May Numbers Flawed

Arkansas Business.com reports Nielson is apologizing for flawed sweeps numbers for May 2012.  The article says the ratings company got less diaries returned than it had hoped.  I guess the thing in the article that surprised me is  how little the sample is.  The article says they base their numbers on less than a thousand diaries.  To me this seems like a flawed systems with too little of a sampling!

I work at 4 but and I'd love to blame the numbers but Nielsen did not say the numbers are flawed...just that they received ten percent less diaries than they hoped to get. Nielsen sends these kinds of emails out routinely to talk about their goals. The blogmaster is only posting this because he's a known 11 apologist.

You can't blame the blogger. AB used the word flawed in their headline. I will say it was strange that Nielsen didn't use that word but whatever. No surprise though...AB is trash.

That's not going to mean anything for KTHV. If the sampling size is/was off by 10%, then just add 10% to your ratings and also bump KARK, FOX16 and the Ranch up 10% too, guess what, you still had a crappy book. However, your biggest problem is your lack of promotion.

@11:48...no one really believes you work at 4. They don't subscribe to the ratings, so they wouldn't have received info from them about the ratings. Truth is you work at 7 and are probably one of their over-zealous teenaged morning show producers that gets your panties in a wad about everything. No one is fooled.

Hey 8:53. Any idiot can get the ratings in Arkansas Business. I work at 4 and have seen every book for years. You are probably a THVer who still swears that your station is relevant. Go use the ratings to dry your tears you pathetic reject.

Your defensive reply gives you away! Barry and Alison, get back to work!

Nielsen has always been a flawed system, unfortunately we continue to use them.

At 9:58 AM, July 04, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Now it all makes sense. 8:53 & 9:38 is the same loser THV morning person who always posts here. Why else would you pick a fight with morning show people at another station? I DO work at 7 but not in the mornings. Your posts are as pathetic as your ratings THV.

At 10:07 AM, July 04, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

9:58 you are totally wrong. I posted the 9:39 comment. I am not with THV, and I am not in Little Rock.

At 10:08 AM, July 04, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This thread has been hijacked by idiots all around. I will say though that as someone who works at THV maby of us are disgusted by the immature posts made on this blog by a VERY few members of our morning team. Cut it out guys. You make us all look petty. I wish I could sign my name but the people posting can probably guess who this is.

At 10:20 AM, July 04, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

10:08 yes I know who you are. You're the fat, old, cow who is KILLING our station. If we had half the promotion you did we would be dominating.

Save it 10:07. You're not fooling anyone.

I posted the comments and most definitely don't work at THV. wish I did though. ASHLEY BLACKSTONE IS A FINE PIECE OF ASS. But apparently my comments hit close to home. Channel 7 producers got their panties in a wad! Grow up. We know you are the ones posting here

At 10:30 AM, July 04, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wrong again 10:22. 10:07 was posted from Shreveport, not Little Rock.

Hahaha at 10:25. I'm sure they are JUST A VIEWER! Lol... This site is a steaming pile...

As a KATVer I'm not sure what the obsession with Channel 7 is. There appears to be a lot of sniping between Ch. 11 people on here but whenever anything negative is said. The same few people are on here yelling. "Shutup Channel 7!!!!!" We are less paranoid then you guys because we are dominating. On second thought I DO get the obsession...

Folks tune into 7 for their reputation not the quality of their product. I speak to folks, regular viewers and they say they just automatically tune to 7 because "we've watched them for years." Look at the quality though. Even though they might have solid anchors their reporters are very weak. All of the Little Rock reporters are weak. 7 does have the best anchors but a very weak product. 11 has the best news product followed by 7 then 4. As for weather, folks love ned sperme..then 11 then 4. As for sports channel 7 wins hands down. morning shows...well depends on what you want in a morning show..4 offers more news in the morning..then for the fluffy shows it's 11 and 7. I am just a regular viewer.

7 cemented their audience with Ned Perme, Paul Eells, and Wheel of Fortune. Sully has done a great job after Paul's unexpected passing. Bottom line, it is not always about news anchors and reporters.
With that said, 1,000 households times 3 sweeps periods a year equals 3,000 households. 42 years of living in the market and never selected to be a Nielsen household. 3,000 households per year times 42 years is 126,000 chances to be selected. Do they survey the same people every time?

I'm sorry but if you think 11 has the best news product you are crazy. I used to enjoy 11 but their green reporters drove me away. 4 and 7 have much better reporters in my view. I still like 11 in the morning though.

There is a more modern way from Nielsen to get the ratings and it would probably revolutionize the ratings in the this market. It's a box that Nielson puts on a sample of TV's. There's a much better sample because people are paid and they don't have to write anything in a book like 1955.
So why don't we use it? Channel 7 blocks it every time. The reason? They likely would suffer tremendously.
So, while they crow about how dominant they are, remember they have a vested interest in preventing a modern and accurate sample.

You're an idiot, do a little research before you start spouting off about things you obviously know nothing about. 7 isn't the only reason we're not a metered market. And by the way, the numbers aren't flawed. Nielsen got back less returns than expected, that's all. That's just how Arkansas Business and this pathetic blog are trying to spin it. It's happened before, it'll happen again. There's been books with less returns than this in the past and no one ever heard you bitching until you got absolutely destroyed in the ratings.

At 8:24 AM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If the other stations make enough noise, LR will be metered soon. Diaries are a thing of the past.

At 8:32 AM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If you are an advertiser, wouldn't you want a more scientific survey? What if 7 wasn't so dominant? What if 16 was in second place? What if Suares was kicking ALLYSON! and Alyse?
This is not about loyalty, this is about accuracy.

At 10:04 AM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

For a market to be metered, all of the stations have to agree and divide the cost. One station can not block the decision. Let's pray you are not a reporter/producer that is trying to inform the public.

At 4:59 PM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

My favorite morning show girls are Wendy and Alyse. Morning weather goes to Melinda. Sports is 7 by a landslide. Evening anchors are Beth and Scott. Best evening weather is Ed. Best personalities are at 11. Best reporters are at 4.

The above comments are sad. Truth is, several of the 11 (my station) and 7 morning team members are friends. These comments dont reflect that and make me believe these comments arent from the morning people OR are just from a few bad apples.

At 5:29 PM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

5:15 has a good point. I also know that most of them are friends. A few bad apples is a good way to put it.........

At 5:49 PM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What are you talking about? Everyone know KTHV producers can't have friends at other stations. Did you not hear what happened to their old EP? Just ask Tom, Ashley, and Alyse. They made sure of that.

At 6:10 PM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So how has that worked for them?

At 10:40 PM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lets see 10:04... all stations have to agree and divide the cost. So if Seven says no thanks-they're not blocking. Well that makes perfect sense! How foolish of me! And 8:06 since you're the expert, give the scoop. Otherwise go back to your twinkies, coke and cigarettes and stuff that pie hole.

At 10:59 PM, July 05, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow, you really are an idiot. A very insecure one at that. Do your own research and find out why we're not metered.

At 8:00 AM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Trust me when I tell you that Channel 7 is not the only station that doesn't want to pay to become a metered market. It is VERY expensive and newsroom budgets are shrinking. Theere are much bigger markets than Little Rock that wren't metered. I was not one of the posters so save your rath

At 8:22 AM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

7 doesn't have the money because they have to spend it buying viewers giving away cash.

At 8:30 AM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Rentrak is the answer. While not truly overnight ratings they do measure every day and pull from thousands of set top boxes in the market.

At 9:07 AM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Did 7 give stuff away in every show? I know they did in the morning but everybody did. I'm not being sarcastic, I don't watch 7 at night.

At 9:29 AM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No, it's just the losers way of trying to justify to themselves that that's the reason they lost and not because they suck.

At 11:21 AM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I saw them again today giving away gas cards and resort tickets. Those cheaters. I wish they would just stop trying to get viewers.

At 12:08 PM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dude, get over it. Everybody does it. It would be unwise in this day and age not to.

At 12:09 PM, July 06, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Stop trying to get viewers? That's gotta be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

July sweeps? The same as always... no one cares.

Same as always.
Mammaw watches Ned. Fills out her survey for KATV while taking a dump.
Then she watches Pat and Vanna.

Doesn't matter where she fills it out from. She's watching Ned, not Ed.

It does matter where she fills it out. It keeps her regular and KATV on top.

She could combine the Nielsen ratings survey with a KATV colon cancer screening sample!

If I were an advertiser, I would be appalled to know I was paying for spots with this kind of research. Meter the freakin' market.

At 8:49 AM, July 14, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Go ahead, be appalled. We're not metered and probably nver will be. This is he system in place and has been forever. Deal with it or STFU!0

Tell that to your advertisers that sign your fuc&ing paycheck...

At 4:43 PM, July 14, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well there is nothing the advertisers can do to change it and there are much bigger markets than Little Rock that are not metered yet. It's expensive.

At 5:11 PM, July 14, 2012, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Advertisers don't sign my paycheck, and they really don't care how the numbers are calculated. The only people who do are the ones getting their asses kicked. Btw, I really don't think it would change as much as you hope it would if we were metered and we're not going to be anytime soon so get over it.

Hey 5:11 - You are correct - advertisers don't "actually" sign your paycheck - but if you didn't have any - do you think you would have a job?

Yes I would. You know what happens when you assume right?
