New Weather Guy Quitting KATV?
A message from today's BullWhiz e-letter suggests new weekend meteorologist Todd Yakoubian is leaving. Here's what the tidbit says: "Things must be going great at Ch. 7. The new weekend weather guy decides to leave after only 1 month; their great morning experiment is deemed a failure after only 6 months, but don't worry; Steve Sullivan thinks everything is great."
Anyone have the details?
UPDATE: An e-mailer suggests that whoever sent the message to BullWhiz meant the new reporter...Leland Vittert NOT the new weekend met. Now that would make sense to me.

Funny, Leland's bio is still on KATV's site but theweatehr guy is not.
And didn't they fire the daybreak crew? They're still on the site as well.
Vittert was an INTERN at KNWA--that's why he wasn't there long--he went back to college!
The weather guy isn't leaving.
Good now he can go someware and make some real money and earn a good living and KATV is paying nothing but flunky pay!
Name a TV station in this STATE that DOESN'T pay "flunky" pay . . . .
TV salaries/pay for anyone other than on-air talent in the entire state of Arkansas is a joke - what rock have you been living under? Why do you think so many of us are not in the business anymore? You think we can make a house payment, car payment, and raise children on a measely $8/hour?

Reporters don't need big money... only enough cash for a gym membership and cigarettes.
I find it hard to believe they only make $16,640/yr... I've had friends tell me it's the publicity and not the $$ that keeps them in the game.
What reporter in Little Rock makes $16k a year? That's just stupid.
What do they make? Around $20K? You need at least $25K in this city to afford rent, etc.
What do producers make?
Glad to hear people want to be famous. Let me know when prestige is able to do things like pay bills, put food on the table, and raise infant children. Some of us can't afford a gym membership and would rather not smoke ourselves to death.
I was making chump change covering stupid house fires, car wrecks, and meth busts while weathermen get 40k-60k/year to copy weather maps off of the Weather Channel and National Weather Service websites and pass them off as their own. Anchors would roll in about 2:30, shoot a couple of promos/topicals for the day's newscast, type up a couple of readers, and get paid even more than the weather folks to sit behind a desk and read a teleprompter 3 times a day, 5 days a week. Did I mention the free wardrobes/clothing allowances? Must be nice. Just a little unsettling to know that's going on while the rest of us who do the bulk of the work at a station are living paycheck to paycheck . . . . .

The weathermen and anchors all started at the same place you are. Isn't that the ultimate goal of any industry, to move up the ladder until you get paid more and don't have to do as much. sounds like a little jealousy here.

That's why they call it "PAYING YOUR DUES" If you're good enough, you'll climb the ladder into Anchor Stardom! If not, it's your clue to GET OUT and do something else.

Starting pay for a reporter in NWA is *WAY LESS* than $28k/year. As for FUBAR being a Navy SEAL term - get a clue, dude. It's a freakin' movie line from "Saving Private Ryan"
There's a difference between paying your dues and putting food on your table. All I'm saying is that the pay in NWA is a joke (for reporters AND photogs), which is why I got out. I have no idea about central Arkansas. If it's $28k/year, then that's more like it . . . .

Anchors in this market are paid anywhere between 45K-70K, depending on experience. That still isn't much $. AT ALL. Wanna make money in TV? Get out of the newsroom, you idiots.

Don't worry, I did. I think it's hilarious to come on here a read about losers like yourself who enjoy living below the poverty level and have no life outside of your job because you've got a newsroom pager strapped to your belt 24/7. Speaking of jackasses, you probably don't sleep overnight because you're listening to your police scanner waiting to see if you can be the first one on the scene at a meaningless car wreck or house fire.
I enjoyed my brief stint in the business, and don't regret for a second that I got out.
I'd rather be a jackass than a loser who spends their career kissing the ass of the news director or becoming an alcoholic smoker with the assignment editor every night at the local watering hole in order to get ahead in the business.
The McVeigh execution was a cool roadtrip unfortunately, times like that in the business are few and far between unless you work at one of the networks, and life's too short to spend 20 years of my life trying to get there.

I just graduated from college and KATV start their Production Assistants ( Which is the job they start grads with) at $8.00 per hour
part-time working 3AM to 12PM. Who can live on that kind of money?

Leland's coverage looked like every story that has ever run about a reporter going up with the Thunderbirds. I really got a kick out of it when coming out of the story Pam Smith said "only Leland.." Please, that story is done by a reporter every year and quite frankly.. it's getting old.
Here, I do not actually consider it is likely to have effect.
In my opinion everybody should browse on this.
