Like flies.... There will be more with the leaders they have. They can't hire anyone.

Must not have paid them enough? I really liked Max, he was one of the best guys they had and looked mature. All the others look like they just left high school and don't speak well. I just can't watch them anymore, it's like watching a Monty Python movie.

Did Max ever anchor?
He is probably the senior reporter and I expected to see him fill in on shows but never caught him. Especially now that Stefanie left the noon show.

Is the noon show going to a current reporter? PLEASE NO!

THV has officially tanked. One of the worst decisions was to abandon the Today's THV brand. It had grown weak, but was replaced with absolutely no brand whatsoever. Their news product is lazy, tired, and chock full of no chemistry from the morning show to late news. Maybe their strategy is to hit rock bottom before they attempt a turn around???

Duff is not a large loss from what I can tell. Max Seigle brought more credibility to their news quality and presentation. He will be missed. No idea who Stephen O. is or his contribution. Hopefully Daniel Wilkerson can pick up the torch. He has greatly improved in his tenure and is becoming a stronger contributor. Maybe Dustin Wilson will get a grown up haircut and quit looking out of place in a suit and sounding like a reformed surfer/skater trying to report his events. Trager is a bit young, like Wilson. Hutson is strong but needs more help from her co-workers to carry the credibility of their newscasts. I realized newbies work cheap but I miss the maturity of true journalism. Too many kids.

Duff won't be missed. She was horrid.

Oh, they've hired some folks. They aren't quality people. GM is not from this market and doesn't understand it. Louisiana boy by way of South Carolina. GSM is originally from the Jonesboro market but came back to LR from Louisiana market. Wonder how that happened. She is way in over her head and under qualified. LSM is from this market but doesn't have a good reputation within the market. Many bridges burned by this one. Bailed off the KARK boat before they made her walk the plank. Came running to THV with promises to save the entire sales department. Yea, right. The only thing she saved was a continuous income. Mr. Caplan is the ultimate puppet master but can he pull the right strings? From the looks of people leaving and no one wanting to come on board, I give it six months before the gauntlet comes down.

Yep, they are really hurting at THV. The new News Director has his work cut out for him with a skeleton crew.. And the rest of the building is vacant. They have lost so many people surely the Corp. Robots are asking questions? When you have people leaving and some retiring early to get out.. You know they are wondering who is leading the troops. Certainly not the managers. Win for our station... Keep on letting good people leave and we will keep on hiring them. We already have hired away your sales people. Sad that your talent isn't wanted.

Running down the list here,
Ashley - check
Tom - check
Ed - check
Alyse - check
Mark - check
Liz - check
Craig - check
Dawn - check

Now, who in the above list is leaving?

I won't watch THV anymore because of the big black band they have at the bottom of the screen. That thing covers about 20% of your viewing. The person that thought that up needs to be fired.

In reference to the check list someone posted I think that the next to be asked to leave or will just leave are:

Alyse
Mark
Liz

Why would Alyse be leaving?

At 8:55 PM, September 16, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why do you think she should stay? She is not that well received on air. She thinks she deserves better and she will leave.

At 9:01 PM, September 16, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

8:55 you're obviously clueless and are just trying to get a conversation started. With what they're paying her I doubt she'll look elsewhere.

At 9:36 PM, September 16, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

There were high expectations here for Caplan when he arrived - he talked a good game but has been a failure. The product has gotten worse. You have a GM and a news director who have no clue about the state or its people. It really is a train wreck here. I remember when we once produced quality journalism but these days we're just filling time with irrelevant crap.

I agree. It is not needed and does obscure a lot. Should be fired and not allowed to draw unemployment.

9:36 you are dead on. This is Home? Hard to feel like home here when we can't keep people happy. Go back to Louisiana! All the new people they bring in are not from here either... Miss the day when we had a quality team. Should have given Nick the N. D. job when Raines left. Now he is across the street promoting news with all the secrets. We are all disposable...

Jessica was AWFUL!

At 4:16 AM, September 18, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'll take THV over the other news channels in LR! Mind you, Jessica Duff just had a baby and this new job will probably allow her more time to spend with her child. The only two people at THV who need to leave are Craig O'Neal and Meredith Mitchell, neither of which brings anything of worth to the station!

At 8:58 AM, September 18, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why can't they move the banner down to the bottom of the screen and make it a little thinner. A photog must have forgotten about it last week with a tight headshot of the Pine Bluff Mayor so the banner covered up half her face.

I like THV, hate the banner. It is so distracting I am starting to turn elsewhere.

At 2:04 AM, September 19, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I also agree that the banner needs to be removed. I hate that thing.

I have to laugh when I read this stuff about Alyse. People on here respond about and defend Alyse as a true journalist and celebrity because they are her friends or fans . The truth is most people outside the beauty pageant world could not tell you who Miss America was 2 years ago or the name of the first runner up to Miss America last Sunday night for that matter. Alyse was the first runner up. She lost, and outside Little Rock and the surrounding area nobody knows who she is. Sure she had her 15 minutes of fame on Letterman and Huckabee, because her ventriloquism was kitschy and clever, but a serious talent, no. She was a quick hire to replace the morning show talent who left to work for the competition. Management was shocked by Alysin's departure and traded on Alyse's recent popularity and the disappointment by viewers that the home town girl lost Miss America. Here are the real questions: has she done serious journalism , has grown as journalist, does she work hard to bring a quality product to THV, and did using her to replace Alysin accomplish what former management hoped it would accomplish.

I enjoy watching her. The morning team at 11 does a great job balancing fun and serious news.

lately their morning interviews have involved restaurant promotions (thv). One had a novel concept of combining beer and ice cream. How boring. This morning a different restaurant that had free queso somewhere. Is there no news?

At 9:03 PM, September 19, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

News? Are you kidding? Too hard to get out and find a story without the help of the old scanner. With hundreds of stories in LR area, these people are too lazy to get out and do some real work. TV is a vast wasteland and all out for the money. Go Sales!

Management wasn't shocked by Alyson's departure. Management reminded her often how replaceable she is and was. She called the bluff and seems to have worked out for her. Alyse is just as replaceable, but not because Alyson is better than her... it's because all talent can be replaced with a quick snap of the fingers. There's always a new face waiting in the wings.

At 8:31 AM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am a first timer on this blog and I have to say after reading about POOR,POOR Management and Talent! As a person who is not in news, sales or works at a television station...you are right they all can be replaced. But, you keep replacing them and bringing new people in and the viewers will go somewhere else to watch (maybe CNN/Weather Ch.) Because, regardless of what you think is journalism and worthy content people are going to watch who they trust! Regardless of what station they are on. Viewers don't trust new people, they don't believe them. So, as hard as it may seem to all you News Directors in this market, take this advice and keep your talent and pay them well to promote your brand! Or suffer the ratings and let them leave for other offers in and out of the market. Hire some no name out of town anchor and see what happens. I loved watching Robyn Richardson, B.J. Sams on the KTHV Morning Show and when she left.....ONLY BECAUSE I WAS FAMILIAR WITH ALYSON did I stay to see how she would work out, and I liked it. Now, I watch KATV because of Alyson and had never watched before or been exposed to their anchors. And although I love Tom Brannon, I can't stand to watch the dry humor they try to have. There is too much of a generation gap between Tom, Alyse and Ashley. So, remember even though this is a fairly large market. The truth is that people who grew up here will follow who they are used to seeing and trust. I know I am just one opinion, but I hope the right people see this or at least pass it along....JUST A THOUGHT?

I am sure most can see your point, but it sounds a bit naive to those of us in the business. You seem to like morning news, so we should all let you in on a little secret. Those anchors - especially those anchors - don't have much of anything to do with the content of what is being said. They come in right before the shows and it is already written for them. So the person you are really "trusting" is the producer who wrote it.

At 10:46 AM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah and that producer is likely a kid right out of college who they put on the morning show so she can "pay her dues". It's a revolving door position.

At 10:53 AM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

There is no more of an age gap between THV than KATV. Chris and Alyse are the same age, Ashley and Alyson are close in age (Alyson just looks looks old), and Melinda and Tom are the same age. I'm ok with both morning shows but think 4 is improving.

Below is a Letter to the Editor printed in this morning's Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Listen to your viewers!

"Wanted: Local newscast that is not stuck in “beg-a-thon” mode.

KTHV, Channel 11, seems to spend more time begging for diapers, school supplies, toys, etc., than reporting the news.

I think Dawn Scott’s A Place to Call Home is the only feature the station shows that is worthwhile. At least she is promoting adoption and not begging."

10:21am, I didn't know that about the news...Interesting? I would think that they would have some say in what they do? I guess not? Shame that something that important is being handled by a youngster...Still, shame on their boss for letting it happen and not doing anything about it. They should at least be taught how to write a good show?

At 5:14 PM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

4:47, it's not that they can't object to something if they feel strongly about it, certainly anyone can and it would at least be considered. But it's very unlikely that they ever would get in the building in time to read it all before they go on.

At 5:18 PM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Apparently those "kids" are writing good shows if people are watching them? I know KATV is a big offender with hiring kids as morning producers. Not sure about the other stations.

At 7:10 PM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lots of name calling, some of these "kids" are very professional. Maybe that's not the norm, but some are very dedicated to their job.

At 8:34 PM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

They are still kids mostly in their early to mid twenties. They may try to be professional, but that doesn't make them older and wiser.

At 8:41 PM, September 20, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Try to get an adult to work for that ridiculous money and schedule and you'll see really quick why they hire kids who don't know any better. They are still trying to show mommy and daddy what they spent that college money on.

At 12:22 PM, September 24, 2013, Anonymous Anonymous said...

1:32, I agree with what you said.

I could no longer watch THV's Morning show, so I switched to KATV's Morning Show. Tom, Alyse, & Ashley didn't seem to have chemistry like former THV morning anchors.

One drawback to KATV's Morning Show--Please tell Chris Kane to allow others to provide feedback on a topic every once and awhile.
