This from a tipster:KTAL News Director Andy Pontz was suddenly and mysteriously fired on
Wednesday (1/16/08). No replacement or interim has been named. The dept. will be headed up by the news managers until further notice.

That is a shame. he has brought KTAL to some level of respecability...something not easily said prior to his employment. Who does the thinking for the station?
KTAL should just ditch the news and put wheel at 6pm.

I've got to agree with the idea that KTAL should just throw in the towel.
Nextar will never spend the money to produce a viable news department, and I'm sure Wheel would make them a lot more money while costing a lot less.
Andrew is one of the best in the business and no one knows the market better. Maybe Nexstar is looking to cut costs by having one news director for KTAL and KTVE, since they're only 90 miles apart.
Andy Pontz is first class, and Scott thomas needs to start taking notes. I bet they hire some guy who has no newsroom experience to go with that crappy group of newsroom people running that crap product. Hey somebody tells Heidi shes fat, and Rick boones hair is paint-on stupid. THANKS, WE ALL KNOW
I think Heidi looks very nice. Seems like some bitter people on here who wish they were onair talent. We need more plus size women in television, so your wives and girlfriends will have someone to look up to.

Rick Boone's nose is Humpty Dance stuff. Put a saddle on that dude and ride that paint hair too town. "KTAL, WE ARE FAKE, BIG NOSED and ARE RAN BY PEOPLE WHO CANT WORK AT REAL NEWS PLACES."
That really stings, coming from someone who has such an obvious grasp of subject-verb agreement.

The news is not about looks!! It is being able to communicate a story to people. You can be a very good communicator without being a size 2. O and by the way the only men who look for size 2 women are men who have a size 2, lol, well you know, lol.
Why are you kids so hateful. Gwen Campbell was an excellent achor and not at all a size 2. If you want to watch someone you cant trust and looks like they should be walking the streets, there is this little website called the naked news watch that. You guys are about as shallow as a drainage ditch in arizona.
To all the folks who piss & whine about viewers being "shallow" by wanting to see more attractive people on TV than hefty sized folks: Grow the Hell Up!!
While physical size shouldn't matter...IT DOES...IT ALWAYS HAS..THIS IS A VISUAL MEDIUM BIZNESS....and audience research proves that people (yes even fatso viewers) prefer to see attractive folks on TV who are trim, in shape and take care of themselves.
Does your bodystyle affect your news credibility? No...but if you sit people in a room full of TV with various bodystyles delivering the same copy...guess which newscasters will rate more impressions...Yep..the better-looking, slimmer and less hefty ones. Sorry guys.. but that's just the way it is.
And as for Gwen Campbell being a good Anchor...she could read a prompter as well as anyone...but so what? Her cumes weren't the highest and when she did reporting...it was mostly boring...long and poorly focused educational stories that were more about sucking up to Ollie Tyler than they were about being concise, well-focused stories.... I swear...Gwen couldn't edit anything shorter than two minutes..if at that. If education reporting was such a high-demand franchise...how come KTBS has cut back on education stories...and the total running time at that?
You local hicks need to put down your twinkies and get out of your town once in awhile.... local news folks here in the ArkLaTex just plain suck... partly because management won't pay crap and their biggest worry is not having to deal with any changes too soon.

Well it's no secret that Queen "O" has had a lifelong stuggle with the weight as it's been a considerable selling point on her show every other year it seems.
She's made a mint on losing weight...gaining weight...running marathons...fitness training...cookbooks...weightloss programs... and no matter how she looks...she is golden to many women viewers. But lettme ax the last anonymous poster: If Oprah's so hot...how come we don't see any mo' big mamma's like her doing as well in TeeVee Land? Could be the "O" is an anomaly?
Sorry..but folks like to look at attractive folks with decent symmetry...it's the same in nature as it is in civilization. Anthropological studies bear this out...SO EVERYBODY...QUITCHYERBITCHIN'... most folks prefer looking at purty people...don't mean that fat, intelligent folks aren't credible journalists...it's just the way it is...and will continue to be.
So get over it!
