broadcast-fakey sound.

And the anchors ...instead of just speaking...their delivery is just awful. Stop trying to be oh so articulate ..just read the GD copy on the prompter and be less glib and hokey. When I hear them, I vomit a little in my mouth and switch to something else.

At 9:49 PM, October 10, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Who can hear them when their mics are constantly clipped and/or turned off?

At 12:31 PM, October 11, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's pretty clear that KSLA doesn't have properly trained staff switching the newscasts. I don't know what their technical set-up is but it is clearly flawed.
This station is really full of themselves as they go on and on about "Coverage You Can Count On" . . . the only thing I can count on is the number of times they screw up a broadcast. People must watch just to have some noise in the room.

At 1:48 PM, October 11, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm surprised Jayne is still there, and that she's been allowed to let production slide as far as it has. That was not tolerated when we started at KSLA. If Jayne can not do any better then that, she should be replaced as ND, and go back to producing.

At 7:43 PM, October 13, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ehhh...as long as KSLA still keeps at #1 or close to it, nothing will change. The management there is complacent or incompetent or a combination of both. The technical side of KSLA has suffered for years. I still see programs being broadcast in 4:3 aspect and some of the live remotes have signal issues. It's all smoke & mirrors, as long as they have purdy graphics with the hokey stingers and they look clean in the studio, nothing much matters. That and income is more than costs.

KSLA stands for:
Keeps
Spending
Low
Always

At 2:00 PM, October 14, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

And that is what's so sad. Many of us worked our asses off, and had a product that deserved that #1 rating. KSLA does not deserve it with the product they are putting out. Honestly, they should be #3, and gulp, I never thought I would say this, but KTAL should be #2. Even with their issues, KTAL is 100 times better then they were for decades.

At 8:26 PM, October 15, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KTAL has never looked or sounded better. I think a lot of their trailing in the ratings has to do with how they've branded themselves. Seriously..the ArkLaTex Homepage is a joke as the name says nothing of the station and seems to be designed as a separate entity. And they could stand to have some depth in their staff instead of all these just-out-of-college newbies. They all sound like they should be working on a homecoming float or something..their voices grate on my ears.
KTAL must not have any adult supervision regarding their branding or their focus. Too bad, you'd think after 10 yrs of Nexstar, they'd be a solid number 2 by now and it's there for the taking. They're just too dumb to figure it out I suppose.

At 12:57 PM, October 16, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree, KTAL has never looked better, but it is actually it's 13 years of Nexstar management, or mis-management, however you care to look at it. KTAL's biggest problem is having a control freak micro-managing the station from corporate. As far as talent goes, that will never improve because of the very low pay, which Nexstar is notorious for. Until that changes KTAL will always have reporters in their first or second jobs out of J school.

At 6:14 PM, October 16, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is KTAL still simulcasting Little Rock Noon News to KTAL? I've not watched KTAL mid-day for this reason. I'm not in the TV business but even I know this is a stupid move as no one in NW La. or E. Texas gives a Rat's A## about Little Rock or Central Ark. News.
WTH are they thinking?

At 7:31 PM, October 16, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Seems like someone must be referring to Blake at corporate. This guy should be working at a car dealership instead of television. Or I see him as an associate pastor at some mega-church where everyone praises George Dubya Bush. He must have some major, major suction going on to get where he has because I don't get it.
And apparently viewers in the ArkLaTex don't either. That's why KTAL Sucks in the ratings.

At 8:24 PM, October 16, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

@ 6:14 PM
Yes, KTAL is, and will continue airing the statewide newscast Arkansas Today from their regional hub, KARK NBC4 in Little Rock. It is free content and is not going away. You are not alone in this. The people in Monroe, Vicksburg, Branson, and Joplin, feel the same way since it is aired on the Nexstar owned NBC stations there as well.

@7:31 PM
Of course I am referring to "he who must not be named." I do love your associate pastor line, but would not work out. Especially at FBC Bossier and First Duron. There's only room for major ego at those churches and those positions are already filled.

At 5:00 PM, October 18, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The executive staff over in Irving are all male and lily-white sales-dorks. Not a real broadcaster among them, that's why Nexstar sucks. It's a slash & burn --paint by the numbers...if it works here, it'll work there kind of management style.
Guess as long as Sook & the Nexstar cronies can stay ahead of debt and keep their paychecks coming, nothing matters.

At 5:15 PM, October 24, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

KSLA, please stop doing live shots and live remotes until you learn white balance your cameras. It looks like shit!!!

At 8:33 PM, October 24, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Exactly. I was watching the 5:00 and it looked terrible. It's more visible proof KSLA could care less how bad their on-air product looks.

Must be color blind to work there.

The new weatherguy at KSLA does a good job, I imagine he'll be gone inside of 2 yrs or less for a better gig somewhere else if he's smart.

No doubt.
