Hog Fan on KATV's Interrupting Hog/Tide Game for Severe Weather

This from a tipster: "KATV just prove at 12:25ish today (Saturday) why they are number 1 in weather. They cut-in during the hog game for a tornado warning, I don't have problem with that, but no audio and they stay with the cut-in for about a minute. They just prove to hog fans across the state how much they do suck in one afternoon."

Everyone cuts in during a tornado warning. That doesn't make them number one in weather. That's a no brainer!

I also saw the cut-in. Although, it was regretable that the sound did not work, give em credit for at least trying.

When it comes to tornado warnings you could be saving lives; it would be nice to hear what the wx man is saying.

I'm so glad none of you ever make mistakes and that everything you do is perfect. Glitches happen, people. Every station suffers from them and per Murphy's Law, they always seem to happen at the worst possible time.

It's so nice to know that people's priorities are in order. Warn people about tornadoes due to Hurricane Rita orrr...forget that and just stay with a football game that, oh yeah, we're LOSING because we SUCK this year. Obviously, the tragedies from Katrina and Rita haven't taught many of you anything.

EAS--Not a TV employee, but someone with common sense. Sheesh.

One would think that this board would have some somewhat enlightented viewpoints and rants. Instead, i'm treated to Stanley Knox-fanboy type comments that look out of place outside of junior high. And not this post but many others. BTW, i've never been an employee of KATV or any other TV station.

ps. i'd actually hate to debate a serious issue with you--it'll make the USC whipping of Arkansas look merciful.

I'll echo the sentiments above and raise them one -- aren't PROFESSIONALS supposed to be reading this blog? 'cause, with all the "x anchor is a hot babe", "your station sucks" talk and the like, you'd think teenagers were posting here instead.

If these are the people who are either a) watching us or b) working for us, then this biz is screwed.

And - for the record - I don't work in any of the stations in AR either.

It's kinda funny that some people are mad at KATV for cutting in during the game. I missed the original cutin, then frantically channel-surfed for more than 30 minutes trying to find out what was going on, since I had family in the area, and not a single station ever updated the warnings, even though there were 4 or 5 counties under various tornado warnings during that time. I guess SEARK isn't as important to them as if someone spotted a dustdevil near Conway.

The cut-in was more entertaining than the game!

The only time KATV cares about anybody outside the Little Rock are is during sweeps. I think if you claim to do Arkansas news, you ought to get out of central arkansas. And I am too dissappointed that KATV nor any of the other LR stations did not more coverage of the remnants of Rita hitting the state. Just because everyone else doesn't cover South Arkansas is not an excuse.

KATV has always had high viewership in SEARK (save for the most extreme sections) dating to the pre-cable, pre-dish era. While the dishes have put all the local LR stations on equal footing here, its always been KATV that (for better or worse) been the station of record for Little Rock news in this area.

KATV is even carried by Cox Cable in Greenville, MS of all places.

Thanks to KATV for their weather updates. With or without sound, I'd rather be a live viewer than a DEAD HOG! You'll have more appreciation after you've lived through a tornado!
